Title: Mhera's Art
Post by: Mhera on March 11, 2015, 09:38:49 PM
Well, I can sort of draw and want to contribute more to the forum, so I figured starting an art thread might be good. I'll sketch just about anything, so ask away!

Could you draw for me a fox, just a plain one, maybe holding an axe?

Sure! Any pose in particular or just whatever?

Guess it was just whatever ;).

Thanks for the request, I'd never done a fox before so this was pretty fun to draw. :)

Woah, that's really cool, actually. I won't be asking for anything anytime soon, but I will definitely check back here if I ever want to replace my avatar or something :)

Noice. Bit angular, and slightly disproportional, but I like it! Keep up the good work, and maybe try a bit of shading to give more color and depth.

Thanks guys!

@Skarzs: Thanks for the tips; I really appreciate any constructive criticism. Proportion, shading, and angularities are all things I need to work on.

There's a roughly 99.9 percent chance I can ;D What is it?

Well, that took awhile. Sorry for the wait!

First up is Ash's wolf:

(Don't think I quite caught the "female" part...)

Then Raymond Barkfoot for Sage...

And finally a random motorcycle sketch based off of this picture (http://www.wallsforpc.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Yamaha-VMAX-Japan-Brand-Superbike-Domineering.jpg):

This is some really good stuff, I like how you take the animals and make them look rather realistic yet still redwally. I noticed how you where having trouble getting the wolf to look female. Try making the shoulders less wide, the body smaller, smother lines and less details, (This is all in compassion to how you draw a male not how you drew the wolf) another thing you could do is darken the lines around the eyes to draw attention to them (No need to draw lashes if you don't want) a slightly smaller nose.

Do you use guide lines when you draw? I find they make a world of a difference when working with proportion.

Thanks for the pointers! I use a few guidelines when I sketch, but I'm used to just going without; I learned to draw by copying comic books, so I'm relatively unfamiliar with art techniques. The thing with humans is that I know enough about anatomy to get proportion right when I want to, but with anthropomorphized animals it's trickier finding the right balance as there's no set average proportion to work off of.

The best thing you can do is observe from real life. There is this one person, Monika Zagrobelna, that dose these great tutorials on the anatomy of animals (along with other things). Here is a link to the page where you can find all her tutorials.  I would post some of my favorites but my computer is acting up... XP

I haven't been drawing much, but I did sketch this yesterday. It's not something I was planning on posting as it turned into more of an experiment than anything else, but a certain incorrigible member demanded it ;D

You might have to zoom in to make out anything. Again, it was a guinea pig drawing and part of that testing involved messing with the background :P

I really like that one! It gives a real feel of the character, and what he has seen and who he is now, and what he must do to protect his friends, country, and self, while still being the humble man is once was and still is.

Thanks, though I can't really take credit for his pose or expression or anything like that since I drew from a picture :)

I can, but a description of how you see him would be really helpful. I looked through his Wikipedia page (never read the Silmarillion) and couldn't find anything on how he looked.

Uh, Mhera? Cna you make an illustration? It needs to be a black car, flatter and longer, with a black-suited person standing next to it. Make the guy's features undentifiable, and fade the piicture to make it look as if it's being looked at through mist. Is that to hard?
