Title: Have you ever rooted for a bad guy?

Just yes or no, even if you rooted for the good guy too.  I liked Plugg Firetail, until he got killed.

:O  You... you...!  xD  I liked Romsca too, although it's somewhat hard if she's a gray or black character.

I admit I rooted for Ublaz with the conflicts between himself and the rebellious vermin in sampetra.

Also, I don't recall the book or character name, but there was a pair of vermin who stopped by the abbey. One was referred to as captain and was set on stealing things, but the other found a joy with abbey life and liked building boats out of barrels for dibbuns. The "captain" killed somebeast and they made off with some form of loot, but the other vermin choked him to death and brought everything back to the abbey. He said he was horribly sorry for what happened, along with "you can kill me now." But the abbeybeasts showed mercy. He shortly after left the abbey to build ships on the coast.

Now that guy was a vermin I rooted for. Could anybody tell me who he is or where to find him??

And heck, he wasn't even the main villain.

Yeah, it did kinda suck, didn't it? But then, I think I may have been a little more upset if he had been killed in a more dramatic way. He seemed to me a bit like a simple vermin (Forgot what species he is! I really need to read Mossflower again soon), and the poor guy had only just realized that as loyal as he was to Tsarmina, she only cared for herself.

I can't recall ever hoping a vermin would beat a goodbeast. Vermin-on-vermin conflicts, like the Blaggut thing, are a different matter.  For example, I didn't feel sorry about Gruven, and was pretty disappointed with how Plugg/Kurda played out.

It's bad enough the Redwallers had largely devolved into total jerks in the later books, but insulting creatures' grandmothers was a new low, comic purposes or not.

I believe that was in the Bellmaker, and his name was Blaggot.

similar people to shadow, more evil, more assassin-like and while none never really was as good as shadow was, some of them were really cool
they include:
oilback- Martin the Warrior (bit of a stretch)
Farran the poisoner- Salamandastron
Wirga's three sons-Loamhedge
Marbul- Outcast (my personal favorite, besides shadow)

I definitely rooted for Blaggut in The Bellmaker. I loved reading about how happy he was at the abbey, eating with the woodlanders at their great feasts and building cool barrel-boats for the Dibbuns. I nearly dropped the book when Slipp, well... DID THE THING (trying not to spoil it, here). I wish Blaggut could have gone on living at Redwall, but I understand why it was better for him to leave after that. While The Bellmaker doesn't stand out of one of my favorite Redwall tales (Mr. Jacques, you could've given the mousebabe a name!), it particularly liked that story arc.

Swartt I disliked for murdering Shang Damsontongue, the purple-tongued, bolas-wielding vixen of awesomeness. And for getting Balefur killed so easily. Aaand for getting Cap'n Zigu "outsmarted" and killed... honestly, any three of them were leagues better warriors and commanders than Swartt the Cowardly Scumbag could ever be. Balefur should have cleaved Swartt in half when he had the chance.

And this isn't even dealing with the fact that some books just took place in weird, vermin held locations (See: Pearls of Lutra, High Rhulain, and Mariel of Redwall). I do get the sentiment/desire for the vermin to put up a better fight at times (and would also liked to have seen more back & forth myself), but one must understand that this series WAS written with children in mind. A lot of the moral presentation was made rather simple, and the endings essentially had to be mostly happy (not to mention, it makes the books a reliable way to enjoy a fantasy story that you don't have to worry TOO much about having your heart crushed.... most of the time). All things considered, I think the books filled the space they were meant for very well, but leaves us a tad wanting as we've grown and come to desire a bit more balance in our reading and writing. Unfortunate in some ways, but as is clearly seen by the activity and variance of age on this forum, not enough to turn us away in the end.

A bit more inline with the title however, I kinda liked Klitch to be honest, he struck me as a bit... different. He seemed more competent than average, but wasn't too overly proud if I recall? He also did a pretty solid job

Who did y'all root for in Pearls of Lutra? I enjoyed the power struggle between the two vermin factions.

But concerning the topic, yeah, a lot. As a general rule, I root for the villains (Especially the less bright ones. Like the two rats in The Long Patrol).

I know most of you are going into shock because i liked clungy the scrounge. I liked his eye patch and his own tail which was his primary weapon in battle.

I rooted for Cluny. He came so close so many times, but he always failed. He tried so hard. Kind of felt bad for him.

Cluny the Scourge is also a favorite of mine...
If only the Joseph Bell didn't fall on him. That was a really sad ending. I actually think he looks a little cute (sometimes).

Hey there Hazel  ^-^

I've never really understood liking bad guys myself.  Like, if they're conflicted or eventually turn face, that's one thing, but the ones that are just evil (as most Redwall villains tend to be) I can never like.  That's just me though, I suppose. *Shrugs.*

By the way, Hazel, you should head over to the Introduction Topic (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=177.4890) and introduce yourself!  I'm sure the folks around here would like to welcome you to the forum.
