What's your favorite weapon from Redwall?
Please try and choose something other the the sword of Martin
Mine is probably a mace
Mine is a Dagger ( besides martin's sword. ) Gonff's daggers that is.
It's kinda a toss-up between Cregga's axe-pike and Brocktree's sword. But if I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably choose the sword.
Claymore.
Seriosuly, my absolute favorite weapon ever, mainly Highlander version of the sword. As baskit-hilted swords go, the rapier, naemly longer and sharper the better for my liking, and baskit-hilted claymores are the best ever.

I know what you mean. Those Highland weapons are just awesome. I considered at one point getting a dirk to mount on my wall.
Whaaat, no sword of Martin? :D Alright then, I'll have to say Cregga's axepike, hands down!

She barely used her halberd, at least as a halberd. Just go banging several dozen vermin up as she rushs through a spread of villains, knocking and flailing wildy as she went. Yup, berserk, but nice.

That's what made Cregga such an awesome badger lady. Fabulous character, but I'm getting off topic. Now you mention it, considering how she spent most of the book forging it, Cregga really didn't use it all that much...
Still, nice to see something other than a sword, too.
Gullwhacker!!!
Lot's of cool weapons here 8)
Well, weapons are a major theme of the Redwall books, I'd say they're almost up there with food. :) Weapons say a lot about characters: their strengths, weaknesses, etc. For example, only an incredibly strong badger could wield a massive battle-axe, and Gorath uses a pitchfork because he's a farmer at heart.
True! I forgot about Gorath's pitchfork - useful in more ways than one. :D
Let's not forget the myriads of characters who used kitchen knives tied to window poles!
Or Dumble's paddle. Lol
And the most creative weapon ever used....hotroot pepper bombs!

I would probably use a dirk. I don't think I would ever have the honor of use Martin's sword.
The gullwhacker is the coolest weapon. You can make it from any rope. It can be a weapon or a method of egress. It also is Mariel's weapon which makes it even cooler.
i like the Taggerungs (how ever u spell it lol) dagger! i think its pretty cool!

I'm geussing you mean the dagger Tagg Deyna used. That was Sawney Rath's dagger, which he [Sawney] prided himself over.
Well, it would probably be Sunflash's mace, that was pretty sweet. (speaking of weapons, I got a sword for my birthday :D)

dang i keep quoteing wrong messages lol. hmm i gotta fix tht...
No Martin's sword? Awwwww.... Ok then, Sunflash's mace, tung (Gorath's weapon) and the shrew's rapiers.
Does Razzid Wearat's ship count as a weapon? I thought that was a pretty clever idea, myself...
I also like how Grumm Trencher uses hid ladle as a weapon! ;D ;D ;D

I think you have a definite point there, Osu.
I like Lonna's bow and arrow from Loamhedge. Or Grath Longfletch's from Pearls of Lutra.
Woohoo! I love having points. ;D
Bows and arrows are fabulous, fabulous weaponry. They're a lot harder to use than they look, too - for me, at least. XD Lonna most definitely had an epic bow, I'd forgotten about him..
Sometimes a good, sturdy ash stave is the best! Or any sort of stick/stave, look at Lord Russano the wise, Russa Nodrey, most of the redwallers facing Cluny's hoard, and good ole' Jum Gurdy (and many others I've probably forgotten to mention) _

Yeah, those throwing knives. They were awesome.
I remember really liking how Nagru used his claws as weapons as well.
I liked Buckler's sword from the sable quean and Tammo's dirk and the all mighty Gullwhaker. Dose the Joesph Bell count as a weapon? coz if so that is on my list as well.
Mine is probably the sling. (Used by most Redwall creatures and otters)
It is simple, yet deadly.
rakkety tam's claymore. hefty, sharp and elegant to look at.
Yea the bombs were sweet! I like a simple staff like Russa's or Joseph's or All of the redwaller's when defending themselves from Cluny and (SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!).
The crew of the greenshroud. After all, a hardwood stave is what killed the wearat right?
It shows skill and experience. Plus, it has an infinate amount of uses, therefore, in my opinion, you can't choose anything better.
Besides the sword of Martin, Hot root pepper bombs and Gonff the mousetheifs dagger.

THOSE PEPPER BOMBS WERE HILARIOUS!!! ;D loved them!
of course some creatures, especially hares, just use their fists for weapons Stiffener Medick for example (Lord Brocktree)
I also like Bows and arrows, I always liked them.
I'm surprised only one person so far has mentioned slings! That's my favorite.
Inspired by the series, I made my own, out of braided yarn and a strip of denim from old jeans. Since I had to guess the yarn's length before I braided it, though (because of the way I attached it to the denim), the cords ended up turning out much shorter than I expected - only about three feet long. I could use it, but not very accurately; I could get it to go in the right direction, but not much better. I think it could be improved by longer cords and coming up with a good way to twirl it. I have it put away somewhere; I really should find it and take a picture of it.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVe throwing spears and javelins!!!
I would have to say the Longbow. I like how sometimes, when the vermin are doing a siege, the vermin's arrows are so puny, and the Hares come with their big longbows.

Actually a long time ago, I did get to do some archery in a gym class, and practice outside at a range. I wasn't too bad at it. They've proven deadly in Redwall, so that's my choice. :)

The bows modern people use are actually pipsqueak compared to the bows used by people in the medieval age and the warbows in Redwall (warbows are the ones that Clary used against Greypatch in Mariel and the ones that Cregga used to kill the Marlfox). Still a bow is a good weapon, but you need a LOT of training. Do you know those warbows were so powerful, the bowmen actually grew a ##:1057 of muscle just to draw them to full length. It took a little under 200 pounds of force to draw the bow to full draw. And when fired, these arrows could pierce thick armor. However, what was even more scary was that a professional bowmen could shoot 12 of these arrows, in a minute. So yep, bow is a VERY SCARY weapon, but you need to do some major practice with it to use it effectively.
^ I'm no expert in bow and arrow and haven't actually used one in years. I wasn't trying to compare the medieval bow to the modern bow. Cool facts all the same on their deadliness. :) When reading the books, its pretty obvious how deadly the bow is...I don't believe many survive an arrow anywhere in their body.

True that.
I like broadswords, they are pretty awesome.
They deal an heavy blow, but it takez a braw amount o' strength to wield them, nay tae mention they often zlow ye dan.
That's why only STRONG creatures use them........ Duh ::)
I still must say, a wooden staff is the best. Anybeast can use it, but only the skilled can successfully wield it and come out on top. Plus it's uses are infinite! :o

Their names were Southpaw and Bobweave.
Tammo's dirk is cool
Captian rake Nightfur's Twin claymores. ;D
I really like archery, but I am terrible at it. Martin the Warrior's sword is pretty cool.
I also really like daggers. The Sgain Dhu and the dirk are my favorite kinds of daggers. The big, curved sword that the searats tend to use are also awesome.
mines a sword
I feel that bows and arrows are the most useful weapon because they are the only weapon that can kill from very long range, especially longbows

Either Brother Gelf's (at least I think it was him) awesome inventions in MarlFox, or am and Doogy's Sgian Dhu.
A pitchfork, good for throwing and for stabbing. cooool.

"Don't forget to add your fists!" Nightfire chimes in, doing a mock boxing stance and throwing out a few left hooks.
Right! All those boxing hares were absoballylutely awesome! Wot, wot! :D :D
Bloodrath.
That's pretty much the best weapon
Not necessarily. Bloodwrath is awesome, for sure. But as frightening or cool it may be there are disavantages:
- When one is possed with bloodwrath, you are heedless of all else but the ones you want to kill. When this happens one may not notice the wounds (of which may be serious) that you get. These wounds could be life-long, and could lead to death.
- Many a time the one with bloodwrath cannot follow real sense, but instead follows his or her anger. Anger is not one to be followed.
- He or she is not in control of their strength. Though many think they are only harming the bad beast, they could also be endangering their fellow warrior
Throwing daggers, a bow, and the awesome rapier like the one Buckler owns! =D
How about a dirk and a time honored battle cry EULALIAAAA!!!!!!!
My fav weapons in order of awesomeness:
1: Broadsword.
2: Longbow
3: The Bloodwrath
4: Sgain Dhu
5: Dirk
6: My Paws
7: Blowpipe and Poison Darts
8: Marlfox's Axe
9: Claymore
10: Crossbow

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten about those. ;D
marlfox axe, zaran's sword, axtel's hammer
double handed claymore this is all i have tae say ye ken?

Russa's stick!
dagger all the way
Well, I've always liked slings, but I also really like Grumm's laddle...
You guys have all your fancy bows and swords sure but the ladle is the only weapon you can eat zoop with ;D ZOOOOOOOOOOP
Haha Grumm's ladle ftw.
Also, Otter Rockcreams.
Badger lord Russano the wise's stave was a very formidable weapon and a favorite of mine.
Yeah, that was one of the most interesting weapons
Suflash's mace
Cluny's tail.

My second favourite would be Boar's sword, because I pictured it looking pure awesome.
probably rakkety tams claymore
For some reason, whever Tam's claymore is mentioned, then I think of a flimsy sword made out of dirt. Stupid, I know, but that's how my mind thinks of it.
I love Russa Nodrey's stick!!!!
Not the sword of Martin? :-[
Either Gorath's pitchfork or badgers' bare paws.
Cornflower's kitchen knife she gave to Matthias. Either that or Martin's sword.
My favourite weapons are:
1. Pistol.
2. Shotgun.
3. Firebomb.
4. Knife.
5. Arrow and bow.
There are no pistols, shotguns or firebombs in Redwall.
I like the bow and arrows, that way you don't neccessarily have to be close to your enemies, like you have to be with other weapons, like swords. :)
bow and arrows are actually melee and ranged you could stab somone with and arrow
Mine is probably a sling! Not the new fangled ones, the ones you had to swing around...
Arrows are definitely the safest weapons to use, but the most satisfying would probably be the sword. Why shoot them when you can cut their heads off?
anything that causes damage ;D
QuoteArrows are definitely the safest weapons to use,
Not really since the enemy archers will be firing back and your a lot less likely to dodge a hail of arrows than block a sword/club/axe/spear.
True. I like spears the best, 'cos they're long, and you can cause quite a bit of damage.
pike (not the fishy)
i really like the sling shot used by tiria wildlough from the book, High Rhulain. 8) i hear she never misses!

But it's easier to hide behind a rock and shoot at someone than hiding behind a rock and swinging a sword at someone.
Well you won't get shot but you won't be hitting anything either.
You can stand up, fire, and duck down again.
QuoteYou can stand up, fire, and duck down again.
Firing an arrow is not that easy, long bowman generally could only shoot about ten times a minute without aiming and it usually misses even on open ground.
But skilled archers, even when hiding in a tree, can fire once every three seconds.
i like dirks and anytype of sword, also slings and bows'n'arrows
I think spears, lances, pikes, and javelins are sadly under-used. There are some creatures who use them effectively, Felldoh for instance, but it would've been nice to see more.
I like swords, daggers, slings, bow and arrows and pikes. ;D In short anything that causes damage. 8)
I love Bows and Arrows (and not because I am a good shot with them)
but Whats the use of a long range weapon if the foe is to close? So my second is either a dirk or short sword.
slings, bows and arrows, or daggers
There are lots of weapons in all different games but some weapons are special and have some unique power added to it. MY favourite weapon is Bow and Arrow so I can point anyone from far.
What! no Mention of Orlando's eponymous Axe? for shame, my friends!
Battleaxes are awesome! 'course, I'm of scandinavian descent, so that might be a genetic thing...
Double-headed axes are best, but bearded axes work in a pinch, too. I like a nice long handle, for better reach, but a short handle works best when one is armed with a shield.
And on the subject of bows, what about a repeating crossbow? the Romans invented 'em. They had a forty-bolt magazine, and could launch a bolt about once a second if fired correctly. Basically a machine gun without the gun powder. range of about 50 yards.
I'm skeptical of the one bolt per second thing. The slow thing about crossbows were not the reloading of the bolts themselves, it was the cocking mechanism. The reason a crossbow was such a powerful weapon was because of the force behind the bolt, which in turn has to have a lot of force to chicken it. In Medieval times they had to use cranks to chicken their crossbows because they weren't strong enough to do it themselves.
Mine would have to be the shrews Rapiers. "Fur and Freedom!!!!!!"
No Martin's sword...well...I think I like bow and arrows :)
grumms ladle! 8)
Hard to say. It's ether the normal sword (not Martin the Warrior, ever though it's awesome) or double sided battle ax.
My favorite weapon is the sling. Can own some unsuspecting sea vermin. I also like the Bow and Arrows man. That is the best because it hits so far away.
Longgggggggggggg bow! Dirk! ;D There should be a pole.
I would say a sword or Zarans double bladed sword.
BOW AND ARROW!!!!! WWWhhHHHHHOOOOAAhHH
I kinda like dirks, now that I think about it.
Definitely a cutlass! Love em!
crossbows, or crossbow :'(
Those have a slight drawback (no pun intended) they are powerful and accurate... But they are INCREDIBLY slow!
Bow and arrows or a dagger.
Hmm. Maybe just a regular sword too.
The Bow and Arrows are awesome weapons
Hmm....Well, for starters, there's Tammo's dirk
Awesome weapon.
The Highland claymore swords RULE.
In those cases it is not so much the weapon as the wielder that makes it awesome.
a sword
My favourite is Cregga's axepike. It's my second choice because you said anything but sword of Martin.
I have seen lots of weapons but I specially likes Bow and Arrows which are very royal weapons and look awesome. I also like sling.
I love Orlando's axe and Urthstripe's spear. :)
Bows and Arrers!
The bows and arrows are great power ;D
Tis the claymore for me!
no kiddin ;D
"The Sword of Martin" is mine. I love the way Matthias using this weapon against enemies. ;D
Mee'Broadsword of course!
there is a rule against saying martin's sword. and i still like crossbows, no matter what others may think.
Crossbows are powerful, to be sure.
My favorite is Martin's Sword.
Window poles. Lol. And brooms.
Shard- "You mean to tell me that ye were defeated by mice waving broomsticks?"
Later, Captain Derron Fortindom- "My appologies for the mice."
Lol, I loved that part in Rakkety Tam and I've love the idea of mice defending the Abbey with broomsticks. Not very efficient, but funny. And you have to give the mice credit!
I think bows are super cool, despite not knowing how to use them.
I would probably pick any sword and sheild, the two are like bread and butter.
I'm quite partial to daggers.
The Taggerungs knife. Totally epikal.

crossbows are cheating! a real archer uses a longbow, crossbows take no skill to shoot effectively! i am Rusvul the Sabre, i fight with my light sabre, (uncreatively named Fang) my three knives of the same build but in various sizes, and my body! if i am disarmed, whatever is at hand! that is more than one weapon i suppose. if i had to pick one weapon, it would be the sabre or the sling. i am actually pretty good with a sling irl. as for a sabre, i have been trying to make a good one, and they are looking like knives, not sabres. i would have to forge them a lot more to make a sabre i suppose....

it is! in medevail times it was considered a dishonorable weapon. it requires no skill at all whatsoever. loading it took more work than shooting. longbows are a very honoroble way of skewering your enemy.
Yes But if your fighting for your life It would hardly matter if you used an honourable weapon or not.
I've always been a fan of the good old-fashioned bow and arrow. ;D
Same! I hate crossbows, though they're cool, bows are cooler. To load and fire a crossbow, you need to be totally ripped from the waist down, and the waist up you can be a wimp.

you can only use a crossbow from a very far distance. if you arent in a tree or on a wall it is useless cause it takes literally a minute to load. a good archer with a longbow can fire off, i believe its 5 or six shots, if its lonna bowstripe, probably ten. (although irl thats not possible)

I believe you could say something similar about bows. Like: bows are useless in close quarter combat because enemy can swing his sword faster than you can reload, aim and shoot.
In my opinion, just because one weapon is better in certain situation than the other doesn't mean it is inherently superior. No matter if it's a bow, sword, crossbow, spear, mace or any other weapon.

Very well said. With my physical build, long bows and daggers or short swords fit best.
I personally am best with a light sword, like a rapier, though I would like a hybrid rapier like Buckler's. My best weapons would be a sling and a hybrid broadsword, thinner than most, and light and easy to wield.
On another note, I like Buckler's weapon, and Cregga's weapon.

Out of curiosity, when was skewering someone ever honorable? If you have the strength to load the thing, then you bally well have the right to shoot it! A crossbow takes a REALLY long time to load.

Crossbows are powerful, to be sure.
crossbows are cheating! a real archer uses a longbow, crossbows take no skill to shoot effectively!
If it requires no skill then surely it is easier to use.

Seconded, I could never load one of those things, and for those who can, they should be able to shoot it. You never see a soldier these days with a bow screaming at the enemies, "I will win because bows are more honorable than guns!" that poor guy wouldn't stand a chance. The new technology isn't less "honorable" than the old, it's just more effective.

I totally agree (go figure) If someone come at me waving a P-90, I'm not going to engage him with a Rifle... That would be plain stupidity. A crossbow is just a weapon that can reach farther, and fly faster than most other weapons (though Long bows are well known for their having greater range than any other bow-type hand held weapon.
better to engage and try to win, rather then running and getting shot in the back, right? ;)
I think it would be so epic if the Redwallers used action movie guns. I can picture Skipper and Lady Amber using them
Fire-swinger is my favourite. It is a kind of missile weapon which is used to destroy enemy ships.
Hmm, I really like bolases...

ha ha yea ::) like i would ever touch that nasty thing
It was an awesome weapon!
Hm...at first I would have told you a bow, but after RPing my chars for awhile, I'd have to say a javelin or staff suits me better. After that, a sword of some sort. But for long-range fighting, a bow is my weapon of choice.
My brother likes Tam's claymore and lances.
I like Tam's Sghian Dhu.
Spears!
matins sword in most cases.
I've always liked my double-bladed battle axe!
Long Sword is my favourite. It is a doubled bladed weapon which is flexible.
Matins sword is my favorite weapon in red wall.
Buckler's Rapier.
I kind of like Swaney Rath's blade
I thing a sword and bow an' arrows.
mine is martins shield i know you said no sword but his sheild
is my favorite
I like swords for battle, bow and arrows for long distance, and a dagger for all purpose.
daggers
double-blade sord of Zaran
Martin's Sword
Brocktree's broadsword

Martin's Sword
I've changed my mind; I prefer "unarmed" combat
Axes and swords.
Definitely Rake Nightfur's twin claymores, Ah'm thinken.
*PART SCOTTISH*
Scottish people Ah think are Highlanders.
cutlass or claymore ;D
Claymore's go BOOM!

I also like scimitars
Definitely bows and arrows. Throwing knives, and a small sword for the taking. I'm pretty accurate.
Definitly an axe like the one Plugg used. ;D
My Favorite weapons are saber and three throwing dirks. Which is used by Major Tamoak.
My choice would be a ongbow for long range engagements, with a tomhawk of some sort when things get up close an personal. :P

Woohoo! I love having points. ;D
Bows and arrows are fabulous, fabulous weaponry. They're a lot harder to use than they look, too - for me, at least. XD Lonna most definitely had an epic bow, I'd forgotten about him..
well to some people it might be hard but i find it quite easy.
I might try it this year.
Bow and Arrow's
slings and swords ;D
Axes, maces, slings, daggers, shortswords like a falcate. . . I like most weaponry.
Knives, axes, various swords...
My favorite weapon from the series really is Martin's sword, but if we're supposed to pick something else...
I like Sawney Rath's dagger. That's kindof cheating, because it's a mini version of Martin's sword, almost (sapphire pommel stone, "sharp enough to cut a falling leaf" or whatever it is the book says), but there it is.
Lord Brocktree's broadsword is also a favorite of mine.
Because Brocktree.
And I'm a really big fan of bows and arrows and archers in general, but there isn't one specific bow in the series that I like over the rest.
Ah yes, I like Sawney Rath's blade. I made a real life replicate of that once.
Two other weapons I like were Boar The Fighter's sword, with its special prongs, and Mokkan the Marlfox's axe.
I like gonff dagger and sunflashes's mace!
and ferhago's daggers

A Frying pan!
But really I would say Buckler's sword, Tammos Dirk, The Gullwacker, Slings but only in melee fighting, I like bow and arrows cuz you can take out vermin from a distance. I also Like a saber but not as much as the others. I don't like daggers cuz they are to short but Dirks are awesome. Long enough to do some damage yet small and light enough that any one can use them (Strength wise). I like light weapons that involve skill instead of brute strength.

Rockjaw's bow
Tammo's dirk

Axes.

I am a weapon person.
Bow and arrows, hands down.
Probably swords, spears, and quarter staffs. Oh and shields too if they count. Those types of weapons are cool in my opinion

Actually, Urthstripe's boar spear was pretty cool.
Sword-breakers are also cool.
My favorite weapon is the bow and arrow especially lonna Bowstripe's bow and arrow. The shoulder dirk is also handy for close fights.
Welcome to the forum
@Tergen!
Short swords are pretty useful too. I guess it all boils down to what the scenario is.
I love bows; longbows, recurve bows, (not so much compound bows). I own a recurve, pretty low draw weight but it works for target practice. I don't practice nearly as much as I should though, so I'm not a very good shot ;)
Hmm, difficult question, really. I prefer unarmed combat but a pike would probably be my weapon of choice.

You need to practice until you never get it wrong.
The problem is finding the time for constant practice. That principle was applied for people who had five years in which to master that specific skill. It can be harder for one who has other things they need to do besides archery.
You took the words right out of my mouth, Teer. ;)
And put them up on a screen!
Is there anything she cannot do?!?!
Yes. She cannot reach the trampoline bar on her room without climbing on the window sill. Even if she jumps.
I can reach it if I jump on tippy toes, and stand on the couch. *grins*
In all seriousness, there's a lot I can't do.

Ah. Well, it's true, she can.

Suuuuurrrreee.
I actually appreciate spears as weapons. They are multi purpose, especially if they make metal heads.
I like Longsword and Broadsword the best but I also love Mace and Chain and Battle Axe and Javelin. Bow and Arrows and Longbows are pretty cool as well.
I like the Scottish back sword or at least I think thats what it is called. I also like any type of bow, but I think my favorite is a kukri, I do not know why I just like it.
(Edit: Sorry for saying these non Redwall items. I also forgot to mention I also like tomahawks.)
Recently I've been really appreciating double scimitars. I don't know why, but I just think they're pretty cool.
I forgot to mention I also like the kopesh.
I just realized, I never posted my favorite weapon on here...
Go on then. Tell us. ^-^
Well, it's tough to determine which would be my favorite without using it, because they all have separate strengths. For instance a pike is incredibly useful for keeping foes out of reach, unless they have a zweihander, which is more difficult and taxing to wield. A dagger and shield would allow me to advance inside the range of a pikeman or longswordsman, but leaves me vulnerable to other foes. And there's also--*Overthinks this some more.*.....
Battleaxe or halberd.
Hmmmmmmmm... Bow and Arrows...
A dirk, because a sword would be too long for me. (I might try a throwing dagger, but I'd have to practice for a while, because my aim isn't very good.)
Oh, I forgot to add knives!
Spoiler
...
Spoiler
Yup, just knives in general...
Spoiler
I mostly like smaller, sharper knives...
(Like Rasconza's ten daggers?)
(I suppose...)
Bow and arrow. Maybe because I'm a fan of Ranger's Apprentice.
