Title: Duet (OOC)
Post by: James Gryphon on August 19, 2015, 05:42:28 AM
I've felt for a while that availability and communication are key factors in determining how successful an RP is. Thus, I'm interested in running a two-person RP with somebody here. We can either do it like "Free", with a player-character each, or alternatively, the applicant can play the main protagonist, with me controlling all the other characters, in a "Choose Your Own Adventure"-type setting.

I'll take applicants 'til Thursday morning or so. PM me if you're interested, and I'll let you know at the end of that time period if you've been selected or not. I'll make the selection with respect to ability, availability, whether I think you'd be a good fit for my writing style, habits, and idiosyncrasies, and finally gender (I like girls better) ;).

Wow gender bias ;D

BTW do you want us to just send you a PM or do you want a Bio or short story or something like that?

Or,or,or,or,or,or,or,or,or,or,or...

Either one is fine. If you already have ideas for what you'd like to do, I encourage y'all to share them, but it isn't required.

Bumping this thread to close entry.

I got a bunch of interest in this. It'd be nice to be able to take you all, but that would defeat the purpose of a two-person RP. So, I'm announcing that the applicant I think'll fit the best with the above requirements is Skyblade.

Thanks to all of y'all for offering your time. If you didn't get picked, don't feel bad. There are lots of other RPs (including duets like this) to work on. I just figured Sky would be the best suited to compensate for my many weak spots.

@Sky: We can talk about the RP and work out the plot and all of that here; if you want to PM about it, that's okay too, though.

Yay! Thank you, James! :D

I think two-player RPs (or three, four, five...maybe not more than five because that defeats the purpose) are a great idea. Other people could start their own if they wanted :)

Well like I said, I think an RP in which we both play our own character and travel around would be cool. What do you think? I'm open to ideas.

That sounds fine. I do think it'd be nice to figure out a concrete plot to work towards. Me and you probably won't feel like doing this forever, so it'd be nice to be able to have a conclusion to our story arc.

As far as other things go, I'm kind of a traditionalist -- I like good woodlanders and bad vermin (at least to a point). I'm willing to compromise on that point if it's a big deal for you, though.

Do you know what sort of species you want to play yet? I haven't thought much about it yet. I did consider reusing the black cat from "What's Happening", but I think that's a little too unconventional.

I agree that we should have some type of plot. I would prefer if we had a general idea of the RP (like an outline of sorts), but enough flexibility to decide what exactly happens we go along. And yes, a good conclusion is nice.

I wasn't going to play good vermin anyway, so that's fine.

For species, I'm still deciding. I'm thinking maybe a badger or an otter, as they're my two favorites to RP as, but I also like birds.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to you. I've slept practically the whole day away, and I feel like I could go back in my room and go to sleep again. Just one of those days, I guess.

I just had a bizarre idea -- maybe we could do a good/bad team. Your character could be like Bryony on steroids, trying to redeem my villain. ;)

Otherwise, some of the species I'm considering:
Shrew
Vole (maybe "Terrus", a character I made for a failed early RP, could make a comeback)
Hedgehog?
Owl

It's all good. I kind of know what you mean :P

Oh, we could do a good/bad team if you wanted :)

Sounds cool! I'm still deciding my species, too.

How would this traveling thing work? Would we perhaps start at the Abbey and just journey around, maybe ending up in an idyllic island of sorts? O.o

If we do good/bad, that opens up my options a bit. I'd probably prefer to do wildcat (although I maintain that based on Mossflower alone it isn't an evil species, it did become a villainous species in the context of the entire series), but I might try a fancy rat (like Ackab Lekker), or a ferret or something.

Starting at Redwall is probably easiest. As far as the destination, I don't know. Maybe go on an adventure to some legendary place, and then my character's arc can determine what happens after that.

It's your choice, really. I'm leaning towards badger myself, in which I play the character I'm using in "What's Happening?"

Ooh, legendary place! We should hit a bunch of cool landmarks along the way.

I don't know whether you want to go ahead with this (what with real life and all), but for reference, here's Terrus' original bio from Quest for the Sword:

Name: Terrus
Physical Description: Light brown fur; slightly below average size. Consistently wears a brown cloak. Wields a short sword; also tends to carry along some small trinkets with him in his pockets.
Occupation: Hired thief, occasionally assassin
Place of Residence: A previously abandoned system of mole tunnels, hidden in the Western Plains
Age: Middle-aged
Species: Vole
Motivation: Wants to get as many "friends" as possible.
Personality: Seemingly light-hearted and sociable, but deeply delusional. Ascribes anthropomorphic qualities to inanimate objects and non-sentient creatures, speaking to them as though they're listening and can understand him. Can be easily soothed, manipulated, and controlled by someone who pretends to understand his condition.

Let me know what you think, and if you could handle being teamed up with somebody like that. If I was to use him, instead of coming up with a new character, I'd of course give him an update, overhaul and fleshing-out, to bring him up to the standards I had with Ackab Lekker (who's in the RP tournament and Original Character contest).

Of course I want to go ahead with this. It's a commitment I got chosen for, isn't it? I would like to avoid letting people down.

You can use whichever character you want. I'll be fine. Terrus looks interesting.

I think I'm going to be making up a shrew. If you do do a badger, the dichotomy should be interesting.

Since you have some idea of what you want to do, if you want to make your character first, that would be nice -- I think it would be easier to make mine then, to fit yours best.

Thank you :) I'll be working on it.

Don't worry, James. I'm still down for this, especially since it's with you :)

Name: Skyre the Blue
Gender: Female
Species: Badger
Age: Older teenager/young adult
Appearance: Skyre is small and not very strong for a badger. There is a blue tint in her white fur, and her tail is abnormally bushy like a squirrel's. She has battle scars.
Personality: Reclusive and not bold, unlike most of her species. Her heart is in the right place, though.

I'm still developing this character. Thank you for the patience :)

Here's my go at a draft. This will probably get expanded out as we go.

Name: Luddy
Species: Shrew
Gender: Male
Age: Mid-teens
Appearance: Short, broad and as bulky as an unnaturally high metabolism will allow. Dark, relatively thick fur for a shrew. Wears a simple black robe, and a belt which holds his weapon.
Clothing/Weapons: Rapier
Personality: Very protective and always ready to fight for someone he believes in. Equally at ease with banter, random subjects and nonsense, and deeper conversation. Not very confident, but can put on a good front. Semi-regular, sometimes dramatic mood swings.
Abilities: Literate and well-studied. High pain tolerance, allowing him to tolerate both lingering and sudden pains and wounds more easily than others. Is ambidextrous.
Weaknesses: Has no formal combat training, and thus isn't as good with a sword as he likes to imagine he is. Low endurance and runs out of breath more easily than others seem to. Can't swim.
History: The son of two former Guosim shrews that settled down to live at the Abbey. Lived an unremarkable life up to this point.

Looks great :) I think it'll work well with him.

How exactly do you want to kick this off, and what do you think our character's objective/motivation should be? I have an idea for a story arc, but it's dramatic enough that it wouldn't really be appropriate until we decided to end this, and that's hopefully a while down the line.
Title: Re: Duet (OOC)
Post by: Skyblade on September 13, 2015, 10:19:27 PM
Hmm. Skyre is a traveler, so she would be down for just seeing new places. If she came to like Luddy, she would be fine with going with him.

If they both stayed at Redwall for a good length of time, that's plausible.

How exactly did they decide to leave? Did your character want to leave the abbey to go someplace, or should I write it into mine?
Title: Re: Duet (OOC)

Perhaps Skyre, who has a sense of adventure, just wanted to go see the world and new beasts.

I think we have enough for an opening.

Should I write it, or do you want to?

Hi Sky,
Wanted to let you know I hadn't forgotten about this. I've just felt rather listless lately, and've been putting everything off, including school. Since I knew that you have a lot of stuff to do too, I figured you wouldn't mind taking some time to ease into this.

I have a few days' worth of material I need to catch up on for my course, but once I've worked that out, I'll try to make some time and write an opening.

I honestly understand. I've been putting off Overlord's Orders for too long, although I haven't forgotten about it. Speaking of such, I really need to post in that thread :-\

I don't mind. Take your time ^^
