Better late than never, time for a new contest!
So how will this work for number three?
The theme: the theme of the competition is,
write a thriller! This theme is different than the previous contests. Now I'm picking the genre of the fanfic in the spirit of Halloween. Write us a thriller to keep us on edge during the whole story. If you're curious about what makes a story a thriller, think of them as fast-paced stories that don't waste time hopping into the meat of a plot. Usually in thrillers there's always
something about to happen that we really want to see, and the author will only tell us if we keep reading. I imagine this one may be a little trickier than before, so feel free to PM me with questions!
Length: Exactly as long as it needs to be to tell the story! But please keep it in the style of a one-shot (i.e. one entry or chapter). The entry
can be an excerpt from an existing fanfic you wrote, so long as you find a way to incorporate the theme into it!
You may also nominate other peoples' works that are on the forum!Judging: I'll be judging again, but please PM me if you'd like to nominate another judge to join me this round!
Timeline: the competition begins as soon as you read this (i.e. right now!) and ends November 8,
or when it's deemed that all the forum members who'd like to participate have already submitted. Whichever comes first!
Prizes: We've got a shiny new signature badge for the first place winner!
Most importantly, how to enter: to enter, just post your fanfic on the board and include [Tammo's Competition
III] in the subject line. I'll come read it and let you know when I've finished!
That's all for now! Now for the fun part!
Ooh, sounds interesting! I might join. If I decide I can afford some time off writing my current projects.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHH! Sounds nice. I will definetly be submitting something.
Me as well!
A thriller? Forget the drabble series, I'm in.
Interesting... I think I might try one if I have time!
Wow awesome!! Let me know if you guys have questions, want to extend the contest or anything like that :)
Will do!
Hi everyone! A quick check in: I've received two PMs about extending the contest deadline. How would people feel about this?
Please do so!
I'm hesitant. On the ooooooone hand I do have something I want to write for it that's taking way too long to write (not because of anything bad or anything just that it's a long story) and so an extension would be nice. Thaaaaaaaaaaat said if I'm the only one who's gonna be writing something in this period I'm fine with just using the submission I slapped together the other day. Don't want to hold everyone else back and stuff.
Soooo er-
@Sebias of Redwall @Keva Strongbow @Jarky Thistlebrush you writing something?
Ok, let's extend it out two weeks and hold on judging until the weekend of the 22. Sound good all around? :)
Yes!
I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be able to write something. Just haven't got the time.
(I didn't even know this was going on. . .)

Huh, probably should've put out an announcement now that you mention it....
AAAAAAAAAAAAAALRIGHTY THEN! Sirs and madams, the results are in! I read three pretty solid entries for the competition. Each one of these deserve their own spotlight - check them out here:
Death Sound (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=11227.0) by
@One-Eye the wildcat an excerpt from
Meteor (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=11235.0) by
@MathLuk and
Black and White Drabbles (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=10951.0) by our previous winner,
@The Grey Coincidence However, there can only be one winner in these contests. I was looking for a story which could provide a tense atmosphere by presenting a grand obstacle in the form of some kind of opposing force. Whether that be a creepy epidemic that keeps reappearing, a looming castle full of thaumaturgy, or the environment and all its predators itself.
I was also looking for a kind of 'crucible:' something that prevents the protagonist from some kind of easy escape. It's what drives the plot, like the inescapable 'tap tap', the necessity of exploring the castle, or the dark tunnel in the lands of ice and snow.
Finally, the third element I was looking for was the clock: a sense of urgency that said, "if you don't get this done in ___ amount of time, there will be consequences." I saw these come in the form of the race to find the source of 'tap tap,' the urgency of timing in the battle between magic users, and the threat of the cold on a cold-blooded toad.
Anything beyond these three key elements was extra spice that made each of your stories more fun to experience. Nice work all around! And now, for the results...
and the winner is...
Death Sounds, by One-Eye! Congratulations!

and good job all around for your hard work you put into these stories.
Now what comes next? If the community wants another contest, I'd be happy to do one. I think this time I'd set up a poll to see how people feel about a few different themes for the contest. Let me know what you think! :)
Congratulations, to the people who took part. They're all awesome stories!
Congratulations, One-Eye!
Tammo, another contest would be indeed nice, and us voting on the topic would be a very good idea.
I would have to admit that a thriller is a very hard genre to put into writing, but I'm glad that there are no less than three well-written stories being written and submitted.
Oh, and can I have a medal for my victory in the First Competition please?
EDIT: with Tammo's mod powers: BEHOOOOLD! (https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/345920233065676811/597081133146177547/New_Piskel-1.png_4-1.png_1.png)
Tbh, my submission was really short, so I honestly had no idea I would win.
Spoiler
How do I get the medal into my signiture?
Er... copy and paste?
By using a quote?
Quote worked. Thanks, mathluk!
Congratulations, One-Eye! :) And congratulations to everyone else who submitted a story too! You all did good.
Good work, One-Eye!
How do people feel about doing a ficathon over the summer? We could make it a competition or just for fun.
Ficathon? I'm intrigued...
CONGRATULATIONS One-Eye!
(And yes, Im all for another contest- and I think the poll idea is a good one)
Thanks, guys. :)
And what would this 'ficathon' entail?

You mean Northern Hemisphere winter, right?
It is snowing here.
It is raining here. I think the Rain God must live in England or something.

What are you talking about?! Why, you had it all along. In your heart :) (look at your post in this thread I edited it in)
Thanks, Cap!

Yeah, that. *reminds self to think in Northern Hemisphere over the internet*

And what would this 'ficathon' entail?
Basically, each person has two or three story prompts that they send to the ficathon organiser person via pm. Said person then collects all of the story prompts and sends a couple to each person, who then chooses one and writes a story for it. (it doesn't have to be a set length. Make it as short or long as you like) Then, at the due date, everyone posts their stories and we all get to read them. If it's a competition, somebody will judge them or maybe people can vote and the winner will be decided.

[/quote]Huh, that sounds pretty cool. I feel like we could try that maybe after the regular fanfic competitions get a bit bigger. Sounds neat, though!
