Okay. So I got this idea while I was doing Geometry (go figure) and I decided to put up a changing pole (I'm going to need reminders). Every so often I'm going to change the pole to see who thinks who is better. You will get 1 vote, and CAN change that vote. Every so often I will change the characters in question. Time to start!
I say Mariel because she has Gullwhacker! And she rocks... :-[
Personally I dislike Mariel, and a rope is not exactly the most efficient weapon. Still everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and those opinions are to be respected.
Well, I think Marial is good. But so is Dandin.

Arula.
Samkim was nice, but he was a rather typical Redwall hero, whereas I thought Arula was a little more fresh and original.
Uh how? And besides, Redwall was young then, what order did you read the books in!?
I read Salamandastron about in the middle.
He just wasn't particularly memorable to me. Part of it was that Salamandastron wasn't one of my favorite books either, but all the same, Samkim just didn't have the same feel as, say, Martin the Third (or Second, as he's usually called). I think he felt a bit too simple to me. Rather like Dannflor, he didn't seem cut out for the part he was given, and that tends to turn me away from those characters. Arula seemed to fir much better.
Well thank you ever so much for the insult! I'm going to have to restrain myself from using smileys since I'd just start exchanging insults if I did.

I also liked having to read half of all that was said during Arula and Samkim's scenes in mole-speak. ;D

I vote Gingivere. If we were going by who would win in a fight, Tsarmina, totally. But as far as characters go, I like Gingivere rather a lot. He was a cool dude.
Gingivere. He's pretty clever. Remember when Ferdy starts sneezing, Ginivere covers for him by pretending he's sick? And he helps develop the rescue plan. Plus his pretending to be insane terrifies Tsarmina.
Gingivere is quietly clever and a good guy.
Tsarmina is almost as clever and a bad guy.

Lantur is a wimp who can't fight (that we know of) and Mokkan is MUCH more sly than her (sly is the ONLY thing that Lantur is good at)

You desperately need to read the Long Patrol, and Marlfox! He was abbey champion, and stand in Abbot! He was funny, he was smart, he was awesome! Tansy didn't do much. She was a secondary character.
He was full-time abbot for three seasons.

Urthwyte. I'm not a huge fan of either (they just don't stand out to me that much), but Urthwyte was more interesting because of his coloring.
I'm not sure, it's like you said. They didn't really stand out...

He was less childish, in the book, when you see Urthwyte for the first time he actes more like a child.
Urthstripe was a pretty good leader overall. Cool dude, just not terribly interesting.

Urhtwyte to me was good but he wasn't a fully devleoped character as Urthstripe was.
Urthwyte is decent for a badger, in my opinion. You have to admit that he's strong, though that's true for most badgers.
I like Urthstripe better cause he's a great warrior but also tries to be a good father. Like Orlando. Maybe Urthwyte would've been a good father too, dunno...

I voted Bragoon. I thought he was very kindly, if not the most educated. Although with these two its barely worth picking one or the other. They were best friends and a sort of platonic soulmate to each other. They go best as a team, just like how they died, paw in paw.

I haven't read the one about ferhago for awhile so I'm really not sure, if I remember correctly he lead his own little force when attacking and would have had plenty of time to get away with a good force, I could be remembering wrong though

Because a lot of people like Gingivere, that's the whole point of this poll, it kind of reflects how the people on the forum are on average as far as characters and other such things go, each poll helps define us one step more. ;)

Personally, Gingivere was a bit of a weak character. So, Tsarmina was a "better" character, in a way. She is definitely *not* my favorite villain, but she is a good one. ;)
