Title: Book Errors (Typos and general mistakes)
Post by: Georgiana on August 15, 2012, 01:53:39 PM
I am currently rereading Mariel of Redwall and I found an error in the beginning of chapter 18. Being a resident of the United States, I am of course reading a U.S. edition published by Firebird fantasy. It is a paperback. The error is on page 164, the first page of chapter 18. Pakatugg is referred to as a hedgehog, but previously he was known to be a squirrel. I've also noticed that the spelling of Graypatch alternates between Greypatch and Graypatch throughout the book.

Has anyone else found errors or typos in their books? I remember seeing the typo "daaughters" somewhere in Mattimeo.

I'm French and I think I noticed a small error in the French edition of The Pearl of Lutra (renamed Loubia) in the first days of fighting, the battle cry is "Loubiiiiiiiia" and a little later "Loubiaaaaaaaa".

Even if I'm deep into the story, a spelling error or inconsistency will often jolt me out of it. That's what happened when Pakatugg was referred to as a hedgehog.

There's the infamous misuse of female pronouns for Killconey even though he is a male character, in Redwall.  Brian made mention of it in an interview and said it ought to be fixed but it hasn't been as of the latest editions I've seen.

In Mattimeo, baby Rollo switches from being a vole, to a mouse, and then back again.

In a page of Eulalia, Abbot Daucus is Abbot Daucas.

In the Rogue Crew, Abbot Thibb changes from a squirrel to a mouse.

To err is human. ;)  Changing species is something I never paid much attention to and never noticed.  The only mistake I've ever noticed is the transgender Killconey...and like others, I always believed he/she was female due to the error.

In Loamhedge, the weasel brothers Rogg and Floggo were once referred to as ferrets.

Perhaps the female pronouns for Killconey have been changed in the latest edition, because when I read it recently I didn't notice anything.

So Killconey's a guy? It really drives you insane when you get the Audio tape....The voice is one of those that you can't really tell

He was Irish! I could tell it was a guy. I always think of Killconey having an Irish accent. It just suits him.

Revive.

There's a typo in my copy of Pearls where it says Abbot instead of Friar.

The Greypatch/Graypatch thing drove me bonkers. To this day I'm still wondering which one is the correct spelling. . .

Some of its not noticeable but in the Pearls of Lutra two mole babes are female, but in the Long Patrol in which they are adults their gender changes and they are male.

Considering Jacques was English, it's likely that Greypatch is the correct spelling.

I've actually found a few in the books but I simply cannot remember them - wish I'd noticed this thread at the time! I'll try and remember them...

I know there was an instance where a character is referred to as another animal and somewhere else a spelling of a name changes I think on the very same page. Pretty vague. :p

Oh yeah, not a mistake as such, but it doesn't fit the continuity: In the US version of some of the books I notice that all the UK spellings have been kept in, yet randomly manoeuvre is spelt the American way 'maneuver'. Why bother to only change that word? :p

In Loamhedge, Saro's full name is spelled Sarobando and Sarabando multiple times each, so when I was younger I didn't know which was correct since both fit her nickname.  Redwall Wiki says it's Sarobando, so my mind can rest at last.

There were a couple misspellings of common words that I found in a couple books, but I don't remember which ones and they were very few.
