Ben's reward seemed more like a punishment, if you ask me. He can't do what he wants. He has to constantly put himself in danger and always be on the run. He can't make friends with anyone or start a family, because he will be a teenager forever while everyone else in the world but his dog dies.

Very easy pick. A normal person.

It seemed like a very weird and unfair thing for the angel to do to him, looking back on it, because they knew he was innocent and yet gave him what seems like a fate worse than death.

Yep, I do agree. Although I've only finished the first book, the second and third books might be different in a plot. Maybe Ben frees himself in the end, I don't know yet.
