Title: Norham's Scribbles!
Post by: Norham Waterpaw on January 24, 2014, 02:05:06 AM
Well, I've finally made the art thread that I've been meaning to make since I first joined.  :D Because thanks to my blog, I finally have a place to post my art!
I'm still working out the kinks. If this doesn't work, please tell me.  :D

[img][http://ramblingsandsketches.weebly.com/1/post/2014/01/first-upload.html/img]

Edit: Well, that didn't work at all. I can't seem to find the URL for the image itself, I can only find the one for the page.  :D

I know the camera's crummy ( I will be using a scanner in the future) but please enjoy the link that O so graciously screwed up!  ;D

  Here's my request:

Major Praeclara Imber
Name:  Major Praeclara "Clara" Imber (the pronunciation of her name being pray-CLAR-uh "CLAR-uh" eem-BEAR (the Rs are rolled))

Species:  Hispid hare

Gender:  Female

Age:  32 or 33.  Somewhere in between.

Rank:  Major

Appearance:  Clara is what many would describe as beautiful, with deep brown eyes, a thin, tall frame, and silky golden-brown fur (image below).  Her paw pads are white, a feature not common with many beasts, but she doesn't enjoy it.  The hare claims that she can be seen easier by the enemy if her paws are white.  So she tries to die them the same colour as her fur, but this usually doesn't work.
For her clothing, Praeclara is mainly found in her uniform, but on her down time, she enjoys dressing in a comfortable tunic and trousers.  However, for the ball, the major will be dressing in a purple gown (image below).

Personality:  When she was just a leveret, Praeclara was quite a shy creature, but she came out of her shell shortly after joining the Long Patrol.  Still, she's not usually the one to go to parties with.  Unfortunately, as this is a military ball, the hare feels as though she must go, although she would much rather stay in the barracks and read.
Other than that, Clara loves to eat, and has a massive appetite.  She is fine with her position in the Patrol, glad to have a little authority but also relieved that she doesn't have as much responsibility as others.  She's still young at heart, and isn't overly fond of leading.

You drew a paladin... Think you could handle a rogue?

Fox. Studded leather armor. Slightly glowing magical rapier and hand crossbow, with six knives strapped to various places. Longbow and quiver strapped to back.

Pose us important. Your paladin stands like he means it, and he's daring evil doers to dispute that. For the rogue, maybe a sort of fencing pose- knees bent, right arm outstretched. But behind his back, he's holding a dagger- (subtracted from the six strapped to him) and is ready to use it.

Expression. Maybe smirking. I like smirking. Bahahahahaha.

In case you couldn't tell (And it's not obvious) this is sort of mirroring my D&D character... The Rogue, Ivar Finch.

I've finished Ivar, but I can't get the smirk right...  :-\ If I add the smirk, he looks like the dorkiest dork that ever dorked a dork. Yeah, that bad.  ;D

But I can still upload him! (Minus the smirk)  ;)

Oh yeah, this guy was a challenge, because he had so much stuff, and not a whole ton of space to put it...

She's a rabbit who wears a light coloured tunic with a belt and wears a brown bracelet made of two bits of some material tied together in a kind of plait. Her weapons are a bow and arrow, so she'll also have a quiver holder on her back. It's up to you what pose you do. :)

Great work! I admire how with so little detail you can get such personality in these characters!: My character has a great stance and determined expression to her, and again the shading is very effective. It's a lovely picture - thank you muchly, Norham! :D

(P.s. The other drawings look cool, too! :))

Could you possibly do two characters in one drawing?  Preferably holding hands or leaning on one another or something, but something involving physical touch (in a loving, best-buddy/spouse way)?

Shadow and Jag Wildfire
In case you don't know, these two are mates.  ;)

Name:  Shadow Wildfire
Age:  30
Gender:  Female
Species:  Wildcat
Weapons:  Shadow uses a black bow and arrows, as well as a black dagger.
Side:  Good
Appearance:  The queen's body is lithe, as one might imagine a dancer's to be.  This makes for quiet hunting and swiftness, but means she isn't very strong.  Short, smooth black fur covers her body, with the exception of the tip of her right forepaw and a flame mark running from her nose to her brow, which are white.  Also, her tail is gone, leaving a white-tipped stump.  Her eyes are a stormy grey.
Clothing-wise, Shadow is clad in a faded purple tunic, and she wears a black cape on top, which ends at her tail stump.  Black leather boots cover her footpaws, and there's a single blue earring in her left ear.  A black belt wraps around her waist, with the dagger fastened to it, and a black quiver is strapped to her back.  And lastly, she wears a leather necklace with a white translucent stone tied to it.
Other:  Not very trusting, but loyal when she finally does come to trust you.  She's quiet around those she doesn't know, but tries to be kind to all.

Name:  Jag Wildfire
Age:  32
Gender:  Male
Species:  Wildcat
Weapons:  Jag carries a staff and a silver hand and a half sword.
Side:  Good
Appearance:  The tom's body structure is tall and strong; the warrior's build.  He's rather muscular and handsome, with long, creamy white fur covering most of his body.  The only sections that are different are his ears and paws, which are black.  Jag has kind sea blue eyes, and he wears a black sleeveless tunic.  His sword is strapped to his back and held there with a grey shoulder belt.  (He also has a grey belt on his waist, which the shoulder belt is connected to.)
Also, the wildcat has several seafarer's tattoos on his arms, signifying countless seasons of sailing.
Other:  Kind, charming, and funny.  He almost always has a twinkle in his eye.

Ah, sweet detail!  How I've missed you!

I have been meaning to make this topic since I first joined, so art started to accumulate fast.  :D

And Here's a year-old drawing of Norham. I drew this when I was first joining the forum. It's weird looking back on a drawing so old. My style was way different. Even little details, like my handwriting is different.
Ahem, sorry, done being sentimental.  ;D

Do the voices say anything else?

By the way, thanks guys! It was fun! And Rain, glad you like them.

Sorry for not responding at all today, it was pretty busy (We won our handball game!)

Will you draw Tyrull, the voice in my head?

When he was corporeal he wore entirely black armour with upwards pointing horns on his helmet and spikes on his shoulders. He wore a black cloak too. He wielded a massive broadsword and his aura was a swirling vortex of purple, black and gold but that is not necessary.

I'm interested to see how the mortal portrays me
I bet you are.....

Could you do at least one of my voice's form?
Here:

Name: One Of Many
Appearance:
Body- Large in stature
Limbs- Huge limbs and three-clawed (not fingered, clawed) hands, legs like a wolf.
Head- Two irregular horns out the sides of his head, which is almost like an oval on it's side in shape
Face- Fanged mouth and cat-like eyes, both steaming from a fiery heat emanating from them.
Color: All dark grey with a smoky haze surrounding, blending in, and breaking up the entire outline.

Hope that is sufficient. ;D

His legs were a little more wolf-like before I shaded them. Now you can't really see the fur.  :P
Anyways, I hope you both like them!  ;D

No Probs! He was fun to draw. It was a challenge, trying to figure out how to do it, but I think it worked out.  ;D

Well, if you guys want stuff done: PLEASE MAKE YOUR REQUESTS NOW.
Next week, I have lots of free time. This weekend, I will not. So please, if you want some drawings done, tell me now, so I can have them done by next week.

Thanks!  ;D

Can you do this guys for me?

Name: Sculrig

Species: Red Fox

Gender: Male

Age: 34

Weapons: Scimitar, Dirk, and Bow with arrows.

Physical Description: Sculrig is Tall, Strong and Sinewy with Orange-Red fur and a slight tint of Black fur at the paws. A long scar runs from his left brow to his left cheek, straight through his eye. His left eye is a normal eye with a yellow iris but his right is a milky white orb. He speaks with a deep and gruff voice.

Clothing description: Sculrig wears a tunic of sandy brown with blotches of Grog stains on it. A flat cap of Sandy Brown also is worn on his head. He wears a broad, black buckle belt tied around his waist with his dirk thrust through the right side of the belt and the scimitar through the left. Two big black Sea boots are worn on his feet. His quiver of arrows are shouldered and his bow is held in his paw.

You don't need to do the color parts if you don't want to. Thanks!

One question Are you any good at drawing squirrels? I haven't seen any. If you are not than don't worry I couldn't draw wildcats for a long time.
Title: Re: Norham's Scribbles!
Post by: Norham Waterpaw on March 21, 2014, 05:17:17 PM
I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say I'm good at drawing squirrels. I can. . . But I just don't usually draw them. None of my requests have been squirrels, and few of my characters are squirrels, so that's why I don't draw them as much.

Awesome art, Norham!  I loved the shading of One of Many.

I was wondering if I could do a large-ish request?  Three characters, two in the same drawing and one in the other.

The two-beast drawing
Lucas Bur
Name:  Lucas Bur
Gender:  Male
Species:  Rat
Age:  Undetermined, but somewhere in his thirties or forties.
Physical Appearance:  Short grey-blond fur covers the lanky beast's body, and his eyes are bright blue.
Clothing:  A white tunic and soft, faded blue trousers.
Personality:  Lucas is polite and annoyingly friendly, and on the surface, he seems like he'd make a great friend.  However, Shem doesn't feel this way, and that disappoints Lucas quite a bit.
[close]
Shem Colter, played by Rainshadow
Name:  Shem Colter
Gender:  Male
Species:  Otter
Age:  27
Physical Appearance:  Shem is a tall, muscular otter with dark brown fur.  His headfur hangs into emerald green eyes, and he has a light brown muzzle, throat, and belly.
Clothing:  A white tunic and soft, faded blue trousers.  A lounging robe of the same colour as his trousers is covering his tunic, but isn't tied on.
Personality:  The otter is smart and knows how to fight well, but doesn't like to hurt others.  He is kind and compassionate at heart, but through the seasons he's accumulated so much fear that he is known to lash out from time to time, thinking that somebeast's about to attack him.  He gets frequent headaches and can often be found talking to his "imaginary friend", Lucas Bur, who he despises.
[close]

Could you draw Lucas being friendly and Shem either glaring at him, rather annoyed, or ignoring him?  (Oh, and Shem is at least a head taller than Lucas.)
[close]
And then the single beast request...

Chief Artur Greenwick
Name:  Chief Artur Greenwick
Gender:  Male
Species:  Hare
Age:  Somewhere in his 50s.
Physical Appearance:  Artur, or Chief, as many call him, is a short and round hare, but don't let his appearance fool you.  Before he started the mental hospital, he was the chief medical officer in the Long Patrol, and he was one of the best boxers around.  The hare has ginger fur that's starting to grey at the tips, sparkling blue eyes, and his whiskers are curled into a rather dashing mustache.
Clothing:  A white, collared tunic under a dark grey shirt, and matching dark grey trousers.  He also wears a pair of thick spectacles, which slide down his nose quite often.
Personality:  Jolly and cheerful, Artur is quite a fine beast to hang around.  However, around many of the patients, he can be... well, honestly, he can be rather harsh.  He doesn't permit any funny business to happen in the wings, and is ready to crack down on anybeast who disobeys the rules.

Wylder, I won't go on a "follow your heart" rant, but to be honest, I used to think that way too.
When I was a kid (Under 13 years old) I was always jealous of my big Sister. She could draw way better than me (She still can), but eventually I just started drawing with my own style, not trying to mimic someone else.

I kept doing that, and kept. . . Well, just drawing!  ;D And now here I am.

Just keep drawing, even if you think you're not good. I don't think I'm that good, but people like the way I draw. You don't have to be good to be appreciated.  ;)
Title: Re: Norham's Scribbles!
Post by: The Skarzs on March 23, 2014, 02:19:04 AM
There is not right or wrong way to draw, Wylder. Learn to express yourself in your drawings; that makes them interesting. Also, everyone has their own style. For example: Nor's style is Nor's style. My style is way different from his, but it is my own style. To some it might be garbage (no offense) and to others: masterpieces. Art is in the eyes of the beholder; if you think your drawings are good, why should anyone tell you different? It's their loss at not seeing art.

...but eventually I just started drawing with my own style, not trying to mimic someone else.

Whereas I took the opposite route.  I started off drawing with my own style (when I was, like, six, and my style was stick figures :P), then copied one of my friend's styles when it came to dragons and people, got a book and started copying THAT style of dragon, and that's how I came to how I draw dragons now.  As for Redwall stuff, I tried to draw them my own way, but that sucked.  Then I saw Brook's tutorial and figured out how to draw heads.  I kinda copied Leatho's way of drawing the bodies, then just grew into my own style.  I still copy other people's styles quite often to improve and change my art (which is why it looks WAAAAYYYYYYY different nowadays than it did in 2012), but... yeah.

The moral of this ridiculously long and rather pointless story is, yeah, you can copy other art styles if you want to, 'cause it can actually help you improve.  In the end, though, you'll just be forming your own style and it will most likely look just like you, not like anyone else.  ;)

(And no, copying art is not plagiarism!  I just would look at the way someone drew paws and go, "Ooh, I wanna draw paws like that."  Then I see how another person drew shirts and go, "I like that, so I think I'm gonna try drawing like that."  No plagiarism!  Just... mixing and matching.  :P)

Firstly, I ran out of paper.
Secondly, I had paper all along, so I hit myself across the face.
Thirdly, my room is currently occupied by a relative staying the night.
Fourthly, Lucas and Shem are nearly impossible, so I'm just gonna' start with Greenwick.

More arts! This stuff was just done in my spare time. (Don't worry Jukka, Kaylan's still coming!)

Now, if any of you guys got into Ruin Runner, my weird game in the Forum Games area, this guy should be familiar once I'm done describing him.

Do you remember the Canyon of Mists, with the creepy smiling beasts around it.

This is one of the smiling guys.

Well, here's a doodle of the Overwatch. (Note: This was during free time, and I was not looking at the description of the Overwatch. I am not in any way trying to finalize the look of the Overwatch, or in any way steal Skarzs's idea; which by the way, was brilliant.) It's just a doodle with a name.

Sorry for the crummy quality. It was on lined notebook paper, so I didn't scan it.

Speaking of scanning, I need to scan Kaylan. (Because she's done!)

Really nice!

The only thing is the arrows. If you think about it, the rest of the arrow shaft is in the quiver. So, you should be able to take a ruler, put it in line with what you can see of an arrow, and be able to draw the rest of the shaft fitting in side the quiver boundaries.

Just think about the whole arrow, and you'll be fine. :D

Hey... since you are a much better artist than I, would you do my character from Attack and Defense? Here are his stats:

Name: Tristan
Species: Mouse
Gender: Male
Age: 34 seasons
Clothing: Green tunic belted in leather, with a light cloak over the top. Ever careful, He costantly wears a breastplate under his tunic. He also, when expecting battle, wears a mail-backed cloak, greaves, and gauntlets. He carries a shortbow across his back, a thigh quiver, and a broadsword on his belt, and carries a medium shield. He wears as footgear steel-toed leather boots.
Physical Appearance: He is tall for a mouse, and very strong, but not conspicously. He has a medium build. He is a dour, suspicous mouse. He rarely speaks, and even more rarely smiles. Ruggedly handsome to some, he has many scars from past campains and a nick in the ear.
Weapons: Trained in uses of most, except for sling. He carries a broadsword and is an expert fighter with it. He also has a poniard tucked in his boot for emergencies. He is an experienced shield fighter, one of only few who use them.
Strengths: Expert fighter: Many years of selling his sword has given him a touch with a blade few can match. Catious: He is careful to a fault, which has saved his life many times.
Weaknesses: Suspicious: He does not trust anyone, including his comrades. He has been betrayed often enough that he tries to never turn his back on anyone. However, this lessens his combat effectiveness in groups.
History: He is a mercenary, selling his sword to whoever tosses him the most coins. He has occasionally fought for vermin, though he much prefers to just kill them, when he needs money. He has been in inumerable campains and battles, fought with every weapon imaginable and against every creature. He has served as soldier and captain, bodyguard and assasin. He does not mention his history besides telling war stories, but he is an orphan. He came to the abbey simply as a stop on his way east, but as they gave him their famous hospitality, he is willing to repay them with his help, for despite being a mercenary he is a very honorable creature.

Oh. Yes, that.
In my original poll, you were telling me how good my art looked. If you didn't like it, there was a "I've seen more attractive Elephant Butts" option to show your distaste for my art.

Rusvul commented on this, fueling a somewhat mutual debate.
Anyways, that's somewhat of a running gag between he and I.   ;D

I really love those!  I must say I probably enjoyed the DDB too much for my own good, but I seriously love Tristan's clothing.  Well, his weapons, too, but mainly the details on his clothing.  ;D  (Although the details on his sword are pretty dang amazing, too.  ;))

  Awesome!  :D

Er, I don't really have a name for her yet...
Name:  I don't have a name for her yet, but I'll just call her Reila right now so she has a name.

Age:  Well, she appears to be in her late twenties or early thirties, but in reality, she's somewhere in the low hundreds.

Gender:  Female

Species:  Elf

Rank:  Er, I'll have to do some research, but for now I'll just be calling her a centurion.  (Yes, I'm basing my elves off of Roman culture.  Their armies are rather similar, as are their religions.  (Yes, I spent several hours creating a religion for my elves.  I'm also currently creating their own language and alphabet because I love going unnecessarily deep in my character development.  Did I also mention that this character is actually just a warrior in the first age of the universe, whereas the main character lives in the third or fourth age?  I'm writing the history of the land.  DETAILS!  >:D))

Physical appearance:  Reila is, like most elves, lean and tall, but she is rather muscular, her pale body looking quite like a soldier's.  Her long hair is white as snow, and is often kept in a low ponytail, and her angled eyes are violet.  Her jaw is narrow and her chin sharp, with high cheekbones of the same sharpness by her eyes.  Her ears are just as pointy, and are quite long, stretching from the side of her head to the back and top of her skull and peeking out over the top.  Oh, and her eyebrows are nearly nonexistent, and are quite hard to see as they are very light and faint.
As for scars, the elf warrior has two long scars running from her jawline on the right to the middle of her cheek.

Clothing and armour:  The she-elf wears a tan high-collared tunic and trousers under a layer of green dragon scale armour.  A dragon scale chestplate and skirt, dragon scale gauntlets, dragon scale boots, and a green helmet (with a nose guard) (not dragon scale).  She also wears a brown leather belt with a short sword sheathed on the right side, as well as a shield that is held in her right hand.

Weapons:  Reila carries an elven short sword that is held in her left hand, as well as a sling and pouch of rocks, which are on her belt, and a shield (that I can't describe, so I'm just gonna post a picture of it), which is held in her right hand.

Personality:  Reila is every bit a soldier and a leader, and is very strict at first glance.  However, if you spend some time with her, she really starts to warm up to other elves, and is occasionally friendly.  She has an odd sense of humour, though, which not many get.
The elf hates all who are not elves, especially humans, for she views them as a lowly race which should be exterminated at all costs.  She also greatly dislikes dragons, and has killed many of them.  She made her armour from one defeated beast.

Other:  Reila is left-handed.

Pose:  Could you possibly draw her in the middle of battle, commanding troops or something?  Just some sort of pose so she can be waving around her sword and shield.  ;)

Armour

Except her armour is made of green dragon scales, which are a bit like chain mail, except stronger (and prettier ;)).  Picture her armour texture as something like this:

Unless, of course, she is squashed by Skølldir, or Vaporized by Yuri.

And here we are folks! My uploads of what I've been doing recently. I'm only uploading this because I dare not share the stuff I did over the summer, because they stunk.

Anyways, here's some Awesomenauts stuff.

Genji, the Pollen Prophet.

And Clunk, being Clunk.

And Vinnie and Spike, the Plankton who rides a spiky fish and robs banks.

     -Dystopian Soldier Designs

FYI, these are people, not animals in armor.

First up, the Hound.

Second, the Sniffer. The tracking bloodhound who can smell a mouse in a bomb blast.

The Wolf, the heavy weapon wielding war-machine.

The Bernard-Class Hound (St. Bernard) who plays the role of Battle Medic.

And Lastly, the other war-machine, but meant for melee attacks and heavy crowd control. The Dane.

        -Some good old random stuff.

Some armor concept... I guess.

A creepy needle wielding doctor...

And lastly, some guy... (Who actually started out as a drawing of David Tennant, but grew a beard and got a hat...)

I really like the armour designs, but I think my favourite drawing is the last one, simply because of the description.  ;D  (The fact that he looks seriously cool does lend to my decision, though.  ;))

I replied before all of them were up; oops.

My favorite is probably the last armor design, the one you labeled as "Some armor concept, I guess."

Hey! Just because you know Yuri's better doesn't mean you have to be mean!  ;)

That one had a lot of previous ideas behind it... It started off really weird looking, and at one point, during concept designing, I had it wielding a sword...  :D

No, no, no. Yuri is more effective. Vinnie & Spike are better, because they're voiced by TotalBiscuit, making them almost as awesome as Raelynn. Who you should totally draw.

But Skølldir, being voiced by Honeydew, (Simon, from Yogscast) Makes him the best.  ;)

Personally, I prefer TB's Hearthstone videos to a lot of the stuff the Yogscast do- Though I do like the Yogscast.

Also, Skolldir doesn't have a protoblaster. Or a sniper attack.

I love the last one!  ;D Just curious how big do you draw?

Well, I usually draw using my sketchbook, which is roughly a foot in length. I tend to do one drawing per page, and yeah, that's about it.

*Tears hair out*   :o

I haven't posted here in three months...  :'(

What have I DONE???

Anyways, that's my over-dramatic way of not making a Front Lawns topic just to say "I'm Back".
It also means... Actual non-doodled art uploads!

My apologies again to Rain and Gonff who have been ever so patient in waiting for their requests. (Which... still aren't done... Sorry guys.)

I'm actually done with the concept phase for Rain's request, so hopefully that one will be up soon.  ;)
