Title: Which character has the most skills?
Post by: Ashleg on January 30, 2016, 03:33:18 AM
Everything from fighting to singing and making food counts here.
Basically, I want to know...Which character do you think is the most talented and why?
They can be a woodlander or a vermin, and can be skilled in anything.

*Not* which character is the biggest Mary-Sue! XD
I just meant somebeast who could do the most. They don't have to be perfect at it or anything.

I haven't read all of the books yet, but Deyna's knife tricks get pretty unbelievable, particularly on the Dillypin raft. He's a Mary-Sue, but still...

He's good and all, but I wouldn't say that his tricks were unbelievable!
I have to defend Denya. XD

Not normally, but the part where he somersaults AFTER THROWING IT and finishes his somersault just after the knife hits the wall is just...No. No otter can jump that fast.

Incredibly lame pun
If he's that fast, why is he an otter? Shouldn't he be...a hedgehog?!?!

Well, when Sonic Breaks His Neck, Tagg can take over. (more lame references)

Tagg shouldn't need to wait for Scanic Sonic to break his neck to take over, he should be able to do it now. ;)

She is wise, has a caring nature.

So were a lot of other characters.
Would you say she's more skilled and talented than, say, Martin, or other prominent characters?

It is worth noting that for most of her life, Cregga was blind and couldn't fight anymore. So, not sure how that applies to your thinking of her being the most experienced and talented fighter, Frank. She's a really awesome character though, no matter what.

I don't see how she is. She was nearly killed by Damug (a great rat) who by no indication was a particularly skilled fighter. This was primarily due to the fact that she threw away her weapon and grabbed him with her bare hands. While he on the other hand was armed with a sword. He blinded her and inflected serious injuries in the process. She repeated this same mistake in Marlfox when she grabbed the ferret Raventail, armed with a scimitar, with her bare hands although she did not suffer any injuries in the process. Having this low a level of rationality and self control when it comes to combat is a serious disadvantage.

The best fighter in my opinion is Boar, especially the Boar seen in Mossflower. He had learned to get his Bloodwrath largely under control and was also an extremely skilled sword fighter. The book clearly states that Martin the Warrior learned from Boar more about sword fighting in a single day than he had in his entire life prior to that lesson.

Ah, very true, Grond. He was titled "the Fighter" after all.

Cluny was definitely skilled, seemingly able to use any weapon he could grab (his tail, the iron picket, and he killed a pike.) However, how is Sunflash a candidate for most skilled? I'm currently rereading The Outcast of Redwall, and as far as it seems, he charges into battle with his mace, swinging the huge weapon to smash through defenses. While he is experienced with that weapon, and is undoubtedly an extremely competent and dangerous fighter, that technique does not make him skilled.

In the first post, it was mentioned that we're not just talking about fighting here, we're talking about a variety of skills. The candidates I put forward are Lord Brocktree and Gnoff, Prince of Mousethieves.
Lord Brocktree is a very good fighter, has a good sense of humor, is great at solving arguments, can write riddles and poetry, is decent at singing and knows how to row. (or maybe it was paddle, or both)
Gnoff can sing, write poetry, pick locks, mimic, move silently, move without being seen, not move and he has a good sense of humor and has the force of character to learn any other skills he may need, or get through without them.
