Title: A Redwall Holiday
Post by: Matthias720 on September 23, 2011, 02:43:38 PM
As I believe I mentioned early on in the life of the forum, I want do special Redwall-related stuff each February 5th, in honor of Brian Jacques' memory. It recently occurred to me that we should make February 5th into a holiday of some kind, and celebrate it like we would a Nameday.

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

I could write a poem for him.  :)

This is great idea! We could post him on the Birthday board too. Then I could give him 1000000000000000 Kirby cakes!

The picture of Brian at the back of the books shows him wearing a hat. I have one just like that and I love to wear it! So every Feb. 4th I'm going to wear that hat.

We should make it a holiday. But what would we name it?

Brian's Day. Very poignant. :)

Brian's Day might work, or maybe Jacques day. *shrugs* Any other suggestions?

Brian's Day would be easier to remember, seeing as how 'Jacques' is kind of an odd sounding name to some. I will write that poem before February 5th, and I can find some great pictures of him to post here too.

that would be cool but it wouldn't be a very big celebration

Put a large advertisement so that more people see this thread.

Brian's day sounds nice but we might make it have something to do with redwall

I think that would be a great way to honour his memory. A cool way to celebrate off the forum would be to make some Redwall inspired food, then we could share recipes and pictures of the feasts here.

Awesome idea! I only got into Redwall around that time, so it would be a double celebration for me. ;D

How exactly do you plan to do that? ??? :D

Yeah, we could maybe have a thread only open on Brian Day to talk about how awesome he was? I dont know, just a thought. Maybe I should write a poem too

First thing to get correctly here....is this going to be done for his birthday (June 15) or his death date (Feb 5).  I for one feel it more appropriate to do such a  thing on his birthday...a creation date of the man who created Redwall, rather than on the day he died.  Not all will agree of course, but that's the first piece that we should sort out.

I like "Brian's Day" and think it should be about Brian as a person.  Redwall will be a piece of it, but without Brian's abilities we would not have had Redwall. ;)

I want to celebrate on the day of his death to honor his memory. Doing it on his birthday is alright, but I feel that it's more poignant to celebrate on Feb. 5th.

Yeah! Kinda like Camp-meeting or Oshkosh.. :) That would be neat! I love this idea... Brian's Day.. awesome! Did you know though guys.. that how he actually like to have Jacques pronounced as Jakes.. xD no kidding. But it sure had my brain ticking, so it's better to go by Brian :) everyone knows how to pronounce it!

A Redwall holiday would be cool. I think we should celebrate his birthday. We could eat Redwall food and sing songs and recite poems about Redwall and Brian

We could choose a certain time to give him a toast, or shout Eulalia. I remember on Hobbit Day at 9:00 Eastern Time Tolkien Fans gave a toast to Tolkien.

This is a wonderful idea!  Yes...things need finalized, I'm so new here though, I will only read this thread and add a few suggestions of my own.  How about 'Brian Jacques Day' as a name?  That way there will be no confusion as to who is being talked about for outsiders who might hear comments and such about this mysterious new holiday.  :)

Suggestions for activities: posting artwork, stories, poems (some of you mentioned poems already)

If someone could come up with a riddle for everyone else to try and solve would be really fun!

Someone mentioned a powerpoint.  That's a great idea and leaves room for many different powerpoints.

Posting photos of Brian Jacques as was mentioned would be another wonderful activity.  I'd like to post the photo of me with Brian Jacques at the book signing.  :'( such good memories.

Making Redwall food would be a treat for everyone (fun play on words there)  ;)

So is February 5th the day for sure or will it be later?

I'm going to go simple, just make dinner from my Redwall Cookbook on the 5th.  I'll probably make Strawberry Fizz, which I like a lot but don't make very often, Turnip'n'Tater'n'Beetroot Pie, the apple and blackberry cake that Jess Squirrel made in the Summer section, and one other thing to serve as a main dish, not sure what yet.
Oh, and maybe some Loamhedge Nutbread.
