I'm not vegetarian and don't wanna be.
I eat very little meat, and what I buy is organic meat or wild-caught fish when I can. You don't need a lot of meat in your diet, but I think a little is healthy. I personally need the protein and other nutrients from it. Fish is also incredibly healthy for you, especially salmon and other fatty fish (but farmed fish can be loaded with contaminants so its best to do research before deciding what to buy). I eat mostly vegetables, fruit, whole grains and lean meats. I don't often eat ground beef or bacon, and when I do it's in small amounts. Some things are off the menu though, including rabbit, veal, fois gras etc. because I work with rabbits and because I think veal and fois gras are especially cruel to produce.
I LOVE dairy and eggs though, so I could never be vegan. I don't think either are particularly cruel to the animals. I love animals and try to do good by them, but the fact does remain that we are omnivores and are at the top of the food chain, and as such I don't feel morally obligated to cut meat from my diet. I try to limit my intake and buy free-range, grass-fed or organic meats.
I don't understand people who consume massive amounts of meat at every meal, or who eat beef every day. It's really very bad for you to eat that much.
I could never be a vegan, I couldn't give up bacon, as little as I have it.
I would never give up my meat....Never!
i am vegetarian but i still eat all dairy products although i do try to eat less eggs. bacon is delicous but i dont eat it. also i am aware that cheese often has rennet from the lining of a baby cows stomach in it but thats so little meat and cheese is my favorite food
The Bible says we've been given meat to eat, so I do. So saying, I try to eat organic and local whenever possible. However, due to the size of my family, it's just too expensive to do so very often.
Have any of you ever seen the documentary called Food, Inc.?
i love meat and will never give it up

Yes... very eye-opening.
I try really hard to eat only a bit of meat, or products that I know are humanely-raised. I love my animals! And if I get a pot-belly pig or something, I would drop pork for good. ;)
Why does everybody love meat so much? I really don't find appealing. I mean I'll eat it but I like vegetables better. I don't like any fruits so I don't see why I couldn't be a vegetarian.
I love meat! I don't get why people will give it up just because they feel sorry for the animals. I mean, come on, they're just animals. :P
Also, they used to make cheese with something from a baby cow's stomach, but I don't think they do that anymore.

For a lot of people (including me) it's not guilt about animals dying but rather about animals suffering. Most factory farms are abysmal places and terribly cruel. I still eat some meat but I generally feel guilt about how the animals are raised and slaughtered.
Nah, I don't feel guilt at all. True, the factory farms need to get better, but I'm just not into thinking through every little thing I eat. If the animals really suffered, I might not eat meat, but it probably won't happen.

meh im aetheist (its prolly best for me to not bring religion up on a forum like this but oh well) and my parents watched food inc, i decided to stay home. also, matthiasman, they do still make cheese with calf rennet, though they also make it with bacterial rennet and i think fungus rennet. and why would we give meat up just cause we feel sorry for animals? let me put it this way. idk bout you, but i would not like to be killed, cooked, and eaten. and animals i think have that much conciousness and thought, at least. but im not trying to get anybody to become a vegetarian here, just saying why i am. ;)

It's not a reason to become vegetarian! two solutions: Why don't you buy local from somebody that you know doesn't treat the animals cruelly. Or raise them! A lot of people don't want to eat there animals because their cute, but that's just stupid. Why do you eat meat from the grocery store, the animals killed for the meat were cute too! >:(

It's a perfectly reasonable reason to not eat meat. A) it's MUCH cheaper to be vegetarian. Meat is incredibly expensive for how much food you get, and if you ever had to buy groceries you know organic/farm-raised/grass-fed/cage-free meat and poultry is usually double the cost of regular. I can afford it because I'm just feeding myself but if I had a family to feed, or a smaller income, what then? And B) It makes a lot of people feel sad and guilty. You might not feel that way but a ton of people do. And if eating certain foods makes some people feel bad or sick, they certainly have a right to eat that way without being harassed, just like other people should be allowed to eat meat without being harassed. It's only fair.
Also, while I'd love to raise animals its simply not practical for most people. At all.
Play nice, people. ;)
While I'm here, I wouldn't give up meat either. I like my poultry products. I've watched the Food Inc. film and I saw it as propaganda. Not all farms are like this, not all situations are like this, though the film portrays it as the only thing going on. That's no way to convince people to buy into their opinion. If PBS Frontline ever did anything on this, I'd listen to them. They provide balance to a lot of the emotionally touchy subjects everyone either sides with completely or loathes 100%.
You make a good point about Food, Inc. It still got to me to see that any of that goes on anywhere in the US. What's much more disgusting to me is the pet food industry, honestly.
Frontline is great, I watch almost every week. Always informative and they rarely pick sides.
I really don't like meat. Not that I feel guilty for animals just. . .I guess I just don't like the taste.
Ugh... I'd die if I had to go vegetarian... I'm like, the closest human being to carnivores. :D
Hahaha I love meat and would never give it up
I only eat animals that were blessed by the Bible, God to the Israelites. So I eat: birds, and hoofed animals.
But presumably not all animals with hooves?

true, I should have clarified. I eat, for example, cows, pigs, and occasionally, lamb... But not horses
Horse tastes rather awful anyway, it wouldn't really be worth eating unless food was short.

I don't like the fact that they eat cats and dogs in some Asian countries. I know it's part of their culture, but...
MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!
It's all cultural though. Pigs are intelligent and sensitive animals and we eat them just fine here. Can't fault them for eating different animals than us. I don't like the idea much either but they're well within their rights to.

good point Flandor. thanks.
I'm not vegetarian but I don't like killing animals. So pretty much if I were a butcher I would be broke.

I don't like it when animals are killed to use their fur for decorative purposes.
Exactly! It's just cruel!

Agreed.
And I also agree. Why would you? I just, well, I don't understand it. Oh, and I can't eat meat when I think about what it was.
