Title: Your Redwall Collection
Post by: DanielofRedwall on December 28, 2011, 07:08:22 AM
Well, what's your "Redwall" collection like? Which books do you own? Do you have any other accessories that are "Redwall" related? Do you own any other books by Brian Jacques?

I own quite a bit:
REDWALL BOOKS
 books
The Rogue Crew (Philomel US hardback), signed copy of The Sable Quean (Philomel US hardback), signed copy of Doomwyte (Philomel US hardback), Eulalia! (Penguin UK large paperback), High Rhulain (Penguin UK large paperback), Rakkety Tam (Penguin UK large paperback), Loamhedge (Penguin UK paperback), Triss (Ace Fantasy US paperback), The Taggerung (Red Fox UK paperback), Marlfox (Red Fox UK paperback), The Long Patrol (Red Fox UK paperback), The Pearls of Lutra (Red Fox UK paperback), Mattimeo (Ace Fantasy US paperback), Redwall (Red Fox UK paperback), Salamandastron (Red Fox UK paperback), The Bellmaker (Red Fox UK paperback), Mariel of Redwall (Red Fox UK Paperback), Outcast of Redwall (Red Fox UK paperback reissued 2007), The Legend of Luke (Red Fox UK paperback), Mossflower (Red Fox UK paperback), Martin the Warrior (Firebird Fantasy US paperback), Lord Brocktree (Red Fox UK paperback).

Note: I took down the photos because instead of making it easier as I thought it would it made it harder to see the books clearly and was a general nuisance for me.

Nice! I will take a photo of my Redwall books later. I can't really do it right now. :(

Nice!
Rather than taking pictures, I'm just going to name them all.

I own Martin the Warrior (which I'll need to replace soon...it's "well loved"), Mossflower, Legend of Luke, Mariel of Redwall, Bellmaker, Salamandastron, 2 copies of Mattimeo (as one needed replacing, but hasn't quite died yet), Long Patrol, Marlfox, Taggerung, and Triss. I also own Castaways of the Flying Dutchman and Angel's Call.....at least, I think that's the title. My mind's blanking right now.

My family owns Lord Brocktree, Outcast of Redwall, and Pearls of Lutra. One brother owns Loamhedge and the other owns Eulalia.

We also have the first Urso Brunov book, but I kind of don't want to count it. :P

OH! And we have the Redwall Cookbook.

I think that's it...

I have all the main books, the Castaways books, and all the posters except for Otters. I also have every episode of the TV show recorded on VHS.

My books are a lot less varied than yours, Daniel.
My books are from Redwall to The Sable Quean, all either U.S. Firebird or U.S. Ace editions. Most of the later ones are the Ace editions.
And my copies of Doomwyte and The Sable Quean are the newer repackaged Firebird editons of the Redwall series. I preferred the old, to be honest.
I have no other Redwall-related works. I hope to change that soon.
Especially read the Castaway books, though that's more a Jacques collection than a Redwall one.

Books:
Redwall x2 - The UK paperback and 10th anniversary edition, Mossflower x3 - One copy is in two halves so I had to buy a replacement and I have another version in Japanese, Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall, Salamandastron, Martin the Warrior, The Bellmaker, Outcast of Redwall, Pearls of Lutra, The Long Patrol, Marlfox, The Legend of Luke, Lord Brocktree, Taggerung, Triss, Loamhedge, Rakkety Tam, High Rhulain, Eulalia!, Doomwyte, The Sable Quean, The Rogue Crew (kindle edition only)

All of my copies are some version of the UK paperback up until Outcast, then they're all the UK hardback versions or whatever came out first!

Picture books:
The Great Redwall Feast, A Redwall Winter's Tale

Audiobooks:
Redwall (UK abridged version)
Rakkety Tam (iTunes version)

DVDs:
That movie version they made out of the first cartoon... I found it in a bargain store in New Zealand!

Misc:

A set of collector cards from years ago...
Redwall diary from... 1996, I think?
Tribes of Redwall: Badgers
Tribes of Redwall: Mice
Tribes of Redwall: Otters
Redwall Map and Riddler
Build-your-own Redwall Abbey
Friend and Foe
Redwall Graphic Novel

I also have all the Castaways books, Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales and The Ribbajack. Most of this stuff is back in Australia so I can't tell you exactly what I have, but this is the gist of it I think.

I also own the Redwall Cookbook and "Bitwa o Redwall" (which is the Polish translation of the first book.)

I looooove the Ace paperbacks.  For me, it doesn't feel like a redwall book if it's the hardback copies.  My first set, which was Redwall, Mossflower, and Mattimeo, was the paperbacks and its what most of my other books are.  I own all the books except Rogue Crew, all three Tribes sets, the Cookbook, the two picture books, the map and riddler, friend or foe, and the whole season of Redwall based on the first book.  Id love Martin the Warrior and Mattimeo on DVD but I don't have two hundred bucks lying around :)

Same here. I only have three hardcover copies, which are Taggerung, Loamhedge, and Rakkety Tam, but that's just because I couldn't find the paperbacks anywhere.

I've just ordered "Triss" from the La Dita bookshop to end my collection of Redwall books. It's been a long time coming, but it has finally finished! Before that, I managed to get Long Patrol, Marlfox, Mariel of Redwall and The Legend of Luke from a second hand bookshop. I still have a few books to finish my Brian Jacques collection. There's a Ribbajack copy nearby which I'm going to buy. I also have to buy the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman trilogy and also the Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales book.

I want the Tiria Wildlough bookmark! Still, the picture would probably either be her like she is on the UK copy of High Rhulain, or the US one. Nothing interesting.

Wow, you're lucky. The copy of Redwall that I own has Brian Jacques' signature in it, but it's printed, not written.
And Bragoon, now I'm not so sure about the bookmark, because, on the US cover, she looks like a sea otter. She's a river otter, not a sea otter, am I right?
Title: Re: Your Redwall Collection
Post by: DanielofRedwall on February 10, 2012, 09:08:03 AM
I have "The Sable Quean" and "Doomwyte" signed as I got them from the La Dita Bookshop when they were still doing the "all books signed by Brian Jacques" thing. Are they still doing that? I doubt it.
Title: Re: Your Redwall Collection
Post by: Bragoon on February 10, 2012, 05:49:54 PM
I would guess she's a sea otter though, since the original High Rhulain came from Green Isle, where sea otters lived, and she's a descendant of the High Rhulain's brother.  I don't know for sure though, since I don't own a copy of High Rhulain.

I went to a new used bookstore in town today, and I found the collector's edition of Mossflower.  Love it.  =D

Ungatt (and any other lookers drooling over the fact I own the third season on DVD) I'm not selling it.  I know a lot of you would love to have it, but, well so would I.

Do what I did--keep your eyes peeled for a copy.  I got my copy off of ebay...don't remember what I paid for it (but it wasn't as high as I see copies going for now--I never would have bought it for that price).  Sometimes a copy will come available for a lower price because the seller wants to sell the item badly....just got to be patient as I was.

What also could happen is a new distributor gets rights for the season and re-releases it.  This happened with the first season which can still be purchased for $20.  This may or may not happen for Season 2 or 3, but usually this always happens after you spend an arm and a leg for OOP stuff.  :P ::)

I keep looking for them at antique stores, but I don't see them. Does Amazon have them?
Title: Re: Your Redwall Collection
Post by: Lutra on July 30, 2012, 11:57:29 AM
Antique stores likely won't have them because well, its just not that old.  Amazon does have dvds.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_5?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=redwall+dvd&sprefix=redwa%2Caps%2C224

The only thing you are not spending a lot of money for is Season 1 (Redwall the Adventure Begins & Redwall the Next Adventure from 2010 and 2011).  Both of those together is the entire first season.

Season 2 - $97
Season 3 - $97

:o  :o  They can ask for that, but I doubt they'll sell them for that price.  Oddly enough, the first complete season when it was originally released six years ago is still up there and going for $80.  I feel sorry for the fool that doesn't realize its been re-released, only its not super-obvious that it has been.  ::)

I have Redwall, Mossflower, Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall, and Salamandastron all in paperback. I want to own them all, and I would like to have some hardcover copies at some point. I read them in hardcover as a kid, so it seems fitting that I should have some hardcovers as an adult. I don't earn much more than minimum wage, though, so for now it's paperback.

Ive got all the books from Lord Brocktree to The Taggerung in Red Fox Paperback, all the following books from Triss to Doomwyte in Puffin Paperback, and The Sable Quean and The Rogue Crew in Ace Paperback. Also have Tribes Of Redwall: Badgers.

I've also got first edition hardbacks of Triss, Loamhedge, Rakkety Tam and High Rhulain  ;D

Asides from those, I've got Castaways Of The Flying Dutchman, The Angel's Command and Voyage Of Slaves in Puffin Paperback. Castaways Of The Flying Dutchman and The Angel's Command are both signed just inside the cover by Brian himself, though I picked them up afterwards and wasn't fortunate enough to meet him  :(

I just got Legend of Luke for $2, looks brand new. :D  'Course, between that and the newest Warriors book, I'm totally out of room on my shelf.  I mean, I was out of room for ages, and ended up getting a little 2-shelves-tall shelf from the basement and stuck that in my closet.  Now both shelves on there are full, plus I've got all my Redwall audiobooks on top, and then my main big bookshelf is full as well.  So I have absolutely no room at all with those two additions.  I can't wait till I get my own place someday and will have enough room for a second full shelf.  xD
(On the bright side, at least, I didn't buy any of those books full price except the Warriors series and one manga the inter-library system didn't have - everything else was either on sale by a significant chunk (i.e. Harry Potter and The Hunger Games), or only 50 cents/$1 (from secondhand stores or the library booksale).

Look what happened to my Martin the Warrior tape today.

It was sounding a little fuzzy, so I tried what they call "percussive maintenance" on TV Tropes: giving it a good whack, because that usually fixes the fuzziness on my ancient tape player.  It didn't fix it, so I rewound it a little bit and tried again because that works often too.  Finally it just stopped making any noise, and so I took it out... that was a mess, all tangled up, and the tape is all crimped.

I have at this point, however, untangled it and rolled it back up, and it actually sounds okay (I'd been afraid it would be permanently damaged; like I said, it's pretty badly crimped).  Still gets slightly fuzzy at the same point but not to the degree it had been.  I have to say, Celandine's stage-scream when it first started happening sounded hilarious - instead of sounding like a scream, it was all wavery and sounded like a horse whinnying.  xD

I have all the novels in the series, except for The Rogue Crew which I'll get when the UK paperback version is released later this year (I actually already have it in hardback, but prefer the paperbacks, although annoyingly over the years they've kept changing size and style). I've also got two copies of Triss - on proper paperback and one pre-release proof paperback (thanks to knowing someone who worked at the New Zealand distributor).  :)

In addition, I have The Great Redwall Feast and the Redwall Map (with The Redwall Riddler). I think I've also got one of the tribe booklets, but can't find it at the moment. There's also a freeware Redwall game I downloaded a few years ago, but it's for Windows and I'm using a Mac, so can't play it.

I also have the books in the Welkin Weasel, Duncton, and Watership Down series ... and a few more I can't remember at the moment.

Quote from: RomscaI haven't heard of Duncton. What's that about?

The Duncton Chronicles series by William Horwood (InternetBookList.com link (http://www.iblist.com/search/search.php?item=duncton&submit=Search)) is sort-of like a mole version of Watership Down, although there's no humans involved, and sometimes called "Lord of the Rings with moles". There's six very thick books in the series: I liked reading them, but they can be heavy-going in places and quite mumbo-jumbo with the religious "worshiping The Stone" stuff, and there's some violence and fighting ... so aimed at an older age group than the Redwall books.

I also forgot that I had Brian Jacques' first Castaways of the Flying Dutchman book too.

Quote from: rachel25I own all the book apart from DoomwyteI have read it and  The Rouge Crew

The Rouge Crew ... that's the one about the Redwall make-up team creating blushers and lipsticks from various berries.  ;)

I always mis-spell it that way too and have to correct it.  :)

I forgot that I also have some Redwall animated DVDs. There's a set of eight volumes and then another DVD, but I'm not sure what they are because I haven't gotten around to watching them.

On a side note, here in New Zealand the Maori TV channel does play the animated Redwall series from time to time, but dubbed into the Maori language ... that's a very weird experience.  :)

Does it just have Redwall, Martin the Warrior, and Mattimeo, or is there a new season which is only available in New Zealand?
Title: Re: Your Redwall Collection
Post by: Buzz_Bumble on April 08, 2013, 05:18:01 AM
I'm not sure what it is. I haven't watched my English DVDs and I haven't seen a whole episode of the Maori-dubbed ones (just bits and pieces when flicking channels - I don't speak or read Maori language, so don't watch the channel). It's hugely unlikely it's anything new - it's a cheapo channel playing mostly a load of rubbish in Maori (they also play Mr Ed dubbed into Maori, which is weird too) and strange movies.

It is played in an after-school or weekend timeslot. It isn't on at the moment (there's something called Cyberchase being), but was a few weeks ago and will probably be back again at some stage - it's been on about five or six times over the last few years.

Library booksale has come around once again.  Unfortunately it appears that I have missed the High Rhulain audiobook, as it is no longer in the catalog, but I didn't see it there.  I'm a bit disappointed because that's my favorite audiobook.  Ah well.  I did get the Mattimeo and Rakkey Tam audiobooks, so now I have the library's entire old collection except "Redwall" and "The Long Patrol", as well as the actual books of Loamhedge and Eulalia.

My collection as it stands now:

Redwall - paperback and 20th anniversary box-thing
Mossflower - audiobook and paperback
Mattimeo - audiobook and paperback
Mariel of Redwall - audiobook and paperback
Salamandastron - audiobook and paperback
Martin the Warrior - audiobook
The Bellmaker - audiobook
Outcast of Redwall - audiobook and paperback
Pearls of Lutra - paperback
The Long Patrol - paperback
Marlfox - paperback
The Legend of Luke - paperback
Lord Brocktree - paperback
Taggerung - audiobook
Triss - audiobook and paperback
Loamhedge - audiobook and paperback
Rakkety Tam - audiobook
High Rhulain - paperback
Eulalia! - hardcover

The only ones I don't have in any form are Doomwyte, The Sable Quean, and The Rogue Crew.

Everything in hardback - with mostly UK cover illustrations - most Hutchinson, with some others (Triss and Loamhedge in Penguin - I absolutely adore the pink/purple cover art for Triss). I really do not like the illustrations for Philomel, and was pretty disappointed (>:() all the recent books were published with them first - they lack charm; I find the artwork to be harsh and the colours dull and unpleasant. Only one I don't mind is Rakkety Tam, which the Penguin edition although having much better colours I find the character to look a bit strange on the front (a little chubby! ;))

I only started buying hardbacks on release since Marlfox, as that was the time I caught on to the series. All the rest of the hardbacks I purchased through the La Dita bookshop over the years (yeah quite a lot of money!)

Mossflower, I have that green leathery hardback copy (anniversary edition? I can't remember) plus a paperback (RedFox) - about a dozen or so other books also duplicated in paperback. Oh and the Redwall anniversary edition. And then all the extra books, maps, cookbooks, graphic novels, DIY paper abbey (I love this, but have it folded away because it takes up a huge amount of space), assorted Reader's Club stuff (bookmarks, badges, stickers, posters and suchlike), and of course a dozen Christmas cards (so sad when this stopped)!

I really do not like any of the TV series at all, so none of them, and I only have the Long Patrol audiobook and first song CD. Same goes for any of the figurines and other stuff - do not care much for them.

All my stuff is boxed up at the moment and not at easy access, so can't check any of the specifics. Haven't bought anything since the Rogue Crew, so don't have any of the new paperback versions with the shiny covers.

I do not own any other of BJ's works - I did have a copy of the first Castaways, but it didn't grab me as much, so gave it away.

Edit: What I really need to get is a version of Mattimeo with nice cover artwork, because the edition I have is extremely ugly; that and IIRC a "normal" version of Mossflower too.

I have all 22 Redwall Novels, Seasons 1 & 2 of the show on the Funimation DVDs & Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, which I still have yet to finish. It started out good, but I just lost interested around the time the MCs got to what appears to have been Post-World War Era England.

I do want to get some of the other stuff- namely the two anthologies & the "tribes of..." books.

I use to have a pretty good sized collection. I sold a lot of it off due to the fact that I was moving and just needed the money. I kept a few of the soft covers, the "Advanced Reading Copies", and the trading cards. Here are some old pics that I took about 2 years ago. It doesn't include what my entire collection was though. It continued to grow. I had all the books minus the newest and last one, the trading cards, tons of paperbacks, TONS of extra hardbacks, and other just miscellaneous items. I forgot I had that t-shirt and teaching material. Man, I wish I never got rid of that stuff! Most of the books I had were 1st edition. I was only missing 1st edition on Redwall and Mattimeo, which at the time, were just too expensive. There's a video link at the bottom if the pictures aren't enough for you guys :)

Shortly after the collection started:

Have you read those ones?

Well, I had one copy of every novel & the Funimation sets for season 1 & 2 of the show, but I had about 2/3 of everything I owned stolen a few months back- including my entire DVD collection, my entire video game collection, my PS3, a couple pieces of computer equipment, my phone, about half of my clothes & several books (which included my copies of Pearls of Lutra, Marlfox, Doomwyte, The Sable Quean & The Rogue Crew)

You're listing off all of this expensive tech you've lost, and my first response is, "No, not the Redwall books!"

But really, that's terrible. Were you able to get anything back--like, something was found, or insurance kicked in, that sort of thing?

My mom got a free download of the book "Redwall" on her Kindle. I might read it on that when I come to it (I'm currently re-reading the series in chronological order). I might try to persuade my mom to read it.

I didn't get any of it back, mainly because of how it got stolen & my ignorance of Ohio law. Which really annoys me because, looking back, I had three chances where I could have gotten it all back, if I would've known more... but, at the least, there is zero chance this will ever happen again. >:(

I guess I ought to say it, though. I moved in with some "friends" of mine so we could all get on our feet. The one literally forced me to get a job I didn't want just because they hired people constantly, then immediately lost his jobs, forcing me to pay for everything. Then we had to move because he didn't have the money to pay the rent & refused to even try because he was mad at his landlord. I gave him the money for another apartment, which was literally everything I had left at the time, then never put my name on the lease.

After that, I was pretty much single handedly paying rent, utilities & everything they needed for their kid while they took care of the food with their food stamps. After five months, I had a freakout at work & lost my job, they got pissed off about several things & I left. Then, they refused to give me back my Playstation because at some point, I'd accidentally broken their XBox. I got into it with them over that & they refused to give me anything back. I threatened to take them to court & they threatened to destroy all of it so I couldn't have it back either.

Unfortunately, I now realize that I could have easily waited to get the rest of it back, then used my sales receipts for the Playstation to get that back... or recorded him admitting what was mine... or recording him threatening to destroy it... or just called the police the day I left in the first place & had them supervise the removal of my property.

*sigh* As is, it's impossible to get any of it back & I'm completely out of chances. In order for it to work in court, I'd have to pay to have the case filed, then prove in that case that I owned all said stolen property, that I did live with them for a time, that it was in their possession at the time of my removal from the home & that it was never returned. Unfortunately, they managed to manipulate me right around every single one of those. I was never officially on the lease, so I can't prove I ever lived there. I don't have the receipts, or otherwise proof of everything that was lost & there are no witnesses to place those objects in their home. Not to mention that if I lost the case, they could sue me for Harassment & Wrongful Lawsuit. So, I'm screwed.

Signed: Mossflower Collector Edition, Redwall Winter's Tale, Graphic Novel, Tribes/Map&Riddler/etc books, Cookbook, Great Redwall Feast, Lord Brocktree, Martin the Warrior, Mossflower, The Legend of Luke, Outcast of Redwall, Mariel of Redwall, The Bellmaker, Salamandastron, Redwall 20th Anniversary, The Long Patrol, Marlfox, High Rhulain, Eulalia!

Bunch of readers club stuff - christmas cards, badges, bookmarks, other random trinkets, posters and newsletters.

Oh and a print I ordered from a company - just put together the Triss cover art with the newer Redwall logo and faded it down - was for a World Book Day fancy dress in a previous workplace, because it's surprising how few people had heard of this. Even English teachers, which really surprises me. :o

Reason Mossflower is not on the top shelf is because it doesn't fit! :( one of these Ikea shelves, and it's about 1cm too tight - can squeeze it in but don't want to squash the covers. I'm still planning on finding a copy of UK Hutchinson edition of Mossflower anyway, and the UK editions of Rakkety Tam and Eulalia because I prefer David Wyatt's cover art for these. Unfortunately Doomwyte, The Sable Quean and The Rogue Crew only have the one cover art version, but no worries.

Also probably keeping an eye out for an original Redwall, or the limited edition - I missed out on that not finding out about the series till the late 90s.

I would probably like to get some more of those Red Fox paperbacks one day - the spine illustrations are really well done.

Whoa - plenty of Redwall books here! Nice! One of your images isn't working, though. I've not really come across any of the books myself, aside from the novels (obv.) and the graphic novel (which I now also have).

The Red Fox book covers/spines are the best! Wish all mine were in that style, but sadly they stopped it when Triss came out to annoy people like me who want their collections to be all the same.

redwall readers' club. it was a thing in britain, I believe. Redwall.org used it as a way to give away promotional material such as trading cards, badges, wall posters, etc.

Oops, when I first posted the images were huge, not having resized them - had to quickly edit and reupload onto image hosting site. Hope the link of that image is now fixed - just all the small readers club trinkets I put in the abbey folder.

Edit - regarding the other books, they are all pretty interesting. The tribes ones are pretty much wiki style info and maps/puzzles. I really like the Winter's Tale book - beautifully illustrated, just like the Great Redwall Feast.
The Graphic Novel is, interesting - initially it didn't grab me as much, but on rereading it's pretty cool with the almost comic book style, and some of the drawings (particularly love the Sparra section) are great.

Oh and the Cookbook is kind of funny. :D I mean many of the recipes can be figured out and kind of just giving special names to normalish food (eg the Deeper 'n ever pie, or the hare's crumble, and so on). But again it's nicely illustrated.

@PanopticEmu
High Five! Yeah those badges etc were all cool, mine are all in the "build your own abbey" folder, just cba to get them out!  :D

My only regret is that the books were left in storage in varying temperatures/humidity for some years due to circumstances (but in good plastic boxes, just not fully sealed), which has caused a mottling effect on the very top edge of a few of the books. :( Fortunately doesn't go on to the page at all, but hopefully there is some way to clean this up a little - I've seen people use very fine sand paper to do this.
Edit - also, that Castaway's foil edition looks awesome! :o Amazing cover.

I own all 22 redwall books, with an accidental second copy of Eulalia! I also have the redwall graphic novel. Nothing much, but is keeps me content. BUT I do have all 57 warriors books! (including the novellas and super editions) so that's kind of impressive.

I've got the Red Fox edition all the way up to The Taggerung, with doubles of Martin the Warrior, Mossflower (?) and Marlfox. They're not all in perfect condition, (Redwall is missing the first chapter) but they're well loved and all readable. (Finding the first chapter of a book really isn't hard. I just got a sample on Kindle and did it that way)
I also have two copies of Triss and one of Loamhedge, Rakkety Tam and High Rhulain.
All of the books are second (or maybe third or fourth) paw and have gone through five older siblings, so that somewhat explains why they're slightly shabby. Still, they do the job, so I'm happy.

I currently have Ace paperbacks of the first 16 books + Eulalia! and Doomwyte (the latter a latest addition thanks to Book Depository); Loamhedge and High Rhulain hardbacks (the latter I got as a prize from Leatho a long time ago, thank you!) plus all three Castaways also in Ace paperbacks, Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales and The Redwall Cookbook. All of them (except Doomwyte and High Rhulain) are fruits of my secondhand book hunts through the years.
