Title: Pirates of the Caribbean
Post by: Ashleg on August 17, 2017, 05:12:13 AM
These movies are good.
The ride is good.
The song is good.

LET'S VOCALIZE THAT.

I haven't seen all the movies. Loved the ones I had seen back in high school when I saw them, but it's been at least half a dozen years since then so all I really remember is the "why is the rum gone?" bit.

Go see the one that just came out.
Trust me, it is worth it.

I don't watch movies in theatres (partly because I'd have to go out of town to do so), and seem to recall somewhat losing interest at one point in the series. If I see it, it'll probably be on Netflix some day or whenever the Disney Movie Club has it as the featured title.

I'm all right with the first three. The setting is interesting for me in the first. I know some people find the second and third a mess, but I did find them quite entertaining on my last watch. I found the fourth one dull; really lacking in an engaging story. Haven't seen the fifth.

The fourth one was, in all terms..."meh".
The fifth is very much in the spirit of the first three.

I'll make sure I get to watch it at some point!

Do it.

The villain is amazing.

And Barbossa really shines.

Done it! :D

You're right; it is more in the spirit of the first three. Definite improvement on the fourth.

Also I have now experienced the ride!!! :D That was cool. The animatronics and all the detail was so, so impressive.

Sweet!

Ah, when did you go?
(And which one was it? Land or World?)

World. :) I was going to say that I was (finally!!!) going to Orlando in the vacation thread, but I got super-stressed the day before going, really thinking I might not get let in to the US, so yeah, my 'woo, I'm doing this' post didn't happen. :0 Thankfully all was well!!! ;D So it was last week that I went.

But I have the England flag under my username. :P

*Inception*

Heh. Bad eyes, y'know...

That's the England flag? Are the English and British flags different?

Yes. The British/Union Jack flag combines the English cross and Scottish saltire (sp) flags, as well as the thin red saltire to represent Ireland.

It's kind of...weird. My least favorite out of them all. My bad, but not as good as the rest.

Half of two and all of three? Hmmmmm.

I've generally enjoyed most of the POTC--though the military historian part of me wines everyonce and a while--but have yet to see the fifth and probably won't for another couple weeks; being out of town sucks. On a second point, did people really dislike the fourth--that's with blackbeard right?--one that much? I've found it to be decent enough.

This is coincidentally my first post on this forum, so, hello all.

Arr, velcome.

No, I didn't hate the fourth, it's just not as good as the rest of them.

The only Pirates movie I've seen all the way through is the first one, and I doubt I'll ever go beyond that. All I've ever heard about the later movies tells me that the series just quickly loses all the genuine passion that the actors and film makers had for the first one. Plus they apparently start giving a whole complicated lore and mythology to the world, which I have zero interest in.

That said, I do genuinely love the first movie. It's so much fun, and definitely one of the best popcorn action-adventure movies I've seen outside the MCU or the first Men In Black. I also really dig all the stories I keep hearing about how a lot of the most enjoyable and iconic moments in this movie were actually just improvised by the actors (like, to the point that you've almost got to wonder if they even had a script).

Like this. Apparently that wasn't in the script; that's just Orlando Bloom doing his legit Johnny Depp impression on the fly. And they left it in. That's beautiful.

I definitely recommend you watch the newest one. It aligned with the first one very well and had lots of comedic moments that, I think, hit. You might just want to do a bit of reading about Barbossa first, if you skip two to four.

I watched them all and liked them a lot. I would probably rank them as,
#1 The Curse of the Black Pearl
#2 Dead Man's Chest/At World's End
#3 Dead Men Tell No Tales
#4 On Stranger Tides
