Some of you may or may not have noticed the lack of progress concerning the matter of regaining the old forum. We have contacted the Redwall Abbey Company, attempted to get ahold of the webmaster, and contacted the hosting site. All our efforts have proved fruitless. So far, the Redwall Abbey Company has proved silent on the matter. As a result, we, the few Redwall fans left to uphold the great series, have decided to make personal appeals to the relative of the revered author, Mr. Brian Jacques, in order to maintain our beloved community.
If it is possible for you to do so, we would appreciate your writing to Mr. Jacques' son (who is the director of the Redwall Abbey Company) to remind them that there is still a dedicated, if reduced, community reliant on him. His address is as follows:
Mr. David Jacques, Director, Redwall Abbey Company
Address: Flat 1 Gledhill, 1 Mossley Hill Drive, Liverpool, L17 1AJ, UK
Please notify him of the current situation, and express your eagerness to have the old forum back up.
UPDATE: Include James' contact info so that the problem can be solved as quickly as possible: james.gryphon@yahoo.com
USPS Website (http://www.usps.com/international/first-class-mail-international.htm)
I'll see what I can do.
Is this approved by the Staff?
Affirmative. Also, see update.
We've talked about this (in the shoutbox). It seems like a good idea to me, so I said to go for it, and put it up in the news when Wylder posted it.
That said, I haven't talked to Matthias about this or gotten an update from Gonff just yet. I'll contact both of them tonight; see what the boss says, and also see if Gonff has any new word.
I want y'all to be ready to do this, because it seems like our best chance of communicating that this is an issue that people care about, but once you've written it, don't send it in the mail just yet, until one of us gives the all-clear.
Edit: Contacted both Matthias and Gonff. I'll let y'all know what all is up and whether we are good to go ahead with this as soon as possible.
Would it be possible to send an email? Sending a letter from Singapore to the U.K could be complicated.
I believe you mean the UK.
And yes is there a way to send an email?
Unfortunately, we are unable to reach him by email. This is the only contact information we have, courtesy of the filings of the Redwall Abbey Company. It is very probably our last effort; unless the webmaster puts the forum back up again, we are unable to access either it or the database. And while I am unsure of the details of international postage, it should hopefully be a reasonable attempt. Postage from the U.S., at least, seems about $1.20 for a First-Class International Letter (USPS (http://ircalc.usps.com)).
Hmm. That creates an issue for me.
I'd like to help, but I don't know if my parents would let me send the letter. Nevertheless, I'll have it written. Please let us know ASAP when we can send them. Thank you!

Thirded.
I'm onboard as well.
By the way, how did you get this address information (if it is not through private means, that is)?
His post as Director of the Redwall Abbey Company is public domain, and therefore so is the correspondence address I obtained.

Quaded.
In fact, I know they won't let me.
I don't think it would be a problem for me.
Why aren't you guys allowed to?
My parents don't even know I'm on a forum. It'd likely be the end of my forum tenure.
...
They don't know?
My parents might think it's too much work for a frivolous purpose. I could ask, though.

Why aren't you guys allowed to?
Well they might surprise me, but my dad is pretty over protective. Also, there's also the fact that I
never receive or send mail. Might be a bit weird and then I'd have a ton of explaining to do but it's worth it. I just have to actually do it.
My letter will be written by Friday.

Nope.
My parents are very supportive of me being on here. It was actually my mum's idea for me to join in the first place. Why do you think they wouldn't like you being on here?

Well I lied. I'll get it written soon though.
I'm thinking I'll have to bring my letter to the post office, which I've been meaning to get to for other things for a very long while. Hopefully this will speed that process. (Or maybe I'll get my license and drive over there myself.)
Are we sending the letters already?
Not quite yet; Matthias was going to try one last time to get into touch before we did anything this dramatic. He or I'll let y'all know when the time comes.
Any news on this topic?
None.
Should we send the letters?
I'll ask Matthias.

I'll do it!!! I was wondering about the old forum!!????
Why did they get rid of the old forum anyway? We lost so much good fan fiction and role play.
It just crashed, nobody purposefully shut it down.
O, that makes more sense. R.I.P. old forum.

As far as we know.
We can tell from the error page that the /forum directory was deleted, or at least renamed. He might have taken it down intending to install a clean copy of SMF, or to repair the mishandled upgrade, but for some unknown reason, never got around to it.
(The directory being gone doesn't mean that the forum information is lost; that stuff is stored separately, in the server's database.)
Perhaps he died as soon as he did it, so now nobody knows what's the deal with the website :P
We can assume he's still alive, at least as of this last summer, when the front page got updated with a new text blurb.
Didn't you say Gonff was in touch with the webmaster?

if I remember right, he was in contact with the company, not the webmaster.
This pisses me off so much.
Aye. We were in touch with the Redwall Abbey Company, but not even they could find the webmaster...

Yeah, I did in contact with the webmaster and someone from the Redwall Abbey Company. They knew of Redwall Abbey and such and I believe tried to contact him about payment and such. It was a pretty lengthy ordeal overall.

Hi Brinty! I'm Søren, nice to meet you!
If you'd like the full introductions, swing by this topic (http://www.loamhedgeabbey.com/index.php?topic=4.0). And if you're a returning member from the old forum, say hi here (http://www.loamhedgeabbey.com/index.php?topic=13.0). Have fun! :)
