Could've meant Norway, Maine. Probably other Norways as well. (after all, USA steals place names more than English (whatever the dialect) steals words from other languages)

As far as I know, Scandinavia is made up of Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, and Norway. I think.

But French isn't like English at all. English is a bunch of words half stolen from other languages and half made up, like a trade lingo or something.
