Darrin and his group have a tendency of getting themselves in trouble. Thankfully, they are also capable of getting themselves out of whatever they find themselves in. Currently, they are in bad blood with a certain growing warlord named Hacklaw, a very large stoat from the southeast lands who is finding his way northwards into Mossflower. Darrin just so happened to steal some items that belonged to the stoat, which may or may not have turned out to be very valuable to him, and some of his gang insulted the warlord in a drunken slurr. They aren't around anymore.
He decided it was best if they don't stick around, and are going as fast as they can to get as far away as they can from Hacklaw.
At Redwall, it has been christened the first day of spring, and they are celebrating with a grand feast. Abbot Gerard is overseeing the preparations with the Abbey Warrior. The otters are away, so the abbey seems somewhat empty, but it is lively, and there is little worry for travellers as it has been a time of peace. However, if the unfortunate Darrin should want to join the feast, it might put a strange new life to the land. Was it mentioned that Darrin is a ferret?
Hallo. I'm going to try, once again, to get a decent RP going. This one I am going to try to keep smaller, so first come, first served with the sign-ups.
There are positions open to play:
-Abbey Warrior
-Hacklaw (I will take this character if no one else does)
-One to two vermin from Darrin's group
And of course, you can make characters for yourselves. Limit of three. NPCs are controllable by anyone. "Good" vermin are allowed, but I don't want it to be common.
I have a basic plot idea, which can be expanded upon. Basically, Darrin shows up, with Hacklaw on his tail. After a short siege, Darrin decides to leave Redwall, but unknown to him, one of his gang takes something. They might get chased after while Hacklaw stays and holds siege. Maybe they'll come back to help. We'll see. ;)

Weapons: A simple, single-handed sword sheathed at his waist, a long dagger on his right, and a small knife in a pouch in his pack.
Appearance: Darrin is a well-built ferret, not incredibly strong or tall, but definitely holding an air around him that he isn't one to be messed with without consequences. He has the mottled black-tan fur common of ferrets, though his mask-fur is rather faded compared to others'. He wears a brown, long-sleeved tunic, a pair of black pantaloons, and a darker brown cloak that reaches down above his ankles, which is connected at the neck by an iron brooch.
Personality: While he doesn't have the coolest head around, Darrin still has enough wits to use his brain to get out of situations without becoming too flustered. That said, if something really goes against him, he is no stranger to shouting and arguing. Even though he is a vermin (has been all his life, too, heh!), vulgarity doesn't sit well with him, and he tries to have a semblance of politeness. He doesn't mind helping others, though his reasoning is that if he helps them, then they should help him, and that he shouldn't go out of his way for kindness because, really, how can he help others if he can't help himself first?
History: Darrin grew up in Southsward with an abusive drunk for a father; his mother died giving birth to him. He ran away when he was seven and never looked back, taking his dagger with him. He was discovered by an old rat, who he travelled with for years. Eventually, they took on some other vermin, and developed a decent group, meandering around the countries, never staying in one place for long. After a while, the old rat passed his leadership on to Darrin, and he has been leading since. They had a run-in with Hacklaw, and caught a deserter for him, but after being a little too lenient with his sleight-of-paw skills, he left in a hurry.

Name: Hacklaw LeBrawn
Species: Stoat
Age (approximate): Thirty-five seasons, thirty-two days, eleven hours, forty-seven minutes, and thirty seconds. :P
Gender: Male
Weapons: Hacklaw true to his name is well armed with a large double pawed halberd affectionately named FoeCleaver, a weapon he uses with great skill in battle. However the stoat also carries a sword that he keeps at his hip at all times along with a knife kept hidden in his boot for when the heavy halberd is unavailable or impractical.
Appearance: Large, muscular, and tall Hacklaw is a sublime stoat specimen. His fur is a rich chocolate brown, laced with creamy tan markings down his chest and throat. His paws and tail tip is are a deep black closely matching his large intelligent eyes. Hacklaw wears the barbaric regalia of most vermin leaders, though his is well crafted and in finer shape.
Crisscrossed on his face and body are mismatched scars and tribal tattoos that together recount the story of his past victories. These are dyed a dark red resembling fresh, bloody wounds. Hacklaw's short round ears are also decorated with tiny earrings made from silver and bronze. On his footpaws are massive rough boots that have seen many miles and serve the up-and-coming warlord well. They also happen to have iron spikes on the toe and heel, dangerous tools that the stoat uses with great abandon in battle.
Personality: Loud and boasting Hacklaw lives up well to his title of warlord. There are few that speak boldly to him, and fewer still that dare even insult him out of earshot. For it is well known that Hacklaw LeBrawn holds a grudge!
Bold and aggressive LeBrawn doesn't back down from a fight, unless he knows he can't possibly win, but there aren't many of that kind. Because of his lack of challengers he often resorts to basic bullying to find his fun, which is when he isn't bragging about his accomplishments. Yet for all of his big words and confidence Hacklaw is a rather shrewd creature, clever, and quick witted. Still he believes that victory is won on the edge of a sword rather than in the strategy tent.
History: Hacklaw was born to a sickly mother with no father to speak of, in a tribe of stoats living in Southeastern Mossflower. It was easily seen from an early age that he was larger, faster, smarter, and more ambitious than the rest of his tribe. So when he came of age Hacklaw left his home, gathering to him all those vermin who sought a strong leader to follow unto plunder and glory. As his name became renown in the Southeast LeBrawn, (as creatures began calling him) started defeating more rival warlords in single combat, slaughtering the disloyal of their forces, and bringing those he could into his small but growing army. Soon most of the warring tribes of the local lands, and practically all of the bands and mercenaries did their business in his name. However it turned out that Hacklaw was too trusting, and he allowed a small band of mercenaries to steal right from under his nose.
Furious for being shown up Hacklaw gathered his best warriors of the Southeast, determined to pursue Darrin to the ends of the earth, pressing north, deeper still into Mossflower.
Other: Hacklaw has at his command many warriors of all vermin species. However only three hundred march with him now on his hunt for Darrin, while the rest approach at a slower pace from the Southeast, under his son's command.
Nicki Blupaw
Name: Nicki Blupaw (Blu)
Species Hedgehog
Age: Young Adult
Gender Female
Weapons She carries none at Redwall, however she is a capable rapier fencer.
Appearance: Nicki is a cheerful looking young hedgehog of medium height and squinty blue eyes. She has distinct rust colored fur with the sharp spikes of her species. Her fur his wild and uncombed and her face is always split in a roughish grin that signifies her free spirit. Blu, as she is often called, dresses in a humble green habit of a Redwall novice, though it has seen many rough seasons and is well patched, and around her forehead is a red bandanna. While Nicki usually goes bare pawed she sometimes wears woven sandals, but she can always be seen in her favorite hat, an old brown bucket hat that her father had gifted to her many seasons before.
Personality: Talkative and jolly Nicki always has a kind word (friendly insult) for everybeast. She's a fisher and student, and spends most of her time either competing with the Abbey otters on the pond, hooking all manner of fish with competence, or studying maps and old books. Nicki's an adventurous soul and dreams of wandering the world someday; she has already seen much of the local Mossflower with her adopted family. While adventure runs through her veins, so does an argumentative spirit that is usually only attributed to shrews. Nicki has a fiery temper when aroused, and is as good at spike tussling, wrestling, and arguing as any Blupaw should be.
History: Born into the Blupaw Clan Nicki spent her early life on the river moss, rafting the waterways as hedgehog families tend to do. Her life seemed to be set for the easy existence of floating hog when tragedy struck the clan. During a terrible storm many of the clans' members, including Nicki's parents drowned in the current when their raft shattered on some rocks. Niciki was saved from a watery grave by the Guosim who then took it upon themselves to raise her in light of her family's untimely demise. She learned the shrew's ways joining the tribe as an official Guosim member, however as she grew older Nicki wished for higher education and of her own accord went to Redwall to learn to read, write, and specifically draw, so she could make maps. She is still there, working hard to become a cartographer and adventurer.
Other: Nicki owns her own rapier and logboat paddle, both of which are safely kept under her dormitory bed.
I was thinking they stole some high-class wine, precious stones/metals, and maybe some good weapons. Couldn't steal anything they couldn't bring with them.
Name: Twisty (nicknamed that because his left forepaw is twisted and useless).
Species: Rat
Age (approximate): Adult; somewhere in his early thirties.
Gender: Male
Weapons: Two plain daggers he keeps in his jacket.
Appearance: Twisty, as lots of rats do, has a long tail, a crooked snout, and large yellow incisors. His fur is brown and dirty, and he has flighty gray eyes that tend to become more noticeable in the dark.
Having had to earn his namesake somehow, he was born with his left paw twisted in at an odd angle and cannot use it. He wears a single glove to keep it hidden, and on top of that a long red and brown overcoat.
Personality: Twisty is a typical vermin; dishonest, deceitful, and not afraid to kill. He's greedy as well, and it's reflected in his clothing choice (which he stole). Though egotistical, Twisty is a rat who as soon as he thinks he's about to lose will say anything to save himself.
He is actually very lazy and would rather sit about and wait for others to do his work, and he tries to avoid physical fights unless the enemy is already losing. He's insecure about his paw (as it impairs him) but plays it off like nothing matters.
History: Twisty was born to two young rats under the name of Grayeye. As soon as he was old enough to leave he was off, working with his two twin sisters to plunder and steal and make a name for himself around Mossflower.
It didn't work, however, as they both were killed on separate occasions and he was alone for multiple seasons.
He eventually joined up with Darrin and nothing has changed since.
Other: If he could be the one that eventually steals from Redwall, that would be great.

Appearance: His fur is a rough shade of blue (due to many of his odd ancestors). Both his eyes are bright blue, and his smile keen and white. He has many scars along his face and arms, as well as a missing tail. Wears a worn out blue tunic and cape (torn up mostly from his "adventures"). Also has a back and side quiver for more arrow usage as well as an extra pocket to store whatever he needs. Oh, and he wears a raccoon hat for a reason he never shares.
Personality (optional*): Quite mixed. Usually he is happy go jolly, but can turn very serious on issues he simply overhears. His many travels have made him unpredictable as he has had to fit into many different roles to get by. Best to simply reply and move on with Marshall.
History (optional): Born in the Highlands to a waring clan. He was forced out at the ripe age of 8, where he met up with a small band of creatures who taught him the ways of a bow and exe. At 15 his group was killed off and he was once again on his own. From this, he took upon him a very vermin like lifestyle even though he never felt himself as one. This is a factor in his random personality. But throughout the years Marshall soon shaped himself into a young fox who could handle himself in most situations; many of those jumping in and out of vermin bands and what not. Soon enough he found himself mixed up with Darrin and his struggles of being chased, and saw it fun and something else to keep him busy. But as of now, Marshall doesn't know if he will keep with Darrin or not. He honestly has felt close to the group and not just a couple creatures to leech onto.

Name: Raleigh (ral-ay) Loblewm (low-bloom)
Species: Squirrel
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Weapons: N/A
Appearance: Her fur is primarily golden hazel, with a beige underbelly, and two rose-tinted, sienna stripe-like marks starting at the back tips of her pointed ears and flowing over her shoulders, down her back until they cross at the tail before going down the sides of her legs. The tail has the same sienna tint, though it flares out from the root, and is more prevalent on the underside. Her eyes are motley pools of mixed sapphire, royal, and azure blues. She's a bit taller than most other squirrels, and has a slightly fluffier tail. She wears a habit, as is customary, with a dark pine shade; this habit isn't quite as bulky, and was trimmed more closely for her specifically. Instead of a cord, Raleigh uses a short, thin, darker taupe sash.
Personality: Typically joyful and uplifting, she's got smiles to go around, is quite bubbly, and possess a contagious laugh. Patient and understanding, except with herself with whom she is very strict. She loves to spread happiness in whatever form it might take, but does not lack an inkling of mischief. She spends a solid portion of time around the dibbuns, and is well versed in being firm with them while still being her same uplifting self. She is also easily embarrassed, and quick to apologize for even trivial matters.
History: She's a born and bread Redwaller, with both parents still present, and a brother who has since moved out to explore the world. She was always the level-headed child growing up, trying furiously to keep the other dibbuns out of trouble... unless it was her idea (the Cellar Hog won't let her forget about the Strawberry Fizz that got lost in the pond). She was also strangely smart for her age. Raleigh continued on to become one of the infirmary sisters. She has significant knowledge of the anatomy of almost all beasts, and is respected for her steadiness of hand and peace of mind. She's also the go to when a dibbun needs to be brought to the infirmary, which keeps her in very good shape, and is the majority of the reason behind her unique habit... well, after comfort that is. The otters have always been her best friends, always willing to get a little rough or dirty if it meant having a good time. Skipper had always been her favorite even if he was noticeably older than herself, she didn't care. He told her of the Long Patrol often, and eventually taught her their hand-to-hand arts. This practice intrigued the squirrel, and she scrapped with Skipper on a number of occasions while they conversed. She loves Redwall dearly, but also can't help but be a little jealous of her brother who she imagines experiencing quite a lot of excitement.
Other: Raleigh has a very rich, sweet voice, and loves to sing, but is extremely shy to do so around strangers. Her specialty in the infirmary is physical injury and tending/fixing wounds, but more recently she's been learning herbal treatments and how to recognize and cure illness. She has trouble sleeping at times, often climbing to a high place in the dead of night to observe the moon and clouds. Despite being surrounding by those she would call her friends, she finds herself feeling lonely, especially when the otters are away (this adds to her sleep issues).

Elijah was one of four survivors who tried to make it to Redwall before the Otterchief of the rival clan caught up to them. After losing two of his friends, Elijah and his last companion made it to the Abbey. Not wishing to subject Redwall to the otterclans' wrath, the two survivors left as quickly as they came, only stopping for supplies. After a week on the run, constantly looking over their shoulders and sleeping with one eye open, their fatigue caught up to them. Surrounded by the rival clan, Elijah's companion challenged the otterchief to single combat for leadership of the clan. The otterchief won, slaying Elijah's companion, but giving Elijah enough time to stab the otterchief in the back. Elijah led the clan north and told them never to come south again, or he would kill them all, before disappearing. He returned to Redwall several days later, and after showing his prowess in a fight against several particularly brave (or foolish) vermin that tried to break into the Abbey, Elijah earned his position as Abbey Warrior (partially due to the lack of any other candidates), a position he has cherished ever since.

I'd appreciate another character to bounce off of with Hacklaw, but once everyone gets inside the main abbey building I'll have Nicki to RP with, so that I'm not entirely out of the role play. Its just slow moving until then.

Name: Rallowan, the Weaponmaster.
Species: Fox
Age: Somewhere in his thirties.
Gender: Male
Weapons: What he carries with him are a bow, sword, knives of various design and use, mace, and a sling. He will use any other weapon he might find.
Appearance: Rallowan is a tall, strong fox, with the regular fiery fur of his species, though his ears and tail are nearly black, much like his legs and arms. He wears a riveted mail coif and tunic which reaces to his mid-thigh overtop a green tunic and brown pantaloons. The fox also has a conical helmet which has a long piece of metal which extends over his snout to protect it. His attire is held up by a braided belt.
Personality: The Weaponmaster is extremely competitive, and will not be outdone, except by those he respects or finds useful, like Hacklaw.He is not the most talkative type, and prefers to evaluate those he is around rather than associate with them, and his constant search of opponents has left him disconnected from a normal life.
History: N/A
Other: Rallowan is always ready for a fight to test his skills and challenge himself, using weapons one might not expect in some fights. This is because he always wants to "earn" the title of Weaponmaster, going to great lengths to be proficient with every weapon he wields, from throwing spears and fencing rapiers to sparring with bare fists and bludgeoning foes with crude clubs.

Personality (optional*): Cheerful, although down-to-earth. Patient, and the slightest bit sarcastic. A definite stickler for the rules.

Rowan's thoughts on the matter are (most likely) different than Corn's herself.
No no no, that's a good thing! I loved the post, it felt real, had reasoning and character, and contained good detail. It gave good insight into Rowan as a character and how she feels about her position and those around her. Again, I loved the post, I just said something because it was quite heated (which is not a bad thing).
Also apologies, it might take me longer than expected to respond to that last post, caught me way off guard and there are a couple more complications this week regarding posting and stuff.

No, lol, she was just trying to keep him from jerking around anymore. Also, I'm probably going to wait for the rest of the RP to catch up, we got really far ahead in the infirmary, and the operation will take about 2-3 hours RP time at least. I also plan on making that entire surgery in one post, so that would put an even greater distance between the two situations.
@Cornflower MM I'd honestly be interested to find out what the heck Rowan is doing now, and especially what she's thinking. Though I understand if you can't find inspiration or anything, just thought I'd throw an idea out. ;)

So, I'm planning on Darrin leaving in a day or so with his group, and some Redwallers will follow because Twisty stole something. Then they can come across some Long Patrol (who will be a big help against Hacklaw). Then. . . we'll figure it out from there.
Post operation, Twisty's going to be feeling the after effects of having his hand fixed for quite some time. Leaving wouldn't be impossible, I'm going to try to have the whole wrist taken care of in one long post, but I just wanted to throw that out there as a complication... One other thing, would the Redwaller's really chase the vermin for a possession? Martin's sword would be by Elijah's side at all times, and the tapestry is of no value to this particular band. More likely it would be a kidnapping, but that seems a bit off the way things have gone, though with Twisty it wouldn't be completely infeasible if he stole my character :D Still, can't quite see how that would work with the group dynamic. Though it'd be interesting... Okay, now I kind of want to try that, but I still can't figure out how that would work...

He would be able to steal Martin's Sword. Elijah probably doesn't sleep with the thing in his bed with him, and as for Twisty's wrist/paw area...he's used one paw his entire life. Not gonna impact him very much.
It would only have to be a couple Redwallers. And the convenient thing is that I control Elijah.
I'm just trying to avoid a metagaming scenario because Elijah's personality doesn't leave him very open to having something stolen from him. For instance, I would guess that he locks his room at night because I don't see him to be very trusting, especially with vermin around.
Heck, isn't the sword displayed somewhere in the Abbey in some of the books?
It isn't constantly with the Warrior.
Perhaps he tries to make a statement in saying they will not attack the vermin first, by hanging up Martin's sword (and no, he would not be unarmed, as I'm sure the dude has other weapons).
This meeting could be when Twisty first lays eyes on it.
My thought is that he won't need to sword if they're fighting at range.
I didn't make the character, but it seems to me Elijah may be more comfortable with an otter javelin than a sword, and would use that.

Alright, that solves a couple of issues, but how do y'all plan on leaving the Abbey undetected by both the Redwallers and the Vermin army? The Redwallers probably won't be too hard to get past from the inside, but the vermin army is likely to set up a perimeter around the Abbey rather soon, and maintain it for the duration of the siege. That also raises an interesting question about what Hacklaw's going to do, and how two different groups (the Redwall band and Hacklaw's gang) would chase after Darrin's without running into each other? I like the idea's going around and all, I'm just trying to figure out the logistics while things are relatively calm.
That's just it; they won't be undetected. Rallowan will find them and go after them, possibly with down other vermin.
So what else needs to happen today (RP day)? Nobody is interacting right now, and I can't see any significant progression for at least a couple of hours. Twisty should be out until about early afternoon. Other questions being what is Darrin doing/thinking right now, and what's Hacklaw up to?

@Cornflower MM could have Rowan interact with Darrin. Hacklaw isn't going to do anything until the morning other than post guards around the abbey.

I can't help but point out that this is a rather cheap use of the, "oblivious innocents," tactic. Especially seeing as pretty much all woodlanders remotely close to Redwall take residence there. I would also add that it's a tad unnecessary, the story is shifting away from the Abbey soon, is it not?

In other words, I would rather wait a few months to continue rather than try to force the story.

But seriously, guys. It's basically the four of us in this RP. Sandpaw is but he's not in this discussion and, therefore, does not count (to me). It's not like you aren't in other RPs. Totally not. And you two totally don't have a duel together, nope. Absolutely the end of the world if we let this one rest for a few weeks. You just gotta push, and push, and push to play with this one no matter how enjoyable (or not) it is for other people. That's the way I'm starting to see it. (Also one reason I left the RP community in the first place, fun fact)

I know the feeling man, more than half of my RP's never even make it off the ground, much less reach completion. The thing is, all of us want to see the RP to the end right? I know this includes Corn, but she's got something that she needs to take care of right now (just like I had school bogging me down before I managed to pace myself, and get my writing brain back). Would you honestly rather continue 3/4ths of an RP over waiting for it to be whole? All of our current plot revolves around the Redwall/Darrin's group characters, the vermin horde is just a catalyst for the rest of the story right now. This means that Rowan has ties with every story relevant character, and is firmly embedded in the outcome whether we RP about it or not. Losing that aspect will kill all of the planning up to this point, and the rest of us would try to make up the difference, fail at it (because it's entirely impossible), and get discouraged to the point of quitting. I'd rather risk ending over waiting to continue a good story than get frustrated over a weak story and leave.
I get it, it's frustrating, I've waited longer than any of y'all to finish an RP (A Winter to Freeze Your Heart was one of the saddest things that's happened in my time as an RP'er), but trust me when I say it isn't worth finishing if it feels like work.

Um, just because it's not enjoyable at the moment doesn't mean it wasn't before. Therefore, I care about the RP and I do want to see it to completion. And it could very well become enjoyable again, and I really, really hope it does. Partly why I'm taking some time away. Just because the fun has faded from the RP doesn't mean I don't care about it and
want it to be fun. There's been a few where it's not fun anymore and I'm like "Nope bye-bye" but those were mostly ones without a really cool plot and interesting planning going on. So, the opposite of this one. I want this RP to carry on to the ending and I do want to be a part of it but I can't right now. And also Dan has talked sense into and made me realize, duh, Rowan really can't just fade into the background.

I was thinking more of revitalizing it.
It seems I really had to push to keep it going previously, and that means there wasn't much going on to incite people to post. However, my creative juices have not been flowing recently.
I think the RP itself was in a fantastic place, pretty sure the issues that slowed us all down were more individual/personal ones than with anyone's involvement (or lack there of). We should be able to continue from where we were at, and rather soon I'd speculate..... And by rather soon, I don't mean a month from now :P

Yeah, all we were waiting for was an altercation or other action from Corn's character so we could keep the desired direction of the RP going. I think we tried pushing past that for a couple of posts, but realized we were missing a key element. Quite frankly, this has been the most fun I've had with RP's since AWTFYH, the only challenger being Phlame from Foreign Intrusion (another one I miss dearly, I had a lot of goals with that character).
I liked that one too. . .
Anyhow. I had an idea that I threw past Corn some time ago, but I don't remember exactly what it was. I think Rowan is supposed to notice them exiting Redwall, and make the warrior (Elijah?) aware immediately.
I was half expecting that the idea was that Rowan witnessed what happened, but saw Raleigh and didn't say anything at first. Proceeding to struggle with whether or not she should say something for an undetermined amount of time before eventually being overcome by the guilt.
Would you want Hacklaw to leave off his dispute with Redwall once he finds out Darrin left?
I was thinking he would attempt a full assault on the Abbey which results in the majority of his army being slain or routed, before he discovers Darrin flew the roost. So he gives up his conflict against Redwall and continues to pursue Darrin with a greatly depleted force.
Not a bad idea, but there's the issue of the captives. Why would Hacklaw rush in haphazardly when he has that advantage?
That could work. At the same time I was thinking that he would again demand for Darrin, only for them to tell him he is gone. Hacklaw probably wouldn't believe them, and still stay there. He could send Rallowan to see if he can track them.
@danflorreguba Well the hostages would only work if the Redwallers had someone to trade. Eventually the hostages would run out, and the Redwallers would just be forced to watch not being able to do anything about it, at which point Hacklaw would have to take a more decisive approach.

Is there anything else our group has to complete before the skip? I know we need to let the altercation in the Abbey take place so that we know what Rowan, Elijah, and the rest of the Redwallers are going to do, but I'm not aware of any criteria that Darrin's group has to meet.

Perhaps NPC was too much of a label. Get an unnnamed group of Redwallers that respond to orders, give one or two a name and a line if needed. Not "hello i am Cellarhog Jervil I am going to be a definite character." Yknow, like we did for the old RPs. Remember Forbidden Truce?

Um. . . Basically, Elijah and Rowan are going after Darrin, Twisty, Raleigh, and co. We'll do a time skip when they're off.
Have been brainstorming on a good way to get us out of the corner we were painted in without taking forever.
It makes sense to bring more characters on with them, but didn't single or pairs of characters in the books go out by themselves? Samkin and Arula in Salamandastron, Matthias in Redwall, the three or four youngsters in Loamhedge. . . Perhaps just one more person to go along?
Just bring like, five or six NPC's so you have some extra heads. You don't really need to play them as long as you play like they exist.
EDIT: Skaaaarz, plz, skip the time like a pebble.... Not too far, but enough to make a difference :P

So what's the current plan for the vermin squad? I'm assuming we'll be running for a couple of days before anything major happens so that we have time to build the characters, but I don't see a current direction. Where's the contention? That's what Rallowan did, but he decided against informing Hacklaw about this. And Hacklaw is still somewhat convinced the Redwallers are hiding Darrin and trying to buy time. Presumably to sneak him out the back, which is why he put troops to guard the other exits, just in case.

I certainly can. I made sure to state that Hacklaw was waiting outside Redwall until early evening before he was informed of Rallowan's departure.

My original plan was to have both Rallowan's and Elijah's groups catch up to Darrin, and it would be a fantastic mess. But then you threw Hacklaw into the mix, and now I'm thinking he'll end up just barely missing them.
I am well and truly stuck now. There is nothing that Rowan can do other than character building (which is fine and great but not great timing) and useless-to-the -plot mindless activities.
I'm at a loss what to do there. I may have made a mistake skipping forward so much, but at the same time there isn't a whole lot to do other than character building until the groups meet.
I do need to post, though.
Might I make a suggestion?
Suggest away.
Suppose we skip to a few hours later when everyone has been on the move again, and its getting towards early evening and its getting dark again. Then Rallowan and his squad bump into Elijah, Rowan, and the Redwallers and the begin to fight, the Redwallers being outnumbered start to lose, and the NPC extras die.
Imagine the scene. Its tense, shadows growing and all hope lost; Rallowan and his gang bearing down on a surrounded Elijah and Rowan, the otter warrior prepared to sell his life dearly to protect his young companion when, BOOM! The cavalry arrives with Hacklaw and his score. The fighting is fierce, Hacklaw cleaving his way through the deserters in an attempt to get at Rallowan. The fox runs, or fights, or gets away, or dies, I don't know that's up to you.
In the end most of the vermin are dead, Hacklaw has fewer then five of his own warriors left standing fit to fight, and the deserters are all dead or scattered. Hacklaw talks with Elijah, learns he's pursuing Darrin as well. Knowing he no longer has the troops to take Darrin alone, and having seen and been impressed by Elijah's prowess on the battlefield Hacklaw offers a momentary truce, a unsteady alliance between vermin and woodlander in the hopes of tracking down Darrin and each of them serving their individual justice.

Hm. Well, I'd like to still implement a plan that Corn and I came up with. Elijah will eventually die, and I was thinking Rowan could take up the mantle of Warrioress, given some personal growth. (Not that that means she'll be able to defeat the horde single-pawed.) My original plan was for Rallowan to kill him, seeing him as a worthy quarry.

See, this is why, when I don't have ideas, I just need to start writing it out and the ideas will come.
So, Rallowan catches up with the Redwallers. They fight, being overwhelmed, just as Hacklaw attacks the other vermin. Rowan, being of good character, is willing to stand up to Hacklaw. Between her and Elijah he offers the truth. Rallowan, however, gets away, and terrorizes them by himself, eventually fighting Elijah, then Hacklaw. No, I don't plan on having him KILL Hacklaw. But since the fox wouldn't see Rowan as a threat or worth his skill, he allows her the chance to kill him to save others.
How does that sound?
I was thinking that instead of some Deus ex machina Hacklaw has enough respect for Elijah or Rowan that he leaves their home in peace, but that's a long way off and a lot can happen in between now and then.

I just can't wait to see where it goes, also trying to figure out how I'm going to push things in response... There are so many different plot possibilities it hurts me to think of how many I'll have to pass up.

I'm also really curious about these spring time apples... Anyway, in no particular order:1.) Raleigh continues to have a downward spiral in her depressive state, leading to heavier energy drain and, more importantly, inhibiting (in part) her abilities to perform her surgical skills. (Not a fan of this direction, fewer options) 2.) Raleigh hardens up, shedding some of her pleasant nature in an attempt to survive and perform in her new circumstances. Problem is she knows exactly what's happening, and hates every second of it as she does not want to change who she is. 3.) Raleigh fights through despair, trying to make the most of what's happening while retaining as much of herself as she can. :).
- Mind you, these are only the short term ideas, not as important -
One of the progressive plot lines I was thinking through was if she toughens up a little, but doesn't necessarily harden her heart. As a result, she's able to start regaining her strength while actually starting to learn about the vermin. A pseudo-acceptance befalls her and she thinks less of escape and more of how to better her current situation while working on her captors injuries (somehow, I'm gonna have to pull some ideas out of thin air as to how she's going to do any medical work with no available supplies). This short-term path can lead to a lot of end-plot ideas. One of which involving Raleigh obtaining a serious hand injury (thus requiring Rowan's help, and possibly leading to the revelation of some of Raleigh's secret history in terms of medicine ;))
One that I've been playing with as of like, two hours ago, would follow the increasing depressive state, resulting in a psychotic break at one of the confrontations (Redwallers or Vermin show up/ the actions involved). Not to spoil too much, but when you have a fast, crazy squirrel with hand-to-hand capabilities comparable to that of a Long Patrol Hare and total knowledge and understanding of physiology... Long story short, things get ugly.... and really bloody.
Ultimately, a lot of the decision making revolves around whether I/we want to break Raleigh's character (personality) or not. After that, the options are still plentiful either way.
(A lot of this came out very poorly, so take it all with a grain of salt)
That was more than I was expecting.
Keep in mind that we have plans as well, and I didn't mean for this RP to get hugely complicated. Sand plans on having the big confrontation with Rallowan's group, then later on with Darrin and Elijah and the others. I would like Rowan to eventually take over as Warrior.
Hence why I plan around goals for specifically my character, and why I entertain so many... Especially when not a lot of the end game is public knowledge.
Twisty's goals are pretty clearly publicly-known, so I don't need to even bother stating them. ;D
That said, depending on how things unravel, he can either go down a dark road, or a lighter one. Of course, that can be said for any of these characters, but... you catch my drift.
Hey, Dan. Maybe another idea is for Twisty to run off with Raleigh away from Darrin's group, and it gets heated between them. Then she has to try to find a way to get away from him, and runs into one of the other groups, be it Darrin, Elijah, or Rallowan or Hacklaw, even.
Well, if nothing else, this idea certainly intrigues me. However, I will say that I'm enjoying the group dichotomy with Raleigh in the midst of the vermin horde. Problem is there are now only two player characters within the horde to bounce any interactions with meaning off of. I know at one point I really wanted to have her attempt escaping, only to lack the stamina to make it far enough away before she plummets from a tree... At which point she sustains an injury? I hadn't thought of that before... I'd also entertained the idea that her sleep issues came into play one night, at which point one of the other vermin is awoken and "xyz" happens resulting in "zyx.".... New thought, if Hacklaw (or even Rallowan for that matter) got their dirty paws on Raleigh, they would have a bargaining chip for both the Redwallers and (as a result of Twisty's loud mouth and lack of foresight) on Darrin's group via Twisty. Granted, this idea gets rather shallow considering that Darrin wouldn't think twice about just leaving, taking advantage of the ensuing chaos to make his getaway... Hello headache my old friend. -_-
Just putting out there that Twisty can be caught by Hacklaw at some point further down the line. Probably with the intention to kill him, but he begs to be spared (and... gets his wish, in turn for spying on Darrin, or helping them find him. Or sommat.)
This could even happen if Raleigh got caught because you darn well know he'd be after her. But it doesn't have to. At all. I'm spitballing.
Spitballing is good, and that's certainly a functional idea. There are so many at this point, I can't figure out which one interests me the most. XD
EDIT: On a side note, I'm not sure how I feel about Rowan adopting the Abbey Warrior role. I don't want to step on other people's ideas, but her character doesn't match up with that of the warrior. She's temperamental, assumptive, and still has some significant mid-RP growth to go through yet. Obviously it's not up to me, but I really feel like her character is much better suited for the role she currently fills, a lot less liability involved... And just to clarify, this has nothing to do with how any characters are being played, my assessment here is solely based off of how the character's are supposed to be presented.

@Cornflower MM would really have the final say on that. Personally, I liked the idea because it would have Rowan grow as a character, which is why I presented it to Corn.
I simply feel that there are significantly more thematic ways to grow her character than to pull her into that of a warrior.
I've been thinking about it myself, and while I'm not sure what will happen yet, I do know that her becoming the Abbey Warrior isn't going to be a permanent thing, if it happens at all. Like I said, I have no idea - Or rather way too many. :P

My thoughts were that Rowan seems to feel inadequate or something in the shadow of Raleigh's inherent skills at healing and being pretty and whatever, and she needed to find her own path. At least, that's the impression I got. I just like to see characters grow and change.

There's not a whole lot to do until they catch up with Darrin, but there is other stuff that is going to happen before that point.
I liked Sandpaw's idea with the fight between Rallowan and Hacklaw's forces, but
@LT Sandpaw hasn't been active, and I haven't gotten to the point of posting as Hacklaw. (One person having a large portion of the characters doesn't make for the best playtime for everyone else.) After that fight, the vermin forces would be shrunken, and, like Sand said, Hacklaw could team with Elijah and co. to find Darrin.

With all due respect, Skarzs, this is your RP. Where do you want to take it from here? The beginning of the ending? Want to wait a bit more and do other things first? A fight? Rowan and Elijah figuring out an attack plan? What do you think we need to do next?
First, I'd advise that we slow down for a second. I know I want to see this RP turn out well, and I'm pretty willing to bet that we all feel a bit stressed over some portion or other. It may be wise to simply discuss one aspect or problem at a time so we can all get our bearings.

I'm frustrated here. I'm drawn too thin controlling four out of seven played characters in this roleplay, and most of them have to be the decision makers. Not only that, but having Hacklaw and Rallowan interact is boring because it's only me dictating a bunch of words. Then I will have to do that between Hacklaw and Darrin, Hacklaw and Elijah, Elijah and Darrin. . . It's stupid. The idea I liked was Sand's idea, and he left it to me along with the major villain. Great. Groddil is gone, and now I have to control Elijah too. My ideas are dried up. I'm grasping at air here. You are all waiting for me to do something and I don't have the motivation to do it all. It's my fault, and I'm sorry, but if we want to continue, I need help. Maybe I'm being selfish. Maybe I'm just a complete imbecile who procrastinates and can't take responsibility. Probably wrong in thinking I need help.
What do I do? Skip completely over anything that happens between Hacklaw and Rallowan? Continue with Darrin in no particular direction? Force Elijah and the Redwallers after Darrin with a plan that's obviously not going to work and won't be enjoyable to play with? Suddenly change plans? I can't go back over what was already written. I've got nothing else.
From my past experiences with roleplaying, Skarzs, there's absolutely no fun in trying to stick so hard to a plan.
Yes, we're trying to write a story, but the "fun" aspect of it matters in the story being good (and in us wanting to continue it).
And you're right. You shouldn't have to control all of that, and I'd cut out half of it if I were you, replacing it with occasional posts showing the progress Hacklaw is making in tracking them.
Now, let's backtrack a little. Back to the "plan" thing.
Roleplays always tend to work out better when there's a loose goal for an ending, and everything else is character-driven. Posts don't need to be huge or extremely detailed or always cause some sort of "event" to move things along, as long as they provide something.
Just let the characters live and breathe and banter! Take things lightly! And don't call yourself an imbecile, 'cause you aren't!
So, what do I say?
-Step back a little. Let things flow. Loosen up and don't worry about the big picture. (And remember that. Don't worry. Don't worry. Don't worry.)
-Kill off or have some of the characters that are stressing you out go "MIA" (like Elijah, or whoever else. Does he have a role? Sure, but do we need him? Nah. Unless you actually have ideas for and WANT your extra characters around, get rid of them. Even if you're not comfortable with killing them *like if it's someone else's character and you'd be concerned in case they come back*, they can fall down a hole or something.)

I'd say it's been a pretty reasonable time since we last addressed this RP, kinda wondering where everyone's at 'cuz I'd really like to get this one rolling again if possible. So first off, Skarz, you have enough break time to get any ideas? I must admit, I'm a little short of them myself as far as the problems we've got (outside of ignoring characters that aren't in active play as I've already mentioned to you). I'd like to avoid burning anyone out if possible. Secondly, the Redwall group, seriously, we need to find something for y'all to do :D Finally, is Ashleg still around?

Just came up with an idea. Let me know what you guys think.
Rallowan's group will split; they're sick of going on a wild goose chase. Rallowan is all but left by himself. The vermin that head back will meet Hacklaw, who sends them, along with a good portion of his own group, back to Redwall. The size of the enemies will be much smaller then.
After that, the Redwall group has a few directions it could go: It meets Rallowan, and Elijah dies, while others escape, or maybe get captured to plan their escape later. It meets Darrin's group, and they try to talk it out before Rallowan or Hacklaw arrive and throw it all into chaos. Or even then, Twisty and Raleigh can be long gone by the time the Redwallers arrive, and go off after them. . .
Ah, that may work out best.
Elijah and co. find Darrin, but no Raleigh or sword. They go off. Rallowan finds Darrin at the same time as Hacklaw: chaos ensues. Darrin escapes, joining the Redwallers, safety in numbers sort of thing. Rallowan can terrorize Hacklaw, dwindling their numbers into a manageable size as he tracks Darrin. The Redwallers find Raleigh, Darrin wants to leave, and then. . . Something. That's the extent of my ideas.

Awesoooome, so what's the plan Skarz? I know you posted an idea a bit further up, but I don't think we ever really settled on something. Personal notes, if Twisty were to separate from the main group, Raleigh would be just as likely to bolt. Weird as it may sound, she feels, in some ways, safer with the larger number around then being alone with Twisty (mind you, in some ways, not all). Her goal is to decrease the chance of Twisty losing his paw or dying as a result of infection and further stress, once that's been done, she'll try to run on her own (one of the reasons she's been pushing to look at the paw properly again). Mind you, I'm still not entirely set on how she would react to this situation (she certainly wouldn't be willing on short notice, so Twisty'd have to be physical about it again), I'm just trying to see what the alternatives have to offer.
EDIT: Oh...... Well, I guess we're waiting for Ashleg now. :D Skarz, once Ashleg posts, wait for me to either post, or say something in the OOC:. Depending on how Twisty responds, I might do something, gonna have to wait and see though.
I'm gonna try to stick with the plan I said before. I get the feeling Twisty will have had enough at this point, and even if he can't force Raleigh along with him, he would probably chase her down.

Oh you're fine, I've been quiet in all my RPs because I was waiting for my name to be changed back from Kreg_ and it's recital week, I'm not really gonna be around much for a bit. So you guys can take as much time as you want (within reason lol).
