The Dwellers of the Dark Forest

In Dark Forest dwell beasts who have resigned

From their breathing life to that which is ethereal.

Here spirits live on through rest of time,

The shades passing here, and coming there.

One mouse sat gazing 'cross the broad, his face

That of firmness and an honorable life gone past.

Martin was his name, holding a warrior's grace,

From battles fought a long time ago.

"Martin," was the call that bade him to turn,

To the source of the voice: a new face in that realm.

"How come you here," Martin wished to learn.

"For a rat is not seen often by those here."

"My name, sir, is Blaggut; a searat was I.

"I spent once some time in Redwall, your home.

"It has been many seasons that have passed by,

"Since I changed from my once wicked ways."

"Still strange," boomed a voice, as loud as the wind.

"For vermin: most all are bad. Lord Brocktree am I;

"I pray you be at peace, and leave all evil behind.

"Look unto the dawn, where the living ever need help."

Seasons were seconds and years just a blink,

They watched lives toil and come to an end.

Mariel, Matthias, and others of the like,

All finding their place in Dark Forest paths.

They spoke of the passing and goings of life

The wartimes and peacetimes melding in time.

Their knowledge they shared so to help those alive,

Giving aid in ways many would not think of.

None there were sad, but shown for that below,

Whose lives made up of hardships and trying.

The light ever shone, with a light wind to blow

Steadily, pleasant and peaceful to feel.

Another strange happening, when seven pearls

Were fought over: A ferret did make herself known

To the eyes of the dead, for her less cruel morals,

And they wondered if they would speak to her.

She wandered the whole world after her death,

(A punishment for her crimes) for seasons before

She could pass into, the place where she could rest.

Vermin Romsca in Dark Forest? Strange, but not unjust.

There were also many vermin who were

Damned to Hell's clutches for their hatred and crimes.

From within their torturous lair they did stare

Angrily on all that is good and is kind.

Their hatred and malice did flail like some beast

Caught in a trap and fighting to be freed.

Their screams and their curses would curdle the best

Heart if they had been able to hear it.

There was ever a struggle between bad and good

Both felt the presence of the other, and fought it.

The kindness and firmness of those who were good

Grappled against murderous thoughts, evil, and rage.

It was only the peace in the minds of the just

That kept them from failing their constant fight,

With evil, whose minds were turmoil, hatred and lust.

No fight could be seen (if seeing you call it) but only in their thoughts.

Still the time passed, and creatures did thrive,

In rain, sun, snow, dry, wet, cold and hot,

Beneath the watching of those not alive.

Their work was not done; it had only begun.

If ever you die, and go to Dark Forest,

Keep to the good ways that sent you there.

For while in that realm you will surely find rest,

Stay vigilant to help and resist evil's sight.

I hope you enjoy this. . . different poem, and I'm interested to see what others think of it. :)
Cave of Skarzs

Cave potato.

Gonff the Mousethief

Wow! That was quite interesting! Never really thought of the Dark Forest in that way :D Over all, another good Poem Skarzs!
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.
