Title: A Remarkable Redwall Readalong Event!
Post by: Rosie Willowwater on August 09, 2020, 07:31:20 PM
Hey everyone!

Welcome to the RACF's first Full-Series Redwall Readalong Event! We will be reading through all 22 books over the course of the next year or so. Our hope is to give you all an exciting new opportunity to discuss and analyze the Redwall books together in more depth and if (like me) you haven't read the entire series before, this event might be the perfect time to try and take the big step! There will be an announcement posted here every three weeks announcing the next book we are going to read, and every announcement is a new opportunity to join in.

Duration
On August 16th (next Sunday) we will be announcing the first book to be read. Every three weeks, we will begin reading a new book in the General Discussion board. If you wish to continue discussing a certain book after the three weeks are over, or want to join in discussion of a book you have already read but don't want to read it again for this event, feel free! This is a Redwall discussion forum, after all. If all goes well, we should complete the entire Redwall series by the end of 2021!

Order
Since this event is meant to be a platform for community discussion, we thought we would poll you on what order we should read the series in! The two options are chronological (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Redwall_Chronological_Order) (the order of books in terms of when the events occur in the Redwall universe) and publication (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Publication_Order) (the order that they were published in). Leave your vote in the poll above!

If you have any questions, just hop over to the Announcement Response Topic (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=5116.840). I can't wait to start discussing!

The votes are in! After an intense back and forth between the two orders, chronological is the ultimate victor with eight votes! This means that we will be reading Lord Brocktree (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Lord_Brocktree_(book)) for the next three weeks until we start Martin the Warrior (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Martin_the_Warrior_(book)) on the 6th of September.

Head over to the the "Commentary on the Book Lord Brocktree (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9483.0)" thread (made by the wonderful Wylder Treejumper) to discuss!

UPDATE:

The reading period for Lord Brocktree (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Lord_Brocktree_(book)) has been extended another week! We realized that, as this is the first book we are reading, it may be nice to give everyone a little more time to read and discuss.

If you wish to join in now, head on down to the "Commentary on the Book Lord Brocktree (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9483.0)" thread and start discussing! Don't forget that even if you are not joining us for the readthrough we would still love to hear your thoughts from the last time you read the book! More discussion is always welcome.

We will be starting Martin the Warrior (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Martin_the_Warrior_(book)) on the 13th of September, EST (updated date). I can't wait to see what you all have to say!

An earnest thank you to everyone who participated in our Lord Brocktree discussion so far. Don't forget that discussion can still continue for that book for as long as there are thoughts to be shared!

It's time for the next book in chronological order: Martin the Warrior (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Martin_the_Warrior_(book))! Share your thoughts in the "Commentary on the Book Martin the Warrior (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9476.0)" thread.

After three weeks, we will start Mossflower (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Mossflower) on the 4th of October. I hope to see you all again then!

Don't forget: only one more week left to finish Martin the Warrior! Even if you don't have time to read along, you're still certainly welcome to share your thoughts on the book!

After much anticipation, it's finally time for the next and arguably most popular book in the Redwall series: Mossflower (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Mossflower)! Be sure to hop into the "Commentary on the Book Mossflower (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9472.15)" thread to share your thoughts!

The next book, Legend of Luke (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Luke), will be starting on the 25th of October. While different from most books in terms of chronology, it will still be a fascinating read as always!

It is time to set aside our beloved Mossflower and start on Legend of Luke! You can keep the love rolling and discuss it here, in the "Commentary on the Book Legend of Luke (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9482.0) thread.  The commentary thread for Mossflower shall also remain pinned, if you're like me and still haven't finished or just have more thoughts to share.

The next book in our read-along will be Outcast of Redwall, starting on 15th of November. This one in particular has always sparked some interesting conversations, so I'm eager to see everyone's thoughts when the time comes!

*Rolls into thread on spinny chair and peers over the top of my glasses* We're not mentioning today's date. If you still expect me to be on time, I don't know what to tell you. XD On we go to High Rhulain (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/High_Rhulain), and you can join us down in the commentary thread (https://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9488.msg761336#msg761336) to give us all your opinions - Trust me, I know you have 'em, High Rhulain is one I doubt fans will ever agree on.

Sometime around the 26th of September, we'll start Eulalia! (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Eulalia!)

I said if we were lucky. Then we must have rolled a -1 rng check, because we were very not lucky. Maybe I should go find the calendar I threw over my shoulder a few months ago. :P At any rate, we are FINALLY moving to Doomwyte (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Doomwyte)! You can follow the Wites (at your own risk) down to the commentary thread. (https://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9490.msg615993#msg615993)

I.... Honestly don't know if there's a point in giving a timeline but let's shoot to move to The Sable Queen/Quean (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sable_Quean) on the 19th of December.
Title: Re: A Remarkable Redwall Readalong Event!
Post by: Cornflower MM on December 20, 2021, 03:41:02 AM
What's this? Readalong? On time?! IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE. Clearly, I just needed to forget holding myself to any standard, and for Rosie to remind me last night. It's The Sable Quean (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/The_Sable_Quean) time! This one has the reputation of one of, if not the darkest Redwall book and it's certainly one of the most "different" of them. Got any thoughts? Pop 'em in the commentary thread that's riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight here! (https://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=9491.msg713962#msg713962)

On the 9th of January we'll switch over to The Rogue Crew, (https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/The_Rogue_Crew) the last book of the series and thus, the last in the Readalong.
