Title: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on September 29, 2014, 03:32:13 AM
I have finally been able to upload items to the internet so I can post them here; yay!
Alright, so first off, I was having some fun with a paint program.

Decent enough?

Next, this is Kaylan from Wildcat Attack RP.

Here is part of the cast of Shade's steampunk roleplay, but contains characters from the current one as well.
(http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/The_Skarz/Steampunk001_zpse371ea9f.jpg~original)From left to right, there is: Dregnar, Arya, Vlad, and Vicky.

This is The Overwatch, from my fan fiction of the same title.

Lastly, we have a drawing of a sunset I drew. I was sitting on the side of a hill, and thought "You know, that would make an awesome picture." ;D
(http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/The_Skarz/Forest001_zpsb3e93f0b.jpg~original)

Sorry for the problems; I'm just getting started on this.
Anyways, that's some of my art. I'll be happy to do requests, and hear what you think about what I've drawn. :)

Looks great! I like Overwatch the best!

BTW to make them bigger just take ~c100 off the end of your urls. :D

Not to overwhelm you with requests or anything, but when you have the time, could you possibly draw my RP tournament character, Perrian Thrust, as well?  (I'd give you his sheet right now, but as Brooky hasn't posted it yet, I'll just wait and let her do so.  Wouldn't want to spoil the surprise now, would we?  ;))

Thanks! I had a different design for the armor, but I scrapped it for something more true to real but equally intimidating. ;) (Plus, Argunath is by far my favorite character, so I had to do a good job on him)

Actually, instead of something from that, can I ask you to do a sketch of something not too Redwall related?

resquest
The request is a sketch of Notre Dame de Chartres, a cathedral in France and one of the world's largest and most famous. In the sketch, could you draw it from a far distance and through some wheat fields or something similar to that (I have some examples below). The cathedral is known for being visible from miles and miles away because it's built on a great, open plain where people grow crops like wheat or colza (a small yellow flower that grows very widely and covers farmlands like snow). The cathedral itself won't have to be very detailed, since we are looking at it from quite a distance away. You could even just make it a silhouette like shown below in another picture. Could you make this work? Oh, and if you do, could you remove any power lines, cars, rail guards and such? fences, hay bails and dirt roads are just fine, though! Anyway here are the pictures that gave me this idea:(http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag195/Captain_Tammo/chartresWFfar_zpsf458658f.jpg) (http://s1368.photobucket.com/user/Captain_Tammo/media/chartresWFfar_zpsf458658f.jpg.html)

Also, I have some art for display.
First, here is Perrian Thrust, Rainshadow's RP T character asked for by Rainshadow.

Next I have the cathedral sketch requested by Captain Tammo.

Sorry for the poor quality, but I couldn't get into this one for some reason. :(

Third, and lastly, a portion of the cast from Faiyloe's Forbidden Truce, on request by Faiyloe herself.
So many darned squirrels. . . o~O From left to right there is Orvil (the bigger otter), Donavin, and David, then Lady Bryony, Caldroc, Arya, and Grace. Hopefully that wasn't too hard to understand. ;) Oh, and of course, the indispensable Zuzucath in the background, spurring the two groups into conflict. ;D

I don't mind whether you do Svek on a separate sheet but it would be preferable to have the Mabon brothers on one sheet (preferable but not mandatory)
Right.

Do you have any advice about drawing? I'm trying to draw well, but I just can't get the hang of it.
Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on December 15, 2014, 09:04:42 PM
Sure, I can give you a couple pointers. :)
For drawing people (and I use this for Redwall characters as well) the body is 7-8 heads tall, for proportion. The legs are also always longer than the arms, though I have ignored that with my troll drawings.
When trying to give something the appearance of thickness, shading is an important part, as well as perspective: A point at which light comes from is also a great help. The side away from the light is the darkest, and the side nearest is lightest, often with a point on which the light shines most directly. Roundness in nature can be achieved by texture, like drawing curved lines along the edges to give something a round, ball-like shape. This texture and/or shading will become lighter as it moves away from the edges and into the object, disappearing more or less when it reaches the light source.
Shape is an crucial addition. There are three types: Geometrical, organic, and free-form. A circle is a geometric form, a leaf is an organic one, and free-form is like drawing a blob of mashed potatoes. All drawings come from basic shapes.
Using shapes, one can use them to begin sketches. I like using ovals or an outline to start with; I draw ovals for limb segments to get basic shapes upon which I can build upon. With these it is easier to create stances before getting too far into the drawing to fix it easily.
Colors. Colors are good to have, even if you're using just pencil. They give character to the drawing, and attract the eyes. With pencil different colors can be achieved by different mediums of color, yellow being the lightest and blue being the darkest.
Perspective is a necessity. Things get smaller as they get further away, as well as becoming less clear and lighter in color. When drawing a landscape, that which is directly in front of you is vivid and dark, whereas a mountain will be dim and pale.
Texture can be a great addition, making something look rough like bark with dark and light strokes of the side of the pencil, or soft like fur by making a bunch of little strokes.
Hopefully that helps!

Also, I found a tuxedo that finally fits me.

Not bad, the biggest critique I would give to this would be Vatra's left arm. She looks like she stuck her sleeve in bleach for.... two years.  ::) It's stock stiff, and so are her fingers. Other than that, I thought it was quite well done, including most of the other joints. Maybe a slightly shorter neck on Jantar, and maybe try to hint the Arya x Ushen a little. ^-^ I have a question, what are the two specks? There's a blue one right under Ervoyce's belt, and a black one just above the right-side plant.
Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on December 26, 2014, 09:42:25 PM
Wasn't sure what to do with that arm; I suppose I could have made the joint more pronounced, but it's a bit late now.
Jantar's neck might be a bit long, but if you notice, real foxes' necks aren't exactly short.
As for the Arya x Ushen, I felt like having two couples in the same picture would ruin it. I also wanted to show how close Bryant and Ushen are as siblings, as well as Arya's personality.

Ah yes. . . the dots of death. :P Take a look on every picture I have up: There are only a few that don't have those dots. The problem lies with the scanner: There is a little bit of blue and black stuck somewhere on the scanner window that I cannot find nor remove. I've washed it before, but I think my las choice will be to take a razor blade to it in an attempt to scrape it off.

EDIT:  Eyyyyy, Skarzsy-chan, I was wondering if you could do a likkle drawring for me?  I can't post the description quite yet, 'cause I'm gonna go watch TV with mah family, but basically it's two original characters of mine that are foli (half-elf, half-human), but if you don't wanna draw them as that, I can always make them Redwall animals.  (Just hafta decide what animals they'd be...)

Fire away, Rain! I'd be happy to try a foli, though I have no idea how they look, and my interpretation might not be what you want.

Basically, a folas (folas is singular, foli is plural) looks like a Lord of the Rings elf, only with a bit less of flawless skin.  (As in, they can still have freckles and wrinkles and such, but they don't look entirely human.)  The reason why I say that a half-elf looks like a LOTR elf is 'cause the pure-blooded elves in my universe look... different.  I'd go in depth with that statement, but I don't really wanna at the moment.  :P

My request
Adam Harrison
Name:  Adam Celor Harrison

Gender:  Male

Age:  18

Species:  Folas (half elf, half human)

Physical appearance:  Adam's a rather lean and tall folas, being about six feet tall with a very thin, slightly fragile frame.  His skin is extremely pale, and his eyes are a cold icy blue in colour, but are quite kind and soft.  His hair is dark, dark brown with white locks sprinkled in, and it hangs just a bit past his shoulders, with bangs parting from the right side of his head to the left.  Usually his hair is tied in a short braid, although he can be found putting it in a bun when he's trying to study.

Clothing:  Adam's usual attire consists of an olive green elven tunic with gold thread on the collar, and he has a baggy sweater that's held shut by a knot on the bottom hem, which ends at his hips.  His trousers are tan, and he has light brown boots, as well as a grey scarf wrapped loosely around his neck.

Personality:  Loyal and hardworking, Adam Harrison is definitely a person you can trust.  He is, however, quite shy, and when conversing with strangers, he doesn't typically speak unless he's asked a question.  He's brought out of his shell a bit when he's around Tani, though.  Still shy, but he can be known to speak a little.
[close]
Tani Alethia
Name:  Tania Lynn Alethia

Gender:  Female

Age:  18

Species:  Folas

Physical appearance:  Tani is a short folas with a little bit of visible muscle.  She's about 5'3", and her stature isn't all too uncommon for a folas: narrow shoulders, smaller than average breasts, and she's not all that curvy.  Her skin is dark olive in tone, and she has black hair styled in a short bob, parted on the left side of her head.  As for the face, Tani's nose is round, her lips are almost always forming a smile, and her eyes are slightly angled, being a startling orangy-red in colour.

Clothing:  Tani's clothing is quite simple to explain: an orange capped-sleeve shirt, a black button-up vest, dark grey leggings that stop just a bit below the knees, a black short skirt, and dark brown work boots.  She also has several earrings on each ear: two small hoops in the lobe of each ear, but with an added stud near the pointed tip of her left ear.

Personality:  Tani is known for being cocky and stubborn, with a side of mischief.  Added to this is a short temper, which makes for extremely terrifying outbursts when she's mad.  Other than that, though, the folas is a very friendly girl, but is prone to teasing others and accidentally insulting them.

In case you don't know what a capped-sleeve shirt is:

Could you possibly draw Tani playfully teasing Adam, which makes him uncomfortable?  Or, y'know, something along those lines?

That's creepily awesome, and pretty much how Tyrull looks. Well, his horns point upwards more and he has spikes on his shoulders, elbows and knees and a giant black cape and he wields a greatsword

Thinking about it, could you draw Tyrull? With an aura of power around him? In a fighting pose? Possibly using some form of magical attack?

Tyrull Sounds Like He Has Some Good Taste. But Does He Have Smoke Pouring From His Every Joint?

Shut up, OOM.

Sure, I'll do that! It might not be what you expect, but we'll see how it turns out.

You know I liked him better before... when you could control him. Why did we release him on the world again?

Awesome; I'm glad you like it. I had some trouble thinking up a design for the armor (specifically the helmet), but after a bit of playing around with it I think I got one of my best designs. :)

And Tyrull's pretty darn awesome himself, too.  That armour...  ;D  (And I just noticed the sword.  That sword... I WANT IT!)

Any chance you could draw a character for me? He's human, but he doesn't exactly have a face.

Name: Kara'yan Ad'ash'eel Bal'shala Deoca'hama (Rarely calls himself by his name, usually uses the alias Mask, Masked, Enigma, or... Something else which I have forgotten.)
Species: Human
Age: Very old. Six hundred years or more. Due to pretech genetic modifications, he will never age to the point where his body begins to deteriorate.
Personality: Calm, collected, knowledgeable, blunt with people he knows. Diplomatic, silvertongued. Never casual. Nobody really knows more than that, because he conceals everything.
Physical appearance: Slightly more heavyset than is average, slightly taller as well. Very imposing. Dresses in black clothing that fits fairly tightly, with what is almost coat tails hanging down from his lower back to about his knee. and black woven body armor composed of multiple polymers and composite alloys to protect against more basic attacks, this armor is fairly unobtrusive. It takes the form of slightly lighter pads along his chest, legs, and arms, is similar in appearance to shinguards that people might wear for soccer/football. He wears a mask on his face, the mask is white and black with angular features. It doesn't cover his mouth, but has a fang-like pattern on either side of his mouth. It also has a black reflective visor instead of eye holes.

Could you do Grand Commander Tymek?

Name: Grand Commander Tymek of the Daaniin fleet
Age: 42
Rank/Job: Grand Commander of the Daaniin fleet
Bio: N/A
Physical Appearance: He has long light grey hair and green eyes
Clothing/Armour: He wears all over white armour (think storm trooper plastic) with massive pauldrons and a white cape, the armour is trimmed in black. His helmet looks like a white EVA helmet from Halo with a black visor, he rarely wears it. (Not worn in picture)
Weapon(s): A sword that resembles this (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/173/3/b/mulan_s_sword_by_navex_sniper-d6a8e3j.png) but the gold bits are silver and the blade glows white as well as two of the same pistols as Zalias has
Non-offensive equipment: N/A
Skills: Expert strategist, accomplished swordsman

In regards to the pistols
QuoteHis pistol resembles a completely black mauser c96

But the pistols aren't really necessary in the drawing

Hey I know you probably have a bunch of requests right now but if you don't mind squeezing one more in I'd like a group sketch to be done of the characters from my RP,

If possible I'd like them all standing together.

Characters

I'd Like Cailoh standing in the middle of the group.

Name: Cailoh/His friends usually call him Cai
Species: Mouse,
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Appearance: A normal sized for his age with dark eyes and light brown fur. He has and extra long tail which often gets in his way.
Clothes: A green novice habit with a black girdle and brown sandals.

I'd like Rowan standing on Cailoh's right.

Name: Rowan
Species: squirrel
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Appearance: dark brown fur that's almost black, green eyes. Has a big, bushy tail. Very short, but fast and surprisingly strong for a squirrel her size.
Clothes: a green novice habit with a brown girdle and no sandals

And Liko on Cailoh's left

Name: Liko Mistpaw
Species: Otter
Gender: Male
Age: 15 and a half
Appearance: Normal otter with large eyes and a never ending laugh on his face.
Clothes: Green novice habit black Girdle no sandals

That's all of them, I hope you can do it.

Sweet! Could you do my character Luis Vonil from the Robin Hood RP, I'll put his character sheet up here in a moment. Also could I request a swaggering pose.

Edit Here's his sheet.

Name: Luis Vonil A.K.A Captain Voc
Race: Ferret
Gender: Male
Age: 23

Appearance: Luis is a lithe handsome creature with a visage that seems to radiate his crafty self-interest. His eyes are pitch black and a roughish gleam shines out of them. His fur is gray and light brown with his natural mask having a darker color. He wears a tan jerkin and a black naval coat. He goes bare pawed and bare headed though a blue handkerchief he wears around his neck makes an excellent covering when needed. At his hip is a sheathed cutlass with a plain hilt and scabbard. The blade itself isn’t particularly special, and is simply a convenient tool.

History:
Long
Luis Vonil was at one point the son of a rich merchant sailing with his father on the fine vessel Seashell While onboard Luis was raised as a gentle beast, something that did not match his demeanor. For Vonil was a wild creature with a sense of adventure. He was constantly getting in trouble and insulting his father’s important guests and business partners.

During one of their voyages Luis’s father perished in a storm leaving Luis his fortune and vast warehouses of valuable trade. All of which Luis began wasting on excessive parties, fine company, strong drink, and bad trade agreements. More than one beast took advantage of the gullible young trader and soon Luis was out of money. Unperturbed he sold his last ship, fired the crew and went to talk with the southern coast’s lord. Being a foolish creature Luis got tipsy an insulted the landlord and his family. The lord ordered him to be arrested, but when the marshal came forward to seize the young vagabond he was stabbed by a bread knife. When the lord’s guards came forward to seize the new criminal Luis ran, albeit rather clumsily back to where his crew were staying in a tavern. Telling them he had bought a new ship and had rehired them.

Cheering his crew dashed out onto the Warf and boarded their ‘new’ ship, a fine thing called the His Royal Pleasure. As they sailed out onto the main, when one of the cooks discovered an unloyal counterpart down in the hold counting out supplies, and eventually the whole story came out. Luis had in one day managed to steal the southern lord’s best ship, wound his marshal, and worst of all insulted the royal.

After only one day at sea the crew decided to turn around and tell the lord how they had been tricked, while turning in Vonil. Hoping to gain the lord’s pardon. And as much as Luis disagreed they made their plans reality by turning the ship around. Upon the sighting of land and a full squadron of angry guards Luis jumped overboard and swam along the coast. His crew didn’t give chase and sailed the ship up to the Warf where they were all taken prisoner. Luis managed to swim up to a hidden inlet where a team of guards who had been watching his progress captured him. He was taken into custody and branded as a pirate with a large P on his left wrist.

However Luis managed to escape with a small stroke of luck, he rescued some of his crew and re-stole the ship His Royal Pleasure Renaming it the Masked Luck Luis made a name for himself as a notorious thief, a capable sailor, and a deadly pirate. All under the name Captain Voc.

After a few long seasons of pirating Luis, now Voc, discovered the Infamous Rouge Crew had him in their sights and were chasing him down. As was a very angry Southern lord. Then he was informed that a mutiny was closing in on him from some of his trusted crewbeasts. Deciding the ocean wasn’t in his best interests anymore Luis jumped ship as the Rouge Crew, and the Southern lord, and the crew enacted they’re attack. It was believed that he had died in the battle that ensued however it was never confirmed.

In reality he had swam to shore and decided to travel inland and be away from the sea for a while. After hearing a story about the lavish Northlands Luis decided to travel there to see if one really could pull gold out of the rivers. He is now walking down the paths close to Newhorn searching for his evidently nonexistent treasure.

Title: Skarzs' Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on March 24, 2016, 02:26:25 AM
I've been meaning to start this topic since the old forum went down, but I haven't wanted to start it when I had nothing new to show for it. But now, I've finally finished a drawing that has taken forever to do because of when I was able to do it. It is my original roleplaying character: the cougar Argunath.
Spoiler
(http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/The_Skarz/twofaced_zps9ctrseej.jpeg)
I'm showing both his lighter, happier side with his close companion [and love] Elmeath, as well as the part of him he keeps within, the Bloodwrath inflicted side that he can let out as he needs to to defeat enemies. Were it not for Elmeath, though, he may stay in his berserk state for hours until he goes unconscious, and if she were to die, it may become even more dangerous.

(.75 of full size.)

Here's a picture I had previously drawn of him during his fights in the Wildcat Attack RP.

So. . . Yeah.

If you want a request, it's first come first served. However, I would like only one request at a time, as my schedule is busy, I have little time for drawing nowadays, and I have no guarantees as to when requests will be finished.

I HAVE A REQUEST

Could you do my OC/fursona Ashton Hawker?

Details
Name: Ashton Hawker
Species: Fox
Description: Tall and thin (think one of Rain's skinny OCs :D ), has light brown fur, has a white stripe in the middle of his face, and has blue eyes. If you draw hair, it's light brown with bangs. :P I think you've seen it before.

I just gave the basic info so you could draw him in whatever sort of pose you wish. Let me know if you'd rather have specifics!

I must admit, drawing hedgehogs in my style is hard. . . Considering what they look like in real life. Very round, spiky, and in some cases ugly. But thank you.

Hey Skarzs, would you be willing to draw one of my old RP characters? I rather liked him, and I think you'd do a good rendering. I'm collecting sketches as it were, right now.

Spoiler
Name: Dannilo "Dann" Thann
Species: Wildcat
Gender: Male
Age (in years): 25
Weapon(s) of choice: Daggers, Rapier
General Description: Dann is a ginger tabby wildcat of medium build. He has bright, merry blue eyes and a dazzling smile. He wears a bright red tunic, a green cloak and a green cap set at a jaunty angle with a feather in the back. He wears tall soft boots. In his belt are tucked four perfectly balanced throwing daggers, and a rapier hangs from his side. Alongside the rapier is his most prized possession, a blue crystal lute. He wears a pouch with some coins tucked into it. He also owns a fiddle, which he keeps in the wagons.
Personality: Dann is a merry beast- he's most often found smiling, laughing, and/or singing. He loves life with all his heart and his philosophy could be summed up as, "I'm along for the ride, so I might as well enjoy it!" He is a social beast, and loves to mingle, talk, and perform... And charm all the ladies while he's at it, of course. He doesn't really have a strong moral code, but he is a good person and tries to treat people well. This doesn't stop him from occasionally picking a few pockets for fun, though, when he thinks someone deserves it. He doesn't value wealth, considering it mainly a burden, and loves to travel and sing.
Other information: Dann is a bard by trade, singing and performing tricks, such as juggling, knife throwing, card tricks, etc. for his supper.

*Squeals* that is awesome. XD those brows. I also really like the way you did the fabric. I might start using that stitching pattern you used on Burian's cloths in some of my own stuff... with your permission of course. XP

The only thing I would point out is that Ravax looks a bit stiff and masculine. (Just a bit, It is still really awesome XD) I know you have said you struggle with drawing girls, and in the animal form, it is even harder... XP trying to make it look like an animal yet still feminine. I would make her shoulders narrower or pull the small of the back in a bit to emphasise the bone structure (rib cage and hips). I know you hate making people uber skinny (I personally have been going on a trend of drawing fuller women, if you want I can give you some tips later)

Thanks! And yeah, you can use it. It is used on the old ages clothes, so that's where I got it from.

Looking at Ravax now, you're right. My bad. The stance I drew her in was awkward to draw, which is why she looks stiff.
As for her femininity, part of why I have a hard time drawing female characters is because I am worried if I make them too. . . curvy? I may fall down a dark path of my art that I swore never to do.
Of course, I want to improve my art, and this is a shortcoming of mine, so I want to practice it but am hesitant to.

Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on December 26, 2017, 02:43:04 AM
I have noticed that my art came to what is known as an "okay plane." I have come to a point where I am okay with my art, and have made no effort to improve and evolve my art.
It's the same reason that bad drivers tend to stay bad drivers- They were good enough to pass the driver's test, but have not gotten much better afterwards save for learning from mistakes. If they wanted to, they could become the best racers or stunt drivers in the world.

So that is why I am posting this. I am looking to improve my art by exploring areas I don't usually go into, which will hopefully make my art the best it can be without taking classes- Have to stay out of my comfort zone.
In an effort to accomplish this, I have begun by looking at form, and the differences that. . . make all the difference. And if you read the last few posts before this, that is what spurred me to this: The differenes of male and female form in the Redwall animals as I see them.

I based the body forms of my exercise on what I learned in a previous drawing class of the proportional human body.
-The overall height is seven to eight heads tall.
-Fingers reach the mid-thigh.
-Arms are ALWAYS shorter than the legs.

You will see lines that I used as central points, as well as a way of creating good posture. On humans, the ears, the shoulders, the inner curve of the spine, and the ankles are all aligned. I had to do some guestimations, especially on the legs, to make them stand in a way that makes the most sense to me for good posture.

First off, I started with the male form of a generic mouse.
Spoiler
(https://i.postimg.cc/5NPYzb2W/Scan-10.jpg)
(Usually) For males:
-Shoulders are somewhere between two and a quarter to three heads wide.
-Thicker neck that continues almost straight down from the sides of the head.
-There is little to no hip.
-Trapezoidal muscles make a rounder transition from the neck to shoulders.
-Thighs almost touching at the crotch.
-Knees a little more knobbly, and further apart.

Just to add a little more noticable masculinity, I made the male a little thicker overall.
[close]

Next, I went on to the average female form- A place I feel I have fallen short on.
Spoiler
(https://i.postimg.cc/MKZfXvxY/Scan-16.jpg)
(Usually) For females:
-Shoulders are somewhere between two to two and a half heads wide.
-Thinner neck from males that comes in from the sides of the head before going down.
-Smaller trapezoidal muscles that make more of a right angle between the shoulder and the neck.
-Thinner waist this is higher above the hips than males.
-Wider hips than males.
-Thighs have a gap at the crotch.
-Knees thinner and closer together than males.

To make this form a little more feminine, I made them a little slimmer overall than the male, with more slender limbs.

If this is just as awkward for you to see as it was for me to draw, I'm sorry. :P :P Oof.
[close]

I am still experimenting with drawing the legs to be more realistic. Since I make the legs have the two middle joints, this makes it a little more challenging to create rules I can refer to. I may change the lower segment of the legs to be shorter, but I think this current form is an improvement to my previous one until I do.

Next I decided to try my hand at drawing heads. Once again, these were just experiments.
For the heads I used some of the measuring rules from my drawing class for drawing heads. . . At least, human heads. Most of them could not be applied to mouse heads (the heads I used for this exercise). The guidlines I used were:
-Eyes are centered in the head.
-Heads are about five eyes wide.
-Heads are never completely round.

Once again, lines were used to help maintan proportion and relative symmetry.

In addition to seeing what I could do with male and female heads, it proved interesting to experiment with average, thin, and fat heads.

Here are both the male and female heads.
Spoiler
(https://i.postimg.cc/Z5BRyNQ6/Scan-10.jpg)
On males, there are some differences in humans that can still apply to this.
-Male heads are usually larger overall than females'.
-Males usually have a squarer jaw with a larger mouth.
-Larger nose.
I also made the bridge of the nose/muzzle convex, and the eyes a little squarer.

Females usually:
-Have smaller, rounder heads than males.
-Smaller noses.
-Narrower chins, and smaller mouths.
-The jaw is not as defined.
I made the bridge of the nose/muzzle concave, and the eyes more almond-shaped.
[close]

It was fun trying to make the differences with the heads, especially with the various. . . weights, so to say.

Overall this has been a good experience for me. I think I can more confidently make characters of different gender stick out from one another now, and create even more realistic drawings.

If there's anything you guys see that you think I should change or improve on, let me know. Keep in mind these were pretty quick sketches, so not everything is a final form, so to speak.
Hopefully it wasn't too awkward to look at the body forms. :P I tried not to go over the top; just enough to show the physical differences.

Much muscles. What mouse normally has that many muscles?? Also your legs look. . Slightly odd, but I think practice would make perfect there. Again, though, very muscle-y. Mice usually have tiny stick-thin legs. Other than that, pretty good. :)

They look good. Just a note about thigh gap. Not all women have it. Most larger women don't, but if you are drawing skinny women then yes... I don't know if skinny guys have thigh gap. XP. Also a note on the waist. The curvature comes from the larger hips in comparison to the ribcage. the waist does not get smaller after the ribcage ends unless a restrictive corset is being worn. It wasn't too obvious in your drawing but it is just something to keep in mind.

Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on February 22, 2018, 11:29:02 PM
In continuing my efforts to improve, I remembered I have done very little drawing with motion in it. So I decided to try something with some good movement.

Dancing!

The posture and position of the limbs is important to give the illusion of movement, like feet that aren't in the most stable position for standing, but only because it is between steps. The tail on the mouse was originally hanging down, but it looked too stagnant, so I changed it to look as if it is swinging a bit. Clothing that is flowing to one side, like on the female squirrel, also helps with this in showing the direction they are moving.
The male mouse seems a bit stiff to me, unfortunately, and that may be how straight his back is. If I had drawn him leaning back a little it probably would have looked a bit less motionless.
This also brings to light another shortcoming of mine in how limbs can sometimes look as stiff as a board. Joints are not always straight. In fact, they're bent most of the time, even when resting. Just one more exercise to work on.

Any comments or critiques are appreciated!

Drawing him bent slightly forward would be more realistic, actually. Also squirrel tails are generally more curved.

Don't call me Skarzsles.

To anyone who doesn't get it, Kade has a signature move of dodging basically anything, and I can only imagine him doing the roll dash like Link from the Zelda games. So that's Kade, as Link, impossobly dodging some kind of attack that should otherwise kill him.

Also, thanks, Eb and Seb. It's just a quick sketch. . . I didn't spend too much time on it.

If you don't want to I could always ask Rosie to do it.
Spoiler
Name: Fern
Gender: female
Species: Wildcat
Age: Sixteen in human years
Appearance: Fern is not quite fully grown. She has green eyes and sandy-brown fur with darker markings on her face and body. She wears a green tunic that ends just above her knees, a broad leather belt with a dagger and sheath on it, and brown leggings. She does also have a green cloak similar to that of a Marlfox, but she doesn't have to be wearing it in your drawing.
Weapon(s): Dagger, bow and arrows
I don't really mind what you draw her doing, but I would prefer it if she wasn't smiling.

I know you don't draw in colour but I've said what colours her clothes etc. are just in case it is in any way helpful.

Oooh, me likey!

The matching movement is pretty good. (Very good, actually) I think it would look slightly more natural if the fox's right footpaw came forward a bit more and he leaned closer to his opponent. The way his back is arched gives the impression that he's pulling back but the fact that his weight is positioned above the front paw seems to indicate the opposite. I really like the shading you've done and the clothes everybeast is wearing look great. (Though the lack of shirts doesn't bother me too much. I've spent enough time around Ebby's littlest brother that I'm just glad they have trousers on. *grins*)

For the footpaws, lots of experimenting. I'm still not quite satisfied with what I have, but I'm getting better.
As for the hands, I look up pictures with hands in the positions I want or model them with my own hand, and copy them. That's part of why I have a hard time making feminine hands. ;D :P

It was a good practice for me trying to draw a character slimmer and younger than I tend to do, as well as drawing a female character. I really like the stance I gave her. Hopefully her facial expression is along the lines of what you wanted.

Okay! here!
I made this character for my friend, thus why the thingy-me-jigger has colour, and I thought it might help with shading and stuff...

The Thingy-me-jigger
Name: Liry
Species: squirrel
Age: 13 sessions
Appearance: light brown fur with creamy white markings, dark green eyes, and a white flower marking on her ear.
Cloths: a dark gray dress with baggy sleeves, and a lether belt and a cloak with a lily clasp.
Weapon: a sling, a dager and a short sword
Personality: cheeky, headstrong, loyal, friendly

I mean, Redwall is in a medieval time, and in that time girls that age would probably be married already....just sayin'....also Ebby has a bow, a dager and I don't know what her other weapons she has, and that's perfectly normal over here...

Clothing: A long sleeved pink shirt with a white t-shirt overtop and jeans
Demeanor: Awkward but cheerful

Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: Rosie Willowwater on April 27, 2020, 11:22:03 PM
Haha, sorry. I thought that was too few descriptors but I was blanking on what to add xD

She isn't skinny but not heavy set. Somewhere in a healthy middle, I guess?
Her face is sort of oval-ish round with a rounded chin as well.
Her hair is straight and parted in the middle of her head.
Her eyebrows are the opposite of bushy, and they don't really extend past the outer side of the eyes (as opposed to mine which extend quite far past).

Does that help?

Name: Ironspear.
Age: 30-40
Appearance: A broad shouldered wildcat with green eyes. Fairly muscular arms and torso. Tall.
Clothing: A set of thick, heavy armor with a grey cloak. Carrying a solid iron spear.
Demeanor: Perhaps smiling slightly, or otherwise very serious/mysterious.

@Sebias of Redwall I finally got Ironspear done.

After looking at your original request, I forgot to put in the cloak originally. So after hastily drawing in the cloak (one of the advantages of pencil drawings), I got it done for real.
But if you want to see what it looked like before, here he is without the cloak.

This isn't Redwall related art, but I plan to do art in this medium. I got a drawpad as a gift, and have only just sat down to use it. For my first two sketches, I think they're pretty good.
At first I was going to go all-out and try a face, but then I realized it would probably be better if I went back to basics, since digital art isn't something I've done before. So, here's a simple shape, with some rough shading.
Sphere
(https://i.postimg.cc/2y07sK6B/firstsphere.png)
[close]
Aaaand with my confidence built up, I tried my hand at a realistic human body, using a bottom layer, later removed, as a base on which I could trace out a more natural shape. My next step for something like this would be to add another layer for shading and color, and maybe even remove the lines totally. Slightly scandalous? Maybe? I don't think so.

Cool!  The sphere's shadow has an outline around it, but other than that I think you did a nice job with the shading.  I like the slight light wrap on the dark side of the sphere too.  No idea how accurate that is since art isn't my forte, but it looks nice ;D

A draped, nice! Digital medium takes a bit of getting used to, but the right program can make a difference. What program did your drawpad come with?

I use a tablet, myself, and use GIMP and openCanvas. Sometimes, when I'm sketching with pencil and paper, I'll make a mistake and spend half a tic wondering where the Undo button is XD

Thank you both.
I'm really enjoying the digital medium. I've been wanting to make colored art for some time, but I've never liked colored pencils. This allows for so much elbow room with what I can do, and it makes it easier to transfer all online. Not only that, but it's opening the doors for me to start a webcomic.

I just never want to stretch for new ideas and end up killing my own brand, much like big brands comics that run out of ideas and try to outdo themselves over and over. It's how everything eventually gets into universe-ending threats, time travel, alternate universes, and so on. It gets bland.

Yes there is. I'd eventually like to make it into a comic, so I'm kind of hesitant to tell all about it. But, I have drawn Argunath many times in the past on here.
In this picture he is fighting a tiger wielding a katana, and it's one of the most difficult battles he has ever had, since he rarely needed to fight anyone his size, let alone bigger than him.

That's a really neat plot idea, cause most often, the protagonist starts off weak, and unable to do anything, but I feel like the opposite of that, and the characters feelings during it would actually be really interesting to follow. I look forward to seeing what you do with this!
Title: Re: Skarz's Sketches
Post by: The Skarzs on April 27, 2023, 06:03:57 PM
Thanks! I like the idea myself. In an analogy it would be like someone being very smart during primary school and then finding as they get older they may not be as smart as they think, and can either face those challenges to become stronger or give up in despair.
Argunath faces many different kinds of enemies, ones he can easily overcome, ones who have ways to defeat his fighting style despite being smaller and weaker, ones who are more skilled, etc.
