What's your favorite character in the whole series, and why? Mine would be...maybe Veil, or Sunflash, or Tammello de Fformello Tussock? One of them. Veil because it's awesome that you get to experience the world of Redwall from the perspective of vermin in his book, and this is also cool:
Give him a name and leave him awhile,
Veil may live to be evil and vile,
Though I hope that my prediction will fail,
and evil so vile will not live in Veil.
Sunflash because he's kind, was friends with Skarlath, and was also, in my opinion, a really good badger lord.
Tammo because I enjoyed the book he showed up in, and he was the main character.
This is such a hard question. I can barely pick out my favourite character in each book or favourite member of a certain species! I'll have to go with Ranguvar Foeseeker, the black squirrel from Legend of Luke.
Honourable mentions: Martin, Keyla, Hon Rosie, Tagg, Tansy, and Grath Longfletch.
I think that there is a topic already for this. Any who, mine had to be Gonff (As you can see by my username).
Mine is one of four: Martin, Tagg, Gonff or Rakkety Tam.
Ive always liked evil more, so Vizka Longtooth would be my choice, though i liked Matthias, Asmodeus and Slagar
Warbeak queen of the Sparra is my favorite in the series paws and claws down. Followed by Ascrod the Marlfox.
TIRIA WILDLOUGH!!!
Either Skipper in Mossflower or The Mask.
Rose is definitely my favorite character in the entire series. She really fills the role of the female lead with something that none of the previous ones could... like bringing some balance in between Constance's abusive use of force and Cornflower's ingenious schemes.
It is hard not to like her :P
Well I think my username says it all haha. But yes, it's Mhera. Taggerung was the first Redwall book I ever read and I really like her calm under pressure, her kindness and she taught me many things about myself. I also love Gonff, that rascal holds a special place in my heart.
Rakkety Tam! Most certainly!

*fistbump*
Yep, it's Mhera for all the reasons you listed.
It's got to be Blaggut for me; his entire subplot is just so ridiculously adorable and heartwarming. Gonff would probably be my second-favourite (gotta love the cheeky ones). On the villain's side, I also really like Tramun Clogg. He's just such a joy to behold that, evil or not, you can't help but want to go chug a few mugs of grog with him.
I have many favorites in the series of Redwall Taggerung, Tiria Wildkough, Martin the Warrior, SunFlash the Mace, Matthias, and many others.

Hey! Don't rip on Constance! Constance was the best character in the original
Redwall! :P I can't really pick, pretty much any squirrel primary character, Dann, Sam, Song, Not Rakkety Tam as much, what's her face the squirrel queen from Mossflower, etc... I really like Rose too, she was the only mouse that I actually REALLY liked as a character, they were often so bland and run-of-the-mill. I simply enjoy squirrel personality more than the others, they're often excited, eager, and caring characters with a proficiency in a multitude of areas (A lot of Recorders, Cooks, Leaders, and Champions, etc. were squirrels). There were a couple of moles that made great side characters.... I can't come up with any of the ones I really liked right now though.
I can't just name one character because that would be difficult, but three of my favorites would be Luke the Warrior, Russano the Wise, and Russa Nodrey. I've always liked Luke; he was a great character and had several very memorable quotes in The Legend of Luke. Russano was always one of my favorites because of his personality and how different he was from other badgers. I loved how he was a very peaceloving, kind, wise badger that was able to control his bloodwrath. And Russa was another great character. The scene where she dies protected the baby Russano has always been really sad for me. Plus she was the original owner of one of my favorite weapons from the series and she wrote one of my favorite songs, The Song of the Stick.
Characters such as Warbeak and the other airborne characters such as bats always had a particular likability, I liked characters that made a impact on the story but weren't really in the spotlight Such as Shadow and Ascrod who were very interesting characters.
Leatho Shellhound was pretty awesome 8)
Tiria Wildlough was cool :)
Russano the Wise, Gonff, and Mask. Those would be my top but I have a huge list of favorites.
If I had too make a lizt:
1. Lord Brocktree
2. Martin ze Warrior
3. Arven
4. Jar Jar Binks ;D Matthias
5. Rasconza
Yes Lord Brocktree!! I really like any of the badgers they're so majestic and awesome!

And definitely not completely over-powered in every way. ;D
As stated before, it's difficult to choose one favorite character from the whole series :) I don't have one, but I have always liked The Mask. He was a cool and unique otter, and his bravery and sacrifice in the rescue of two young hedgehogs he didn't even know very well shows that he was a true, noble warrior as well.

;D
Their roles as rulers and protectors have always appealed to me and yes they are often times overpowered but it makes sense they are bigger compared to the other creatures of Redwall. Their prophetic vision and the spiritual side they have is also intriguing to me.
Martin
Buckler
Skor
Tam
Sunflash
Gonff
Tagg
Finnbarr
Skipper in general
Rake
Might add more later.
While I could never choose a favorite character, I am a fan of Mad Maudie. She's resourceful, brave, a little on the innocent side, capable of taking care of herself, and a nice person --er, beast-- to boot.
CONSTANCE! She's one of my favourites.
Gonff all the way! He would be my top favorite.. But there's so many others! :P
For example:
Skipper (I like them all :P)
Any of the badgers
Martin
Dinny
Finnbarr
Tam
Taggerung etc etc etc..
Mattimeo
Matthias, (from Mattimeo not Redwall).
Rakkety Tam
Armel (may have developed a tiny crush on her in years gone by. No more though).
I am not thinking of any others.
I don't like Mattimeo or Matthias.
Why?
I just don't like them or the books they're in.
You said that already. But what don't you like about them?

I don't really know why now that I think about it. When I first read the books they're in they were fine but after I read the others I didn't like them any more.
Matthias
Jess Squirrel
Warbeak
Florian Dugglewoof Wilffachop
Blaggut
Martin
And those are just ones I can come up with off the top of my head! Every book has characters that I love to read about and revisit, even the villains. For example, I loved Queen Silth's hoard in Marlfox, because the premise of a villain wanting to surround themselves in wealth and luxury at the labor and expense of honest creatures was quite novel for the Redwall universe, but certainly rooted in historical context. And though she's sometimes called a Mary Sue, I really liked Songbreeze from Marlfox as well, but
Hidden Text
I definitely raised an eyebrow when she was made Abbess at the end of the book.
It was just so RANDOM.
I think I'd have to say Mariel, she was usually so calm and I really enjoyed reading about her
I can't just give one answer....
Taggerung/Deyna, Matthias, Laterose, Lord Brocktree, Dotti - and SO many more
Sunflash the Mace or either Janglur Swifteye.
mine is ummmmmmmmmmmmm....................................... Oh ya sunflash the mace
Ashleg's top picks
(In no order.)
-Cluny
-Gabool
-Vilu Daskar
-Ashleg
-Sawney Rath
-Gruven
-Vitch
-Tsarmina
-Veil
-Nadaz
-Araltum
And least boring heroes,
-Matthias
-Tagg
-Mattimeo
-Bucko
-Brocktree
For some reason I really couldn't like Mattimeo for a while..... His tendency towards childish selfishness was too much. I like him better now, though, and when he just stared as the slaver literally broke a branch from beating him.... that's a cool scene.
I've always loved otters. They're swift, lethal, and totally lovable idiots. Among my favorites are Finnbar Galedeep, Leatho Shellhound, Tagg (though I didn't like him as much when he became Deyna), Shad (if he's the one who got the flowers off the mountain from the eagle, pretty sure 'twas him), Mask...... I could go on. ;)
Among a few of my favorite vermin: Rasconza the fox, definitely Shadow, and of course Tramun Clogg. The golden fox with flat eyes from Tagg's book always appealed to me, as did the guy from Eulalia. Foxes make great villains.
And of course Balefur and Rockjaw Grang, because the Highlanders' accents are the best thing to occur in this or any other universe. Doogy Plumm is on that list too.
SO MANY CHOICES!!! :o
I'm so ashamed, I forgot crazy Folgrim!

I really appreciated Mattimeo's character arc, from that brat "son of the Abbey Warrior" to a much more mature and experienced young creature. He still had some of that brashness left in the end of the book, but that was just part of him.
Also, welcome to the forum, Eila! It's great to have you here!

OTTERS? Why are otters idiots? Educate me.
I think hares, voles, and hedgehogs are shown to be idiotic...not otters.

LIKE SAYIN' ALL OTTERS ARE IDIOTS IS NOT?
;D
They aren't always idiots - I mean that as a term of endearment. But you gotta admit, part of what makes 'em so great is that they'll be fighting to the death one moment and calling each other 'Fleeko Spellbrown' the next.....
Yep.
Is that a British thing? Like drinking tea in the middle of a crisis?
Yes. Absolutely.
Also yeah otters are the best.
Otters are definitely the best characters. ;D
Agreed.
Disputed.

I do that all the time! ;D
*punches Delthion*
F-FLEEKO SPELLBROWN.
Who?
That was Leatho's 'baby name' in High Rhulain. Leatho Shellhound - Fleeko Spellbrown. I think it was one of Chab's babies who called him that.
This is a difficult question. I don't have an all time favourite character because they all so great but one character I do like is Basil Stag Hare because I just find him such a funny character in both the books and tv show. I also love the way he fights as well (distracting his enemies with insults and then taking them out ;D ;D).
Of all the redwall characters, I enjoy the Highland/Scottish characters the most.
One of the most interesting scottish characters is Sister Setiva(Shrewnurse) in Loamhedge. She is quite severe but can be quite kind at the same time.
Hmm... I'm not sure who's my favorite. (I've got so many. :P)
An honorable mention would be Mathias. I liked him a lot in Redwall and in Mattimeo.
For me, this would be a tie between Tagg and Lord Brocktree. I can't decided which is better! Augh....

I know, right? Brian Jacques did a really good job at making a lot of likable characters.
I have so many favourite characters! But I absolutely love Lord Brocktree. He has a cool way of dealing with situations.

Drinking tea in the middle of a crisis is a very British thing to do. And I should know.

You, madam, are a lady after my own heart.
You can keep your heart, thanks. I don't want it.
Lord Brocktree and Skarlath fight for the position, though I'm inclined to say Skarlath because of his fate.
Skarlath was a very cool character. (no offence intended in my previous post, Kade. :))
Even if the fence was not intended to be given, I am taking it as my own and will use it to build a fence barrier around my heart so that I may not be hurt in such a way in the future. I don't expect it to work very well.
Again, sorry.
You're good Eb ;)
My other favourite character is Gurth Longladle.
Yup he's cool. I stupidly put a mole in my Redwall fanfic. Help me.
Will do. When would be a good time to meet for so?
Um...Tuesday arvo? Is there riding this week, btw?
That is the best question I seen yet. Hmm, so hard!
(For the characters below I will compare them to Martin the warrior.)
1. Ranguvar Foeseeker- I reckon she is the strongest creature in Redwall other than a Badger, which makes me think she can make mincemeat of Martin!
2. Boar the fighter- once again, would destroy Martin. He's bigger, stronger and a better fighter than him. Three second battle!
3. Felldoh- Beat 20 vermin only armed with javelins! Probably beat Martin.
4. The Taggerung- It says he would match up to Martin, but I think he would win! Incredible skills.
5. Finbarr Galedeep- He beat Urgan and if a silly vermin didn't come in he wouldn't have died! Slightly better fighter than Martin
If you haven't noticed, I like all the warriors.
So where does Martin rank in your favourites list?
Mathias was pretty cool. I don't know if he's my favorite, but he's cool.
Yeah. The Marlfoxes are seriously so cool. By the way, has anyone else memorised Grath Longfletch's poem(s)?
Deyna.
Also eban, I have not. Memorizing the lyrics to "Lose yourself" is more important.
Yep.
Banya, your favourite is Ranguvar Foseeker? Someone likes her finally? She is my favourite.
Dante, I'm pretty sure it's a given that everybeast likes Ranguvar Foeseeker. They just don't normally bring it up because it's pretty hard not to like her.
Yah... Sorry bout that. I think I'm just crazy on her.
I can't choose one! But if I had to narrow it down I would choose, Sunflash, Basil, Riverwyte, Cluny, Finbarr or maybe even Martin. But then there are the Marlfoxes and Riggu Felis and Swartt Sixclaw and Rab Streambattle and Brocktree. I just can't choose!
