I often work in tree work/arboriculture over the summer and that industry too for example is full of people who are either ex cons, drug addicts, kinda nuts or in some cases a combination there of. Druggies can be unpredictable but as far as the ex-cons go, those who are clean or mostly clean and sane- they're actually not really bad people to work with- just show them respect and listen to instructions etc... and they'll return it. A lot of times even they will literally give you the shirt off their back. One guy I often work with I consider to be a pretty good friend even despite the fact that he's quite a bit older than me. He used to do bank robberies, burglaries, was even caught up in the shooting of a cop. But when you say they're not the best association well you're the filter for that. If as a result of them you're shooting up dope in the alleyway behind work well then id say they got you. But if you take the good i.e. work with them, be respectful etc... and leave the bad you should be fine...
