Title: A New Beginning - OOC Discussion and Sign-ups
Post by: Delthion on July 06, 2016, 05:01:00 AM
Many long years have passed since the Sundering of Salamadastron. Most of the hares that lived to see it are now dead, but those who yet live and are still able to remember have told the youngsters many things of that event. It was in the fifteenth year of the reign of Lord Ironlimb; the only badger in history to lack the badgers great prowess and curse, Bloodwrath. It was this lack of Bloodwrath that made some doubt his right to rule. But the hares maintained their loyalty to the Badger Lord for fifteen years. It was then, in the January of the fourteenth year, that a scouting party of a dozen Gallopers were running along the far eastern side of Mossflower, they sent a report back to the Mountain reporting nothing unusual and that was the last they had heard of them. When more Gallopers went to investigate they found a large vermin camp, with the leader boldly claiming that if he had killed a dozen hares, he could kill hundreds of them with the same ease. When the scouts went to report back to Ironlimb what they had discovered he said that the best thing that could be done was watch and wait. A few months later after continuing to track the Vermin's progress and Ironlimb continually deciding to watch and wait, the vermin arrived at the foot of Salamandastron. The vermin were defeated but at great cost. After the hares had time to recover a Captain and many of the other hares decided that if any event like this was repeated, they would leave, and enter the wilderness where they might have a better chance of surviving than under an incompetent Badger Lord. The Badger Lord not anticipating that they would follow through with their threat, did the same thing a few months later, so they left and have been wandering ever since, seeking for a place where they might build a fortress and a home.

It's been a long time since I have led or even entered a roleplay but I hope to see this one to the end! You can play as a hare preferably one of the ones born in the wilderness, there should be about a one to five ratio of young to old hares. You may also play as a woodlander that they picked up along the way, also as a vermin chief who first needs to hear of the hares before he advances against them. The idea of this roleplay is that the hares are building a fortress, and that they must defend themselves against the elements, starvation and various vermin groups to complete their goal. We need a lot more hares than vermin in this case, so if you wish to play as a vermin it would help greatly if you made two characters. Two characters at the most though, unless you're someone like Skarzs...a master of the art. ;D

There should no good or grey vermin in this one, the hares would never trust them.

History: The son of the Captain that started everything, he was given the task of building the Hares new home by his father while he lay on his deathbed. His father was killed by Flitcheye, this has hardened him. He is not as jovial as the other hares, and remains somewhat aloof, but he will defend his band or die trying.

Appearance: A tall, strong hare, with two different eye colors, one blue, and one green, and whoever speaks to him feels that they only have part of his attention while the other part is in distant lands and times. He lost half of his left ear in the battle that cost his father his life.

Han's Character
Name: Lord Huron Clearstream
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Species: Otter
Personality: Jovial and goofy. Rarely does Huron grasp the severity of a situation, and is often rather melodramatic. Like many Otters, he is quite fond of spicy foods, and has perfected a number of recipes. He loves cooking, as well as music. He is never without his homemade instrument, an odd looking device that appears something like a guitar with cymbals attached. Huron has a lovely voice, and will often introduce himself as "Lord of the Bards, Huron Clearstream of Redwall Abbey", a self-given title.
Reason for volunteering: Inspiration. The sights of the journey could lend themselves to new songs and foods, Huron's biggest interests.
Appearance: Surprisingly thin, considering he eats like a Hare, and also rather tall. He wears a Lincoln Green vest, and always has a belt with a small dagger in it. The instrument is strapped to his back, along with a satchel containing everything he needs for cooking. He wears a cap made of the same material as his vest, with a red feather in it, which Huron obtained from a Robin whom he would often perform for.
Weapons: The aforementioned dagger, and in drastic circumstances, his instrument.
History: Born into a tribe of warrior Otters that lived to the East of Redwall, it quickly became apparent that Huron was not going to be following that path. From an early age, Huron displayed little interest in fighting, always preferring to talk and eat. However, he would cheerfully serenade the warriors as they went off to battle, though he would stay behind. Eventually rumors reached Huron's ears, telling of a glorious place with amazing food, and the Otter bard knew where his future was. Adopting the title of "Lord", he left his tribe, headed for Redwall Abbey.
Other: He had been at Redwall for 3 or 4 seasons before the adventure.

Dan's Characters
Name: Brussel Willower

Race: Brown Squirrel

Gender: Male

Role: Permanently modifying vermin anatomy... One pest at a time.

Age: 27

History: Brussel lived a fairly quiet life in a small village of squirrels. They tilled a clearing down below and grew a variety of edibles aside from that which grew naturally. Like most villages in the area, they had harvest festivals, and the like, inviting neighboring groups to join in on the activities. Brussel's village was just a short way North of Redwall, but still well buried in Mossflower wood. Every now and then he heard stories of small bands of Hares that would occasionally pass through the area and join them during holidays, but these stories were several years in the past. According to some travelers that had been through the area some time back, Salamandastron was their place of origin, and there had been some dispute over the leadership there.

Brussel's family was small, consisting of his parents, himself, and his older sister. The two siblings loved messing with each other, but not as much as they loved one another. Small as this family was, they were happy in the simplicity. When he was about 16, during the last harvest of the season, a small group of vermin surprised the collectors as they were picking up after the most recently cut down row of produce. The rows all started near the forest fringe, which made sneaking up relatively easy. The vermin were foreign to the area, and desperate for food, so they jumped the gatherers assuming what they were carrying could be consumed. Most of the woodlanders huddled together as they turned to run, but Brussel's sister was alone. There was a single archer in the group, and he pegged her straight through the heart as her feet lifted to run. The basket she had been holding was quickly absconded with, as the rodents made their escape. Brussel was never quite the strongest, but he had always been the fastest, and he was gone before anybeast could tell him, "no." It wasn't too long until he spotted the escapees, and the murderer was in the back. Dropping out of the trees, he landed on the weasel before he had a chance to react, firmly planting the vermin's skull in the dirt. All of the others passed on without even checking, they all knew the dangers, and they were willing to sacrifice a companion if it meant they got to live.

Brussel stood there, looking, watching, thinking... He didn't rage, he didn't weep. His anger was calm, and his grief internally agonizing. With clenched fists raised, the squirrel stared at them intently. These fists would henceforth be used to till kindness, sow love, and reap peace... Primarily by fertilizing the soil with corpses of those who would otherwise have wrought pain in the lives of the woodlanders. Without once returning, and even looking back, Brussel moved on. He possessed a wide knowledge of vegetation and the forest, upon these two things he lived while on the hunt. This hunt eventually crossed paths with those hares he'd only ever heard stories about, legends, fables, myths... Yet here they were. He knew they were the ones, it wasn't too hard to tell when they crossed paths by running down the same band of vermin. Ever since then he's stuck himself with them, learning their ways (especially when it comes to fisticuffs), and showing them the intricacies of the forest, nature's tell tale signs of, "eat me!" or, "don't walk here!" He's filled various roles for the hares as time has passed, and he's learned their story as well as their cause. His devotion to thinning vermin numbers has merged with a desire to see these hares of the Long Patrol to the next stage of their watch. For better or worse.

Weapons: Primarily fights with bark-guarded feet and hands, having learned from personal experience, as well as the long patrol. He excels at debilitating opponents until he can land a crushing/life-ending blow, while avoiding or glancing off attacks using his speed, agility, and awareness to their fullest extent. Other than that, Brussel's been known to use less conventional methods to fight adversaries that posed unique challenges. Just in case, he does carry small throwing knives (gifts from the hares) which he's gotten quite accurate with. Even so, he prefers the more brutal up-close method, opting for the honesty of face-to-face combat as opposed to the way in which his dear sister's life was ended.

Appearance: His fur is medium-dark brown, resembling that of a dark oak. His eyes are a very vibrant lively yellow. He's of normal stature for most squirrel's with a brush slightly thinner than most. His tunic is patchy, consisting of dark forest green, and warm, medium brown. The guards he wears cover his entire forearms on the top (hands and fingers included), and both feet & shins on the exposed sides (left side of left leg, right side of right leg). They're made of mixed hard and soft barks, soft on top to absorb impacts (reducing reverberations), and hard on the bottom in the event he can't glance a blow (thankfully, that hasn't happened yet).

Name: Jesse Atirar (ah-ti-rahr)

Race: Mountain Hare

Gender: Female

Role: Long Patrol Phantom: Recon, Stealth, Fighter

Age: 24

History: Jesse might as well have been born a Patroler, effectively learning how to use a sling at the young age of five. Besides being a crack shot, she's learned how to disarm and use any weapon an opponent has back on themselves. Her family was loving, but disciplined. As a result, she's become a very respectful but honest hare. She grew after the sundering, but has faint memory of the mountain itself. This has lead to her questioning the decision of the elders, though she keeps this to herself. She's spent the vast majority of her years training and learning the ways of the Long Patrol.

Jesse was accepted into the Patrol early (at the age of 16), due to her maturity, and terrifying mastery of the sling. She's been running with them since, seeking the advice of the older squad members, and doing her best to be mindful of her surroundings as well as the effect they have on her abilities. About 5 years later, she met Brussel, and actually fought him. This was before they realized they were on the same side, meaning they both fought with the intention to kill. The vermin were one thing, but Brussel was completely different from anybeast she'd ever fought before. He had no weapons, instead choosing to rush her head on with nothing more than his fists! Jesse was not prepared to deal the squirrel, a position she'd never been in before. She couldn't hit him because of his movements and the restrictions of the trees, and he had no weapon for her to turn back. It was only lying on the ground, pinned under his weight, and staring straight up at his clenched, bark-covered fist that she realized what else she would need to learn. and that Brussel wasn't actually a foe. After the entanglement was sorted out, and apologies were exchanged, Brussel was invited to join the Patrol eventually leading to a strong friendship between herself and her once adversary. She learned many things with and from Brussel, the most notable being the art of boxing Hares. The next 3 years proved to be a great leap in her learning, much of it from the squirrel, whom she gifted with throwing knives which were a common weapon for her other family members.

Weapons: Primarily her custom sling and the pouch of goodies she carries for said sling. Outside of that, she carries a slightly larger than normal Tomahawk, and her limbs.

Appearance: She's a wee bit taller than most hares (being a mountain hare), and is well-built and highly refined in body. Her fur is extremely patchy, consisting of primarily brown and gray, as well as some tan, and less black (most of the black being the back of her left ear, her right forearm, and some flaring on the left side of her body below her waist). Her eyes medium blue. She wears a dark, earthy green combat uniform (modified to also have a waterproof hood [with black curve stripes to match] and outer material) striped with black on the sides and sleeves to signify her role as a Phantom. Her pants match the black of the stripes, and the sash she wears over the chocolate brown belt is bloody scarlet. This sash seconds as a scarf or veil, while the belt features sling pouches on both sides as well as a rear-waist tomahawk sheath.

Other: She's a very pleasant beast to be around, considerate of the feelings and troubles of other beasts, but also fun-loving, and encouraging. Fiercely loyal, she guards her friendships and friends with full-hearted conviction and devotion. Her accent is also less notable, as well as a tad different, but that doesn't stop her from singing (she loves music). Her voice is gentle, and holds a contagious calm with a bit of humor always hiding behind one of the corners of her constant smile.

I'm just gonna copy my character from Return to Redwall, if that's ok. I'd like to keep him as an Otter, but if you'd rather have me as a Hare, let me know, and I'll make the changes required.

Alright, so the topic is up, I am incapable of the hare dialect so my apologies for that! ;D

Also, I just remembered this. There will be two parts to this. The first part ends with them completing the fortress, and the second will begin with vermin attacking.

It wasn't too long until he spotted the escapees, and the murderer was in the back.

Without once returning, or even looking back, Brussel moved on.

I don't have a whole lot of time right now, but I wanted to make sure my interest was expressed!

Thank you Dan!

I just realized that I accidentally almost copied Faiy's RP, which is the one at the very back of this board! Oops... ;D

(I don't think it was copying, considering that that RP never went ahead after so many months.)

Yes, if you are an evil guy, Groddil is handling the vermin so PM him when you make your character. :)

Also! Once all of the hare people have posted then the feast will start and all that. ;D

@Sunpaw:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here's an extract of Del's first post.

There should no good or grey vermin in this one, the hares would never trust them.

Sorry, I didn't notice that they were done! ;D

One problem, Groddil was going to be the Vermin Warlord. @Groddil are you fine with Ashe being the vermin warlord?

Also Ashe, if you are the warlord then you won't actually come into contact with the hares until the second part.

Might I make a bally vermin character, wot?!

Not a high ranking one - just a sentry, for fun. He can die in battle.  :)

Err...Do I have a choice? Because I'd like to keep my character as the would-be warlord, if I can.

Also, @Lord Ashenwyte: You might wanna change your second character's name. Midge is pretty similar to Midgo, so the two might be confused.

Sorry for the triple post, I just need people to see this.

I've thought of what can happen with Midgo, Zurakh, after losing several vermin, is camped, Midgo is a member of Zurakh's personal bodyguard. After a few things happen, which will be worked out by the RP, Midgo assassinates Zurakh and takes over his place as warlord.
