Title: Funniest Redwall moment

whats the funniest moment you've ever read (or watched) in the series?

Having just reread Outcast, this is the moment that first came to mind for me (and this probably reveals a lot about me ;)):

Quote from: Excerpt from Outcast of Redwall, by Brian JacquesBryony stopped throwing the berries and stamped her foot-paw on the bank, looking sternly at the grinning little bank-vole. "Don't say such awful things!"

This seemed to encourage the tiny creature; he leapt in the air, waving his paws wildly. "Ferret smashed inta likkle bits! Yeeheehee! Lotsa bits! 'Had one place, paws anuther, fur everywhere, tail inna nundred bits. Smashed ferret! Yeehee-heehee!"

This probably isn't *the* funniest moment, but it's a moment, definitely.

My favourite bit has to be in Marlfox, where Cregga dumps Florian into the actor's cart and kicks it away in the direction of Redwall. Hahaha!
Or it might be when Gonff pulls faces at Tsarmina in Mossflower.  :P

Good one. I also like when Lonna Bowstripe goes out and shouts, 'My name is Lonna Bowstripe! I eat rats!' OK, maybe that's not funny, but I think it is.

Love that whole chapter. The Pearls of Lutra, if you were wondering. I love any moments with Dibbuns, like DAB.

I'm currently rereading Triss, and I found this little gem.

Quote from: Triss by Brian Jacques
Shogg interrupted, asking and answering his own questions. "Ahoy there, Welfo, me ole mate, 'ow are ye?" "Oh, Shogg, I'm fine, I'm much better, thank you!" "Ho that's nice, now you git yoreself well, missie, an' eat lots o' good vittles." "Oh, I will. Thank you for coming to see me!" "Aye, an' thank ye for chattin' t'me, mate. Nice talkin' t'ye!"

Best one-sided conversation ever!

Another for Shogg's onesided conversation with Welfo! :D

Oh, oh, I love Mariel's first meeting with Tarquin! The hares are hilarious, but I must say, Tarkers took the cake in that one.

And let's not forget Bosie's ode to Brother Torilis!
QuoteOch, were ye no a babby once,
ye hairy auld yahoo?
Ah'll bet yore kindfolk got a fright
when they set eyes on you.
BFF's from the very first. :') ....or not.

OH! And all of Horty's songs in Loamhedge! And....! And I'll stop there.

I'm re-reading Martin the Warrior at the moment, and I came across something that made me laugh out loud when I first read it.

Quote from: Martin the Warrior chapter 10A halfeaten mushroom pastie was flung from the lean-to and struck Felldoh squarely between his ears. The pastie was followed by a hare, who dived on it, jumping on Felldoh's head in the process. "Bad form that, chuckin' a chap's supper about, Rowan. Hey there! There's a bally squirrel here, tryin' to use me pastie as a hat!"

It gets me every time. ;D

From the Taggerung:

Ho welcome to the feast, you beast,
I hopes you trip and fall.
I've got a fat grandpa, ha ha ha,
Who'll prob'ly eat it all.
The lark defends his feathery chest,
The sun has sunk into his vest,
If he don't bathe before too long,
There'll be an awful pong...

Love that part, and how his grandpa thought he was talented and didn't realise he was singing about him!

The hare was from Outcast of Redwall, his name was Jodd, thats the short version, DO NOT make me try to say his full name.  he eventually got married, i wonder if his wife ever found out about his long name?

My funniest moment, (or the one i can remember the most) was when Clecky from Pearls of Lutra was singing that song (somthing about a very large food fight) at the Ruddaring Holt while Viola and someone else were shooting peas a him and Clecky ended up blaming the shrew sons of LogaLog.  that was just hilarious.

I like at the end of rakkety tam when a story is told about a hare at salamandastron that had dust on his sword, so the drill Sargent told him to shine it until he could see his face in it. Later that night, a captain was walking along the beach on the way to his bed when he saw the hare still shining his blade. When he stopped to complement on his sword and ask if he was going to go to sleep, the hare replied that he can't stop until he sees the sergeant's face in his blade. But he couldn't find it ;D

Love that story

That was from the movie? That explains why I couldn't remember the quote when my friend said it to me!
One of my family's favorites is at the end of Outcast of Redwall:
Rillbrook: "Watch now, I'll show you something my father showed me, just as his father showed him..."
Burrbob: "An' his father showed him, just as his Aunt Thingummy showed him an'..."

We quote that one all the time! There are so many other funny parts I could be here a long time trying to list them all, but that previously mentioned scene in Pearls of Lutra cracks me up every time!

There's a few moments I remember fondly.

"Salamandastron": Ferahgo gets burned by scorching hot water, and Klitch has a big grin on his face. Always funny when it happens to somebody else.

"Martin the Warrior": Pallum mimicking The Warden's "I am the law!" I was disappointed when the mocking didn't appear in the TV show.

"Legend of Luke": Beauclaire ranted about a bunch of things, then Vurg's response was "You didn't say wot wot." In the same book, Beauclaire was saying nonsense nautical terms, he was asked whether he knew what any of that meant, and he replied no.

"Lord Brocktree": Dotti's mad at her pals for forcing a boring job on her, so she revises the instructional diagram she was given, making Ruff fat among other things. Eventually the pals return, and Ruff takes a look and says "Oi, that ain't the way I drew it."

"Triss": Scarum getting his teeth stuck in the boat.

"Rakkety Tam": Yoofus is gloating that he knows the woods like he knows his wife's face. Doogy calls his bluff and covers his wife's face, asking what color her eyes are. Yoofus makes a wrong guess, leading his wife to scream at him.

"High Rhulain": Cuthbert yells "HAHAAR!", waking up Tiria like a bucket of ice cold water.

"Eulalia!": Some goodbeast threw a snake at Kurdly's face. "But [the snake's] tail landed in the fire. This move did not improve the snake's temper."

When Vitch thinks he got bitten by a pike in the Mattimeo TV series.

There are so many funny moments it's hard to choose, but here's one that's always been a favorite of mine (and that always makes me laugh:

'"Supreme sacrifice, wot? Chap keepin' another chap afloat in a bally swamp with his harolina. Not many'd do that y'know. Bet Hon Rosie'd think it was a jolly noble effort on my part- fact I'm sure she would!" He turned to the big frilled lizard that was following him. I mean to say, a chap's harolina is a very personal possesion, wot? Omigosh! Eulaliaaa!" Tarquin suddenly brained the lizard with the harolina, knocking it flying into the swamp.'

I like Martin's sense of humor too. :)  For me the funniest part was the bragging contest between Bucko and Dotti!  I love that part!
Although Thrugg is pretty funny too, when he returns with flowers of Icetor and tells his somewhat irritated sister Thruggann that there was a question he'd been waiting to ask her the entire journey.  She instantly forgets her irritation that he'd taken so long, and says fondly "And what might that be, o brother of mine?"  To which Thrugg replies "What's for tea? I'm starved!"  :P

What about in Triss where Bladd is getting chased by Kurda with the sword? I knwo it's not exactly FUNNY, but for some reason, it cracks me up every time! And then at the beginning of Triss where the three are locked in the cells and Shogg calls out to Flith "Don't go sittin' on yore spear vermin, or you'll damage yer brains!" That is hilarious.

That scene is the best!  I love it when Bucko says something about having looked death in the face, and she says "Now that you mention it, you are looking a bit pale.  Have you got a tummyache?" *Bucko raises his paws to strike her*  "Ah yes, exercise is always good for a stomach-ache. Some funny moments (to me at least), was with Jukka the Sling and Grood. It was funny.

Jukka: What think thee, Grood?
Grood:........
Jukka: Watch thou tongue Grood!

He only said one line, and he wasn't saying anything bad, but she told him to stop using that language. He usually never got to say anything though.

Post by: Osu on August 29, 2011, 09:47:53 PM
LOL I liked Grood. He was always getting smacked for language - apparantly too heinous for we, the readers, to see - but Dotti was better at that sort of thing. One wonders where these kiddos learn the stuff! ;D

It's not really meant to be funny, I don't think, but in Rakkety Tam, when the captain, Wonwill, and the patrol are marching out to meet the vermin - Fortindom and Wonwill are just then making their battle plans. As they are marching onto the field. Wut? XD I LOL whenever I get to that part, haha.

That bit made me smile. :D

This part from Mattimeo:

It was difficult for Mattimeo to ignore Vitch. Now the rat was wiggling a paw to his snout end at his enemy. The young mouse straightened his back from the pile of baskets. "Right, that's it! I've taken all I can stand of his insults." Quickly Tess doged past Mattimeo and ran towards Vitch, who was still grimacing impudently. Angrily, the young churchmouse picked up the first thing that came to her paws. It was a pliant rose stem. "Look out, Vitch, there's a great big wasp on your tail," she cried out urgently. "Stay still, I'll get it!" Startled by Tess's warning cry, Vitch obeyed instantly, turning and bending slightly so she could deal with the offendng insect. There was no sign of a wasp behind Vitch. Tess swung the rose stem, surprised at her own temper but unable to stop the swishing descent of the whippy branch. It thwacked down hard across Vitch's bottom with stinging speed. Swish, crack! Yeeehooooooowowow!" The rat straightened like a ramrod. Leaping high in the air, he rubbed furiously with both paws at the agonizing sting.
Cornflower came hurrying over. "Oh, dear, the poor creature. What happened, Tess?"The young churchmouse looked the picture of innocence, though she felt far from it. Blushing deeply, she stammered an excuse. "Oh golly. Vitch had a wasp on his bottom, but I couldn't brush it off in time. I think he's been stung."Vitch was thrashing about on the grass, tears squeezing out onto his cheeks as he rubbed furiously at his tender rump. Cornflower was genuinely concerned. "Oh, you poor thing. Don't rub it, you'll make it worse. Go to Sister May at the infirmary and she'll put some herb ointment on it for you. Tess, show him where it is please." Scrambling up, Vitch avoided Tess's paw and dashed off, sobbing. Tess turned to Matimeo. "Aaahhh, poor Vitch. It must be very uncomfortable," she said, her voice dripping sympathy. Mattimeo tried hard to keep a straight face. "Indeed it must. It's a terrible thing to be stung on the bottom by a churchmouse, er, wasp, I mean." Cornflower put her paws about them both. "Yes, of course. Now you two run off and play. There may be other wasps about and I don't want either of you stung."

So hilarious! The best part is, they didn't even get punished for it! Hahahahahahaha!  :D ;D

It probably was one of those moments!

Rereading Lord Brocktree at the moment, the banter between Dotti and Brock is amusing. I like it when Dotti corrects Ruff's grammar and draws over his drawings of Brock and Ruff to give them a fat tummy and droopy nose - and of course the characters reactions to it after. :D
Title: Re: What do you think is the funniest redwall part?

Haha, I remember that part! At first Brocktree was all, "LOL suck it up, Ruff!" until he saw his Dotti-ized portrait, then he had an absolute cow. I laughed and laughed... I always thought the friendship between Dotti and Brocktree was strange, he's such a serious character I wouldn't think he'd take to friendship with a girl like Dotti so easily, if at all.

The fights between Dotti and Bucko were pretty hilarious, too, especially when she got into the ring and just stood there insulting him. XD Also, the letter Dotti's mum writes to Blench, basically tearing Dotti apart, and all Dotti has to say about it is, "alas, the plight of a fatal beauty!" or something like that. ;D

You've got me laughing at this scene all over again.

:D there are so many funny moments  ;)

loved this one...

"Oh, corks. Do I have to climb up that great swayin' thing an' fold all those windy old bedsheets? Do I really, sir?"
Rawnblade pointed a stern paw to the topmast. "Up, Woodsorrel, up!"
-Mariel of Redwall (Rawnblade to Tarquin L. Woodsorrel :D)

Log a Log whipped out his rapier and pointed it at the stairs leading down to Cavern Hole. He yelled urgently, "A big rat with a bag of strawberries just ran down there! We can't 'ave that, can we? Get 'im!"
Whooping and roaring, the Dibbuns tore off in pursuit of the imaginary villain.

Oooh, that one part where the Dibbuns were on the wall and were throwing vegetables and stuff at the ones below to keep them off. (The picture for the chapter was great too.)

It's been a little while since I read any Redwall book (since I've been reading LotR and Crime And Punishment recently), so I honestly can't remember any funny moment in Redwall that well  :-\

Oh, I forgot what book it was from (Mariel of Redwall, maybe), but there was a band of rats attacking Redwall and dibbuns (Grubb, Bagg, and Runn I think) and they stole knives from the kitchens. They were chopping the grappling hooks that rats were throwing over the side of the walls while the Redwallers were busy attacking the rats from the other side.

Child murderers. . . Or would it be "murderer children"?
Title: Re: Funniest Redwall moment
Post by: Eulaliaaa! on January 30, 2015, 12:59:36 AM
Murderous children, I think. I'm pretty sure they didn't know the death and destruction that they were causing, I doubt they would have killed the rats if they knew.

Can you really call them murderers anyway? Murder is unlawful killing, and since those varmints were invading the abbey with the intent to kill then their deaths were well deserved.

Self defense, then.

I don't think that they would have been allowed to know that they were responsible for the deaths of quite a few creatures; would have scarred their minds, methinks.

Self-defending children it is. It would have traumatized them, knowing they had actually killed other creatures. They thought it was all a game.

Love that whole chapter. The Pearls of Lutra, if you were wondering. I love any moments with Dibbuns, like DAB.

That was the one I was gonna say. Especially when in a later book when Arven is grown and Tansy reminises about him saying that.

From Mattimeo.

Basil shot out of the Abbot's study like a rocket, calling over his shoulder as he went, 'Last one in bed and fast asleep's a rotten egg. Yaaaah!"
Formole entered the study, rubbing his nose. "Oi jus' bin a-runned over boi a mad creatur'. Hurr."

"Friar Hugo, old friend, brace yourself. I am the bearer of tragic news!"

Alarm spread across Hugo's pudgy features. "Tell me, Jess. What dreadful thing has happened?"

Jess spoke haltingly in a broken voice. "I fear that Cluny has tore up one of your oldest and most venerable dishrags. Alas, Redwall will never see it wipe another plate."

I *love* Jess.

Oh, the time in Mossflower when Martin and Gonff are in thecell.

"Oh, goodness me. A stick. We're supposed to take this whole place single-pawed with a stick. What a useful thing to send us." Martin says. Or something like that. That part had me laughing all over again last night. ;D

I really liked the part in Triss when the Badger and Hare here a story about an old lady or something like that. The hare goes, "I miss me ol' family and the hut we live in." The Badger replies saying, "You don't live in a hut you live in a blinkin' mountain!" I think that is how it went.

In my opinion this was hilarious...

From Redwall:

Bull Sparra aimed a kick at Matthias, who dodged nimbly and started to dance and sing with a silly expression on his face.
The King stood with his head cocked to one side, amazed at the performance of this strange mouse.
Matthias pranced comically about, improvising a song as he went:
"Up higher than before,
I'm near the roof indeed,
The King gave me a collar,
His sister holds the lead."

Round and round he skipped, repeating the verse over and over.

It's funny to picture that. :D

One of my favorites was when Romsca tricked the monitor lizards into staying the forecastle cabin, because the ship's motion was the roughest there, so they'd get seasick, and they'd just stay in their bunkers, so she could have a bit of peace and quiet. Then Lask comes up on deck to complain about how cold and seasick he was, and Romsca's all "It's so calm out here, we're barely moving. Wait until we get to the really rough seas, there's be ice thick on the riggings, and the waves'll be high as mountains" and then he has a panic attack and rushes off to his cabin at top speed, and Romsca and her friend Bladeribb (the steersrat) can't stop laughing at the look on his face. ;D
