Title: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: Tungro on June 03, 2019, 10:51:09 PM
Out of Character Thread (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=10658.0)
Clan Culture Info (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=11017.0)

It is finally here!

Jack the Quick Character #1
Name: Busher
Age: 24 seasons
Gender: Male
Species: Squirrel
Weapons: Valuable curved dagger, wooden javelin
Personality: Prefers to be alone and brood, but if you can get close enough to him he can be funny and upbeat
Past: His family, who used to live deep in Mossflower woods, was killed by searats when he was young, leaving him to die. He survived, and when he grew he attacked and killed the searats who killed his family, taking a valuable curved dagger. He maintains ties with Redwall, though he lives alone in Mossflower.
Appearance: Unusual black fur with a red stripe running from his forehead to his extraordinarily bushy tail. He has deep blue eyes and often wears an iron chestplate stolen from searats on top of his green tunic. He wears a rope belt to hold his dagger and wears his javelin on his back. He wears leather boots and iron greaves overtop of black trousers.

The Grey Coincidence Character #1
Name: Kunick
Age: 14 seasons
Gender: Male
Species: Mouse
Weapons: His knitting needles and er- anything within reach
Personality: Mischievous to the point of annoying, loud, 'witty' and over the top (some say he has hare blood in him- he has never denied the rumour) Always willing to pull a prank or make a joke- even if noone else has the patience for it, addicted to knitting
Past: Incorigible since his birth in Redwall Abbey, which incidentally is the only place he's ever been to (because nobeast with any sense of sanity would unleash him upon Mossflower), the only thing his many scoldings had taught him was to knit- which now came to him compulsively
Appearance: Small, thin, with whiskers about as long as a needle each and a pair of large (some would say too-large) buckteeth
[close]

Jack the Quick Character #2
Name: Redtail
Age: 19 seasons (I'm not sure if that's young or old, I might have to change that)
Gender: Male
Species: Ferret
Weapons: Before: A rusty broadsword. After: A long curved sword with several jewels in its hilt and a deep black sheath, several small daggers tucked into hs belt and boots.
Personality: Ambitious and cruel; he is a good warrior (in vermin terms) but he is a coward at heart, and he flees if he believes he cannot win.
Past: He has served with many vermin hordes, but he has always deserted them in the end. He meets the samurai on their way to the abbey and attacks, killing one of their own and taking his sword and daggers (the after). He is recruited for his fighting abilities and (hopefully) rises to captain.
Appearance: He is your average ferret, grey with a black stripe, but he has superstition that every time he defeats an enemy, he dips his tail in their blood, hence the name Redtail. He often wears dark green trousers with black boots. He wears a deep black sword belt and sheath across his waist. He is usually bare chested apart from the bandolier that runs across it that carries most of his daggers. He wears a small black metal helm on his head with small holes for his ears.

The Grey Coincidence Character #2
Name: Katon
Age: 34 Seasons (so quite an old beast?)
Gender: Male
Species: Jerboa
Weapons: He commandeers one of the canons. But in close range he's got a katana.
Personality: He is honorable in his own way- that is he give his opponents the chance to run away before firing at them. Cold, distant and not much of a talker. Rather intelligent but also very arrogant.
Past: A member of the Jerboa clan with no qualms whatsoever about sacking Redwall. Because it's good for his clan.
Appearance: Short, wrinkled, old- is fond of scaled armor, which he wears over silk robes. A hygene freak.
That enough?

 Sebias of Redwall Character #1
Name: Bert
Age: 20 seasons
Gender: Male
Species: Hare
Weapons: A long dirk, lighting fast reflexes, and a saber.
Personality: A rather cheerful chap, always wanting to look on the bright side of things. Can however be very suspicious at times, but once you win his friendship, there isn't anything that could get in his way from helping you. He loves to play the flute. (Even if he's not that good at it)
Past: Grew up in Mossflower woods with his family. When his siblings left and his parents died, he took up traveled the lands. When he arrived at Redwall's gates, he knew that this was a place he could call home. He still lives in the abbey as a sworn protector. Woe to anybeast who wishes harm on his home.
Appearance: Tall and lanky, not unlike most hares. Brown colored fur, and wears a green tunic with a snakeskin belt.

 Jack the Quick Character #3
Name: General Chikaru (I thought that sounded Japanese-ish while staying a little bit easier to remember)
Age: 23 seasons
Gender: Male
Species: Jerboa
Weapons: Large crossbow, pistol, and a katana.
Personality: Always on the look for new officer or soldier materiel, doesn't like taking prisoners. Merciless in punishment unless he believes he can use them, in which case they often get away without punishment.
Past: He is the top captain in the caln's army, he is second only to Daimyo Yoshiaki. He has his own platoon but he also commands the other captain's platoon's. He is the officer in command of the patrol that Redtail meets. He is also very fast.
Appearance: He is lankier and more muscular than your average Jerboa. He has deep black eyes and ordinary samurai armour with green highlights. His sword had a deep green sheath. He wears his crossbow on his back and he never wears his helmet. His breastplate is adorned with medals. He has a black mustache.

It was unwise to laugh your head off while setting up a complex trip-wire. But nobeast sane would ever refer to Kunick as wise.
It was an incredibly complex practical joke he was immensely proud of. Whichever beast happened to leave the Great Hall first that morning, would trip, setting off a chain reaction that released a bucket full of mud onto them.
He'd probably wind up on dish duty again- but this was worth it!

Abbot Scarl emerged from the main Abbey building accompanied by Sister Golde. "Sister Golde, what do make of this new comer?"
"He intentions seem well enough, but I don't trust him. We don't really know much about him and he seems to have an unknown purpose"
"On the contrary sister, if I didn't know better I would trust him completely. He has already begun to take a good standing in our Abbey through various tasks and aid. His explanation satisfies me. Who are we to question him?"
"Hmm, I could be wrong Father, but if I were you, I would keep my senses up"
Scarl glared at her, "I have never let them down sister." They continued on in silence for a few moments before Scarl broke the silence. "I think we should have a feast sister, we have not had one in some time and we need a event to brighten up the spirt of Redwall and welcome Hashino to our Abbey"
"Do you think that is wise Scarl?" question Golde
"I see no problem sister, do you?"
"No Father, i'll go see to the preparations"
"Thank you sister, as for me, I will go ask Oshaw to spread the news around the woodlands." As he strolled away his paw tripped right over Kunick's tripline.

Busher bounded through Mossflower. He had spotted Oshaw walking through the woods, spreading the news about the feast. He smiled to himself. Redwall had the best food, it'd always been that way.
He stopped running right in front of the main gate. He knocked twice on the huge oaken door.
"Hello? Anyone there?"

As soon as the tripwire was sprung and the trap set, Kunick was flat on his back and shaking with mirth. A wiser beast (or a guilty one) would have run before the Abbot recovered enough to punish him. But with his legs kicking in air and his voice howling with laughter... he couldn't have run even if he wanted to.

Sister Golde opened the gates. "Why, hello Busher! We haven't seen you here in a while!" she said, moving aside so that he could enter.
"You know me, Golde. If you're holding a feast, I'll show up," he said, grinning.
They continued to walk towards the main building, all the while chattering in this manner. All of a sudden, another squirrel came running down the abbey.
"Busher Redstripe, you old tree jumper! Haven't seen you in a while, where've you been?" he cried, rushing to embrace Busher.
"Oh, you know, Jabda. Here, there, everywhere," Busher replied. Brother Jabda was the abbey bellringer, and he was good friends with Busher.
They walked through the main abbey doors, stopping in surprise at the sight of Kunick lying on the ground laughing. They looked past him and noticed Abbot Scarl standing there, covered in mud and speechless.
"Kunick! Go to the dormitories now! I will talk to you later," Sister Golde said, walking to see if Abbot Scarl was okay.

Korath the wearet knocked at the door of redwall abbey. Maybe they would allow him in.

Still shaking with mirth Kunick made a bee-line, not for the dormitories of course, but for freedom! His laughing form scuttled past Sister Golde and over Abbot Scarl and out- until he bumped into none other than the strange foreigner.
Redwall Abbey's latest guest did not even budge from the small mouse's sudden impact. Kunick on the other paw, landed on his rump.

Korath was getting impatient. The huge wearet raised his voice and yelled at the abbey "ELLO? SOMEVONE LET ME IN!"
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!

Kunick was not quite sure what to make of the strange-whiskered beast, He wore clothing very different from the habits of Redwall and claimed to come from a very far away land. He was a strange beast with a strange name, and not even Kunick had dared pull a prank on him. The beast helped him to his feetpaws, saying something or other to the degree of 'be careful when you run young one'.
The skinny mouse nodded, and felt his ear twitch. Somebeast was calling at the gate!
"Er- sorry again Mister Hashimoto. I er- had to see who wants in!" Grinning at his own clever excuse the mouse sprinted off.
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: One-Eye the wildcat on June 06, 2019, 05:20:42 AM
Korath heard the other beast coming and atempted to make himself presentable, no easy feat for such a beast.
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: The Grey Coincidence on June 06, 2019, 05:24:38 AM
Kunick stuck his head out over the walltops and felt his eyes nearly pop out of his skull. Standing at the foot of the wall, and just in front of the gates, was a beast he... well he wasn't sure what it was. It was big, and ugly- but hastily grooming itself.
Removing his knitting needles from the sleeves of his habit, the mouse got to work on a mitten.
"Hello friend!" He called down to the creature bellow. Redwall was certainly getting a lot of odd visitors...

Hello! said Korath, in a strange accent. "May I come in?"
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!

Wedaln had been doing his standard patrol of the wallop when he heard a knock at the gate then saw Kunick race up the wall closely presued by Sister Golde. His eyes narrowed, Kunick was now addressing somebeast at the gate. He quickened his pace and was soon at the wall. "Kunick! Just what do you think you are doing? Get down to the grounds where you belong!" Hashino interjected, "You make sure he gets treated well, I will go adress the new comer." Wedaln was slightly offended, but he knew there was nothing he could do for Hashino had already slipped outside and was addressing the creature in low tones. "Listen close" he hissed, "If you want to survive, meet me by the tall beach just south of here at the high moon tomorrow night." he now raised his voice "Now be off and never come back to this Abbey or you will regret it!"

Kunick had heard none of it. Upon being commanded down (and noticing that Sister Golde was in hot pursuit of him) he shot off like a thunderbolt. Down the stairs and past a collection of moles. Through the grounds, round the pond and into arguably his favourite place in the abbey. The kitchens!

Korath took a step forward, revealing his massive frame and ugly face. "Don't threaten me. I've taken enovv trouble to last me lifetime."
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!

Busher and Jabda hurried up towards the gate.
"Begone, vermin. You have no place here," Busher growled at the wearet, drawing his dagger. Beside him, Jabda raised his fists.

The massive wearet sighed. "Look, I do not vant trouble." Why was I born a wearet?

Somewhere in Mossflower, a lone Stoat by the name of Garlan travels through the woods with no real destination in mind. And as Garlan aimlessly wanders through the forest, the Stoat whistles to himself as he uses a whetstone to sharpen his old dagger which, aside from having a few stain marks, was unfortunately dull in a few places.
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: One-Eye the wildcat on June 06, 2019, 05:43:01 PM
Korath saw that the two redwallers would not back down, so the wearet decided to fight for his life. The massive beast drew an equally sizable cutlass. "I am leaving. Curse this abbey!" at this, the cutlass pointed towards Busher and Jabda. "And do no' follow me. Unless ye don't care for your life."
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: Jack the Quick on June 06, 2019, 05:46:19 PM
Busher stared at the huge wearet. "We have no reason to follow you. If you leave, that is enough."
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: One-Eye the wildcat on June 06, 2019, 05:48:33 PM
Korath gave a frightening smile, showing a pair of massive fangs, and lumbered off into the depths of mossflower wood. As he left, he decided that the abbey needed a lesson in manners.

The massive wearet pulled out his big crossbow, aimed it at the biggest abbey window he could see, and said these words. "Try dis on for size." the wearet pulled the trigger, and the massive bolt sailed into the abbey window.

The arrow bounced from surface to surface, as if made from rubber. A door know redirected it, and opening door deflected it, a slight breeze moved. Finally it flew down towards where Kunick was running. Fortunately for the young mouse, the arrow pierced only his tunic, unfortunately, the surprise (and the force of the arrow) knocked him flat on his back, while the arrow itself pinned him to the ground.

"I say there, young chap! Are you hurt?" A hare by the name of Bert asked, pulling the young mouse to his feet. "Where did that bally arrow even come from? This thing is massive!' He exclaimed, peering at the crossbow bolt. "By golly! Just wait 'till I find the beast who did this!"
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!
Post by: One-Eye the wildcat on June 06, 2019, 08:07:57 PM
Korath expected to hear screaming, but shrugged, and continued walking away.

The wearet came across a fallen branch, and decided to sit down and make another bolt, to replace the one he had shot into redwall.

"I-I'm fine." Stuttered Kunick, his eyes wide as saucers as he stared at the arrow that had very nearly turned him into mouse-on-a-stick. "Th-thanks." He said, clinging to the hare's arm so as to not fall over. The surprise had set his legs to shaking, which made standing upright far more challenging.
Title: Re: Summer of the Samurai!

Bert dusted the mouse off. "Good thing you weren't two bally whiskers to the left, eh wot?"

"Y-yeah." Kunick agreed, shaking his head dizzily from side to side. He gave a last great shudder and promptly went back to smiling. "Say, I don't think we've met before. I'm Kunick."

Finished making his arrow, the huge wearet got up and lumbered off into the woods.

Redtail walked through Mossflower woods, staring in disgust at his rusty broadsword. Too bad his old sword had been lost when he had fled his last horde. Just then, he spotted a stoat walking by. Quietly, Redtail began to follow him.

As Garlan was walking through the forest, he suddenly heard a feint sound somewhere behind him. Startled by this, Garlan immediately stops both his walking and his whistling and goes to grab his sword. But just before he grabbed his blade, he had an idea. Moving his paw away from the sword's hilt, Garlan starts walking again.

Redtail narrowed his eyes in suspicion. That stoat had looked very surprised for a moment. Quietly creeping along, Redtail circled around in front of the stoat.

Garlan continues to walk through the forest, but after Redtail finally revealed himself, he stops walking once again. And right after he stops, the Stoat draws his sword and holds it with both of his paws. But instead of charging or anything like that, Garlan just stands there with a big, toothy grin on his face.

"Got tired of sneaking around, eh?"

Kunick grinned. "Bert happens to be a very nice name too!" He was tempted to make a joke of one Bert the Slavemaster, but decided the hare had probably never heard of him anyways. The young mouse turned his head round and noticing that Sister Golde was nowhere in sight, turned back to the hare. "So where're you form?"

Suddenly, a massive shape shambled between the two. 'Umm, don't mind me, I'm just passing through!"

Korath the wearet made a point of avoiding the broadsword and sat down on a log. "By all means, continue. Just don't kill me."

Hearing the Ferret's threat, Garlan couldn't help but laugh as he started to slowly move forward. "As if I would ever listen to some dumb ferret with a rusty piece of junk!" Raising his sword, Garlan prepares to lunge forward at the Ferret. But just as he was getting ready to attack, a large Wearet suddenly shows up. Confused, Garlan just stands there and watches as the Wearet walked between him and Redtail before sitting down on a log. And even after the Wearet sat down, Garlan continued to just stand there with a bewildered look on his face.

Korath stood up, towering over Redatail, grabbed te broadsword in a massive paw.

Sheathing his longsword, Garlan rushes towards Redtail and Korath and tries to stop the fight.

"Whoa, calm down, you two! There's no need for any fighting! Especially when there are far better alternatives!"

Redtail snorted. "Yeah, sure. What better alternatives, may I ask?" he said, lowering his broadsword slightly.

Relived to see that they stopped fighting, Garlan answers Redtail and Kurath's question. "My alternative is quite simple: Rather than fighting each-other like a bunch of fools, we should work together. It is far safer to travel in groups, and we can accomplish so much more by sticking together. Also, traveling is less of a chore when you have some company."

Redtail swung his sword at the tree, smashing it to pieces.
"Anything's better than that piece of junk."

Korath recognized that his new companion needed a weapon, so the wearet pulled his massive crossbow off his back, and handed it to Redtail. "Here. Use dis."

Redtail shot him a quick grin.
"You know what, wearet, I think I like you. Though you can keep your crossbow, I always have my daggers here," he said, taking his daggers out of his boots.

Korath grinned back. It was good to not be hated. "Thank you, ferret. I do not think I got your name."

"Redtail. How about you two?" Redtail asked, swishing his stained red tail.

Korath scratched the top of his head. "So, what do we do now?"

"Make camp and try to find some way to get more vittles, of course," Redtail said, leaning against a fallen log. "After a good night's sleep, we can go find some unweary traveler to prey upon."

Korath grinned. "I like this idea. I will frighten him, so you two can steal his food."

"That sounds like an excellent plan! And who knows, maybe we'll find some good loot?"

Redtail smiled again, swishing his bloodstained tail meaningfully.
"I will find a new sword."

Korath drew his cutlass. "Let's break them in half, and then steal their stuff!"

Redtail smiled, these beasts seemed to share his bloodthirstiness. "Aye, that we shall."

"So where're you from?"
"Oh, lots of places don't ya know." Bert replied, waving his paw in a general sweeping motion. "Err...do you have any bloomin' idea who might've shot that bally arrow at you?"

Just then, Busher walked over. "I think I know. There was just a massive wearet at the door. I turned him away, though that might have provoked him to fire that arrow. We'll have to talk to Abbot Scarl."

"Errr- I think the Abbot is a bit pre-occupied at the moment. How about you two go talk to him, while I go do something else? Eh? Yeah, great idea!" The mouse turned away and made to leave. The last thing he wanted now was to go back to the Abbot he'd just pranked!

Sister Golde walked out of the abbey, closely followed by Abbot Scarl. The two of them watched the young mouse scamper away.
"Where do you think you're going?" Sister Golde asked, a frown on her face.
At the same time, Busher said, "Abbot, we have a small problem."

Busher shot the hare a glare. "As I was saying, he shot an arrow into one of our windows. Already there's a crowd there wondering about what happened."

"Hmm, I will send our cellar hog to mend it. Meanwhile, be a good fellow and fetch Wedaln and that rascal Kunick."

Busher sighed. Scarl never changed.
"Wait, Busher, go get reacquainted with everyone. I'll get Wedaln," Jabda said. Busher smiled in thanks as Jabda took off. A while later, Jabda entered the Cavern Hole with kunick and Wedaln, where everyone was hanging out.

Kunick was not sure how he'd been dragged into cavern hole, but he supposed he wouldn't have been able to evade capture forever...
Idly he knitted, waiting for his inevitable punishment.

Bert followed the Abbot and the others into Cavern Hole. It was time to introduce his self to the Abbey if he planned on making it his home. "Ahem. Excuse me, but you're Abbot Scarl I presume, eh wot?"

"Ah, Kunick, there you are! Get down do the kitchens right this minute and report to Frier Rogs! As soon as he is finished with you report back to me!"
"Brusher, please accompany Kunick and inform the Frier of our coming feast."
He turned to Bert,
"And you must be the newcomer I was informed of. What services do you require?"

Busher sighed. He had just been saved from having to get Wedaln, now he had to go see the friar. With a second sigh, Busher grabbed Kunick's arm to prevent any attempts at fleeing and started down the hall to kitchen.
OOC: Er, who's going to decide what Friar Rogs is going to do with Kunick?

Bert bowed dramatically. "Well yes, my splendid chap! I am here to ask if I'd be allowed to stay in this jolly Abbey of yours? ...I'm a great... um... fighter and food taster. Wot wot."

The Abbot looked at him doubtfully,
"We have plenty of food tasters and we have no need for fighting beasts. Hmm, I suppose you could stick around and just lend a paw wherever needed. Find Sister Golde and she will show you to your new room."

"Thank you, Father Abbot." Bert gazed around. "Er... And where would, uh... this jolly Sister Golde be? Eh, wot?"

Friar Rogs sighed at the sight of Kunick energetically waving at him. The mouse half-lived in the kitchens! And was always up to some sort of mischief... not that the poor Friar could prove anything... but once he'd discovered a suspicious number of crumbs on the 'freshly cleaned' dishes.
"Hello Friar!" Kunick called, grinning ear to ear.

Busher looked at the Friar with an exasperated look. "Hello, Friar. The Father Abbot sent me to make sure that you punish Kunick. Uh, can I go now?"
The Friar turned and looked at Busher with an amused look on his face.
"Yes, Busher. You may go. I will deal Kunick."
Busher grinned happily as he left the kitchens.

The amusement vanished almost instantly as soon as Busher was out of sight. It was only now that Kunick remembered he'd filled the Friar's matress with rotten apples last evening...
Well played Father Abbot... well played...
"You can start with the dishes." Rogs began, pointing at a pile of filthy, food-stained and slimy-looking plates, cooking utensils, spoons, forks and whatnot. The whole thing seemed to be overburdening the sink and indeed nearly reached the roof of the kitchens. It towered over Kunick to say the least...
"After that we have last Wednesday's laundry."
To the mouse's horror the laundry basket's pile was bigger than a badger.
"I daresay it shall take you a while. I want everything spotless. No feast-attending for you unless it's all done to my satisfaction."
Even the ever-confident Kunick had to swallow nervously at the grin of pure evil on the Friar's face.
"Now get to work, chop chop or I'll chop you up and add you to the stew."

Bert shrugged his shoulders. "I guess I'll go find this Sister Golde then. Tootle pip and cheerio!" With that, the hare spun on his heel and started to walk toward the large red abbey's door. "Hmm...I might see where the bally kitchens are while I'm at it." He commented quietly to himself.

Some Unrecorded Time Later
The feast was finally here! After the preparations were complete, the Abbot announced that the feast was to commence the following morning and go one throughout the day and into the night.
"I want this to be more than any feast Sister, I want this to be remembered for many seasons to come."
"Why don't we make a whole day out of it, Father Abbot? We could hold games and competitions between meals."
"That sounds like a great idea sister!" replied Abbot Scarl, "We need to get the final preparations done by tomorrow!"

Several Days March Away
Kobayakawa rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "What do you think Ashigai, should we cross the stream here or follow it down a few more miles?"
Kobayakawa was a low ranking Samurai, he had been tasked by Diamyo Otomo Yoshiaki to act as a reconocense force for the main body of clansmen. He had with him around a score of yari and katan Ashigaru and his three brothers who were armed with matchlocks. He estimated that he was around three days ahead of the clan.
Ashigai interrupted his thoughts, "I think we should cross her and make camp when we find shelter."
"You have chosen well, Ashigai, we will cross here"
