In Araltum's case, yes he was a coward, but he doesn't have to be brave.
First, when I say I don't like a character, it means I don't like their attitude.
As characters, it is good that they have different personalities, otherwise the books will all be the same. And that would be boring.
Okay, fine; as a character, what do you think of him?
For Altarum, not really, he hardly adds to the plot, however he is the reason Tam was sent in the first place, for that I am thankful.
Bigbones, is a good character though.

I must heartily disagree here. Araltum was a vain and spoiled brat, whereas Tam was an noble warrior, and Doogy was simply hilarious. Sure, I'm down for not so goody-goody woodlanders, but I'd take the insufferable Yoofus Lightpaw over the pompous and cruel squirrelking.
Of course, even then we have the people who cry "Double standard!" regarding the treatment of Yoofus versus the treatment of vermin, but I won't get into that now.
I remember Yoofus' name but not who he was...

But I still disagree, I felt like Tam and Doogy were typical without much to 'em besides, 'course, an accent. Doogy never made me laugh, Araltum's antics did.

As brief as those squirrels actually appeared, I did find them quite interesting. Partly because there aren't many kings and queens in Redwall, and they were so pompous and ridiculous. They were brief, but they did have some personality about them.

I hated Araltum. He was a fat, spoiled, uncaring, horrible and evil jerk who deserved to have his head carved into a jack-o-lanturn. I wanted him to be killed like Wullow.
He has joined the ranks of characters I want to die painfully along with Fenn Bluepaw, Benjo Tips, Trisscar Swordmaid and his wife Idga Drayqueen.
