"No Quarter" means showing no mercy or leniency, especially to opponents in battle. It implies a refusal to take prisoners and a commitment to fighting until the end, with no intention of sparing the lives of those who surrender or are defeated. No quarter is essentially a declaration of "take no prisoners".

Chapter 29: Redwall Forever: Zugzwang

Zugzwang (German meaning "compulsion to move") refers to a situation in chess in which a player is placed at a disadvantage and forced to make a move, even though any legal move will worsen their position. As passing is not allowed in chess, the player must move, and each move will continually make their position more inescapable: a loss of material, a setup for a checkmate, or a weaker endgame stance. This most often occurs in endgames, where fewer pieces limit a player's options. A zugzwang differs from a stalemate in that in the latter case, a player has no legal moves but they are not in check, resulting in a draw; and in the former, the player must move, but all moves will make things worse. Zugzwang is often seen in puzzles or master-level play, especially in endgames, where precise timing and tempo are required. In some rare cases, a zugzwang can even be engineered intentionally to win or force a draw.

Emilio Guanadiol and Andrés Ficoboain are based on real-world individuals Emilio Aguinaldo and Andrés Bonifacio, both central figures and leaders in the Philippine Revolution

Giodorr Adzi de Eolin is based on the Castilian knight Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, also known as "El Cid" Giodorr's two in-universe exiles are based on the real-world exiles of his namesake.

Zackary Reones Bayot is based on Chinese martial artist, physician, and folk hero Wong Fei-hung. Fei-hung did indeed have three wives and six children, and his fourth wife was his mistress in name.

Malik Alcázar takes after Bruce Lee; while Loren Belfast was an invention of my friend from Redwall's Legacy, and whom is responsible for creating the Eastern Islands' national neighbor country, Senshan.

In a Modern AU, the world's nations host a martial arts tournament in the Eastern Islands. An event broadcasted across the globe, beasts of all stripes will flock from every corner to compete. This tournament will determine who is the true master of martial arts known as Wungkan! "Pumuska" is a Filipino word meaning "combat". Please read "Their True Names" for an introduction to Wungkan!

Pumuska is an amalgamation of real cities in the Philippines, specifically Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, and the capital city of Manila in Luzon. The Pumuska Public Plaza, for example, is a direct imitation of the Bacolod Public Plaza. In addition, the places that Madeline mentions in the art in the hotel's elevator are real locations:

"Torub Beach" - Burot Beach, located in the Municipality of Calatagan in the province of Batangas, about 130 kilometers from Manila.
"Lakubmam Resort" - Mambukal Mountain Resort, a resort township located with the boundaries of the municipality of Murcia, Negros Occidental.
"Pumuska Sports Stadium" - Philippines Sports Stadium, found in Bocaue, Bulacan, the largest of its kind in the country with a seating of 25,000. It is a football and track stadium and is part of the larger Ciudad de Victoria complex, which also contains the Philippine Arena, the world's largest indoor arena.

The radio station 36.9 KRWD Hard Stone Pumuska is a reference to the real-life station 96.3 DWRK Easy Rock Manila in the Philippines.

The Pumuska Baywalk Recreational Park is based on the baywalk of the same name in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Western Visayas, Philippines.

The song sung by the choir is titled "Lupang Hinirang" ("Beloved Country"), and is the standardized national anthem of the Philippines. The translation of the Tagalog lyrics is as follows:

The tinikling dance is a Philippine folk dance that originated prior to Spanish colonialism. It involves at least two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination, with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. It is traditionally danced to rondalla music, or a serenade played by an ensemble of stringed instruments which originated in Spain during the Middle Ages. Locomotor movements used in this dance are hopping, jumping, and turning.
