Am I the only one who was mad when Tansy(?) cast the pink pearls of Lutra into the ocean?
I was kind of irritated, yeah.
Yeah, I mean after all, beasts dies for those blooming pearls, and she just chucks 'em into the sea!
Exactly! I am glad that I am not the only one.
very wastful.
They should have put them in that museum thing they made in the Long Patrol, or was that after?
no, POL was before LP. it was very pathetic.
*Nods in agreement*
That makes 4, anyone else?
I'm not so much mad at the pearls being thrown away (because the pain they caused, and they really had no use for them), as much as I am mad about the death of their friend all for the sake of finding the pearl that they didn't need for ransom anyway. I mean, I know at Redwall they would have had no way of knowing about the events at Sampetra, but at a certain point their search of the pearls felt more like a treasure hunt for fun than a necessary action.
Yeah, but her friends went through hardships and here best friend died so she could get them, don't you think she should have kept them to treasure her friends love and sacrifice?
Yeah, I mean, couldn't they give 'em to some poor mouse family or something like that?
Though I guess wherever they went vermin would probably follow.
They should have just kept them as a Redwall treasure or given one pearl to each of their allies as a sign of good faith.
(Or buried them with Piknim)
Now that is a good idea.
All of these are good ideas, all I am trying to point out is that there were many good option for the pearls, why where they thrown in the ocean?
Purely from an alternative perspective to my own ideas- wherever the pearls went misery followed. Giving them to a poor mouse or keeping them in the abbey would only bring danger in the form of other Ublaz's. Some things are better off lost and I like that. But it's the things that came before that really bothered me- the fact that the Pearls ended up useless and all. So it's a combination of factors and while the throwing of them away wasn't a bad idea in itself- throwing them away after all that had happened *was* (in my opinion anyways)
^^
What he said
I like the idea of an alternate ending being that they were buried with the person who died.
That would have been so much better than just throwing them in the ocean. By doing that she is disrespecting all the good people who died protecting them and her friend who died so Tansy could posses them. Burying them with her would be the least she could do
Glad you like the idea (honestly it's canon to me)
You are good with FanFics, why don't you make one?
Well er- kind of busy writing a few others (writing takes a lot of time)... But maybe once.
Let us know when you get there ;)
Your wish is my command...

pssstt! Tungy! wish for a herd of wild chinchillas!
??? Why?
just because, I guess.. your wish is his command!
Yeah, but I wouldn't want to wast a good chance like this on chinchillas
right, I've already had pet chinchillas, maybe new experiences are good! ;)
Now it is time for you to get back to the cellar where you belong :P
partypooper. :D
Go party in the cellars C:-)
*partys*
Anyhow. . .
Is this thread about more than just the pearls? Or the book in total?
I think the whole book but we just started with a rant about the pearls. (I think, right, Tungro?)
What Wite said
One of the better ones in my humble opinion. I kind of wish Martin II had done more though.
They should have just kept them as a Redwall treasure or given one pearl to each of their allies as a sign of good faith.
@Tungro - i like that idea
there were a lot of better options, definitely.
With the whole gift for the allies would be kind of cool as it would show there unification and friendship...
