The Ballad of the Last Slice

The Dark Forest and the Gates of Hell,
Both opened up in war.
To seize for each a worthy prize,
That would not be ignored.
For from their grasp on table sat,
A treasure of it's own,
Glazed with honey and meadowcream,
T'was the last slice of cake.

From both gates roared the armies great,
Their ghostly bodies surged,
And surrounded that soft white bread,
For it's possession they were concerned.
Out stepped from the misty crowds,
Two warriors of old,
And at the table they did meet,
Lord Brocktree and Gabool.

How settle this, each thought aloud,
Neither blade nor club shall sway,
For deadbeasts can't and never shall,
Be troubled by such array.
"By insult, and tongue!" The other said "Nay!
For those are useless nigh.
Rather we should fight a lesser war,
Pit my eye against your eye.

And so they began, the badger and rat,
Across from each did fight,
To make the other blink an eye,
While day turned into night.
For many moons and for many suns,
These two beasts battled on,
While the cake that table decorated,
Stayed as prize for whomever won.

The contest of their wild stares was
More tense than bow's string,
And still the creatures battled on,
Through their tears' bitter sting.
Not a word was spake, yet battle waned,
As lids began to droop,
And allies tried to will them on,
But ending would be soon.

The stinging eyes and weary minds
Could stand for this no more,
And as tenth moon rose in the sky,
They closed their seeing door.
From both goodbeasts and the bad was raised a mighty shout,
That theirs had won and other lost
Who truly won they could not tell.
And this ended at great cost.

Gabool went madder than before, and in his rage he did,
Raise up his sword and strike
Upon the prize upon table sat,
While Brocktree did the same.
Gasped then all souls, and silent was
That realm in some abyss.
And on the floor in ruin great,
The remains of sweet baked bliss.

Neither wanting to take the blame,
All fled back to their rest,
And left there to an unknown end,
That cake, still the last.
And from then on, no battle fought,
No creature was there found,
To see that last and fateful piece,
Upon that hidden ground.

Aaaah I'm sorry I'm sorry! It's been nothing short of torture waiting to read it -- it's like having a giant gooey slice of chocolate cake dripping with hot fudge and strawberries sitting on the table in front of me but I can't touch it until all my homework is done. *silent tears of pain* ...erm, should I call an ambulance for those... eye spasms...? D:

Fortunately that situation has been remedied for the weekend! :D *ahem*

Now forgive me for all of the fangirl shrieks bUT THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER! I seriously smiled all the way through, and that cake! THE POOR CAKE HOW COULD THEY DO THAT TO SUCH A PRECIOUS PIECE OF CAKE?? I think this would make a perfect comic! And the part about battles not being fought in dark forest is a really good idea, I think that would be a great premise for any fanfic since you mention it. Did I mention how this would be perfect for a comic? Because it definitely would!

It was so sweet of you to write this for me, thank you so much! It's also very kind of you to offer to do requests for everybody, thank you for that as well!

Title: Poems
Post by: The Skarzs on May 02, 2014, 11:46:16 PM
I can make poems. Yes I can.

Here's a bit of a sad one.

How long, how far, are you today?
Seasons and trials, have driven away,
All we were, all we could be.
Not what we did want.
Now gone, and vanquished, is our love.
No one can put back, what we have lost.
In my heart, I wish to have
And I still long for thee.
Broken, and wasted, and still far away.
Great is the wound that plagues me each day.
Will you wait, to find me come,
Some day back, to you. . .

This is actually a song, not a poem. :P If you have seen this before and wonder where, I had posted it in Wildcat Attack RP.

The Great Froggy's Feast

The froggy lord was getting old
In a place called Riverbog,
And celebration, he did want
That grown-up pollywog.
He sent for both his friends and foes,
To dine with him that day.
They all came 'ere and sitted down,
While they heard him say:
My dearest friends, they heard him croak,
And dearest enemies.
My time is short upon this earth,
And I ask you please,
To join with me at table set,
High stacked with lovely food.
They all did eat, and eat until
A ferret kicked a foot.
Well he did kick (on accident)
And hit a dish of stew,
That landed on an otter's face,
Who said, "Now look here, you,
I've come to eat, not take a bath,
And now you'll have to pay."
He threw a pie that whistled past,
That ferret who did duck.
It flew and landed in a pot
That platted all with stuff.
The yells did start, quite loud at first,
But then they grew to roars.
The whole place opened up into
Massive food-fight wars.
A mouse was hit right off his paws
From a well-placed slice of cake.
A weasel went out with a splat from
A cheese half his own weight.
Midst all this great confusion,
The froggy lord did eat.
He caught a passing turnover,
And a cookie for a treat.
And when that frog did finish,
Upon the table did stand
To be hit with countless food items,
And fall heavily on the land.
He died with his mouth open,
Fillin' it with food,
And the ferret who did start it all
Cried, "This party sure was good."

Ha!

And I really like the turnaround on this phrase:

Quote from: The Skarzs on May 05, 2014, 11:00:06 PMThe yells did start, quite loud at first,
But then they grew to roars.

I read the word "but," and I think you're going to say something about the sound quieting down for some reason. It's really funny to read it suddenly go in the other direction--it redefines the meaning of "quite of loud at first" to "not loud enough."

I like your imagination, and the way the rhythm and rhyme of the poem keep the momentum going. Awesome job!

"Here a Troll. . ."

I watch the seasons all pass by,
As I sit unmoving under the sky.
A troll of stone, no more than a rock,
Here I watch all life go on.

Spring brings flowers that grow at my feet,
All prettily colored and smelling so sweet.
A brook babbles by on it's unending path,
And still I watch all life go on.

The summer sun beats down from above,
White rabbits frolic in fickle young love.
A dragonfly flies over the little cool brook,
Still a troll, watching life go on.

Fall winds cause leaves to fly away,
Twisting and fluttering all through the day.
A late fish jumps in the rapid little stream,
While the troll still watches on.

All life seems still during cold winter white,
Across the land hardly a creature in sight.
The brook lies still, frozen through and through,
And I still watch all life go on.

Having read, "Here a Troll," I love the way that the idea of the narrator continually watching life go on is mirrored thematically by the very construction of the poem (by the repetition of the same idea in the last line of each stanza).

And I love your word choice--the imagery, and the moments of consonance and alliteration ("White rabbits frolic in fickle young love"). And I think the rhyme scheme adds a certain momentum, too. In each stanza, the first two lines propel forward, and then the next two make a sort of cadence.

Lastly, I'm interested in the turnabout with the last four lines. Life seems still, but the narrator is assuring the reader that all isn't as it appears.

I think you have a way with poetry; I like your work!

Thank you, Blazeman.

This is a poem I found in my old notebook, so I decided to post it here.

As a slave you rest not,
Through rain wet or sun hot.
Bend your back to the whip crack
From the morning bright to night black.

Ropes creak and backs ache,
Use your tools until they break.
Dirt, iron, wood and stone,
All grind your paws right to the bone.

Starve, work, starve some more.
Work forever on your chore.
When death is come, you get no grave,
For all this is the life of a slave.

I intended this as something slaves might sing as they work, the rhythm matched to their tools.

Awesome. Here's another.

Some are sad they have nothing at all,
To entertain them like a little wood ball.
They groan and complain about everything,
Wanting more but without satisfaction.
But others are glad they have nothing at all,
Making entertainment without any ball.
The sky and the wind make their life bearable,
Being satisfied with what nature brings them.

This was my siggie; just thought I'd put it up here.

Here alone, my mind all darkened,
Struggling to keep control,
I feel emotion deep inside me,
A monster of rage inside my soul.

Your grave I left such time ago,
Traveling to keep me sane,
Often my thoughts turn back to you,
Why do these memories not wane?
