Title: RIGGLE COMPETITION
Post by: Ferdy on April 01, 2014, 06:20:10 AM
HA! Dis topic has less than 50 pages, but I'm a dibbun an' I do what I like! So I say we're going to have a riggle competition. This game has no rules, just post riggles and we'll try to guess 'em.

I'm going first 'cause I'm the best.

What has a face and two hands but no arms or legs?

You look at the table then look away. You saw the table. You take the saw and cut the mirror in half. Two halves make a whole. You crawl in the hole and get out. ;)

Ok, I have one. (It's a bit tricky! ;) )

I am monstrous, green and tall
But am also the smallest of all.
I live inside and above the ground
Sometimes I'm the only one around.
I tower up to touch the sky,
But yet I sway with a single sigh.
Inside me I hold a mighty nation
Which to some brings pure elation,
But to others it brings fear
Which saddens me, for I hold it dear.
To know my size is no easy task,
it changes depending on who you ask.
If my riddle confuses you,
You should try changing your point of view.

Who am I?

Title: Re: RIGGLE COMPETITION
Post by: The Skarzs on April 02, 2014, 04:02:00 AM
The ocean is sometimes considered 'green' and some places very deep. Underneath the surface you might consider it 'tall', but is below ground level, and sometimes above. Out in the open water, it seems like that is all that is- the 'only one around', and touches the horizon- 'touch the sky'. Many creatures call it their home, a 'mighty nation'. Some people are afraid of water- 'it brings fear'. Some people have never see the ocean- 'depending on who you ask'.
Title: Re: RIGGLE COMPETITION
Post by: Kitsune on April 02, 2014, 05:07:04 AM
That was very, very close (not to the answer, but that your answer matches almost all of the clues). You didn't mention the line "But yet I sway at a single sigh". The sea's pulled by the moon, so it wouldn't fit.

You said sigh not wind if you were speaking figuratively then the moons pull on the tides could be interpreted as a sigh. I think we need to work to gather on this one. I don't know what it is but I have a feeling that if you look at it from a bugs point of view then it might make more sense...

What shines,
But is not gold?
Great things
Together it holds.

Though it is small
It is ever useful.
It has value to some,
And none to others.

It can pierce wood,
Cut through walls of stone,
Leave great dents upon metal,
And carve through bone.

It can be used to create,
It can be used to hold things together,
It is small, but yet great.
It so simple, and so common.

You have one, in your shed,
Maybe some,
Even hold together your bed?
Guess what it is,
Try your luck.
For I won't tell,
Not even for a buck.

A nail or a screw?

@Faiyloe:
I am monstrous, green and tall (to bugs)
But am also the smallest of all. (To us)
I live inside and above the ground (roots inside, stem above)
Sometimes I'm the only one around. (A field full of grass)
I tower up to touch the sky, (to bugs again)
But yet I sway with a single sigh. (The wind or an actual sigh)
Inside me I hold a mighty nation (bugs!)
Which to some brings pure elation, (some people love bugs)
But to others it brings fear (some people are afraid of bugs)
Which saddens me, for I hold it dear.
To know my size is no easy task,
it changes depending on who you ask. (Us or bugs)
If my riddle confuses you,
You should try changing your point of view.

Does this make sense now? ;)

The 'inside' part is the confusing bit. If you had said 'beneath', or 'among', or 'with', it might have made a tad more sense.

@Nor: that sounds like a nail.

Two snakes are we,
Passing through the green.
Through fields and valleys,
Our paths do pass.

Two snakes are we,
Slither next to each.
To take us is to travel far
And go where we take you.

Two snakes are we
Heading toward the sea.
One dry, one wet,
One blue, one black.

How about this one?

I bring joy and I bring hate,
I put rust apon your gate.
I am cruel and I am spiteful,
But I am also purely delightful.
Those that abuse me will feel my wrath
But those who are wise walk a much nicer path.
They treasure and charish me as I slowly glide by,
But the foolish and unwise; upon them I fly.
I can be kind, doing much good,
But I can destroy more than you think I could.
They say I can heal, that much is true,
But if I can help is all up to you.

Who am I?

Red color soaking deep.

What breaks the stone and the dirt,

What fears the water from touching it,

Correct! A doughnut hole can either be the center of a doughnut and have no taste because it isn't actually real, or can be a small doughnut ball made by Krispy Kreme that is supposed to be the missing part of a doughnut that tastes sweet and has sugar in it (the tiny crystals!).

Light

It doesn't exactly smother fire but it renders it irrelevant
Fire gives off light
A fire is better if it gives off more light
Light is a product of fire
Light is a practical use for a fire

The whole riddle was basically a play on words. Instead of light, I used fire. A lamp without a shade would be harsh to look at, so in that way a lampshade improves the light for indoor purposes.

What??

You said fifteen feet by five feet. I answered by using feet as an equivocal term and made them just feet, not the measurement but the body part. So she stacked the feet on top of each other and climbed out using them! ;D ;D
