Title: Awkward thing about Swartt Sixclaw
Post by: Film Reel on May 25, 2013, 01:07:50 AM
I'm reading Outcast of Redwall, and I'm past the part where Bluefen has Veil, and I just thought...um...SNIP -falls in a hole-

I don't think that is appropriate to discuss, the forum rules say no sexual or adult content. ;)

BUT. Sorry. It just popped in my head. Now I feel bad.

Don't feel bad! You didn't go into great detail or anything, so no harm done!  :)
And I'm not going to go into detail either- because I don't want to break any rules- but it's a natural thing... Awkward but natural.
Haha, I feel awkward just typing that!! XD

I thought I was going to be shot down and laughed it. I love this place. But still. -flips table with book on it- Very awkward thought.

And why is it so awkward for a warlord to have offspring? ;)  I mean yeah, we know how its done and all....there wouldn't be any new enemies if there weren't any new young born to the vermin of Redwall.

It's not exactly having offspring that's awkward. It's the in-between process. XD Of course, I'm still in that reproduction is awkward stage. Even though a lot of people my age aren't anymore.

Well, this is awkward, but Swartt, well... I just kinda thought he liked all of the female stoats, ferrets, and weasels in the vermin camp, if you know what I mean. Poor Bluefen. It was probably hell being married to Swartt

Please don't swear, Romsca.

And I think that Swartt was like some of the evil males throughout history and the present, he cared only for himself and gratified his own desires.

I think it should be something to avoid until you are married, so I'll probably feel awkward with it until I am old enough to get married.

Me too, but at least I'm not really awkward about it anymore

The thing that I found very awkward about that happening is that Bluefen and Swartt were hardly ever together, so how could that actually happen?  It would of been much more realistic if Swartt actually cared for Bluefen, and didn't shun her.

I don't feel too awkward talking about this, due to it being fiction.  (Or so we think it's fiction.)

Swarrt probably didn't care about Bluefen but maybe he wanted an offspring to carry his name- Just a guess.

If he wanted an offspring, why didn't he care when he noticed that Veil had disappeared?

Yeah, he probably didn't want Veil. He probably just wanted Bluefen, because he was a CREEP

I doubt he even wanted to be married to Bluefen. And he probably had Veil because...maybe he felt like it was expected of him? After all, Bluefen's father, the previous chieftain, had her...

Just because he .............. with Bluefen does NOT mean he wanted Veil!
Title: Re: Awkward thing about Swartt Sixclaw

The only reason that Swartt married Bluefen was because, since he had killed Bowfleg, had to marry the previouse chieftin's daughter.
And about this hole, uh, thing: I don't think that it should be majorly refrenced to. Even if we do know about it, its really not something to make real conversation about.

I'm going to go ahead and change the topic a bit. While the nature of procreation amongst vermin in the Redwall series is doubtlessly a fascinating one for some (or many) of you, discussion on said topic (especially to the extent discussion in this particular thread requires) breaks rule #3 and is not allowed on this forum. :)

That said, I think the dynamic between Swartt and Bluefen (and to a lesser extent, Veil) is certainly an interesting one and absolutely worth discussing! Bluefen really didn't have much of a character, so although we could likely rationalize that Swartt didn't care a whit for her, who's to say she didn't care for him? If Bluefen had lived and Veil had grown up within the horde, how do you think his attitude and life decisions would be different? What kind of family would they make? What part would Bluefen and Veil have played in the finale of the book had Redwall not been involved through Bryony's relationship with Swartt's son?

What do you guys think?

I think that Veil would have been a better creature if Bluefen had lived.

I always got the impression that Bluefen was gentle and caring, unlike most vermin.

True I hadn't thought about that. Maybe he didn't care about Veil much and just wanted Bluefen.

I think your statement might be correct. Maybe Brian wrote it that way because in older history, when a king wouldn't want another army to destroy his kingdom, he had one of his daughters marry that man.

Title: Re: Awkward thing about Swartt Sixclaw

I said that because of poor Bluefen. She probably was beaten by Swartt and told not to speak (maybe why she never said anything in the book) and she probably had to endure the occasional other ferret showing up and saying "Hey Swartt :-*" and having him be gone for a while if you know what I mean.
