So, I think you're all wrong.

This is what happened, gather 'round the fire young ones, whilst I tell my tale of epic proportions...

It was a sunny day, and Cornflower was picking flowers, when suddenly, a horde of vermin comes into sight. Throwing caution and fate to the winds, she snatched up Martin's sword and slew the lot. THEN
She died of old age, because she was 80 seasons when she slew them, and her old bones couldn't support her sword arm much longer...
Em...I like my idea better ;D

The same question could be asked of most of the Badger Lords, the Taggerung, and a bunch of others.  What about the Churchmice?  :P

Yep, there are plenty of other characters that could be questioned in the subject of death, but we'll never really know.

...But it appears that the mystery of Cornflower's death is most ever thrilling ;D

General Ironbeak

Why is this a q?

She doesn't. At least not that we hear of, and I assume that means it's of old age.

Lord Stonepaw

I'm pretty sure it was old age. I can't imagine anything else. If there was something notable BJ probably would have wrote about it.
"He struck for Redwall!
He struck against evil!
He struck for Martin!
He struck for Log-a-Log and his shrews!"
