If you make more than three posts you must signify which posts you want judged.
All posts must be at least three sentences long.

Do not:
auto-hit (posting hits on anyone's character. Post your attacks and the other person will respond with whether the attack connected or not. Receiving a hit does not mean you will loose the match.)
God-mode (make your character so strong that nothing can hurt them)
Mary-sue (make your character perfect in every way)

First come, first served for posting. Your first post may or may not include an opening attack.

The quarry at twilight, an eerie place. The wind gusted through the soft stone and caused flurries of dust to rise. The area had been lit by torches in sconces, the light flickering and dancing as the wind played with it. A wide part of the quarry was roped off as boundaries for dueling contestants. The roped area included a pile of large boulders, an open sandy area, and sheer rock walls. High on the edge of the quarry rested a small booth in which the tournament judges watched.

A voice echoed down to the contestants. "Round one! Cluny the Scourge versus Coal! Begin!"

W0NWILL

Coal looked at his opponent. He hadn't signed up for this! That rat was huge! He drew back his spear in preparation to stab and started twirling his empty sling while starting to slowly circle, eying Cluny's every move.

Cluny stared intently with his one good eye (he lost the other in a battle with a pike) at his opponent, looking frightening with his battle armour. Sword in one claw and whip-like tail held in the other, he cackled insanely as he danced around his opponent, hissing. Cluny was intelligent, and intimidation had never failed before.
He suddenly made his move. He darted at the hare, lashing out with his tail one the hare's right side and jabbing at Coal's right side with his sword. The huge rat then jumped back to see if he had done any damage.

Coal gasped as the sword nicked his arm, but he wasn't bad hurt. Coal lunged, directing his spear at Cluny's footpaws and attempted to use his sling as a noose. It was a simple faint, and Coal expected Cluny to see through it. So much for trying.

Coal had half succeeded- Cluny's left footpaw was clipped on its side by the spear. He winced a bit as blood trickled from the wound, but he knew he could not allow it to hinder his duelling. Expecting the sling, he easily ducked and avoided it. While in the ducking pose he lashed out with his elbow, aiming to hit the hare in the stomach and, hopefully, wind him. He then dashed to his right side and swung his sword at about shoulder-height.

W0NWILL

Only by sucking in his stomach and stepping back a half pace could Coal avoid the elbow. Blow trickled down his arm from the new wound on his shoulder. He backed away quickly never taking his eyes from Cluny and fumbled in his sling pouch for a stone.

DanielofRedwall

Cluny the Scourge laughed as he felt the sword make contact. He watched as the hare fumbled for a stone. This is my chance! he thought, and stabbed at the hare's stomach.

W0NWILL

Coal ducked to the right. His paw was wrapped around a stone, there was no time to load it in his sling. He wildly swung it at Cluny, using it as a crude club, not bothering to aim.

DanielofRedwall

There was a loud crack as the stone connected to Cluny's jaw. He spat out pieces of broken tooth and blood, and then faced his competitor with a gapped grin, his bloody face making him appear all the more intimidating. "I've suffered worse," he laughed insanely, pointing to his missing eye. He then made a quick volley of blows with his sword, not aiming anywhere in particular, just hoping he'd cause some damage.

W0NWILL

Coal winced as the sword nicked his ear and sliced the bridge of his nose. He had the sense to back away, jabbing his spear between Cluny's slashes. Shivering in fear he was backed against the wall. He ducked and ran along the wall away from Cluny.

DanielofRedwall

Cluny advanced as the hare backed slowly in to the wall. "Got yourself trapped did you?" he said, wickedly. Suddenly, the hare was off, running along the wall in an effort to lose
Cluny gave chase, but his foe was too quick for him. The rat was quick and agile, but he was no hare. He kept running, however, hoping the hare would lose his breath. "Coward!" Cluny cried. "Come back here and fight!"
