A church? A joke? A fact!
Check it out, there's a St. Ninians High School! Well, a few actually!
Here's the link:

Links to actual schools are far more believable than wikipedia.

Though I'm not really surprised its a parochial school.
Is anyone else wondering if Jacques went here or something?
No. He went to St. John's

OOT: You could put this in the summary of Brian.
BIT: He might have done this on purpose.
I think it may have been a coincidence. I feel like it was just a popular name for a church... Is there an actual person who was saint Ninian?
Not sure, but in one of the books they tell of the story of St. Ninians
Apparently there was a Saint Ninian. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Ninian)
Brian used a few Christian or Biblical names in Redwall; Methuselah, Matthias, even Asmodeus is a demon from the Catholic bible. I think Mr Jacques just liked the names. :)
Cool!
very cool
He certainly likes names that start with M doesn't he? ;)

It can be noted that all of these bibical names only are used in his earlier works.
Good point, I think as religious controversy spread, he made his books more appealing to all religions
Personally, I like the Biblical names better than later names. Like Uggo Wiltud. We go from Matthias to Uggo? Not cool.

I agree, the biblical names were just more medieval sounding
And better than names like... Uggo. :-X

Like Captian Tammo said, " I think as religious controversy spread, he made his books more appealing to all religions". Thats most likly the main reason why the name style changed. And I also think that Bibical names are better than the later ones. I mean... Uggo! Seriuously?
Gah, it wasn't biblical! When Jacques was asked he said that they were "Strong family names" apart from Asmodeus
Uggo is just one name out of hundreds. He had lots and lots of good names, biblical or not. I prefer it to not have names drawn from a religion, being a non-religious person. Yes, Uggo isn't a great name, but things like:
Tiria Wildlough, Baliss, Ungatt Trunn, Mokkan, Silth, Lantur, Badrang, and Laterose are all very good names. (Yes, I'm sorry, most of them are either forum members or Marlfoxes, I have both of those on the mind)
