I will be hosting the first RP tournament in a couple of weeks! This will be a threaded story style duel between players. You will be assigned an opponent for your match and have a set number of posts in which to duel. After your posts are completed your writing will be judged on a set of criteria and a match winner will be chosen. Winners will advance through different brackets until the champion is decided on!
(This is different from the RP contests. This does not follow a story line. Instead, writers will duel with their characters in one on one threads.)Prizes will be awarded as follows:
Champion (color full drawing from BrookSkimmer of tournament character and an official signature of placing)
first runner up (line drawing of tournament character by BrookSkimmer and an official signature of placing)
second runner up (line drawing head shot of tournament character by BrookSkimmer and official signature of placing)
third runner up (official signature of placing)
**all participants will appear in a group picture (drawn by BrookSkimmer)**

You must make your responses in the tournament

Specific Role Play Character RulesYour character
may not wear full metal body armor. Leather type armor or partial armor (arm and leg grieves) are acceptable.
Your character
must be a canon Redwall character. (Ex. squirrel, mouse, rat, hedgehog, etc.)
Only one person may play a "favorite" character. For example if someone picks Martin the Warrior no one else may play this character. Favorites will be taken on a first come first served basis with BrookSkimmer once the applications are issued.
You may not use magic, fire arms, any type of bending (ex. air bending), or anything else like any of these things in your posts.
Do not:God-mode (make a character never take a hit)
Mary-Sue (use an "unbeatable" character)
Auto-hit (leave your posts up to the other contestant on whether they take the hit)
Judging StandardsYour posts will be judged on a point scale of 1 to 5 (1 lowest, 5 highest)
Judging will take place over these categories:
Creativity
Use of weapons
Ability to follow all in RP rules (no Godmoding, autoing, marysueing, etc.)
Once the winner is decided for the match, the winning character can make a final post stating how their character won the round.

Brook, if you can give me an idea of when this will actually start and what week(s) we'll be doing the RP I can give a more definitive answer as to whether or not I will be a contestant or assist in judging.
The tournament will begin Monday the 24th of September. From there it depends on how many entries we have. The matches last a week each. I'm thinking the tournament will conclude early to mid November. With results by the end of november and prizes awarded around Christmas. The more brackets someone progresses through the more weeks they will need to post.
Ah, okay I wasn't positive on the format....that makes the choice easier. I'm going to withdraw, and I'll help you behind the scenes instead, so I won't be taking part in the tournament. :)
So are we waiting until the sign up thread has been posted to post our characters?

So, do the different sections of the tournaments go on all week long? Because I'm not available for most of Thursdays. I can try to get on in the morning, since I have about a half an hour, but other than that, Thursdays won't work out very well. Will that be a problem?
@Rainshadow: You just need to get in three posts per duel. The duels will last a week and so you and your opponent will need to have three posts in during that time. It shouldn't be a problem if you are not on for one of the weekdays.
You can post more than three times. If you do post more than three times make sure to signify which posts you want to have judged.

Ok, I'm now back from my vacation!!!! Which was to the Sierras and so SO awesome btw. ;D Anyway... the tournament will be up and running by tomorrow at the latest.

From the time the thread goes up to a week later you must post at least three posts to be judged. You may post more but if you do signify which posts you want judged.

Brook, will major injuries(such as a paw being lopped off) in round one carry over to round two and beyond?
That is a good question... I am thinking that because we are already bending the rules of "time and space" in having characters from different times of Redwall history battling each other we can also erase injuries between rounds.
Any injuries incurred during a round will not transferring to future rounds (unless you want them too)

Basically everything resets. The change in location ought to be a challenge enough as you cannot always use the same strategies.
The Tournament will close on Monday at 7:30 AM PST. Make sure you have at least three posts in by that time.
If you are waiting on your opponent to make their posts so that you can get three in and they do not post by tomorrow afternoon, please notify me.

To everyone: I've scrolled through all of your duels and they look good! You have all reached the three post minimum (which I'm surprised and happy to see so much enthusiasm for these threads). At this point you can either have your characters keep fighting until I lock the threads tomorrow, RP your characters ending their duel on friendly terms (or not so friendly as the case may be... ;)), or have your character be finished off. Remember being injured (or having your character killed) during a duel does not mean you won't have a chance to win the round. Any of the ways I've mentioned to finish your duel are acceptable.
You are going to be judged on use of weaponry, sticking to the rules, and on how you handled writing your character. Keep that in mind as you finish your duels!
Don't forget to modify the three posts you want judged to say that you want them judged.
Also, be aware that though your other posts will not be looked at as closely, they create a general flow and feeling of your RPing skills.

I don't look for spelling/grammar errors. You culd wirte yuor messages like this and I wuoldn't care. ;) But I'll probably wonder why you'd leave it when there's a nice edit button should you make a few mistakes.
I'm not really looking for SPAG errors when I judge per say... however, SPAG errors make the flow of the writing not so great, so they do effect my judging.
