Here's a question for you guys:

Which species do you think is the one most people will want to play?
Which one do you think is the least sought after?

I would answer but seeing as how I have seen all the entries thus far I already know the answer.

For me I would want to play a hare or rat and I wouldn't want to play a shrew.

This board should be able to be posted in now  ;)

So for curiosity's sake, how come we weren't able to post before? Can you lock an entire board? And if so, is there a way to tell?

As far as the question goes, I don't really have any ideas for the most sought after (maybe fox), but I'd guess that the LEAST sought after would be the shrew or the hedgehog.

It's called having the board on "read only" mode instead of it being open to posting.

I would probably play a stoat or an otter. I wouldn't want to be a fox or a mouse. If I was going to be in this tournament, that is--  I don't think I will be doing this one....

I think the only species I WOULDN'T be fond of playing in this tournament would be a hare, a rabbit, or a shrew, because I'm not very good at portraying said creatures.  Other than that, I'm happy with whatever.  I'm just really glad there isn't a mole, because I'm horrible at playing moles.  :P

The only character I would not want to play would be a rat. Aside from that I really don't mind. Though I would prefer an otter or that rabbit.  ;D

I would not like to play a rat or a shrew; any other species I am happy with, though.

I'd be glad to play anything but a Rat.

We all seem to have problems with Rats.

I think the most wanted to be played would be the fox or the hare or the wildcat.

I think the least wanted to be played would be the pine marten.

I think most wanted would be: Otter, hare, or squirrel. Least wanted would be: Pine martin, mole, hedgehog, or wildcat.

There are alot of Wildcat lovers though.....Rain especially......

Aye.  ;D  Ungatt really liked wildcats, too.  Wonder where he went...

As for the whole discussion of rats, I actually wouldn't mind playing a rat.  I haven't played many, but I do enjoy being the character who always messes everything up and is a complete bumbling fool.  ;D  And I also like playing pine martens.

Wow, I feel very different from everyone else.  At least one character on each person's list of "The most wanted character" I haven't wanted, and at least one character from each "The least wanted character" list I've wanted.  :P
Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: Cornflower MM on September 08, 2014, 05:34:37 PM
Haha! Rainy's special! ;D

I would be fine playing anything. I just prefer squirrels. . . . . Playing a rat would be kinda cool, though. I can NOT type mole speech to save my life, so I myself don't want to play a mole. But I wouldn't mind it. Hare speech is easy. Add in 'wot wot,' 'bally,' so on and so forth, and you got hare speech! (I'm rambling, aren't I?)
Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: rachel25 on September 08, 2014, 06:18:28 PM
Personally I'd like to play either, an otter, a squirrel, a fox. But I wouldn't mind playing a pine martin or any type of vermin really. But I'd have to be in a certain mood to play a rat.
Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: Wylder Treejumper on September 08, 2014, 08:16:06 PM
No rats or hedgehogs for me. I'm partial to playing squirrels, otters, wildcats, and hares myself.
Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: Faiyloe on September 08, 2014, 10:36:43 PM
I actually would be perfectly fine with playing a pine marten (I actually do play one on the VI) . I prefer a character that works by intelligence and skill not brute strength and force. You can make most any other vermin character work that way just not a rat no matter how you turn it on its head it is still a rat. ;D

What do you mean by tag lines? I'm pretty sure you aren't referencing coding, but that's the only thing I can think of.  ::)

Lol, I thought the pine marten would be popular. The choices I sent in were (in order): Pine marten, female otter, and female hedgehog. Never RP'd a hedgehog or a pine marten, but they sound kinda interesting to play.

Anyway, what are tag lines? I'm just as confused as everyone else. :P

I really hope that if I don't get the Female otter I get the Rabbit. In fact I wouldn't mind not getting the otter if it men't getting the rabbit. I am surprised it was not more highly sought after.

We'll have to wait for Brook's answer, but I honestly think it'd be fine. No sense in keeping it a secret really, we were just talking about who we did and didn't want.

I actually have no idea how I'll portray my character (I won't say who it is yet, 'cause I don't know if Brooky wants us to or not, but I'll say I do really like the character I got), but I'm gonna be in the car for a couple of hours today, so I'll be drawing some different appearances to choose from.  Appearances kinda help me work out a personality, y'know?  Weird, but... yeah.  :P

Cool I should try that method. currently I have no clue as to how my character will look aside from one or two minor detailed.
Though I do know a good bit of history and a tad of personality.

Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: Rainshadow on September 19, 2014, 06:46:11 PM
Iunno.  Either there are, or something like last tournament happened where more than one got distributed.

Question:  This is probably a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway so that I don't create a character that's so off from the storyline.  Are the Ramblers pretty much a band of performers, like the Rambling Rosehip Players?
Title: Re: Clans of Redwall (open discussion)
Post by: BrookSkimmer on September 19, 2014, 08:31:23 PM
I changed the character slightly to fit the needs of our RPers. I do that when I can because I want people to be happy with the character they receive.

If you read the description of Esile (leader of the troupe) that was recently posted, you can get the flavor of the traveling band.  ;)

I get the feeling that Rain and Dan are pirates, because they're about the only people who haven't said who they are, and the pirates have the smallest group as of right now.

I don't know if I'd say that. I've only heard about 1 footfighter so far, and that was Cornflower MM. Sounds like the packed group is the rambling folks  :)

I've read a bit in the completed tournaments archive and found that there was a 7 posts per week limit on RP tourney 3. Will we have a similar restriction in this tournament, and does that include out of character discussion threads, or is it just on the major ones?

Save for the discussion thread.  You're allowed to post in that as many times as you wish, just not several times in a row.  ;)  At least, that's how it was last time, if I remember correctly.  It may be different this time, but I doubt a restriction would be put on the OOC thread.

Yeah, we probably haven't met. I was active when the forum first started, but life has caught up with me and doesn't allow me much forum time. :P (Seriously, kids! If you can get to Neverland, go now! There's no going back once the growing up process has begun!)
Well, hopefully you can think of a history and get in! (I haven't been paying much attention to the sign-up process....so I'm not sure what the current process is....)

DID YOU JUST CALL ME A KID!?  >:( ......  ;) Hey Icefahr, how'sih goin'? Haven't seen you awhile, playing forum lurker now I see  :P. Sheets are due today, though I'm sure Brook would make an exception since you've been out of the loop. You're in college right? I've got college now myself on top of two jobs, but I've been able to stay active. How's your situation going now?

@Corn: If you send me a PM, I might be able to help you out with that history. Just some different approaches you could take, I wouldn't actually be giving you the words. Histories can be difficult, I'm just lucky because I already had the two different characters I was considering completely planned out. Even so, the sheet took FOREVER! I wish you luck even if you don't accept my offer, not always a fun part of character development.

EDIT: This post was made before Skarz and Icefire posted, but I'm not changing it, I'm stubborn like that.  :P

@Icefire: It was good to see your name up on the "Who's Online" list the other day. There are so few other people left from 2011, and it's a pleasure whenever one of y'all are back around. It's a shame that you've grown up, but I guess that isn't uncommon. It seems that everyone here has, except me.

@everyone else: I've never actually posted in any of the regular RPs, other than my brief run as Terrus in the aborted "Quest for the Sword", and I think all the tournaments took place after I left, so it's fair to say that I'm new at this myself. The closest thing to role playing I've done recently is in Overlord's Orders, and that isn't exactly the same. I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get into the swing of things, though. I'd have liked to check out the earlier tournaments, to see how those worked, but with my poor out-of-town connection, I'm hard enough pressed just to keep up with the forum as much as I have.

As far as my role, I won't keep you in much more suspense; I'm playing the male rat. Without going into more detail than Brooky wants right now, I'll say that he's a little different from what you might expect, and that I hope he'll be an interesting character on Rackenprow.

@dan: No, I did not call you a kid. If you're in college and holding down two jobs, you are definitely past the point of no return. How on earth have you managed to stay active?! ;) As for my life, college and one "part-time" job (that should really be considered full-time considering how many hours they give me), but that's all I'll say about it since this thread is actually about a RP Tournament! That's a discussion for another board.

@Tam and Martin (sorry, I don't know who's playing...I'm guessing Tam?): Yes, yes I am alive! ;D Shocking, isn't it?

@James: Nice to see you back on the forum! I was honestly shocked when Rainshadow informed me that you showed up again....and you have an avatar! Not the taco, though...

Hey, Jasper, our characters are enemies.  ::)
Indeed, and my character is also friends with Gryphon (I particularly like his character, well detailed and like a rich version of Jack Sparrow {There should be a captain in there somewhere!}). I can't wait to face off, and may the best pirate win... arrrrr

Anyway I've read through most of the character sheets and they seem spectacular. I don't fancy my chances at winning to be very
high, but I'll give it everything I've got.

In addition, I'm interested to see how this whole thing will play out. With only 3 pirates it may be challenging to keep a scene going, especially when each of us can only post a couple of times. (maybe Brooke will play the captain and miscellaneous pirates?) The poor pirates seem to have the odds against them in this one (only 3 of us!), but don't fret me hearties, we'll overcome the numbers and come out on top one way or another!

I'm grateful for the positive feedback. I thought about giving a more stereotypical searat (in the Greypatch vein) a try, and slightly regret not doing so now as it seems a lot of our characters are higher-class, and it might've helped to balance it out... but I still like the character sheet as written and think it'll be interesting to try to bring the rat to life.

The main thing to keep in mind is that Ackab is not nice. I figured that there would be a lot of grey and good characters, even in the vermin ranks, so I decided that my character would be a straight up villain. That doesn't mean he'll be torturing people or betraying his allies just for giggles, but he is ultimately selfish, and has no problems with committing murder, theft, or other unsavory deeds, if that will help him get what he wants. When I'm done, I'm hoping that the readers and other players will think of him as interesting, plausible, and the type of person they would hate to be acquainted with in real life.

As far as enemies/allies go, I'll probably ask Brooky about that. The ship players seem to be limited in number, and a consequence of that is that it appears my archrival isn't being played by anyone.

Apparently, Brook said I am alliance with the shrew (Leatho) and enemies with the Wildcat (Wylder). This will be interesting  ;D

Ha!  I'm the exact opposite.  Buddies with Wylder, enemies with Leatgo.  :P

LOL! Cool! So it looks like it is me and Leatho against Rain and Wylder   ;D

  *Brandishes rapier menacingly*  ;D
*Prepares spear*  ;D

This will be lots of fun  ;D

I wonder why there are enemies in the same clan?
Probably to spice up the storyline. It will be cool to see! I wonder who Wylder is enemies or friends with.....

Yep.  ;D  I was sitting in the car, just finished drawing what I thought my character would look like, and I went, "Hrm... what should I name him?"  I was about to just go, "Eh, I'll figure out something when I get home."  Then my brain went, "Wait, you drew him looking all cocky and fancy, and he has a rapier... why not have his name be one he made himself?  Something describing his character?  What is he doing?  He's fighting...  Parry.  No, Thrust?  Thrust... something.  No, Parry's better.  Wait.  Parry and Thrust.  Perrian Thrust.  YES."

A question for the ship people: All 3 of us have already posted, so what happens now? We're all heading towards the cabin, so I'm not really sure...

Should we continue to interact with each other? It's a bit of a challenge to do that with only 3 people to interact with.

On a side note, well done to all of you lot! Interesting starts to all the different factions... or groups... clans? Whatever the case, I'd say we've had a decent start.  :)

A message to everyone:

I was wondering if there was anyone (From any of the groups) who would be willing to play along with me in my post (Please read it to know what I am talking about). What I was thinking about was that the person I would be acting with would say they had hidden their stuff, but when they come back, they find it missing and they find out that Vanglar had taken what was theirs. Then they can be enemies, fight etc. If you are interested just tell me and we can work out specifics.

Wrote a lot about this in the ship's planning board. A lot of my current trouble (besides not being too hot at writing descriptive prose) is writing something long enough -- which is kind of funny, since the problem with my posts in Overlord's Orders is that they're too long. I'm hoping I can get to the top of my game and give Jasper and all the rest of y'all a run for your money before this is over with, though.

Hey length isn't everything, I'd say you've already given me more than a run for my money ;). In any case, once this tournament really starts rolling I'm sure you won't have any problems with length. At the moment there just isn't much to interact with (the main reason most people have relatively short posts.)

Quick question: do we find out our scores directly after the conclusion of the first round, or do we get them at the end of the tournament. If we don't get them before the second round starts, It'd be really nice if I could get some kind of feedback to make sure I'm on the right track with this whole thing. Maybe a quick sample score or something.
(As this is my first tournament I've no idea if I'm actually doing this right. )

I'm not sure as to the scoring system, but I guarantee you that you don't have anything to worry about. Right now I'd guess that you're in the lead in our division, and quite possibly in the entire tournament.

The first round ended on the 30th, technically, so if you really want to keep posting you're going to have to do it quick, without the tale weaver. Good luck  ;)

I really would like if one of you guys (Anybody would work) could play along with me on the treasure thing (Look at my first and third post). It would be much appreciated - I don't want all that detail I put into it to go to waste.

Yep, good tip! I always make sure to select all and copy my posts before I send them in... just in case it doesn't go through. I sympathize as that is like one of the worst feelings when you loose a great post!

Glad to see we're back in business! No problems on the delays - things happen! I just went offline myself for 12 straight days!  :o

My question is: is BrookSkimmer the only one judging the posts or do all the moderators pitch in? Seems like an incredible amount of reading and judging for one person who is already running the entire tournament single-handed!  :(

Either way - thanks so much for putting this on and working so hard on it! It gives us all a great time, and spectacular (and stiff!) friendly competition.

Traditionally, we've had multiple judges. I think Daniel was helping out with the last one. I wouldn't be surprised if Brook's getting some help from Matthias.

Results for round 1 are up! Sorry for delays! Round 2 will be up soon and will move faster than round 1.  ;D

please discuss results in this thread. I think you are all doing really well! Some of you have improved dramatically since the last tournament! Great work!

Problem was that I had to depend on Tale Weaver to post, and unless I posted smaller posts when I did I wouldn't have been able to reach the minimum of posts.

Woooowwww! Competition is incredibly stiff! We have a 4 way tie for the top! Gotta hand it to my sea-mateys in the ship clan, every single one of whom is tied for the top. However, every player has a solid chance to make a come back in the next rounds, so I'd say well done all around! I wait in eager anticipation for the upcoming round 2.

Same here.  Well, I dunno, I guess I thought I'd be in the middle of the pack; not near the bottom, but most certainly not tied for first.  My posts were kinda lame, in my opinion.  :P

Hey guys... I think I'm going to put this contest on hold while things get sorted out. I was on vacation and hoping to see some posting action in the threads when I got back. Sadly, there's not much going on. I think I'm going to restructure things and then open stuff back up.

If you still want to be part of this I will be putting out a thread soon to tell about the restructured direction of this tournament.
