Title: Overlord's Orders VII
Post by: Matthias720 on January 14, 2013, 05:24:04 PM
Welcome to the seventh round of Overlord's Orders!

I will be keeping the theme of this round secret until the round starts. I think you all will enjoy it

Meanwhile, a quick refresher on the rules:
Quote from: Overlord's Orders RulesThe Rules
We will have an overlord, who will be all powerful and control the game.
Everyone else will be a servant of theirs to do his or her bidding, which will be a new assignment at the beginning of each round.
The game begins by the Overlord summoning everyone before them and questioning them about whether they got the thing they wanted.

Let's say the Overlord might have wanted a jeep to use.

Example Round:
Stage 1: Who failed?
The Overlord would question one person of everyone in the game (this would be random selection) and ask them why they failed to bring them the thing they wanted (which will invariable happen, no one ever succeeds).
Stage 2: Defenses
That person can then blame their failure on some random thing (like maybe an elephant destroying the jeep) or someone else in the game; anything to shrug themselves off from the immediate blame placed on them.
Pretty much everything goes at this point, following a rough outline of what happened based on the First Accused, who as stated before will be decided by the Overlord at the beginning of the round.
Everyone can blame someone, themselves, keep silent, or introduce some sort of new feature that happened while acquiring the item (in this case, a jeep). Eventually, the Overlord will process the information and decide who failed, or might just get tired of the arguing and randomly select someone at random.
Stage 3: Fault is fixed
The person chosen to have failed by the Overlord is then thrown out, vaporized, or something creative, by the Overlord's orders. The idea is to not be this person, and to survive as long as possible.

Likely, the Overlord will be choosing the best defenses as survivors.

Inter-game rules: The winner of any round is given hostship of the next game. This can tie in with them going from servant to overlord, or it can be original.

General Guidelines:
Free roleplaying, or game spam, is fine. This means having yourself eat a banana, talk about the weather or river dance.

Whenever someone says something, it becomes fact. It is what happened. If someone says an elephant destroyed a jeep, then anyone calling that person a liar is for certain lying; the jeep was destroyed by an elephant. What's up for telling for someone else is, for example, who set the elephant on the jeep.

Godmoding pertaining to persons should be restricted to some extent, just try to keep things with at least a hand in plausibility. Powerplaying is allowed. However, it cannot affect players between tasks. For instance, you cannot have a servants contract a disease and be unable to speak, or even die. You can have them be sick during the task, but you cannot impede them during the Sessions before the Overlord.

Normally, the Gamemaster will have technology restricting servants to a base during the game to prevent physically roleplaying and keep the game focused on its purpose. Overlords can powerplay.
Also, you cannot use an excuse like being brainwashed or cloned during the task. You are you-and you are responsible for what you did wrong. Everyone is a failure in this game.
Remember to keep things civil, stay inside the board rules, keep all hands and legs inside the game until it comes to a complete stop.

If this is your first time playing this game, it would be very helpful if you reread at least one of the previous rounds, to get a better feel of how things work. Here are links to the previous rounds:

The entry deadline has been reached, and sign-up has been locked. Ready? Here we go....

Banners flapped in the breeze, moving back and forth. Birds flew overhead, trilling their songs of happiness. A stream gurgled nearby, as water rushed over rocks and pebbles. All of this beauty was lost on the Overlord. With keen eyes, he spotted what he had been waiting for. Over a small hillock came a group of assorted vermin, comprised of ferrets, rats, stoats, and even a fox. When they reached him, they all quickly bowed to him, waiting for his word to rise. “Come,” he said, “and enter my tent.” Following the Overlord, the group entered the large tent, seating themselves at a large table. The Overlord sat at the head of table, signaling to a nearby weasel. Servers quickly rushed in with plates of vittles for the motley crew of vermin, as well as two small rats rolling in a large barrel of ale.

Slowly sipping wine from a silver goblet, the Overlord waited until the group had finished their meal before addressing them. “Now that you have had vittles and drink, harken unto me. I have a proposition for you that I believe you will be interested in. I am the mighty Overlord from the North. I have no name, as none is needed. You have no doubt heard of me and my horde, as we have crushed every force that has ever opposed us. You are all each a leader of your own small band, but they all pale in comparison to my powerful army. I therefore am extending an invitation to you to join me and become officers and captains in my horde. If you do, I will fill your sacks with treasure and your mouths with fine vittles. What do you say? Will you join me?”

The vermin were all pleased at the thought of good vittles and loot. It mattered little that the Overlord had no name, or that he wasn’t even any specific type of recognizable vermin. Looks had nothing to do with power and prestige. Greed won over the crew, and they all quickly agreed to join the Overlord’s army.

Smiling disarmingly, the Overlord was pleased that he had won them over so easily. Looking at them each in turn, he gave them their first assignment. “Go to the seamstress and get your uniforms. Once you have them, I want you each to take a squad of ten soldiers and go out foraging for food along the stream. I believe this will be a good test of your abilities. Now go.”

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -
THREE HOURS LATER
-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

“Unacceptable! How can you fail so miserably at simple foraging? I send you to do one simple thing, and you give me results that a blind frog would laugh at! You were supposed to bring back good vittles, like fish, berries, or bird eggs. Even roots and herbs are better than what you lot brought back! My army cannot eat rocks and firewood. And what is this? Is that…Yes it is. What is with that snake skin? Explain yourselves! You, with the dumb look on your face, explain to me what happened, before I lose my temper!”

OOC: That's right. The mystery theme I chose for this round is Redwall Villain Overlord. If this proves as entertaining as I think it will be, we're in for a rather fun round. :)

Taggerung, exalting in the best uniform he had ever wore, spoke first. "Well, mighty Overlord o' the North, leader over these vagabonds, I can tell you! I would've pleased you greatly, had you seen my squad's foragin' an hour ago, afore these lot of scurry excuses for good foragers ruined it all! First, there was Daniel's crew, slammin' 'round the wood like a bunch o' wasps, hammerin' at trunks like termites, they were! Me an' my true foragers did a better job than they ever could. We had berries an' 'erbs an' roots o' all sorts, when my crew unfortunately was set upon by the excuses for soldiers led by Daniel. He was screamin' up mad like, wavin' 'is cutlass like a toy, an' pointed it right at my throat, yellin' to come and steal all o' our food. I think he was jealous and didn't want t'come back t'you with no vittles o' his own. I really don't know what was wrong with 'im. Warra you supposed t'do 'bout it? Well, anyway, he got t'yellin' louder than a bankvole inna mudball and up comes this big snake. It must've been an adder, majesty. It was so big, that I can't believe the rest of the crews didn't 'ear it. They must've been too scared, the cowards! I love a good fight, so I start pushin' my squad for'ard t'engage, and it clears off. Daniel, scared out of 'is wits, calms down enough to get an idea into 'is head. An' a bad one at that! So he takes off with 'is crew, after they eat all o' our vittles, and purloin a snake skin downhill. Block'eads!"

Mattio feeling rather pleased with what he had got was terrified at what the Overlord had to say. "Well sir I had a whole great feast we were carrying it back when lightning struck one of my soldiers i told them to run back. None of them didI found them under a tree stuffing their faces with everything we found. I whipped all of them into shape and made them search."
Title: Re: Overlord's Orders VII

Romsca finished what Mattio was saying. "...so we searched for a long time, and I found some food. But PluggFiretail here started eating it all. We carried it back anyway, but PluggFiretail had finished by the time we got here. What do you have to say about that, Plugg?"

OOC: Unfortunately I won't be here Friday or Saturday. Is that okay?

Daniel the ferret leader spat on the floor. "Gah, trust Tagg to get the story all wrong! Let me tell ya, oh great Overlord, me and mah crew are tha stealthiest lot around. The reason we were 'stampin' around like a bunch o' wasps' was for that reason exactly. Wasps. They were set loose on us by none other than Leatho and 'is lot. He was obviously jealous o' the great vittles we 'ad found, and wanted to be the best in your eyes. Let me tell ya, we would 'ave been the best if it were not for Leatho. He set them wasps loose on us he did, an' they stings us badly, and we run about and run in to Tagg and 'is lot by mistakes we did. I was trying to swat the wasps away with me cutlass, so that was why I was wavin' it around, and I wasn't yelling about trying to steal Tagg's food, I was yellin' about Leatho tryin' to steal ours! I tripped over an' that's why I pointed me cutlass, because I fell on 'im.

And about this snake. We weren't a-feared o' no snake, the yells were because o' the wasp stings. They were still a-hurtin' like made they were! So we sees this snake, and an idea came to mind. Snake actually tastes quite nice, you know. So I decides to chase it after Tagg an' 'is lot did there thing. So we chases it, but sadly it was gone. One o' my crew picked up some of the skin it had shed. I didn't think it was needed, but Psybox's crew did, who we came across soon after, and we gave it to them to take. So that's why it is there, M'Lord. Also, we didn't eat all 'is vittles, they were eaten by some o' Redwaller's crew, who we met at the same place Tagg was at. Some of our crews mingled, so that's probably why Tagg got confused.

And ask PluggFiretail about the rocks 'n firewood, they were the once who took 'em 'ere."

"Well Leatho's crew jumped on our food sup'lies too. That was after I tackled Plugg. She had already eaten it all by the time I saw her.She started running oh'ho she did. But I catched 'er.And she promised never to eat anything we've scavenged again, M'lord. Then I saw that snake Daniel was talking about. We set up an ambush in the trees. Here comes the snake then comes Daniel's Blundering lot. They scared the snake away and everything else." Mattio stared crossly at Daniel.

OOC: While I haven't noticed any specific instances or problems this round, here are a couple of things to remember about how the game works:
1. When someone says something, it happened. Your job is to explain why, despite of how things look, you were not to blame.
2. Take responsibility for you actions, and use what other people have said to your advantage.
3. Don't be afraid to be creative. Thinking outside the box may save you from being eliminated.
4. When you're not sure what to post, think about your dilemma, and try restating your actions that other people have said that you have done. You may be surprised at the ideas that you come up with.

Example:
Person 1: I saw what happened. Person 2 blew up the treasure you wanted, with 50 pounds of TNT.
Person 2: Yes, I blew up the treasure, but only because the treasure was rigged to trigger traps set up by Person 3. They wanted to keep the treasure safe, but none of us could get near it. Destroying the treasure was an accident, because Person 4 was the one who placed the TNT for me.
Person 3: I wasn't my fault. Person 1 told me to keep the treasure safe while they went to get shipping containers to carry it in. I may have gotten a bit carried away, but Person 1 was the real brains behind it. Ask them why they thought traps were a good idea.
Etc...

Also, I was bored yesterday, and I doodled a rough map of the area this game is taking place in. It might give you clues as to what lies ahead in future rounds.

Run I did from Mattio, because he was beating me up, trying to cover HIS gluttony. I brought the rocks and firewood here by accident because I thought that it was the last of the food and was planing on giving it to you but... *looks at firewood and rocks* it's not edible. It was wraped up, as you can see. So I couldn't tell.

My lord, great ruler of all the lands, mightiest of warriors, My few vermin and I found a big, big, big, big, big, huge, big tree. The tree had wasps flying all around it, buzzing here and there and there and here. I being a smart young me, knew that there is lots of honey, sweat yumy honey, that your lordship would love. So me and my crew climbed the big, big, big, big, big, huge, big tree to get to the wasp's nest were the honey is. But when I suck my sword in the rotten tree millions, billions, Zillions of wasps flew arond us, my poor mate was lifted up in the air never to be seen again. We ran for are very lives, we did. We ran and ran and ran and ran. I bumped in to a huge snake, must of been the size of 50 wolverines. So I draw my sword and cut a door in it's side and walked in. There was lots and lots of food, good food in the belly of the snake. So I was about to take the food when the great snake spit me out, far above the trees I went. Then as I was flying the wasps came after me. till I fell in a great lake many miles away. Pike were every where, with huge teeth the size of mountains, biting here and there and there and here. Water when every where huge waves coming down on me pike EATING ME! But I knew I had a assignment, I must do my assignment. So I fought the pike, water, waves, tropical cyclones and SunShine! After I made it to land I was attacked by toads the size of full grown trees! They took me captive and tortured me.  But I got away and at once looked for food again, but then an army of badgers took me and beat me. they left me half dead at your tent with a rock tied to my head.

You see Mighty Overlord, I did say I was going to kill you but that was a secret code. There were Short Pudgy Green Aliens that came down from the Planet Mars and I overheard what their leader was talking about. He said that he wasn't happy the way things were going on Mars so he would try to kill you and take over you. Martin wasn't here she had ran off to get some food for you but I pretended to be with them to kill you and if they overheard that I wasn't then they would murder me. I told Mattio and Romsca that. Martin finally came back with some red paint and we started painting the tree. The aliens were very superstitious and I was planning that when they saw that paint, they would call off their attack. That's Why I said I was going to kill you For if they did hear me say that I wasn't on their side we would all be executed.

OOC: Sorry guys, but I had a crazy weekend. >_< I'm here now.

"ENOUGH," the Overlord bellowed, "I have heard more than I wanted to!. You are all incapable flunkies. I have no idea how you managed to lead your own bands before you came here. You doubt you lot could even think unless you had a mate to share their brains with you."

Pacing back and forth, the Overlord glared from one to the next until his eyes finally rested on Redwaller. With keen precision, the Overlord drew his sword, swinging it in a dazzling series of arcs. SNIP. SNIP. SNIP. One by one, pieces of Redwaller's one fine uniform fell to the ground. Glaring bitterly at the unfortunate vermin, he spoke.

"You ordered your comrades to eat the food? You. ORDERED. Your comrades. To EAT. The FOOD?! I don't care what kind of 'spell' you were under, or who told you to do it. If anyone is to be a member of my crew, they must be blindly obedient to me and none other. There is no place in my inner circle for those who obey orders that are not my own. You are hereby demoted. Report to the lowest of my foot soldiers, the old and blind rat Gurt, for you are now his personal servant. And if you follow his orders like a proper servant is supposed to, you may one day be elevated to the rank of 'not-worthy-to-be-in-my-army-so-get-out'. Now go! If you are here when I turn back, I will certainly be less generous then I have been. Consider yourself lucky."

Turning his back, the Overlord counted backwards from ten. Upon reaching one, he turned back to face the remaining members of his inner circle. "You are to return to your tents now, for in the morning you are to go on a new assignment. Two days march to the south, in a large ring of low mountains, I have placed a war banner with my emblem on it. Your task is to retrieve this banner and return it unto me. This is a training exercise that should make you work together as a team. I need minions who can work together, not careless fools who are only seeking glory. I will await your return. Now go."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  TWO WEEKS LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"In what way do the words 'two days march south' elude you lot? Two days down, maybe a day there, and two days back is all it should have taken. But not you luckless excuse for half-wits. What is your excuse this time? Was it an adder? Or maybe a giant earthshake? Or maybe you were attacked by baby mice with rattles? What happened to make you over seven days late?"

Spitting out the words contemptuously, the Overlord's gaze upon a sack on the ground. Ripping it open, several scraps of cloth fell to the floor. "Oh, and what have we here? The banner torn into nine pieces. Let's add this to your list of things you messed up. GO ON! SPEAK UP! Somebeast explain this to me, now!"

OOC: Interesting first round, guys, but remember that this is a Redwall themed round. Guns and aliens don't really belong in Mossflower Woods. Try to keep that in mind for the next round. Thanks.

At first, we wanted t'make a broth with fresh vegetables, but Daniel an' Leatho chopped 'em into rubbish an' burned 'em up. We 'ad t'settle for food already prepared an' inna cupboard. Lemme tell ya the food was fishy from the start, and I only ate a bit o' bread. We only stayed there a night, an' moved on southwards, or woulda, had not the same vegetable-ruiners been the guides too. They both got us lost, until nine days later, after many unpleasant times, we got to the flag, only to have Daniel an' Leatho fight o'er it as a blanket, an' rip it all up. He waited until they were nearly charcoal, M'Lord. Then 'e ate 'em by 'imself cause nobody else wanted them.
"Aye, I did poison the food, but for a good reason. The ants were invadin' the place, so I poisoned a bit o' the food an' placed it as bait for them to eat. Unfortunately the owner of the place thought it was the food we were gonna eat, despite me many objections. I didn't eat a bit and tried to get the others not to eitha, but none o' them listened.
"I got no-one lost, that was ole Leatho again. You know what 'e did, sah? Each time I said 'Go this way', 'e went an' made everyone go the otha way! 'E did that the 'ole trip, I woulda got us there in no time if it weren't for 'im.
"Lastly, I was trying to get tha' flag offa Leatho, 'oo wanted it assa blankit, but 'e wouldn't let go. Then as I was tuggin', Psybox just comes along and trips me up, an' I fall back. My lord, when I saw that we were poisoned, I knew that the best way to get them better was to make burnt vegittables. But no one wanted them for so odd reason, So I ate them....I felt better one second later.

When were  marching to the mountain I saw 500,000,000 long Patrol hares headed the way Daniel wanted to go, but I saved all are lives by taking us around them.

When we finaly got to the flag Daniel said it was called The Blankit, So I was about to take it when he grabbed it also. Than rocks, bolders, and trees fell from the mountain, :'( We lost 50 of are good beasts that day.  By then flag was in bad shape......Than the Hares showed up.....

Title: Re: Overlord's Orders VII
Post by: Matthias720 on February 21, 2013, 12:25:12 AM
The Overlord looked with contempt at each of his lackeys. Snarling with disgust, he picked up a flagon of wine and threw at an unfortunate Daniel. Hauling the vermin by his ears, the Overlord started to rant. "I don't care that your food was crawling with ants! As a member of my inner circle, you should be able to work around such trivial difficulties! The mark of a true leader in my horde is one who gives his mates a helping claw, rather than looking to just his own interests. It is obvious that you do not understand this, and I doubt you ever will. Guards, enter!"

Two large weasels entered the tent, dragging manacles and chains behind them. With a nod from the Overlord, the poor vermin, was quickly taken hold of and locked in said chains. Baring his teeth in a wicked smile, the Overlord knelt in front of Daniel, and continued to speak. "Now let no one say I am an unfair Overlord. You will not die, nor will you be cast aside to face the dark and dangerous world alone. Oh no, you will still receive vittles and drink, but only as long as you serve me faithfully. Your new job is to hold up my new and intact war banner, that you will make for me. This banner is to be placed on a pole that is as tall as three rats, so that all my horde can see what a failure you are. This banner must be kept aloft from daybreak to nightfall, everyday, for the next two seasons. If you do that without failing, I may see fit to have you reinstated as a lesser officer in my horde. Now take him out of my sight!"

As Daniel was dragged away, the Overlord turned to his remaining lieutenants. "Well, well, only seven of you are left. It's good that there are still a large number of you remaining, otherwise I doubt you would be able to complete your next mission. Three and a half days to the southwest there is a gorge filled with many caves. This gorge is home to both carrion birds and a band of savage foxes. They live without quarrel, but do not mistake that for peace. Long ago, the two tribes made an agreement to live without fighting amongst themselves. with the guarantee that they would protect each other from attack by other forces. Your mission is to go and quietly disrupt this treaty, and get the foxes to join me and my horde. The only two conditions I am giving you are these. One, do not let either side know what your true motives are, and two, don't promise the foxes anything that is worth more than what you all collectively possess. That means no golden chalices, no personal servants, and no weapons made with gems. Got it? Good. I await your return.

Twenty Two Days Later
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Overlord paced back and forth in his tent. Stopping a moment, he examined a clay pitcher that sat on a small table. Picking it up, he judged its weight with a single claw through the handle. Satisfied, he turned towards the remaining seven members of his inner circle, and, without aim or target, he threw the pitcher at the lot of them. Fortunately for them, he missed, and the piece of pottery flew out the open tent flap, striking a hordebeast on the back of the head. With a look that could melt an iceberg, the Overlord glared at the vermin before him. He opened his mouth to speak, but hesitated and closed it again. Looking towards a wizened rat, he nodded, and turned his back on the group. In a shrill voice, the rat spoke.

"You misbegotten half-witted excuses for last weeks table scraps! Our master is most displeased with you. So great is his anger, that he will not even speak to you. Instead, I have been chosen to voice his displeasure. The great and powerful Overlord is unhappy with your failure. He was expecting all three and a half score of the foxes to join his horde, but is instead greeted by the sight of only three foxes, of which two are barely of the age to properly wield a weapon! And if that were not enough, we have received reports that the alliance of the gorge dwellers was crushed by war between both sides. The entirety of the gorge is littered with the bodies of potential soldiers. You lot have much explaining to do! And do so quickly, before your heads are loosed from your shoulders!"

My lord. *bows* I thought it would be wise to go into council with the elders of the clan of foxes and I, being a fox myself, went easily disguised into their midst withoutthe birds knowing about it. They thought it would be a good idea, but then Mattio, ALSO disguised as a fox, tried to ride one of the birds. So... they started attacking the unprepared foxes and I only had time to escape with one of the elders' daughters and grandchildren.

"Overlord, I 'ad a wunnerful scheme for subduin' the entire 'orde. I planned on convincin' the chief fox that 'e 'ad no use for the birds an' he ought to move on in the night without 'em knowin'. I 'ad succeeded in convinvin' 'im, that given the circumstances, he ought t'abandon the birds to their deaths in the future without mutual protection an' seek out better future under yer banner, an' I promised 'im a few better weapons we 'ad. The scheme went wrong when every other servant in this tent collectively told the carrion birds the foxes were goin' t'kill 'em all the next mornin' early like an' loot all their prized treasures an' plunder from seasons o' scavenging and catching beasts with valuable assets off guards. I acted as best as I could t'remedy the situation as best as possible, but the birds attacked as the foxes were leavin' the gorge. They both nearly wiped each other out."

"I was banging on the tent sides because I needed to get your attention! Leatho Shellhound was going crazy and trying to get the foxes to kill each other for no reason! He was stabbing some of them and blaming the killings on other foxes! Then the birds saw this, and they were too hungry to control themselves. They ate all of the foxes, except for the three we brought back. I tried to stop Leatho, but I needed you to help me. THAT'S why I was banging on the sides of the tent."

My Lord it wasn't a fox I stabed, but a hare with a fox costume. The Fox/hare was making unrest in the camp and was trying to make a war. So I stepped on his tail, the tail came off!!! Thats how I knew he was a traitor. The Fox/hare made a run for it so I yelled at the fox guards to stop him. When I finaly got to the hare i stabed it with my dagger.

"Let me explain about Mattio. We were together and wanted to get the chief to join us. As soon as the chief said no, we had to do away with him. This was before Leatho charged at me. All the foxes except three were loyal to the chief and we thought they were going to kill us so Mattio dressed up as the fox and ran around pretending to be the chief. The whole tribe followed him until one stepped on Mattio's fake tail, then they saw he was not a fox. With half fox half vermin body, he ran around. All the foxes were angry except the three. They came with us as we hid from the others with Psybox" Tam said

OOC: Well, for the holiday special, I had all the assignments (though of course I changed a few as the round progressed) thought out before hand, since I wanted to be sure I had enough themed ideas. So I mostly had to come up with how who failed, how to narrate that, and then how to narrate an assignment, and not come up with a new idea. The holiday special posts are about the longest any round has even seen, with all the added storytelling that was more than usual. I also tend to read through the whole thing two times or so after completion, and not just to proofread but make sure it does an adequate job of clarifying what's going on.The first ever round had much shorter and took only about 20 minutes on average to compile an end-begin round post. The holiday special was longer to write posts, and took about 30 minutes or so to compile and satisfy me. I guess I just do things fast?

"ENOUGH!" bellowed the Overlord. "You half-wits are trying my patience to no end. I have little tolerance for the pathetic excuses you feed me, but I will ignore them for the time being as I have a punishment for one of you. The punishment will be a one-way trip to the lowest decks of a sea rat galleon. There, the unlucky individual who will receive my wrath, will be treated to endless hours of rowing, whipping, and poor food. All of this comes courtesy of Cap'n Blackheart, deadly scourge of the Western Shores. And the unlucky recipient of this is...PluggFiretail. If you can't ensure that any orders you give are clearly understood, you are in no way fit to be in my inner circle. You are now sentenced to the life as a oar slave. May the cruel seas be a harsh lesson to you as to how I treat failure. Now go!"

As he spoke, two despicable specimens of sea vermin entered the tent. Seizing Plugg by his tail, they dragged him, kicking and screaming, out of the tent. The six remaining lackeys turned away from the horrible shrieking and looked to the Overlord for their new orders.

The Overlord walked over to a nearby chest, briefly withdrawing a small, leather bag, removing something from it, and before returning it to the chest. Turning back to face his minions, the Overlord displayed a small gold figurine in the shape of a raven. "Your next mission is to make peace with the Raven Council. They have heard of the atrocities committed against their brethren during your last mission, and they seek retribution. You must travel to their mountain cave, three days journey to the southeast. All you need to do is climb the mountain, offer the Council this figurine as a symbol of peace, and return back to me. Remember, don't offend them and watch your step as you climb. Dismissed."

- - - - - - - - - - - -
TEN DAYS LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - -

Six stretchers bore the hapless flunkies into the tent of the Overlord. With disgust, he looked at the bruised and broken bodies of his inner circle. "Why do I even bother sending you on these missions? You mess up whatever tasks I give you, and what do I get? Nothing. Well, except this time. You will be pleased to know that your mission wasn't a total loss. An envoy from the Raven Council left this morning after delivering a truce agreement. They have agreed to not attack me and my horde, as not only would there be the needless death of able-bodied warriors on both sides, but also because the couldn't stop laughing at your pitiful performance as messengers. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FOOLISH YOU MADE ME LOOK?!?" With a sigh, the Overlord held up a small carved bead. "This token is death sentence to whomever I give it to. The Council's price for peace is the death of one of you six. I will choose the one who failed most in their mission as the price for the truce. Now explain exactly what happened, why all of you came back on stretchers, and how in the Gates you managed to make ME look like a FOOL?!? Now I want answers, starting with whomever was carrying the gold token when it was delivered."

OOC: I wanted to try something different this time around, by connecting this mission to the last one. I also want to take a moment and say that I think everything that has happened this round has gone surprisingly well. We had a bit of a rough start, but you all have done a decent job at staying pretty close to the Redwall universe. I would appreciate hearing how each of you feels this round is going. I haven't received much feedback, and I want to know that you like how the story is unfolding. And don't forget that the map on Page 3 will show a rough idea of where you have already been, and where you might be headed next. Good luck, everybody, in the next elimination round. ^_^

One of the poor wreches lifted his head up from the stretcher, with a voice of one who was dieing and said "My lord I had the great honor of carrying the gold token, I went boldly out the lead and started to climb the said mountain, Romsca was good and helpfull, but Mattio kept running up the snowy mountain and sleding down it, which he did about 20 times. One the twenty frist he landed head long in to Romsca and made a loud scream as he did so. This made a huge avalanche.

Taggerung was in a better shape than most of the inner circle. "Overlord, Leatho had the golden raven for the journey t'the raven council. It was stolen at night by Psybox, undoubtedably due to 'is never endin' desire an' greed for power an' status. I tried t'take it back from 'im before we were t'see the ravens, but 'e resisted and started kickin' birds and fellow travelers. We were jostled into the council with the figure in 'is paws. Once the raven councilors called, very elegantly an' stately like, for our offer, Psybox and Romsca began squakin' like fieldmice housewives together an' eventually get the 'ole lot o' birds screechin' up a fit like a maelstrom whirlin' away. Two great ravens swept down an' smothered 'em, not gently, while a raven councilor asks me o' all o' us why a horde leader like yourself 'ave such fools unner your command. I stepped for'ard an' took the figure from Psybox an' presented it to the raven councillors then, and a raven took it from me as I spoke, sayin' it was your wish to make peace for their own good. They seemed to be persuaded, until Psybox leapt up an' snatched the figure from a raven's claw an' ate it! He didn't toss it away, or anythin' else, just ate it, like it was a mushroom. A few ravens flew off wid 'im to get the piece out, I suppose. It woulda been fine if the other four captains 'ere didn't get all scared an' tried to run away like moles from bees.  The ravens attacked then, thinkin' treachery an' deceit, and gave us all sumthin' t'think about for awhile. You might try askin' Psybox where the piece is now, if ya care about it anymore, mighty Overlord!"

I was howling in pain because Mattio ran in to me with his sled earlier that afternoon and that broke several of my bones. And of course, as you all know, I was buried in snow for a while, which didn't help. I was in incredible pain when Mattio tackled me and tried to beat me up, so he could take the golden raven, which he thought I had! That, along with Psybox's eating the real golden raven, was what bothered the ravens, milord."

"That is quite enough," said the Overlord, "it is clear to me who the guilty party is. Leatho Shellhound, you took responsibility of the figurine, and fell victim to the antics of your comrades. You have done well, all things considered. Go and receive treatment for your wounds. Taggerung_of_Redwall, you have done equally well. You still failed, but I am convinced of your innocence. You too may go and receive treatment for your injuries. Tam and Martin, you have incurred no blame as well, be off now, before I rethink my generosity."

Turning to face the remaining three stretchers, the Overlord snarled at the three incapacitated captains. "You lot, it would seem, are the cause of my woes. I have no patience for bunglers in my army. And though one of you must go, I wish it were all three of you misbegotten misanthropic meddlers. Before I hand out judgement, give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you all where you stand! Speak!"

Deliberating for a moment, the Overlord stopped to observe an ornate shield hanging from a tent pole. He mused aloud, "A leader must be able to depend on his subordinates to defend against the troubles that comes to those with power, much like this shield. One of you three is ultimately to blame for embarrassing me most in front of the Raven Council, and that one shall be put to death. Much like a bad shield. Therefore, I give this token of death to, Mattio. You have not defended yourself, and have, indeed, remained silent. You shall be handed over to the Council, and be executed as they see fit. Now begone!"

As Mattio's stretcher was carried from the tent, the Overlord turned to the remaining captains. "Go and visit the healer, though neither of you deserve it. You and your fellow captains are to return once your injuries have healed, to receive your next mission."

  LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"Now that you five have had time to heal from your last disaster, I have a new mission for you. Four days journey to the south is a fortress unlike any you have ever seen. It is a rock formation of spike, spires, and spears of the hardest of stone. A truly impenetrable fortress that serves as my treasure house. Inside, is the majority of my wealth, and it is unlike that which you have ever seen. You task is to retrieve a set of gold-plated armor for me and a gold spear to match. That is all you are to take. I have sent word of your mission ahead via messenger, so that the mercenaries I have employed to protect it will not kill you on sight. Bring me just the armor and spear. If you even touch any of my other treasure, there will be severe consequences. Understood? Good. Now go!"

NINE DAYS LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
With an angry look that could melt steel, the Overlord ground his teeth as he spoke. "I made it quite clear that you were to ONLY bring the armor and spear to me. Why do I see before me five gold chalices, three bolts of the finest silk, an array of jewel encrusted daggers, a purple velvet cloak, but no armor or spear? Why in the Gates did you even bother returning to me without what I asked for? Answer me! NOW!"

Soon enuff, I see Romsca barrelin' towards me an' almost impalin' me through wid the thing! And psybox tried t'pelt me wid chalices! So I had to grab some silk, three bolts t'be exact, in order to divert her attention. Romsca, and psybox, were goin' mad from seein' so much wealth. Psybox calmed down, an' I decided we'd just wrap Romsca up in silk, for transport back 'ere, wid the added bonus o' pleasing you, unner the circumstances, if you follow my meaning, since we 'ad no further choice t'not try to. "So am I right in assuming that none of you listened to a single word I said? I told all five of you not to touch ANYTHING except the armor and spear! Who got the ball rolling? Who's to blame for this debacle?" Baring his teeth in a savage grin, the Overlord stared at the uneasy expressions on the faces of his captains. Pointing a claw forward, he looked directly at Taggerung_of_Redwall. "It was you, wasn't it? Playing catch with my chalices, and use priceless silks to tie up your comrade. What kind of idiot do you take me for?! SWell that was the wrong thing to do with my wealth. Now, about your punishment..."

With an even more sinister grin, the Overlord revealed a small, silver needle. "Behold your punishment. The silk you used to tie up Romsca was damaged; the whole bolt is now worthless. Your job is to fix it up right, and make it good as new. You may even need to unravel the whole bolt and reweave it. But that is the price you pay for damaging my treasure. Go now, and begin your long chore."

The unfortunate vermin was dragged from the tent, leaving behind four very frightened captains. The Overlord ignored the looks of fear and embarrassment on their faces and continued speaking. "You are to depart immediately for your next mission. Your target is the graveyard where we bury the most faithful of my crew. One of them was buried with a silver dagger that I would very much like to have back. Travel to the pine forest, one days journey to the northeast. The grave you want is marked with a dark stone that has a moon carving on it. Bring me the dagger, and you will redeem yourselves.

"You brought me a dagger, alright, but not a silver one. This dagger is made of iron, and is most commonly carried by the rats who prepare our food. Explain to me why I am looking at this dagger and not the silver one I want. And while you're at it, explain to me why it took you clods a week to bring me a dagger that should have taken you three days to fetch. Go on, speak up!"

As Romsca, Tam, and my self were digging out the grave Psybox was making some black magic thingy. It made all the dead crew come alive!!! They when after us. I saw from the corner of my eye  Psybox steal the dagger.  We (Romsca, Tam, and my self) were beaten into a cave and Romsca was stabbed by an  iron dagger!! We had to help her, this is what took time.

Yes Mi'lord and We had to help her so We found some medicine and herbs and staunched the bloodflow. Psybox was trying to get the dead to attack us so as I went and started helping Romsca, Leatho tried to hold them off.

"You see, Romsca gave me a book of black magic, it was an interesting read, and i found a spell that raises the dead, the raised dead then proceeded to dig themselves out of their graves, then die again, falling back into the grave, but meeting any living beast messes up the process and causes the zombies to react violently.  I told everyone about it, and they acted like they believed me, but behind my back they decided to completely disregard my advice.  I, being the person who raised them, was invisible to them, so i managed to get the knife, but one of the zombies and i both tripped, i dropped the dagger back into the grave, and the zombie feel on top of it, then a boulder was thrown at the grave by Leatho.  After i managed to move the rock, i discovered the rock managed to destroy the dagger.  I also told Tam and Martin to make a trap for the zombies, however, for some reason, he didn't feel like it, so he told me he would, but he never did...  Anyway, the sending of the zombies to attack the rest of the group was to lead them into the trap."

Well logically I through the boulder on top of the zombie! And you were a bird brain to trip and throw the dagger in the grave. I told Romsca to give Psybox the book the read how to destroy it, not use it.

And I didn't know how to make a trap for zombies because Zombies are dead and how to make a trap for zombies is special and it was in the book that Psybox had. I asked him for it and he said I couldn't have it.

Well Zombie traps are very special and, as I said before I would need the book. So I got as close as I could to Psybox and read over his shoulder the words. I said them and A special net wrapped over all of the zombies. Leatho, Me, And Romsca (who was feeling better) put them all in the cave and sealed it up. Then we (Romsca, Leatho and I) started back here and Psybox met us on the way.

With a rage-fueled growl, the Overlord cut the argument short. "That will be quite enough of that. Your incompetence continuously reaches new depths, but one of you has gone further still. Psybox, you seem to be the instigator of this fiasco, and as such you will be equivalently compensated. Behold."

With a snap of his claws, the Overlord summoned in a retinue of stoats carrying a box on poles, with a single hole in the side. The box was placed on the ground and opened to reveal a pair of manacles on chains. The Overlord nodded towards psybox, and the unfortunate vermin was dragged forcefully to the box and chained within. As the lid closed, psybox's head poked out from the hole in the side, looking quite miserable.

Turning to his remain lackeys, the Overlord spoke. "You see what happens to those who fail me repeatedly. Psybox is to remain inside this box until I decide otherwise. Maybe the misery of a former comrade will spur you onto better results in your missions. And speaking of missions, I have another one for you."

"One and a half days journey to the east is a small camp I use during the summer season. I will be traveling there soon to spend the coming days in comfort. I want you to go and clean the camp for my arrival. Make sure the tents are repaired, that there is a good amount of firewood, and that the kitchen tent is stocked with prime vittles. Do all this, and you might be rewarded. Fail me.... Well, let's just say you don't want to fail me. Dismissed."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
SIX DAYS LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"The camp is ruined! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! I want an explanation for all this! Why are the tents shredded? Why is the firewood damp? And who dumped the vittles into the mud? Which one of you numbskulls is responsible? WELL?!"

Title: Re: Overlord's Orders VII
Post by: Matthias720 on May 20, 2013, 06:58:29 PM
With a disgusted annoyance, the Overlord picked up a muddied loaf of bread. "A rain dance, you say? Tam, why would you do this? You have RUINED this camp! For this egregious lapse of judgement you are hereby sentenced to labor in the kitchens. You shall leave only when you have prepared enough food to replace everything you ruined here tenfold. Your punishment begins, now."

As he finished speaking, a trio of stoats swiftly entered the tent, grabbing Tam roughly, and carrying him off to his fate. Gazing at his two remaining captains, the Overlord spoke to them in a hushed voice. "Now that only two of you remain, I can reveal my greatest secret. I am Overlord because I was appointed by one who came before me. It is now my duty to pass on that duty to one of you. The privilege will go to the one who does the best in the last test I'll give you."

"This test will be much harder than any challenge you have previously faced. You are to journey three days to the south, to an abandoned quarry. Within the quarry are a pair of ancient fox seers; two sisters who will give you tools for your task. Within the depths of the quarry is a giant serpent guarding a flawless green gemstone. You are to retrieve the gemstone for me and return as quickly as possible. I will decide for myself who shall be my successor when you both return. Now go forth!"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
TWO WEEKS LATER
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"Well I certainly did not expect you to take so long, but I see before me the gem. I congratulate you both for actually managing to not completely fail in your mission. On the other claw, you did take a very long time returning to me, and both of you have many cuts, scars, and bruises. Tell me, how did you come to be two weeks late, and why do you both have injuries? Tell me you tale, and I shall then choose the next Overlord."

OOC: This is it. At the end of this round, the winner of Overlord's Orders VII will be declared. This has been a long time coming, and it looks to be an exciting conclusion. The way this final round will work is different from the others in several ways. First off, there is a limit of three posts each for Leatho and Romsca. Second, each post MUST be at least two paragraphs in length (two sentence responses don't work in the final round). I want to hear less of an argument over who did worse in following instructions, but rather a carefully thought out story of the events that lead to the end I have described. The better the story (but not necessarily the better the writing, even though that counts) the better your chances are of winning. Put on a show, and may the best vermin win!

“Sir, the journey was hard, long and dangerous. We pulled on through the day and camped at the river. In the middle of the night we were attacked by a band of shrews. They were fearless warriors and we had the run for are lives. We ran blindingly though the country side and finally came to a stop at a little vole’s house, we raided it and slept there for what was left of the night. In morning we moved on. We came to the foot of a mountain, so I suggested we go around it. The decision of mine was a costly one. We wasted several more days. When we final made it around, the two of us were dead and exhausted. When the quarry finally came in sight, it was to dark to go down so we made camp once more. As the sun came up we made are way down and found the fox sisters.”

“Here are your tools” the foxes said while handing the vermin a dagger and torch.

“I took the torch and Romsca took the dagger. I lit the torch and we made are way through the caves, I got hopelessly lost. We started walking in circles, until Romsca found an under ground forest! I foolishly let my lit torch drop and it set the trees alight! The flames came all around us. And out of the fire came the head of a giant serpent, it had a green gemstone for his right eye! Romsca fearlessly leaped into the air toward the snake and drove her dagger into the beast’s head. The serpent fell dead and its gemstone eye rolled to my feet. We made it out alive and returned back here.  Romsca is the better choice for your successor.” He said with his head bowed in shame.
     “I am not worthy.”

OOC: @Mask, it's about who has the best story.

*takes a deep breath* Here goes...

BIC: "At this point, we were only about five days late. On the way back, we ran into some squirrel Highlanders on their way down to see someone or someplace they called "Red walled Abby", or at least that's what I think they called her or it. It was hard to tell, because of their obnoxious accents and the fact that they were screaming for us vermin to get out of their way so they could get there. There was about a score of them, all with claymores drawn and with blue war paint. It looked like there was no escape. Leatho hid the gem so they wouldn't see it; I'm sure if they would have seen it they would have for sure thought we stole it. I also hid my dagger, so I would appear less threatening; so they would leave us alone. However, those squirrels saw this, and they thought I was trying to hide my dagger so I could stab them sneakily.
" 'Off wi' their 'eads, laddies!' cried the squirrel who was probably their clan chieftain. They chased us over a large field and into some thick woods. We probably ran for at least a mile. Once we got in the woods, we lost them. The squirrels all had to keep track of each other, so they went at the pace of the slowest squirrel. Us, being only two, were able to run at a much faster pace. After that, it took us a while to find our way out of the woods. That is why it took us so long to get here."

OOC: I am so sorry. I've had my nose stuck in a book...a really good book.  ::)

BIC: Yes m'lord, And then the ground began to shake, mounds of it rose every where! I my self was lifted up!  Large moles with war hammers came out all around and under us. They said something in there strange speech and push us down into their underworld.
"Where are you taking us?" I asked, but they did not answer.
We were thrown into a dark damp prison. I hope I never see that place of hell again. The two of us were locked in there for days, with little to eat and drink. The food was gross and all we had to drink was sulfur water. So I said to Romsca, "We most dig are way out of here". And so we did, it took longer that I thought but at least we made it out alive.

We had been using a candle to see where we were going, but we had to put it out since we knew it use up air. The tunnel was pitch black. Fortunately, Leatho removed a rock overhead and we could escape from the tunnel. We were free!
"Soon, in the forest, we got lost. It was night, and raining lightly, so we decided to spend the night in a nearby cave we found. We tried to make a fire, but we just couldn't find enough dry wood. We told stories and ate cold, dried bird meat.
"That night, Leatho took the first shift of guarding our camp. Sometime in the night, he woke me up. At first I thought it was because my shift had come. What Leatho said next surprised me.
         "'Snakes,' he whispered, 'big ones!'
"I got up slowly (I usually need coffee to wake up properly) and looked around at my surroundings. Sure enough, there were snakes, and they completely surrounded us. You can imagine it took us quite a while to extricate ourselves from their scaly grasp, milord."

"The snakes were every where m'lord, but we didn't have a weapon between us. So I stripped my shirt and we tied rocks to the cloth. Smash out left and right we did. But they kept coming.. looking for easy prey. So I says to Romsca, lets show them what we're made of. On went the battle into the night." said the vermin
The vermin looked dreamily as he was telling the story, as if he could see what he was saying
"As the sun rose from the earth and into the sky, there stood two mighty beasts. A silhouette against the bright morning. Armed only with rags and stone. There they stood, on a hill of the slain. They stood proudfully on their fallen foe, whom they!...had struck down. And so your lordship we made are way here as fast as are little legs could carry us. Romsca, tell him what happen right before we entered the camp."

"Yeah, you shoulda seen what 'appened afore we entered the camp! There we were, licking our wounds, limping into camp, when a whole flock of ravens attacked us! There were about a score of them, and they were coming towards us, certainly 'ungry an' lookin' for food. So Leatho then comes up with this great idea: that we should play dead. We fell down on the ground an' closed our eyes, 'opin that they wouldn't notice our breathin', and lay still for a while.
"Eventually, due to Leatho's ingenuity, they went away. But those ravens didn't prepare us for what was coming. You see, after the ravens went away, we noticed that the camp was very different. We were at the wrong camp! Suddenly, Long Patrol hares with sabers were marching towards us. I pointed behind them and yelled 'CHARGE'! The hares, thinking there was an army be'ind them, turned and ran in the opposite direction. They figured out what we were doing quickly, but it gave us just enough time to get away. Then, we finally found your camp.

OOC: Nice! I think this last round we did was my favorite. I'll PM Matthias to tell him we are done.

Having heard both captains speak, the Overlord rose from his seat and produced a pendant from a pouch hidden in his cloak. With careful reverence he placed the recovered green gem into a small pocket in the pendent. "There it is. This is the symbol of my power. With this pendent, the possessor bears the right to be Overlord. And I now pass that right to Romsca. Your courage has made you strong, and your wits have kept you safe, relatively speaking. At Leatho's word, I now pronounce you Overlord of this great horde. However, due to the teamwork both of you displayed on your final mission, I believe Leatho would make a superb second-in-command. I entrust that you will lead with a fair yet ruthless claw. My army is now yours. Go forth and conquer your enemies and awe your allies. Now, I will take my leave."

In a single deft move, the now-former Overlord removed his cloak and pendent and placed them on Romsca. With a single nod, he withdrew from the tent, stepping onto a cart pulled by two score soldiers. As he stepped into the cart, he whispered an instruction to a small weasel, handing him a book in the process. The weasel nodded as he backed away from the cart. At a word from the former Overlord, the cart clattered down the path to the small summer camp. The new Overlord was greeted by the small weasel who dutifully passed on the last orders of his previous master. "Master wished you to have this, Might One. It is a record of those who came before you. It is Master's wish that you learn from them so that you will one day be as mighty as he was. And he wished for you to know that if you ever need him, you can send word to his summer camp, where he will live out his days in peace. Long live my former Master, and long live the mighty Overlord!"

OOC: And with that, the round is over. Apologies for the rough starts and stops, but I think we had a good run. Congratulations to Romsca and Leatho for making it to the final round. You guys sure didn't make it easy for me. I look forward to whatever happens in the next round brings. Good job!

OOC:  Not sure if I'm allowed to post, seeing as I wasn't in this one (I was too lazy to read the rules when this round started up :P), but I was wondering, when is the next round going to be starting?  I read the rules (and the first round, so I understand it... mostly... ;)), so I know how to play, and I'd be interested in joining.  Oh, and congrats, Romsca!  :D
