Hi, Redwall fans!

A couple of friends and I have been producing a Redwall podcast called The Red Wall (https://soundcloud.com/user-985956733) for a few months, and someone on Reddit suggested I post it here as well to get the word out. Each episode we're rereading one of the books (in publication order) and talking about themes of society, religion, race, gender, and everything else we can think of, through a leftist lens. We're all huge fans of the books and we're having a lot of fun reading them again with a little more perspective than we had as kids.

Skan the Skab, The Red Wall Podcast Episode 3 on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-985956733/skan-the-skab-episode-3

On episode 3, we wonder if "Mattimeo" was partially written so that Jacques could air some grievances with a labor union he once worked with. There is a *lot* going on in this book, including three entirely separate villains, a Redwall mystery that doesn't seem to make much sense, and some of the most egregiously bad racial stereotyping we've seen in the books so far. Pour one out for Warbeak; we stan a Queen.

If any of you like what we're doing and, like us, are fans of the food in the Redwall series, our cohost Mellie is creating original recipes inspired by the woodland feasts for each book that you can get access to over at our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/TheRedWallPod). You can also follow us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/TheRedWallPod) and on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheRedWall/) for updates and more discussion!

The following is a list of things to bring on holiday:

Thank you for the warm welcome! The recipes she's making are out of this world. I hope folks here check out the show and let us know what they think!

Hey Matt! (I am that guy from reddit :P)
I would suggest making a making an overall Red Wall topic and post for every new episode inside it as opposed to one new topic for every new episode.
(@Captain Tammo, could we get this pinned?)
Keep up the great work! I will defiantly check out those recipes!

MattTheGweat

Oh cool, I wasn't sure exactly how to go about that. Happy to do it, thanks!

Captain Tammo

Sure we can pin it! And I'll change the title of the topic so it's for the series. Welcome to the forum! ;D

Oh! Politics and Redwall, two of my favorite things! I'll be sure to listen.
It matters not what you fight, but what you fight for.

Jack the Quick

I'll be sure to check it out. Welcome to the forum, by the way.

The Taming of the Literal Shrew - Episode 4 ("Mariel of Redwall") https://soundcloud.com/user-985956733/the-taming-of-the-literal-shrew-episode-4

We're back with book 4 in the Redwall series, "Mariel of Redwall." We talk about the role of female characters in this (supposedly) most feminist of the books we've read so far, why the pirates would have been better off forming a union, and what this book says about the nature of violence. Matthew has a meltdown over what the economy of this world is supposed to be, Sam speculates that Joseph the Bellmaker may have trafficked in blood minerals, and Mellie is somewhat less than impressed with Jacques's recipe construction.
