I think American Pie is different to Australian pie. All I can think of for "pie" is apple pie and meat pies.

Y'see, in 'Straya, this is a cake:

And this is a pie:

So yeah, I voted cake. For that reason.

Pies aren't just for dessert, that pie is full of meat. It's a pastry dish. To be honest it probably tastes delicious, depending on the meat.

I have had pot pie that look something like that and the "slimy" sauce is really delicious and there are a lot of different type of Pie, like Fruit pies,  Chocolate pudding pie, lemon meringue and so many more.

That one, by the looks of it, is steak and kidney. They are quiet gross, yeah. But the plain beef, or the chicken, or any others are much better. And yeah, apart from apple pie, Australian pie is either that, or a slightly bigger version of that.

Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

Books, very easy simply because the movies manipulate the plot too much.

Books. It's absolutely no contest. Movies just aren't long enough.

Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

Usually the book, so I'm going with that.

But for the Secret of NIMH, I did like the movie more. :3
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: The Skarzs on June 29, 2016, 05:26:16 PM
You WHAT?!
I liked the book a lot better. It closed off so many loose ends that the movie left open, it didn't have anything super dramatic like some random magic stone or plots for death, the characters were so much more realistic. . . Heck, everything was more realistic.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Jetthebinturong on June 29, 2016, 05:31:05 PM
I've never seen The Secret of Nimh (ugh, why did they feel the need to change the title?) and I don't really intend to. The book was firmly grounded in science and magic just doesn't fit into that world. Also I really hate the fact that they changed Mrs. Frisby's name; what was the point?
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Rusvul on June 29, 2016, 08:13:52 PM
See, I used to be very much a book person. I'd read constantly. But I've become less and less like that over the years, and as of now, there's a lot of things I'd rather do than sit down and read a book. Of course, I still enjoy books- especially while traveling- but as of now, I watch more movies than I read books. They take less time.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Cornflower MM on June 29, 2016, 11:03:20 PM
I. . . . Can't answer the question.

Take Princess Bride. I, without question, prefer the movie to the book in that case. I like the book too of course, but Buttercup spoiled it for me. So whiny. Also, who gets 'syllabub' and 'syllable' mixed up?

But, say, PJO? HAHAHAHA BOOKS.

You see my dilemma?

And, strange as it may sound, I appreciate movies based off books in their own way. . . . I mean, if they followed the vbook exactly, that could be very boring. You already know exactly what's gonna happen. . . . *Shrugs*

Like I said, I can't pick.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Banya on June 30, 2016, 03:04:19 AM
Books. If I hear of an appealing movie based off of a book, I like to watch the movie first and then read the book; that way I'm never disappointed. This was the case with both Twelve Years a Slave and I am Number Four, for example. However, it usually happens that I discover and enjoy a book before it's adapted into film.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Wylder Treejumper on June 30, 2016, 03:06:57 AM
Books! For the simple reason that it's hard to accurately translate characters and plot from one format to another, movies based on books tend to be disappointing. Movies created with the sole intent to be movies are usually far superior; directors and screenwriters are able to use the most effective techniques, instead of trying to twist a book into a good movie.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: The Skarzs on June 30, 2016, 03:30:37 AM
*Looks at the poll results.*
We're a bunch of nerds. xD

Movies that are made to be movies, yes, I agree are often better than ones based on books. There are a lot of movies I like, but there is also something so satisfying about reading a book. It may have to deal with the senses that are used for either ones. With movies, you tend to be fed information, most of it using sight and hearing. With books, you use your imagination, and you almost create the world you are reading in your mind using the descriptions.

I suppose they both have their place in the entertainment world.

I agree with the majority here. Books are better than the movies that are based off of them. Movies made to be their own story without depending on a book are good, and most of the time I would prefer to watch a movie, but when I find a good book, I'd rather read that. Books give you more freedom and ability to imagine something on your own, while a movie can't really do that.

Books. Because you can pause and stop when something tragic happens, or when you giggle with excitement. The book has details which immerse you in the world, and let you see it the way you want to. Plus, books give you a much longer experience that usually lasts more than 2-3 hours. To top it all off, books smell much better than movies.

The best thing about winter are the holidays. After those are gone and the reality sinks in that you still have two more months of this to go...

I don't mind winter, for December. After that I'm done and ready for things to be back to normal. Unfortunately, the seasons don't work that way. ;)

im really glad ambivert is on here!!

Introvert: One who "recharges" by being alone
Extrovert: One who "recharges" by socializing
You can be shy amd still be an Extrovert!!
You can be outgoing and still be an Introvert!!
It depends on whether you need alone time or you hate being alone!! It's not Shy vs Outgoing!!
You can also be an Ambivert, someone in between those two.

I'm more of a lesser of that Kit. I'm fully introverted, probably more than most of you on here. But when I am around those I am comfortable with like by friends, or on here for example. Heck, my close church friends usually look for me to make them laugh! But I need to be alone, badly. If I can't be with myself and think through many different things, then I literally can't function. And I love this so much because I get to think about what to write, how to further my book, and how to react in certain ways. Being an Introvert really helps me more than it hinders me.

When it comes to swimming, the pool. Though I do love rocky beaches, or coasts where it's so flat that the wind just comes whipping across the water all the time. (It feels so awesome on a nearly bald scalp.)

With a pool you don't get sand on your bottom.

Pool doesn't try to burn you eyes out like the beach, plus you can't have an indoor beach.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: Søren on August 10, 2016, 06:56:49 AM
This is hard, because the pool is better for swimming, while the beach is beautiful and a better total experience. I'll vote beach, but just for the sand and the view.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: LT Sandpaw on August 10, 2016, 12:55:13 PM

The beach is great! But I've always enjoyed pools more, plus the realm of pools contain water parks, slides, and such which makes pools a little more enjoyable. Not to mention after a half hour on the beach the novelty wears off and it becomes boring.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

I'm not a huge fan of either, but my vote goes for the beach. There's sand, seagulls, and all sorts of things. It's only fun if I stay away from the water, though :P

I've never been to a beach, but I hate the lifeguards and crowds and chlorine at pools, plus beaches have waves. Waves are cool. So I choose beach.

Depends what 'videotape an original movie' means. If we're being exceptionally literal and I'm the guy with the camera, I'd rather... Actually, no, even then I'd still prefer that. I get paid and I don't have to spend years of my life writing. Unless I can publish a book of short stories or something.. That might be fun.

If I'm directing a movie (or doing the writing for one), though? I'd much rather do that. I think I'd find watching my work come to life on a screen more rewarding than making it come alive on a page.

Totally agree

Even though I am writing a book right now, and plan to write my entire life, I still love editing and filming. I used to do it all the time back in fifth grade by making really bad movies and music videos with my brother and his friends. There is just something about it that is so fun. I guess the visual aspect which you just can't have as much with a book. Still, I chose Writing a Book.

Filmmaking is a long and expensive career to undertake. A good writer could do the same thing in a book that a filmmaker could do in a movie, at less money and resources. Don't get me wrong, writing a book is hard, but it's certainly better than making a movie.

Movies reach more people, they pack a lot of information into two hours while good books typically take a lot more time to read and create. Also unless your books are hits you're never going to have the audience that even a mediocre movie will have.

Moneywise I would definitely go for the movie.

And as many film studios have proven movies can be just as informative and entertaining as even the best books, besides there are so many new technologies that are being introduced into film making that you can just do so much more with movies. You can do long stretches of visually pleasing scenes to be refreshing, or heated dialogue, and one-liners and jokes are so much easier to do in movies.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good book, but if I was to choose between writing, or screen writing... Oh wait...

You don't become a creator for money unless you're an idiot. Because the fact of the matter is unless you're absolutely fantastic at what you do, pretty much no one is going to see it. You do it to get your ideas out. Money is just a nice bonus.

Most people go into the business of writing and film making to make a living, for money, not to let people simply enjoy their work for free. Maybe they are all just idiots, but they are rich idiots all the same. ;)

If your into letting people read and watch whatever you make for absolutely free, well that's what Youtube and online writing is for.

Leader or

Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

Follower. I tend to see this as something of a learning experience. If you are a follower, let's say to a King. If that king makes dumb choices and deacions that ruin more than it fixes, you time following him gives you knowledge of what to do it you are King one day. Same goes it the King does good. Plus, I'm no leader and never will be.

The gift cards. I buy so much from Amazon...
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!
Post by: LT Sandpaw on September 14, 2016, 03:02:32 PM

I'd go for the 100k in cash, gift cards are questionable and sometimes even have an expiration date. One of my biggest concerns would be the inability to invest money from gift cards. I like taking large sums of money I earn and putting that into mutual funds. I could hardly do that with an Amazon card.

Besides I really don't need a million dollars worth of junk off of Amazon either, though it would be cool. I wouldn't say no to a million dollar gift card.

For the next poll, you should ask whether people say "excuse me" or "pardon me"- I say "Pardon me", but most people where I live now say "excuse me". I guess "Begging your pardon" is a variation of the former (or vice versa), though... More common in the South, I'd say.

It's easy to be a perfectionist on things that matter to us, even if they impact others little. A piece of a cosplay, for example, I will spend hours on trying to get it the way I envisioned it. In my posts, too, I try to make the grammar and spelling flawless. A school paper, though, will eventually get a "good enough" and get turned in as is.

My reasoning:

You can block out see, hear, and smell by closing your eyes, breathing through your mouth, and covering your eyes. And nothing really sounds disgusting anyway.

Between feel and taste, it's a bit obvious. You can't block out taste, but you can just close your eyes and imagine that what you're feeling is just something that feels similar. Or you just never know what it is in the first place. Would you rather step in a dog turd, or eat it? Would you rather touch a rotten egg, or lick it? Would you rather stick your hand in someone's gaping leg-wound, or stick your mouth in?

My reasoning:

You can block out see, hear, and smell by closing your eyes, breathing through your mouth, and covering your eyes. And nothing really sounds disgusting anyway.

Between feel and taste, it's a bit obvious. You can't block out taste, but you can just close your eyes and imagine that what you're feeling is just something that feels similar. Or you just never know what it is in the first place. Would you rather step in a dog turd, or eat it? Would you rather touch a rotten egg, or lick it? Would you rather stick your hand in someone's gaping leg-wound, or stick your mouth in?
This post was an emotional roller coaster.

Surely you've heard disgusting noises?
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

Disgusting noises can be anything. On one hand, it could be a giant mosquito slurping on somebody's intestines. Or it could just be a kid with some silly-putty and a thickshake.

Sorry if you didn't have enough time Sky, I forgot to check the votes before I changed the poll. But it is Tuesday, so the week is over and it is time for a...

New Poll!

Simpler this time, Piano or Guitar? Taking into consideration the sound and how it is played.

Sorry, Ami, I can't choose. I've started to learn to play both, and love both.

How can I choose between Lord of the Rings or Narnia? That's like asking which kid you like better.

If that's the case then Lord of the Rings is the better child.  Lord of the Rings is everything.

That's tough! I'm a fan of the HP books but I do like the LOTR films a lot, too. And then the Narnia Chronicles have a nostalgic factor with me due to the old BBC series, and they are such charming books.
Title: Re: Random Questionnaires!

The LOTR films are nothing like the books. Read the books- they are infinitely better. The story has so much more depth and character, and the nobility of Tolkien's prose can hardly be matched.

I should add that I have read - and liked - the LOTR novels, too. I just haven't read them in years, so can't properly assess the books against the other two. (If this poll were going by book only, that is.) :)

None of the above? I mean they're all okay. I suppose I'd go for Narnia, but I didn't ever really like the first Narnia book, or the last few.
