Poll
Question:
Favorite good vermin?
Option 1: Blaggut
Option 2: Veil
Option 3: Romsca
Option 4: Gingivere Greeneyes
Just was readin' a thread and thought of good vermin. Some I know:
Blaggut
Romsca (the character)
Veil
There's another one, I know it, I just can't remember the name!
Call me out on it if you want, but I put Veil on the list. ;) A baddie wouldn't take an arrow for a good mousemaid.
Agreed. @Mask, what book?
Gingivere Greeneyes.
Really? What book?
Squire Julian Gingivere. A good cat. Most cats were evil.
Ah cannae keep track of all these braw beasties! (not going to edit OP anymore) But I added a poll!
Gingevere Greeneyes is from the book Mossflower the brother of the cruel Tsarminia.
I voted Blaggut :)
I have to go with Romsca and Veil. They both did heroic deeds that most other vermin wouldn't even think about doing.
Even though he's not on the poll, Gingivere would definatly be my favorite good vermin.
GIngivere is on what pole? You mean poll?
Yes that's what I meant. Sorry, spelling mistake.
Veil
Sandingomm, Gingivere's mate.

I don't know! Is Blaggut from
Bellmaker or
Triss? I can't remember which good rat he is!
Bellmaker. Remember, he was there when Mother Mellus died.
I voted for Blaggut.
Then Grubbage is the other good vermin! Yes! I figgered it out!
I'm afraid that I must stay loyal to Wildcats, so...Gingivere Greeneyes!
The poll is now upside doWn stairs!

Hey, that's right! LOL! ;D
Romsca!!!
Blaggut is leading by one vote!
I added Gingivere to the poll once he was brought up. The other three had about a two day head start on him. ;)
For me it was a tie between Blaggut and Gingivere, but in the end I picked Gingivere
Oof. Not sure whether to vote for Romsca, or Gingivere.
I liked Romsca because she had some conflict in her story, starting off not caring about the abbot (Abbot Durral?), but at the end, she truly appreciated his company, saying "Your child, eh? I like that." (Paraphrased.)
Gingivere seemed to have been a decent person from the start.
Bah, Romsca it is!
Blaggut ;D
Gingivere. ;D
BLAGGUT!!!
D'you reckon Askor would flippin' count, wot wot? And what about Voogal and Crumdun?
Who... who... and who?
I mean no offence but what books are they from what did they do etc?
Askor's from Loamhedge.
The other two are from The Rogue Crew.
Why would Askor count? As far as I recall, he did nothing good in his entire life
Askor was from rakkety tam. He was a wolverine.
Gingivere was my favourite as a character so I voted for him, because how could you not like him? He seems like the sort of person I'd love to get a hug from. However, I do still love Veil's character arc.
Spoiler
I just love how in his final moments he showed his true colours. It seems like his upbringing really did rub off on him. I love that idea, and I love him not sticking 100% to his designated "evil" species character traits.
I too, love Veil. Purely because you can take it apart and see the whole case from different angles. Maybe Veil was mentally ill, maybe the abbeybeasts never gave him a chance, etc etc- there isn't much else in the Redwall series to really dissect if you will, in terms of character motivations.

If I remember correctly, they gave him plenty of chances and he threw them all out the window
We're not here to debate Veil...
There's some topics for discussing Veil, if you guys are interested! He's an interesting character to look at.

He is indeed.
I feel like a lot of the normal rank and file soldiers from the main books were rather grey-ish. Definitely not all of them, but I feel like I remember a few. Two of the ones from The Long Patrol come to mind, but they might be a bad example.
Sneezewort and lousewort, if my memory serves correct.
Hmm. Well, we can call them gray characters because we didn't necessarily see them have a chance to do evil. The true test is when they are given the choice, and choose bad.

In that case, I wonder if Ashleg from
Mossflower would count as grey...
