Yes, Suggestions and Concerns is open for new threads for members to post their feedback.

On the subject of a chat, we (moderation team) are working on the possibility of adding a chat to the board/site. We need to work out more details and conditions, but we might get one added somewhere.

You may not like my answer....I'm going to say no to a chat room -- unless (and this is a big UNLESS) there is some way to connect it to the login system of this board, and connected to the users of the forum.  Why?  Abuse!  Yeah, you don't want to think that anyone here would do that and impersonate another, but without a login to prevent said abuse, it can and probably will happen.  All it takes is a flood of emotions, a lousy day, and you've got a problem.  Unless this can be done, a chat room is not something I recommend.

Members should go and register their own Skype/Windows Live/Yahoo etc. accounts and post that info in their profile.  This prevents abuse, and you can still chat with a large group through these programs. :)

yes i see what u mean. as for impersonating. you can know whos who with and "IP address". mods usually have tht power to view it. as for linking a chat to the actual site, i am on a forum tht does have tht capability and uses your current nick and everything. sadly i have no clue how to do tht xD but as for this chat ill check into it and see the possibility's :)

But what about the people who don't have Skype/Windows Live/Yahoo accounts? (Like me.)
I think a chat channel would be awesome. ;D

^ All of those accounts cost the same as the chat.....free.  If you have an email address, you can sign up for those services.

I'm not allowed to yet, though. :(

Then pray, what exactly is the difference between a Windows Live service and a chat room?  I assume the "I'm not allowed to" refers to a restriction on chatting, not necessarily signing up for something.  (I remember those days when chat rooms were a tad taboo, so I didn't regularly use one of these services till high school, granted they weren't as refined as they are now)

I haven't been allowed to use a chat room yet. My parents might allow me if we had one on here, but I'm not sure.

What I mean is that I'm too young to sign up for anything like that. :( Maybe when I'm older...

The Legends of Redwall Abbey actually has a narrow chat box that you can use. All you do is scroll down to the very bottom of the page, no matter what page your on, and it will be there. You can talk to anyone, without it being a personal chat kind of thing.

This idea has been drifting around for quite a while now. I doubt it will ever come to pass.

Well, the mods said no, for some reason.

We can always just make our own chat. If someone knows a good site we can all go to. Just an idea.

Well, the mods said no, for some reason.

We said no because there are plenty of places to host a chat outside of this board if you choose to (the major chat networks-AIM, Windows, Yahoo), plus stuff through Facebook, and various other chat programs.  These are all better developed than something we could put on the forum.  Plus remember this forum is not a chat room, and we have no intention of making it one by adding chat boxes and things like that.

Anyway, there's no reason why we should have a special thing just for live chatting.

I found a site where we can chat! It isn't that great, but it does the job. Lets go test it out.

I'd say yes but I don't want to get in trouble with the mods.

Problem with that chat room - I can say my alias is Matthias720 (as could anyone else) and you'd be none the wiser if it was or wasn't. ;)  No security whatsoever.

As I said before, registered chat programs are the only way to go and to be assured with some sort of accuracy whom you are speaking to.

That makes sense. It's safer that way. I see your point now

Of course. Not just anyone is going to walk into my chat room and say what they want. But I do know what you mean by security. Perhaps I can find a better site...

I joined it. Now you mods are probably facepalming and thinking, 'Oh, poor gullible Tiria...'. ;D
Title: Re: my idea
Post by: Lutra on June 10, 2012, 01:23:12 PM
Not not gullible...I just don't see it as a smart thing.  The mods here are not going to be responsible for that place if something goes wrong.

Of course it would be non of the mods responsibility. I will take full responsibility if anything goes wrong. After all, I am the creator.

That's not the point--if its linked to the forum it becomes our responsibility.
Title: Re: my idea
Post by: Tiria Wildlough on June 12, 2012, 02:06:27 AM
No, no one's expecting you to take responsibility for it. That wouldn't be fair.

No one here on the forum would be likely to place blame one us, but it's likely that someone else (ie: a parent) may disapprove and lay the blame with us. We cannot and should not allow that to happen. That's why we're saying what we are; we want to avoid anything that could hurt the forum and its reputation.

My parents wouldn't do that. However, there are probably parents who would.
