Title: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: DanielofRedwall on March 06, 2020, 04:00:44 AM
As promised, here is our official "much smaller role-playing tournament entirely for laughs"! At the end of the tournament, the Staff will decide on a winner based on who makes us laugh the most. Feel free to get as crazy as you wish, within reason. The usual Roleplaying rules on godmodding etc. apply. The theme is "Summer at Redwall", so let this guide your posts.

I'll start below.

-

Daniel sat by the pond, sipping strawberry fizz and watching the ripples in the water as he kicked his paws (or claws? He was still not sure what animal he actually was) in the cool water. He wondered if anyone would join him?

(OOC: Are we supposed to fight each other or something?)

Teer grinned as she came out of Great Hall, looking up at the awesome sight of the glowing red walls and lush gardens and orchard. She hadn't been here long and the beautiful scene would never cease to amaze her. Pausing, she looked around for a good place to sit and enjoy the early evening sunshine, deciding on the pond as her vantage point. Grinning with delight, Teer skipped to her destination, spinning around as she did so and looking up at the clear blue sky. It was so good to be alive.

Booklover ran straight to the pond and leaped in. She was, after all, a dibbun (OOC: I decided it would be fun to be a dibbun for this), so could do what she liked, as long as she didn't hurt anyone, because that was naughty and she'd be sent to bed early. With no dinner! And, worst of all, the badger muvva would force her to have a bath! Except... wasn't that what happened when she went in the pond without supervision because that was dangerous and she might drown? As far as she could tell, 'dangerous' usually meant 'fun', so there couldn't be anything wrong with it, surely, and there was someone at the edge of the pool. Deciding that it was, after all, perfectly allowed, Booklover began splashing around and trying to swim, hoping somebody else would join her. Playing on her own was not quite as fun.

(OOC:  That's Otterbadger muvva to you!)

Kadette prowled out of the Abbey, blinking in the morning sun.  The Otterbadgermother had heard the sounds of some rambunctious dibbun heading for the pond, and wanted to make sure the little troublemaker wasn't, well, getting into trouble.  Plodding in that direction, he found a few creatures already gathered there and called out to the nearest one.

"Good morning Teer, you look rather happy this morning.  Not planning any mischief, I hope?"  He said, a small smile gracing the Otterbadgermother's features as he rubbed her head fondly.  Teer was a good child, full of energy and always willing to help a beast in need, but sometimes she could be a tad naughty, though only so much as to make the older beasts shake their heads while trying to hide smiles.

But this is a roleplay tournament, which definitely implies fighting, to some extent.

Another thing:

Excuse me?! What do you mean 'child'? I'm a perfectly responsible adult and I'm actually quite considerably ancient, having hatched over a millenia ago. Have some respect for your elders!

Also, are you male or female? It's kind of hard to tell from your post.

Teer skidded to a halt when she saw the Redwall Otterbadgermother and stood still, smiling innocently.
"G'morning Mother. Of course I'm not planning any mischief. In fact, I was just going to the kitchens to ask the friar if he wants some help cleaning up from breakfast."
Teer kept her smile, hoping the Otterbadger wouldn't point out the fact that she was going in the opposite direction to the kitchens.

OOC:  Tournament doesn't imply fighting, just competition, and we're competing to see who can make the Mods laugh the most by the end of it.  Also note, it doesn't say we're role-playing a tournament, but that it's a role-playing tournament, meaning it's a tournament to see who can role play the best towards the given goal, which is making the mods laugh.

And the theme "Summer at Redwall" doesn't really make one think of "I have to fight EVERYBODY", now does it?  ;D

As for your char, my character is currently acting as the Otterbadgermum, and in the context of Redwall, the (Otter)badgermother is always the oldest creature in the Abbey.  I'm simply playing into my role  ^-^

And my characters name is Kadette, and he is the current Otterbadgermother of Redwall.  Hope that cleares up some confusion ^_^

Ebantu smiled as the sunshine touched her face. The weather was lovely and hot; perfect for a swim. The young wildcat ran to the pond, her pawsteps cushioned by the mossy grass. She leapt past Booklover and disappeared into the cold water, sending wavelets rippling towards the bank. Ebantu swam underwater back to the small creature by the edge, surfacing beside her and laughing at the wonderful fresh feeling of the water.

OOC: Literally anything goes, so long as it progresses naturally. Fight if you want, or don't, up to the participants. :) Also, this will just go for as long as the extravaganza goes for, so it probably won't be an ongoing thing, just have fun.

"The kitchens, eh?"  Kadette asked Teer, a small, knowing smile on his face.  "My, how kind of you, my dear!  I'm sure the friar would be quite pleased to have such an able creature assisting him this morning!"  He then looked around in mock confusion, putting his paws on his hips.  "Though I don't know how you got here!  We're quite a ways away from the kitchens.  Tell you what, why don't you stay here instead and help me make sure we don't lose any dibbuns in the pond.  How does that sound?"  He said, the grey speckled fur on his face crinkling in a smile.  Suddenly, Ebantu went flying past them before diving into the lake, causing the Otterbadgermother to shake his head.  "As you can see, I'll probably need some help!"
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 07, 2020, 05:15:05 AM
Teer slowly moved away from the otterbadgermother and towards the pond, hoping the kindly otterbadger had lost interest in her. She froze and her shoulders slumped slightly as Kadette addressed her again, bringing up the exact detail she'd wanted to go unnoticed.
"Well, you see, I just noticed-" Teer stopped talking, realising the otterbadger hadn't stopped and hanging her head. There was another thing to add to her problems. The mother of Redwall was a very gentle and kind hearted beast but she had high standards about respect for ones elders, which didn't involve interrupting them. Her thoughts distracted her so much that she missed most of what he was telling her, only hearing the last part of the sentence as Ebantu dashed past them and jumped into the water.
"I'd be happy to help you. The friar isn't expecting me so I won't be letting him down at all. Speaking of which, Booklover looks like she might be drowning. I better go rescue her."
The last few words were said hurriedly over her shoulder as Teer ran, full tilt to the water's edge, tripped on her own paws and rolled several times in the shallows, scooping Booklover up with her footpaws on the way past.
"What have you been told about drowning, little one? Come, I'll teach you how to have real fun in the water."
So saying, Teer released the dibbun and bent down for the young one to climb on her back, spying a quick look at the otterbadgermother.

Goodness gracious, young ones these days have so much energy.  The Otterbadgermother thought ruefully to himself as Teer quickly dashed off.  She obviously hadn't been paying attention, but it was spring!  If young creatures like her couldn't have fun now, then when could they?  Kadette smiled and waved at Teer as she looked back to see if she was in trouble.  Far be it from him to put a stop on such enthusiasm.  Pulling his skirt up a bit, he wandered paw deep into the edge of the ponds water, feeling the coolness between his toes.  If he was younger, he might have joined them, but he... he couldn't possibly do such a thing now.

Ebantu jumped aside as Teer (OOC: Are you still a taniwha?) stumbled into the pond, spraying water in all directions. She smiled slightly and dived under again, reveling in the cool water flowing through her thick fur.

OOC: Yes, I am a taniwha, though I'm set to about otter-ish size.

Teer squirmed and looked away hurriedly as she realised the otterbadgermother still hadn't diverted her attention to other beasts. She hoped she wouldn't get into trouble for whatever she'd done to attract the senior beast's attention in the first place. Having to fold sheets in the infirmary on a day like this would be torture.

One-Eye, a thin male wildcat with brown fur was sleeping on top of a rock next to the pond. The sound of Ebantu in the water caused the cat's single eye to open, then close as he realized it was just a fellow Redwaller. "Hello, Ebby. Lovely day, isn't it?"
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: Ebantu the Kararehe on March 09, 2020, 06:37:32 AM
Ebantu kicked towards the bank where One-Eye rested and sat in the shallows. "Indeed it is. Absolutely beautiful." she replied,  watching the sunlight reflect and dance on the clear water. She idly skimmed a stone across the surface of the pond, counting each skip.

Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 09, 2020, 08:55:02 AM
Teer watched Eb's skipping stone, grinning in appreciation as it hit the opposite side of the pond.
"Nice. I've never been very good at skipping stones but Mharbrow taught me the other day and I actually managed to get it, which made me happy."
Teer grabbed a stone and flicked it, watching in delight as it skipped twice on the surface before sinking to the bottom.
"Yes! That's my best score yet. You count the skips by how many ripples are on the water, so that means three skips. Pretty impressive, huh?"

Seeing the young ones having such fun made Kadette feel young again himself.  Plodding over to where Teer and Ebantu, the Otterbadger"mother" decided he would give it a try as well.

"Now now, dearies, let this old Otterbadger show you how it's done."  Looking about, he found a good sized stone and tossed it up and down to feel it's weight.  Satisfied that he made a good choice, the Otterbadger"mother" reared back like a pitcher on the mound and released the stone with a blood curdling yell,  "HAVE AT THEE, FOUL CUR!"  A baritone, and obviously male voice rang out across the water as the stone hurdled out of his paw.  Flying in an almost straight line over the pond, the stone didn't even touch the water before embedding itself in a tree trunk on the opposite side.

The Otterbadger"mother" cleared his throat abashedly, putting back on his fake falsetto.  "Goodness gracious, I seem to have put a bit too much strength into that one."

Teer wordlessly pointed to Kadette, her eyes wide with a mixture of alarm and admiration. She blinked at the Otterbadger, seeing her in a completely new light.
"Can you teach me how to do that?"

"Ooh! Ooh! Me wanna go! Me wanna go!" The mischievous Dibbun yelled as loud as she could (but nowhere near as loud as the Otterbadgermother had done).
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying

The Otterbadgermother smiled warmly at Teer.  "Of course, dear.  It just takes a little bit of gumption, after all!"

He searched about for another stone, but stopped when Booklover called out to him excitedly.  "Oh, you want to go on a trip, little one?  Well I believe I can certainly help you there!"

With that, the Otterbadgermother walked over and picked up the tiny babe in one paw, and then looked back at Teer.  "It's all about the form really.  Let me know when you're ready for me to throw again; you'll want to play very close attention after all."
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying

Teer grinned nervously, looking at the young one in the otterbadgermother's paws.
"You're not going to throw Booklover, are you?"
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: Kade Rivok on March 11, 2020, 11:21:51 PM
A joyous look crossed the Otterbadgermother's features.  "But of course!  What kind of beast would I be to deny a babe their fun?  Needless to say, I won't use as much strength as last time.  Now, watch closely."

Kadette then reared back once more, carefully holding Booklover in his paw, and fluidly moved his arm and body together, launching the Dibbun with another baritone, bone-rattling shout.  "VICTORY OR DEATH!"

Booklover flew forth and skipped across the pond multiple times before ending her journey safely in a soft bush on the other side of the water.  The Otterbadgermother wiped his brow in mock relief, switching back to his fake falsetto.  "There, you see?  Nothing to it!"
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 12, 2020, 09:44:51 AM
Teer blinked several times, then grabbed a rock and brought it high above her head, taking a deep breath before bellowing the challenge at the top of her lungs.
"NOT VICTORY, DEATH!"
So saying, she hurled the rock into the water, sending up a huge splash and overbalancing in the process, creating another splash as she fell back into the water. Getting to her paws, Teer looked at the otterbadgermother hopefully.
"Did I do it right?"

Kadette pulled a towel out from somewhere and dried Teer off with it.  "Very close, darling.  Your form was nice, but you lost control a bit at the end.  Also, you probably need to work on your warcry a tad."

The Otterbadgermother put the towel away as he finished drying the small Taniwha.  "There, good as new."  He said warmly.

Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 13, 2020, 01:46:52 AM
Teer shook her scales back into place and grabbed another stone, frowning as she tried to think of a way to improve her warcry.
"Maybe I should just make one up. Oooh, I know what it should be."
Lifting the rock above her head, she slammed it down into the pond, yelling at the top of her voice.
"BOILED TURNIPS AND NETTLE BROTH!!!"
Her arms windmilled a bit but she managed to stay upright this time, grinning as she watched the huge splash, then the ripples as the water settled again.
"Did I do it right this time?"

"Teer, stop or there will be no water left in the pond!" Ebantu shouted as she scrabbled backwards out of the water and onto dry land. She shook herself thoroughly and glared with disapproval at the taniwha. "Seriously. I was having a nice time until that happened."

The young taniwha smiled apologetically at her friend, her eyes twinkling.
"Deepest apologies, Eb. I think you're exaggerating a fair bit about the water in the pond though. I'm not doing that well."
Teer looked around for another rock, picking a suitable one from the ground and hefting it experimentally.
"This is fun."

"I'm going to see if I can climb the Abbey walls."

Ebantu instantly dropped the stick and rushed after Shisteer, pocketing her knife as she ran. "Teer! Wait for me!" The small wildcat caught up with her friend and jumped onto her back. "Onward!"
A sudden though struck her and she dropped to the ground. "We should see if there's any raidable food in the kitchen afterwards." she whispered to the taniwha.

Teer grinned and increased her pace to the wall, an excited grin on her face.
"Yes! In my experience, all food is raidable food. Let's get started already before somebeast tries to stop us."
So saying, the taniwha found a few decent pawholds and began her assent.

A rock zipped through the air and thudded into the stone wall just above Teer with a crack.  Smiling winningly, the Otterbadgermother called out to the rambunctious duo, tossing another rock up and down in his paw.

"Now now, dearies.  Young 'uns aren't allowed on the walls or ramparts!  You should probably get down before somethng... terrible happens."
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 16, 2020, 09:28:53 PM
Teer froze as the rock hit the wall and splintered, carefully going over her options. It was either come down, miss fun and probably be on dishes duty for the entire season for trying, or keep going, incur the otterbadgermother's wrath, be on dishes duty for the next four seasons and have a huge amount of fun anyway. Doing dishes wasn't that bad and, if anything terrible happened, as the otterbadgermother suggested, she could always use her wings.
Her decision made, Teer continued up the wall as fast as she could, gaining the halfway mark a lot quicker than she had been expecting. No turning back now. The young taniwha grinned with excitement and kept climbing.

The young wildcat jumped in fright as the rock smashed into the wall. She struggled for a moment to keep her grip on the wall and yelped indignantly as Shisteer scrambled up towards the battlements.
"Hey! Coward!" Ebantu gritted her teeth and dug her claws more firmly into the cracks between the bricks of the wall. she pushed off with her hind legs and propelled herself several feet up, quickly finding new pawholds. She reflected with wrath of the Otterbadger's words. 'Young 'uns aren't allowed on the walls or ramparts'! I'll have her know I'm almost fourteen seasons of age! I'll show him I'm no longer the 'young 'un' I was. The annoyance fueled her energy and she climbed faster after her friend.
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 17, 2020, 05:45:21 AM
Teer found some decent pawholds and paused, waiting for her friend to catch up.
"I'd be a coward if I gave in and didn't climb the wall. As it is, I'm not sure how the term coward applies to my present situation."
As the wildcat came level with her, Teer grinned broadly and began climbing again.
"One thing I am sure of: I talk too much."

Kadette, the Otterbadgermother, stepped forward peered over the ramparts and down at the two that were climbing up the wall.  My, what rambunctious ones, they are.  That's how it should be, I suppose. he thought to himself ruefully.  Waving, he smiled down at the pair.

"You two are much better climbers than I'd given you credit!  Almost makes me wonder if you two aren't part squirrel!"
Title: Re: Summer Time Roleplaying
Post by: shisteer of nothing much on March 17, 2020, 06:12:01 AM
Teer blinked, wondering how the otterbadgermother had got from the pond to the top of the wall without her noticing. She shrugged fatalistically, still climbing. I'm going to be in huge trouble anyway. There's no sense in trying to avoid her. Otterbadgers live a lot longer than other beasts so I'll most likely have to deal with it eventually.
Looking up, the young taniwha smiled boldly, her mind going over her family trees.
"I think my great great grandfather's second cousin's great uncle was a squirrel, now that you mention it."

Speaking of squirrels, one dashed out on the ramparts alongside Kadette. "Ach!" Verdauga exclaimed, doing his best to imitate a highland hare, "will ye braw beasties please refrain from throwing things at the infirmary? Ah narely jumped out o' me fur!" Turning to the otterbadgermother, he gave a lazy grin, saying "And when do ye think the food's gonna be out, eh? Keeping beasts fitter 'n me fiddle is a right famishing work, donchaknow!"

Teer's head popped up over the rampart to the side of where the otterbadgermother was standing, the taniwha's grin broadening as she leapt to the walkway and dashed off.
"Yeah, cook me! It's save having to do all those dishes."
Arrow zipped through the air and hit the young beast, bouncing harmlessly off her scales as she looked out of the abbey, alarmed to see the ditch teaming with vermin.
"Everybeast get down!"
Turning, Teer raced back to the otterbadgermother, knocking her flat just in time as another arrow zipped overhead.

OOC: Just thought I might add a bit of drama here. If anybeast objects, I can edit my post.

OOC: I'll edit my post as well, but for now I'm going with it

BIC: Verdauga glanced at the vermin horde, holding to character and saying, "Och, will these braw buckoes nevah leave us alone?" His charade ended when an arrow flew startlingly close to him.
"On second thought, I think I'll get some weapons. Attack!"

Teer shook her head, laughing at the squirrel's antics despite herself.
"Much as I'd like to mash them and give 'em to the Friar for a pastie, I think we should let the elders decide what's going to happen. Let's go get the dibbuns inside."

{It was more like I was calling attention to the fact that we are under attack, but okay.  ;D}

Verdauga ducked an arrow before eyeing Teer. "I might need to get some scales myself." Glancing down at Booklover, he flashed a demented grin at Shisteer before jumping off the wall, calling "I'll get this one!" as he fell.

Ebantu swung over the ramparts just as the first arrow struck Shisteer. She glanced it, lying on the walkway, and ran for the Abbey. "I'll be back momentarily!" she shouted, not waiting to check if anybeast had heard her.

Teer flew to the ground, then ran as fast as she could towards the beasts at the pond, scooping up three of them without even checking to see who she'd grabbed before running into Great Hall.
"Vermin surrounding the Abbey!"

One-Eye was sleeping peacefully. At least, until an arrow landed on the rock he was on and caused an awful noise. He got up, and another arrow zipped over the ramparts. "Oh dear." said One-Eye, before running into the abbey to retrieve his combat gear.

OOC: How do bedrooms work in Redwall Abbey? Is there, say, a girls' dormitory and a boys dormitory? Or does one have a private room or share with someone? (Teer and I, for example)

OOC: there are some dormitories, and some have their own rooms. I don't think there are gender specific ones.

OOC: Thanks. I can't really remember why I asked anymore :P
