Title: New Years
Post by: Ashleg on December 31, 2016, 04:19:17 AM
New Years is a special day.
A day where we in different timezones can, by using the Internet, break space and time and speak to one another from different years.

What about aliens, have they found Earth yet? Was there a twenty-third Redwall book after all? Is space travel a thing now? What about time travel? What's it like?!

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. It is the 41st 2nd millennium, For more than a hundred centuries few hours, the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods and master of a million worlds by the might of His inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of Man for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that He may never truly die.Yet even in His deathless state, the Emperor continues His eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst His soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the Tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat to humanity from aliens, heretics, mutants -- and far, far worse. To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

My girlfriend a good friend of mine is at a wedding dancing. My mom is "at a party playing games." There's people watching fireworks in my town- there's a big display by the bridge, I think. I'm alone and lonely. :(

Hopefully 2017 won't suck though. I think the odds of that are at least decent.

Ah well, sorry to be a downer. Happy New Year!

*Presses 'Revive' button*
The new year is coming 'round,
And I hope this last was fun;
In coming hours the world will sound,
And proclaim, 'It has begun'.
I thank you all for letting me
Speak in couplet rhyme,
And despite what this year has us see,
Let's have a grand old time.

Some friends invited us to their house for a get-together along with several other families, just like last year.  There were maybe... five or six families this time and a quantity of kids (every family was a homeschool family).  They have a huge, gorgeous house with an indoor pool.  'Twas fun.  I mainly snacked on stuff and skimmed through some books they had.  Then we watched the ball drop and went home.

Better than 31st December, I suppose. For FIDE anyway (I have found my birthday very useful as people born from September-December, even if they're in the same school year as me, have to play up an age group since FIDE goes by calendar year). But if I get combined Christmas and birthday presents, then somebody born just a week after Christmas, and therefore before me, will as well. Plus it kind of ruins it if everybody else is partying as well.
