Why do you get gagged?

It can be one of several reasons. But the umbrella reason is breaking rules that aren't serious enough to warrant a ban. Like being rude, or editing-out mod edits. But someone would have a warning before being gagged, so it's easily avoidable.

Also, this sort of question would be more at home in the Q&A topic, instead of its own.
