Why would anyone want to fly in the first place?? I certainly wouldn't want to.

Besides (trying to bring it back on topic before we get put in the naughty corner again), neither hares nor bears can fly.  ;)

The most plausible answer is that they are mythical creatures to those in the Mossflower or Salamandastron area, but they do indeed live off in some distant land.
