Title: Happy Autumnal Equinox!
Post by: Matthias720 on September 23, 2011, 05:50:52 PM
So the Autumnal Equinox is upon us again. Well, at least for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere.

How do you like to celebrate this change in season? What things do you look forward to in the coming months?

I am looking forward to a gallon of apple cider and some fried cakes. :)

When Autumn comes to me, I usually make many, many, many paper leaves and color them beautifully, then put them on or in every single window in the house. I also decorate my Creationist Cave with season colors.

(The Creationist Cave is my name for my bedroom. It looks like a cave on the inside, and is lined with fossils and tons of evidence for creation.)

For me it just gets really cold. We are already having cold weather, so it's gonna be a very cold winter. But fall also means: my birthday, running around in my shawl, a Halloween (for me they it is All Saints Day) party, spending time inside where it's warm, and on some nights we make a fire outside.

I'm sure not. Every other word out of my brothers mouth is "football". Ugh! He drives me crazy! He teaches my younger sibling how to play football and everything he says is somehow related to football or food. So kinda like me with Redwall :D

Sigh...I am the only girl in my Sunday School class. Guess what the number 1 topic is next to God? Yup, you got it. Football. Ugh.  :P All that time, training, and hard work, just to get a ball over a square frame. Although you pointed something out for me. Birthdays. My birthday is coming up, too. :)

Autumn is my favourite time in Japan. :) School sports days (and the teacher parties that come with them!), Autumn festivals, delicious food, moon viewing events, autumn leaves, rice harvesting, autumn plants blooming... I love it all! Plus, the weather cools down so you're not breaking a sweat just by existing, but it's not yet cold enough to have to wear 5 layers to work.

Fried cakes are just cakeier donuts. ^_^

So you make them the same way as doughnuts, but it's cake? Nice!

No. What I meant by that is that the donuts are more like the consistency on cake, while still being donuts.

Ohhh, righto. I'm not down with al this American food lingo. My friends couldn't believe I'd never had pumpkin pie before.

Speaking of pumpkin pie, it's delicious and I'm looking forward to that this Autumn if anyone makes it.  :D

Have you had pumpkin pie before? Last year we grew our own pumpkins and made pumpkin pie out of them. It was yummy.

...while Conformation could be an appropiate term for the sacrament you are now studying for, I believe you are preparing for your Confirmation...you will be affirming and confirming to the priesthood and the congregation that you accept the Catholic faith and will strive to be a faithful soldier of Christ...you'll be questioned on your knowledge of basic beliefs and given a soft symbolic slap on the face to test your resolve...if I remember correctly...

...and a belated blessed Mabon to all...looking forward to a festive Samhain...

...the Hunter is rising higher in the predawn skies...fall and winter are my favorite seasons...

*bows*
Are you catholic? I was in confirmation class not too long ago. It was interesting. Sounds like you knew your Religion.

..I was raised Catholic...don't practice it much anymore...I have a healthy respect for all religions and faiths...I've studied many over the years..

..yep..again, it was a long time ago, but if I remember right the book is The Baltimore Catechism...we learned it by rote and drilled for weeks...good luck Maudie...

Yeah, good luck. I was memorizing catechism since I was like in 1st grade. So it was easier for me to remember the slightly harder edition. I actually never studied. I was naughty.

The day of the Test:
Friend: I was up all night reading over the last chapter.
Other Friend: I spent all week memorizing the questions
*all turn to Musician*
Musician: Yeah, I didn't study.

We're getting off topic, people. There is a thread called 'Who among ye is a Christian" where you can discuss that kind of thing.

I always love to make huge leaf piles and then toss my big brother into them! Yes, I am a terrible little sister...

*Wicked giggle.*

I wouldn't say we're going too off topic. Because here Sunday classes were a big part of my Autumn, Nightfire.

..and Michaelmas is a traditional feast day which helped to mark the harvest time...

I guess. What, exactly, is conformation? I've heard of it, but I have no idea what it is.

Not really feeling like autumn yet where I am with temps in the 60s and trees with green leaves.  Give it a couple more weeks after a good frost and it truly will be autumn in NY.  I typically don't do squat except shiver on the cold mornings.  :P
