I play, but only on single player.
I haven't played in a long time. But when I do play, it is usually on multiplayer, on a server called Pickaxis. It's got several game types, and I think it's pretty fun.
Yes, I revived this. Deal with it. Why? Because I've set up a little server, nothing fancy, for this forum. Basically, whenever the server is online, I'll edit this post to say so, like this:

Ooh, if you can, you should get the map from our old server back in the day. Last I checked, it wasn't up. Gonff probably has the map. Sadly, I never got around to downloading it. :-\ But we recreated the majority of the Redwall world. You name a location, it prolly existed in some form or another. We were even working on locations from Castaways for the heck of it.
Course that doesn't need to happen. Minecraft is plenty fun without all the Redwall stuff.
In any case, I'll prolly end up popping on at some point or another.
If it's creative sign me right up. If it's survival I'm not too interested but I might pop in from time to time.

Perhaps I could fire up my minecraft to do a little collaborative building. I really don't have the time for survival though, I'd be like Jett, maybe popping on once a week.

Does anyone know how to improve performance on 1.9? I've changed settings and attempted to allocate more RAM, but so far this has had no noticeable effect.

Turn off Mimap in the settings. That helped a lot for me.
Mipmap causes lag (it smooths textures at a distance,) VSync causes lag (it prevents screen tearing if you're running over 60fps, but if you're not, it just lags you.) Render distance, smooth lighting, and fancy graphics all obviously increase lag. I'm not really sure what Advanced OpenGL and Anisotropic Filtering do, but they both cause lag. Clouds and high brightness both cause a little bit of lag as well, but that's not usually significant.

That's the old, official Redwall server, by the company that's working on a Redwall game. Hardly anyone goes on anymore, but the Abbey is ultra detailed. (Also, built human-sized)

I really like the one I frequent. I really haven't been able to find one like it; it's wonderful. However, people there have been treating me like garbage recently and I just don't feel like I'm having any fun there anymore. And that's why I play, to have fun. I realize it's just a game, but many people take it way too seriously. :-\

On another note, I'm considering starting my own crew/faction/guild on my regular server. I've already tried this before, and it wasn't successful, but I didn't have enough resources or organization, which I now have. Anyway, I don't know what to name it or what theme it should have. I don't want to lead a pirate crew. Elves and several real life nations are taken. I tried to start a Dragon themed crew in the past, so I don't want to do that again, as I'd rather have a fresh start.
Here's what I'd like:
-A self-sufficient, more reclusive group (until we become stronger)
-A group with political organization of some sort, like a monarchy or republic
-A group that utilizes all forms of Minecraft technologies (minecarts, redstone, etc.), but a futuristic or technologically-themed crew wouldn't fit well on a pirate-aged server.
-A group with a certain level of fantasy would be nice. I could incorporate RP and holidays to boost morale.
-An honorable, respected group
-An original group on the server
So, I guess why I'm posting is to ask if you had any suggestions for a name/theme. Anything helps!

One idea that comes to mind is a merchant guild. You could establish a self-sufficient base (preferably on an island or similarly isolated location) and conduct trade with other factions from there. The faction would be led by a "viceroy" or similar figure, with a command structure containing everything from soldiers to indentured servants. Since you would be an isolated, non-confrontational group, the chance of conflict with other factions would be minimal. And if your server has a marketplace, you could make dominating that the primary goal of your faction.
Yeah, like a trade federation. Driving politics by staying neutral and controlling the market. It'd be like Switzerland.
That was one of the ideas I have been toying around. Regardless of what my crew may become, I want it to be involved in trade.
It's just that a "Kingdom" seems like a stronger presence (maybe just to those who don't know any better, but still). I wouldn't call myself a kingdom or an empire unless I had the numbers and land.
A Principality perhaps?

I'm more concerned about a theme though. :P Right now, I'm considering either reviving the Dragon-themed crew or creating my own generic kingdom, unless there's some other theme I haven't thought of.
When you say dragon theme, do you mean our building designs or something else...?
Well, there would be lore and such. "There were dragons long ago and now there are not" or whatever. The bases would all be floating islands, and there would be traditional roles that people could hold that represented ancient dragons. Something like that.
Hmm, an interesting idea, I can't really think of anything better. I mean I could throw some ideas out if you want.

See, I'd really like a theme, but themes can be so limiting. If I didn't have a theme, I could have a majestic floating city as well as a canal city like Venice. You know what.... that sounds like a good idea. :P
I think I'll revive something I started before, known as the Avari - the wild Elves in Tolkien's lore. The name was solely to represent the separation from the Elven Empire after the revolution, it was not a roleplay crew and didn't have a theme as it's main focus was to help players have the safety and freedom to play Minecraft (on that server) as they wished. With a theme, players have to conform to it and creativity is limited, I've found. Also, the thing about cities is also true. While having a vast kingdom of cities of the same theme is impressive (and must have taken a lot of work), it is very limiting as to what you can accomplish. You need all sorts of cities to be successful, like naval bases, mining and gathering cities, residential and governmental cities, and the like.

Just an FYI for everyone: I'm currently not in my own crew, I'm in a bigger, already established crew working as a redstone engineer, just to keep myself safe for a while. The crew has a lot of allies and keeps people off my back when trying to figure out what I want to do. :P
Oh... And don't expect too much if you get on. I haven't had much of an opportunity to build as I've been keeping my head down from rogues on the server. >.> Doesn't help that a certain dingus painted me as a scumbag just to get their way.
How about a group of warriors who fight to preserve knowledge? They have a ton of artefacts and historical texts, and they have an Egyptian theme.
Ah, that would be cool. But Egypt already existed and was put to rest in this server :-\
They wouldn't be Egyptian. They'd have the theme, but they'd have magic and other cool stuff.

Here's a potential government setup. It's a rough draft, and it has a few obscure server references because it was posted on the server forum.

The Avarian Kingdom is a crew that was created as a result of the split of the EE, like the Roman Republic and the Ebonheart Empire.
The goal of Avaria is to let people have the freedom and the safety to play [server name] as they wish. The Avari will be free people, so save for the server rules and the few rules that will be in place to help ensure safety, they will be allowed to do as they please.
The Avarian Kingdom will be a constitutional autocracy. There will be one overall leader, but a constitution that the leader and everyone else will abide by. There will be a council of four known as the Elect that will, with the leader, discuss and vote on all decisions. The leader will serve as a leader of the council and will vote on decisions last, breaking any ties. However, decisions regarding the change of the constitution must be accepted by the leader, or they will not be valid. These members of the Elect will be elected into their positions by the votes of the people, and will serve their duty for six months. As of now there is no limit to how many terms the Elect may serve.
The Elect will each have their own respective duties.
The Air Elect will be in charge of foreign relations, the voice of the people, and recording history. When voting on decisions, the Air Elect must take these things into account.
The Earth Elect will be in charge of resources and animals, as well as providing for the Kingdom. When voting on decisions, the Earth Elect must take these things into account.
The Fire Elect will be in charge of defense and security, and will be the leader of the Army. When voting on decisions, the Fire Elect must take these things into account.
The Water Elect will be in charge of trade and exploration, and will be the leader of the Navy. When voting on decisions, the Water Elect must take these things into account.
The First Elect will have to be chosen by me due to the lack of members. Their duty will be to help build the new kingdom, a kingdom who's members will be safe and free. If anyone is interested in joining the Avarian Kingdom as a member or as one of the Elect, or if you would like to pursue an alliance, message me on the forum or in game.
I like this form of government as it gives power to the voice and wills of the people, but I still have overall control of the crew. Regardless of if it has a theme or not, I'd like a government setup like this.
Kingdom implies dominance.
Perhaps a name like Barony, Earldom, etc.
Another idea is to have a (similarly exclusive) group of explorers. You'd be hired to survey new areas for other factions, perhaps eliminate other areas, with a light military based around speed and long distances. Your island could be mysterious, full of hidden structures and blocked against non-members. It'd be a fun faction, albeit with little reward.
Also, I'd like to join when you start one.

Haha, it was awhile ago. I doubt it'd be on the wiki.
We also teamed up with a group of Gondorians, and created "New Gondor" it was a city in the middle of Middle-Earth that was ruled jointly by the rangers and the kings of Gondor. Back then the Men of Middle-Earth were unstoppable. ;D
For those of you with the LOTR mod, I would suggest checking out Realms of Middle Earth (http://lotrminecraftmod.wikia.com/wiki/Realms_of_Middle_Earth). It isn't a very large server, but it has a good community and some interesting factions.

I used to like no-life Minecraft - I was pretty much in the competitive level on a large server (Hypixel), and I was on it 4+ hours a day... it was actually one of the contributing reasons to me "leaving" the old forum for a long while.
Since then, my philosophy on how I spend my time has changed, and I don't really play it much anymore. Now I play with my actual IRL friends on a realms server I bought for us on Minecraft PE. Though once I get my new computer built and my YouTube channel set up, I'll probably start recording things like the Hypixel server for YouTube, so that I'll actually get something rewarding out of playing on it...
