Shuffer Rushtide had outdone himself! Never had the end of summer feast been so delicious! Cockel and shrimp hotroot soup, fish stew, streamed trout, potato and scallion pie, honey oat scones, wheat farls, chestnut cream flan, cakes, pies, puddings! It was all wonderful! The hefty otter cook of Holt Rushtide came in bearing a platter on a reed cart.

"It's been a wonnerful seasons maties! This snapper was caught yesterday eventide as has been baking since then! Enjoy!" There were gasps of amazement as the cook uncovered the dish. The sweet aroma of the fish cooked to a turn filled the dining chamber as the Head of the Holt Shring Rushtide took a bite.

"Well stap me rudder tis excellent! Best fish I've ever wrapped me muzzle around! Dig in everybeast!" The sea otter quaffed a tankard of nettle beer and smiled to his mate. Eloyna was a sleek and athletic river otter. He chided he husband. "Such manners Shring! No wonder our young ones are so unruly with a leader like you to look up to!
_____

A battalion of fifty birds moved towards the Holt. They had heard that the otters had what they were always in need of. Food, drink, and young ones to labor for them!

"CaCaaaw! Ready all on my call!" A one eyed magpie cocked his head towards the Holt below. "We must take young ones to serve our Lord!"

A chorus of harsh caws resounded. The air horde of Lord Bloodwing was coming...

Whiteflower smiled prettily as she took a delicate bite of the fish, her face immediately lit up with pleasure. The sound of the birds blended with the noises around her, she didn't even notice.

OOC am i otter number 1 or 2?

BIC Searose was eating a big mouthful when she noticed one of the otters sitting next to her was looking at her while eating his food. "Look at someone else!" she said as she whirled her slingshot at him and knocked him out cold hoping no one had seen her. She started sipping her drink. Searose had a nice temper most of the time she was amazingly pretty but hated it when a otter looked at her she could only stand a couple of the Men in the Holt. but only a couple.

(ooc: You are otter 1 Maudie)

bic:

The otter leader laughed heartily as Oakpaw offered him challenge.

"Aye friend Oakpaw! Otter hotroot soup eating it is! Shuffer, set up the bowls!" As the cook set out a cauldron of soup and wood bowls and spoons Shring eyed the other otter. "Think ye can best your own Captain eh Oak? Ye'll be cryin' tears o' 'otroot when I'm finished with ye!"

Eloya merely shook her head slowly back and forth. "That 'usband o' mine..."
____

"Now! Caaacaw!"

The harsh cry rang out as the birds dived towards the rush ceiling of the dining area. Coming down fast, beak first, they hoped to crash through and take the otters by surprise.
_____

"Birds! Sound the alarm!" The sentries began to sound the alarm as the birds came down. A few birds were felled by arrows from those on watch. The watch otters were slain by sheer force of numbers as the birds pounded into the dining area.

"Otters to arms! We're under attack" Shring sprang up and began to whirl a sling. Hopefully he and his warriors could fend off the attack...

Whiteflower was automatically up, her sling already in her paw, a stone in it. She waded fiercely in, screaming all the war cries she could think of at the top of her voice. "Wham! Thwack! Crack! Shwing!" she hit some birds over their heads, others she let a stone loose on, sometimes she only managed to get beaks and talons when the birds swung for retaliation.

Dewdrop cried. She grabbed the nearest thing to her, a knife. She used to to push off the bird which had charged at her. A look of happiness spread across her face. A perfect hit! She saw the blood on her knife. She charged head on into the battle. She was smiling as a bird headed towards her. She didn't notice one come up behind her and hit her with talon. She fell to the ground, knocked out cold.

Whiteflower thwacked a bird over its skull, but this certain carrion happened to have quite a thick skull. When Whiteflower turned to fight off another feather-bag, the one bird, half-dazed, crashed into her, she fell to the ground, and her sling, which had been in mid-swing came crashing onto the back of her skull, she saw stars, and then was lost to the world.

The massive crow Lord Bloodwings lifted his vermillion-streaked wings to the sky and cawed. "Kraaaaa! Kill streandogs! Kill riverdogs!" He disdainfully grabbed a passing otter, flew as high as he could, and dropped the poor beast. It hit the ground with a thud, bouncing and rolling.

Lord Bloodwing cawed furiously as he perched on a pine grove, watching the battle. Rooks and magpies brought water fom the sea in beaks or leaves to clean his face. The raven screeched as salt water stung his eye. "Kreeeaaah! You buffoons, watch yourselves! Kroo, Gakraw, my seer, what do you see."

Gakraw, a blind, pure white raven, shrugged. "Kakaw! I see nought but victory for you, lord."

Bloodwing nodded. "Akak! You are a good seer, Gakraw."

The seer lowered his head. "Only when I serve you."

BIC:
Shring fought as hard as he could but there were just so many of the birds. He swung his loaded swing, shouting war cries until his voice went hoarse. He watched as the otters of his holt fought to regain their territory. Some were tossed by the birds and bruised. Others blinded for a time by wing strokes to the face. Other were gouged by strong pecks. But still they fought, even the young ones.

"Oakpaw, gather our warriors!" The otter chieftain yelled out the command to the strong male as the birds began to fly from the holt. It appeared that the otters had won the fight, the birds were leaving!
____

Four to six birds struggled with their burdens as they left the holt. In the masses of black feathers it was not possible to see that three otter kits were being born away. Ekky, Whiteflower, and Dewdrop had been knocked unconscious and bundled in black bags. The birds had taken captives before and were well versed in quickly transporting small beasts by air.

Bloodwing called out harshly to his warriors. The Master would be please. Yes even the high Lord Bloodwing had to answer to somebeast. The Master was waiting on his slaves. Bloodwing knew getting them to the Master as quickly as possible was very important.

"Fly fast my Black Shadows! We fly to the Kingdom of UnderSky!"

The bid left the area like a mass of black locusts heading out over the hills towards the mountains of the east.
______

"Where are they?" Eloyna's features were grim as the assembly of otters came around her and Shring. Three young ones were missing. Trey, a middle seasoned female river otter stepped forward.

"I saw a black bag. It was being carried by five birds. I was just recovering from a peck to the head and did not connect things until now. It could have been carrying one of them!"

Shring did not hesitate, the young ones had been carried off by birds! They were slavers! The otter's blood boiled as he called the crew around him.

"So! It has come to this! Slavers have broken into our encampment! They have stolen our precious young ones. I call the warriors of this Holt to bring them back! Step forward and state your names. All you who will help find our young ones and destroy these birds!

Shuffer stood forward with a few other otter warriors of Reedbind. He nodded to his leader and looked to his sides. The other warriors of the holt also stood ready.

"When should we leave Shring?"
_____

Shring nodded at his warriors. Searose and Oakpaw were both very capable creatures. Shuffer was also a steady and true otter. These were tow others as well. Sisters from the holt. If they could not bring home to young ones no beast could.

"You leave now! May you bring our young ones back safe."

"And may you route evil from the lands!" Eloyna 's soft but assuring voice rang through the holt as the warriors left.
_____

"So which way should we go?" The sea otter cook asked his traveling partners.
_____

The crows had made it to the realm of UnderSky. There was a secret path into the kingdom. The bags were opened and the young otters were dumped onto the floor.

Crows paced about the three young otters. What would they do?

(OOC: Whoever reserved the hare character you can now join in if you wish. It would be helpful for the hare to know something of the birds they are tracking.)

BIC:
Shuffer had been under the impression that all beasts had been inside the holt as the birds left. Nobeast would have been able to see the direction they took to fly away. He did not voice this. Perhaps Searose had somehow managed to slip out before Shring had called them to attention? It was anybeast's guess really.

"West it is I suppose." The friendly otter slung his sack of provisions over his shoulder and took his time following the others. He knew one otter that would not be partaking in the meal he had been planning on making that evening. Being rude did not go far with the head cook.
_____

Many birds gathered around the three young ones on the ground. Ekky shivered as he awoke. His head hurt and he was scared. He looked at his two little friend.

"Where we be..."

"Silence!" The shout and caw of a large bird made Ekky turn his head in surprise. A brutal looking magpie stepped forward. "You will not speak unless bid to! You are under the rule of our Master now, in the land of UnderSky!"

The small sea otter looked up noting only blackness. Torches illuminated stone walls running up into the darkness. They appeared to be in a massive underground cavern.

Suddenly a hare appeared infront of the otter gathering, "I say there lads! Have a blooming peck of scoff for a starving hare, wot?"
He turned to the first otter he saw and said, "My name's Oakblaze. Call me Blaze. I'm a Mossflower hare, and I'm blinking hungry. Its been, let me see, two flipping hours since I last ate."

(OOC: I'm going to post this even though there was a response while I was writing. Perhaps Oakblaze can respond to Shuffer's last question and we'll go from there?)

BIC:
Shuffer strode forward and bid Searose to drop her paw from the hare.

"Hold on a minute Searose. I know you've lost yer sister but that's no reason to strong paw this creature. He's a hare and a woodlander. That makes him a friend of our holt."

The cook rummaged through his pack and brought forth some oat scones with honey baked in. These he proffered to the hare.

"I apologize for our  hasty behavior Oakblaze. However, there is a reason behind it. We've lost some of our young ones to a pack of dark birds. We need to know where they are headed and the best way to follow them. Perhaps you can help us?"

He rummaged some more and passed over a small vegetable flan to the ravenous beast.

"Perhaps you would like to join our group and lead us in the right direction?"

"Is the one you brought down still alive?" The otter mused.

"If so, the bird could be useful for information.

OOC: I'll fix the double. It's BrookSkimmer BTW. I needed to update during some other people's posting. I also made a mistake in the character section, Muse has Lord Bloodwing I have taken Verka the injured crow.)

BIC:

The crow winced as he was kicked by the hare. Verka had no idea a lapin could move so quickly! He had been diving towards Oakblaze ready to deal a swift death and instead found himself crumpled to the ground by a couple good punches. In the fall Verka had also injured his right wing.

The bird glared up at the otters and hare with disdain. They would get nothing from him! He would keep his beak shut... unless of course they tried to bully it out of him. Verka had never been able to endure physical pain. His wing and beak throbbed unmercifully. He tried not to cry out as the otter tied him up firmly with rope.
____

Shuffer leaned over the crow and spoke to him.

"Well me feathery mess! Care teh tell us where yer mangy companions went or shall we use force eh?"

The cook grinned and touched the handle of a large knife at his side.

Deep in the treacherous pitfalls of Undersky, the fierce Lord Bloodwing, accompanied by Gakraw and the three otterbabes, swaggered into Kaakarksaz. the abode of Akitka was enormous, a secret carvern known only to a select few. Lord Bloodwing storde over to the tremendous rift in the cave wall and screeched. "Kaawra! mighty Akitka, we bring you new slaves!" The babes screeched as the monstrous Atitka revealed himself.
(This is a little grisly. I can change it if you want)
Akitka was an enormous male badger, the largest Mossflower had ever seen. The face was horribly mutilated, the eyes milky white orbs and the jaw permenantly open, hanging slack as drool dripped ontot the ground. Akit and Ka, the beasts twin serpents, writhed about his massive frame. Posion pooled from their mouths and onto the badger's smoking fur.

Dewdrop regained herself quickly. She smiled at the Lord Bloodwing, "What do you want of us?" She managed to say. Her eyes gleamed fiercely. Though she smiled the tone of her voice said that she was ready for anything.

OOC-I am, I guess. he doesn't really talk very much, but he is enormous-bigger than Gulo, Boar the Fighter, and Asmodeus rolled into one.

Akitka roared and swiped the otterbabe up clenching her with his fist.
"I....want...you...DIE!" he howled.

(Sooo, Muse posted while I was writing. Perhaps we can combine the two posts together. Also, Muse I hope it's ok if others RP with Akitka too. Let me know if not and I can change my post...)

BIC:

Ekky could do nothing but moan. The little otter was scared senseless by the huge hulking beast before him. It was like a waking nightmare. The two snakes writhed around the beast's frame. The sea otter shrank back as Dewdrop insulted the monster.

"Enough!" The voice boomed around the cavern. The beast nodded to the birds on either side of him.  "Take small one!"

Ekky couldn't even struggle as the birds moved him forward at beak point. He moved until he stood right before Akitka. The beast held out a paw and allowed one of the two snakes to focus on the little otter.

"Those who disobey cause death!" The snake struck towards Ekky.
_____

Verka gulped against the dirk point. He had no hope of escape, especially with a broken wing.

"L-let me free of rope and I 'elp yas! No kill me!"

Shuffer nodded at the bird's words and pulled out his knife.

"Tell us where they took our kits and I'll cut loose the ropes feather bag!"

"Deh kingdom of Undersky! I take you there!"

The otter cook severed the ropes except for a noose around the crow's neck. This the otter passed to Searose.

"I'm sure you won't mind kickin' this feather duster about." He eyed the bird. "Get walkin' bird. Lead us false and I'm sure we won't have to worry about pillow stuffing for a few seasons."

Dewdrop struggled from the birds as she saw the snake move towards Ekky. "Let me go you pillow stuffing! Ekky! Ekky!" Dewdrop shouted.
Akitka stopped the snake from biting the otter. "Let live. Use to make mad one quiet."
Dewdrop understood. Ekky would stay alive as long as she didn't act up.
Akitka turned his ugly face to Dewdrop, "Next time you be mad, I kill you and others."
Dewdrop knew he meant it. Her eyes shined back at him with anger. "I'll get you one day. Yep, you and all your winged mattresses."
The bear ignored her now. He had other things to do. "Take them to cage."

Ekky felt himself drop to the hard ground as the bear released him and the snake backed. He crumpled into a little heap and lay there for a bit. Then he shook his head, wiping away tears and huddled with the others. They would be allowed to live...for now.

The cage was in a small rocky cave far back in the cavern that made up UnderSky. The otters were trust into the rusty cage and the gate slammed shut. There was another otter in the cage already. It lifted its head as the others tumbled in but said nothing. There were two ravens guarding the cage.

"Ca-caw! Please don't!" Before he could say more the she otter walked over and began to intimidate him. Words tumbled from Verka's beak. There was no other way he would live.

The Mighty Lord Akitka, Warlord of UnderSky, The Poison Bear, Octac the Insane, He Who Holds Death in His Paws, the Snake Whisperer, The Emperor of the Underneath, roared in agony as the poison of Akit and Ka coursed through his veins. The thunderous howls echoed up through Undersky, shaking several carrion birds from their perches. Lord Bloodwing winced as the echoes rattled his cave, shaking dust and insects down from the ceiling. "Wrakakan! Emperor Akitka is angry! Feed him!" Two rooks nodded and winged off into the air and out into the night.

(Maudie's got the battle with Akitka then ;D I shall bring our group to a meeting with the adder in the tunnel into UnderSky.)

Verka had not been wrong. There was a tunnel leading into the underground world. The crow's eyes shined with vengeance as he watched the otters enter the tunnel. They would never get there alive. Who could face an adder the size of the one known to be in the tunnel?

"Come on then! Everybeast follow me!" Shuffer edged forward through the small tunnel. It was not long before the dry smell of adder hit his nostrils. The cook began to shrink back.

"Hold on everyone...there's a snake in here!"
_______

Ekky watched the little otter in the cage. She was so small and weak. It was a wonder she was even alive. The little sea otter didn't know what to do. It was dark and scary and he wanted to go home!

(OOC: I will play the snake. Skipper, you have dibs on killing it!)

The adder's head rose as he scented beasts in his dwelling. Moving forward on silent scales, his black tongue flickering in and out, the snake stalked whoever it was.

Eventually the adder knew he was close. He could see the flicker of torches and hear footpaw steps. Then he was in front of them. There was a larger otter out front, holding a crow in front of him. The bird did not matter, he would kill the intruders!

The adder lunged forward and attacked the big otter with bared fangs!
____

The little otters waited in their cage under ground. There seemed to be no use in waiting. They were fairly convinced they would die in their prison. Nobeast knew where they were. They would never be rescued...

The adder felt his fangs meet flesh. Venom gushed forth to fill Verka with death. The bird stiffened and died without a sound. He fell to the ground a mess of black feathers. The adder hissed in disgust at his mistake. He had hoped it would be the otter!

Before he could think his eyes went dark and lightened seemed to burst in his head. He tried to shake his head free from the pain that engulfed him but no release came! He could not see and something wet dripped down the sides of his scaly face.

"SSSSssssssss Deattttttthhh!"

The snake rasped the words and began to strike wildly in all directions. He would kill the one who had blinded him and all others with him!

Oakpaw winced as the adders tail wacked him on the hip, he twirled his dirks and soared over the adder landing on its back, he had too hang on too stop himself falling of, using all his strength he plunged his dirks into the adders head, he fell of as he was hit on the side of his head by the adders coils
Title: Re: RP: A Tale of Reedbind: Quest for Justice

Shuffer stood back as Oakpaw went to work on the adder. It was not that the otter cook did not want to help, there was no way he could. The tunnel was narrow and dark. Between the otter with the flailing dirks and the coils of the adder Shuffer could not get through to help.

"That Oakpaw is some fighter." He breathed the words as the snake was dispatched by the strike to the head.

Once Oakpaw was on the ground and the adder was dead Shuffer rushed forward and came to Oakpaw's side.

"Come on matey, please be alright!" He hoped fervently that the blow to the head had not killed Oakpaw.

The tunnel ahead was now clear. Verka had died but they did not need somebeast to lead them any more. The kingdowm of UnderSky was now ahead.

The rooks, crows, ravens, magpies and owls flapped about the young ones cave, screeching horribly. Gawrak, the blind albino raven seer, chuckled dryly as he watched the small ones shrink back in fright. "Akaka! Methinks they art ready for Akitka, my lord!"

Shuffer was relieved that Oakpaw was going to be alright. To handle an attack like that the otter figured Oakpaw had more than just paws of oak. He was tough, that was for sure!

They edged down the tunnel until it opened out onto a ledge overlooking a large portion of UnderSky. They kept back from the opening, hoping that they would not be spotted. Carrion birds flew through the under ground air, their keen eyes somehow missing the small party of otter. Shuffer hoped it would stay that way.

"Now, how to find the young ones." The otter cook glanced around. "And how to end this awful place..."

"Whot n' Gates!" Shuffer breathed. "I've never seen a creature like that before!"

The cooks mind was running. How could they destroy this giant? Most likely if it died, the whole evil horde of birds might disperse. There was also the matter of freeing the young ones.

Shuffer swallowed as he watched the killing. Cold and heartless. They had to get the young ones and kill the bear!

"Are you ready Searose, Oakpaw?"

Shuffer understood the words. He had already been convinced that not all of them would make it out of UnderSky alive. He would have offered his own life to save the young ones but they could not all die! Somebeasts had to get the young ones out alive. If Shuffer was part ofd the group that escaped he knew that someday he might be asked to lay down his life for Reedbind in another way. If the Fates had decided on Oakpaw this time, then that was how it had to be. Of course the otter cook would do all he could to see as many otters as possible escape from UnderSky. He would help Oakpaw in any way he could.

"None of us can make the promise of leaving here alive maties. Let's just do our best to get all the little otters home safe eh?" He nodded to Oakpaw and Searose. "Let's get this over with!"

The cook began to slide along the wall face, keeping himself quite and hidden. As they went Okapaw would be in charge of creating diversion. They ocntinued to move until the cage was not so very far away. There was a huge rook with a key around his neck walking back and forth in front of the cage.

"Do not move to attack the guard bird until Oakpaw has the diversion underway." He muttered the words quietly to Searose and to himself.

"That's it! He's started the diversion!" Shuffer bounded forward with his sling whirling in one paw and a kitchen knife in the other. "Streeeeeam n seeeeeea!" The war cry of Reedbind burst out of him as he slammed his loaded sling into the guard bird. The big avian turned and with a squawk sent his beak like lightening towards the otter.

"Gates!" Shuffer cursed as his arm was cut by the sharp beak of the guard. He could only hope Searose could put paid to the other birds and then help him with the main guard. They had to get the key to get the young ones out!

Oakpaw charged through the birds, luckily they were taken by supprise and many a bird was killed in the charge, he was shocked as he saw the creature  that he had seen earlier emerge with two giant adders on his shoulders, this was enough to distract Oakpaw and he was knoked over by the birds, gathering enough strength he spun his dirks and the birds were very confused as they formed a pile of dead and live birds, he crawled out and charged forward but the birds flew out of the way and attacked from above

Shuffer began to pull young otters out of the cage. Searose's sister wailed and tried to cling on to Searose but Shuffer pulled her onto the ground.

"Be a good little miss and wait til yer sister helps pull the rest out eh?" He tried to speak calmly even though the situation was dire.

The cook's head turned as he caught sight of Akitka striding forward. Oakpaw had more than he could deal with. He would die for sure if he was not helped. Shuffer loaded a heavy pebble into his sling and began to whirl it.

As Searose got the rest of the young ones out the otter made a quick dash forward and hurled the stone at the snake of the bear's right shoulder. The stone connected with a "thunk" and the snake fell off. As t he snake fell Shuffer thought he could see Akitka reel slightly.

"Go for the other adder Oakpaw!"

Shuffer slung off another stone but this one missed. The other adder had seen what had happened to the first and ducked the stone.

"Gates!" the otter cursed as soil started to fall from above. He cast his eyes upwards and saw a crack was beginning to spread across the ceiling of the giant cavern. The whole thing was going to collapse!

"Aye! Get the babes!" The otter cook scooped up Ekky in his paws and herded the others towards the exit tunnel. "Searose! Get them to move! We're all going to get trapped in here if we don't move!"

Oakpaw was in the grips of bloodwrath. He would not listen, even if it meant his dying.

"Oakpaw, run with us!" Shuffer hoped the otter warrior would make it out too.

Oakpaw was regaining his strength from the bloodwrath, he sheathed his dirks and started to chuck rocks and stones slowly backing up, when he saw the others had made it he made a dash avoiding rubble falling down, he was almost there when the tunnel exit collapsed he was trapped! then he saw the adder, it began hissing violently and was slithering ever so closer to him, he tried to get onto its back but it hit him with is strong coils and sent him flying, then suddenly the adder sprang forward and bit him in the leg, Oakpaw gave aloud bellow and plunged his dirks into the snake moments before the whole tunnel collapsed

(OOC: I was thinking perhaps a couple birds would have somehow gotten out but enough of them would die that UnderSky will be destroyed.)

Shuffer did not run far. He deposited the otter babe he was toting to another otter from the group. After this he found Searose.

"Searose!" His breath came ragged as he continued. "We need to go back fer Oakpaw. He's trapped down there and I'm not going to let him die like those rotten birds!"

Shuffer ran back to where stones were still shifting from the collapse. He began to pull rubble from the hole with strength that came from adrenaline.

"He can't be too far in here! If we can shift some of these big rocks we might be able to reach him!"

Shuffer dug with the strength of ten otters. He dug until his paws were broken open and bleeding. He dug until the breath ran ragged from his mouth. He dug until he would dig no more. With one last shove at the rocks he collapsed on the pile.

"It's no use... can't do any more..." As he spoke the rocks he had collapsed on shifted. Then a whole pile of rocks and earth came tumbling out. A hole back down into the tunnel had appeared. Immediately the otter began calling down the hole.

"Oakpaw! Hold on matie!"

The otter cook began crawling down the tunnel. It might collapse again and kill them both but he kept going. He finally found Oakpaw and began to drag him out.

"Just hold on matie. Let's get you out of here!"

Shuffer continued to pull of Oakpaw until he was out of the tunnel. As ha pulled one last time they both tumbled out onto the grass. It was dark, the sun having just set. It was also quite cold.

"Searose, do you have any healing skills?"

The cook questioned the other otter as he cast about for tinder, flint, and steel. They needed a fire. Oakpaw looked like he was taking fever and they had to stop the adder's venom from killing him.

"What should we do?" Shuffer was anxious now. He did not have healing skills and did not want to see his otter friend die.

"Hold on matie. Searose is going to get all the poison out. She'll heal you!"

He watched and waited to see if Oakpaw would make it. A deep sigh escaped his lips and Shuffer could not tell if it was from being tired, or in pain, or both.

After this it dawned on him that he had not accounted for the young ones they had rescued.

"Where are the young ones? I'm sure your sister is nearby. What of Ekky and the others?"

As if he had been called Ekky shuffled up next to Shuffer.

"'Scuse me sir Shuffer... is it ok to play in the water with Oakpaw?"

Searose just caught the last line
"Do what right away?" she asked coming up from the river where her sister was playing.

"Night it is so hot out here!" That was Riverrose and Searose had to agree
"Yeah it will be a lot cooler at night, but i am not the decision maker."

The otter scratched his rudder as he thought over the choices. Right now or later that evening.

"Hmmmm, well, home does sound wonderful but it can wait a few more hours. Let the young ones play in the river a while longer. We'll all get a good rest and then set off for Reedbind!"

Shuffer's thoughts drifted to his home as he lay back to rest in the shade. Everything had worked out so well.

"I'll cook ye the biggest pot of soup you've ever clapped eyes on Oakpaw matie. I'm sure they'll call us heroes, and you especially after they hear of how you risked your life with that serpent."
____

Shadows lengthened as evening set in. Shuffer rose and stretched. All the young ones were still curled up sleeping. He nudged Oakpaw and Searose.

"Let's just carry them for a while eh? It's time to head for home."

Shuffer picked up little Ekky and started on his way. It would not be long before Reedbind was in view.

Oakpaw lifted one in too his arms, another one stirred so he put his finges to his lips and let her ride on his shoulders, aslong as Shuffer kept his promise about the horrot soup Oakpaw didnt mind not being a hero, he wached the starry sky as he padded forwad slowly

"Oakpaw I have a question why did you embark on this journey? there was nothing in it for you really?" searose asked him looking ahead while walking.

Oakpaw looked suprised at the question but awnsered readily "there was nothing in it for me yes but i felt it was my duty to free the young ones and save little uns in the future from those creatures" he shifted his hold and carried on walking "satisfied?" he smiled slightly

The otter glanced over his shoulder as Searose questioned him. A small smile appeared under his bushy whiskers as he answered.

"well Reedbind is me home and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep my home safe. UnderSky is buried now so we won't need to worry about those birds again. If others threaten our holt I'll be the first to do all I can to help."

Shuffer nodded after his own words and hiked Ekky up on his shoulder.

"now, let's go home!"

His voice was light as the sea otter dreamed of home.

(I feel this might be a good place to end this thread. Let me know you want to continue. I'll be putting up a new Reedbind thread soon. Thanks for a great rp!)
