I'm skeptical of the one bolt per second thing.  The slow thing about crossbows were not the reloading of the bolts themselves, it was the cocking mechanism.  The reason a crossbow was such a powerful weapon was because of the force behind the bolt, which in turn has to have a lot of force to cock it.  In Medieval times they had to use cranks to cock their crossbows because they weren't strong enough to do it themselves.

Hard to say. It's ether the normal sword (not Martin the Warrior, ever though it's awesome)  or double sided battle ax.

My favorite weapon is the sling. Can own some unsuspecting sea vermin. I also like the Bow and Arrows man. That is the best because it hits so far away.

Those have a slight drawback (no pun intended) they are powerful and accurate... But they are INCREDIBLY slow!
