The fleet is docked upon the shore. The night before had been one of celebration and feasting, (much to the dismay of one overworked cook) and there had even been a bagpipe concert. Now restless hares climb from their boats unto the shores, all awaiting your orders.
((Ok, so here's how this will kinda work. You guys decide which settlement or area to attack and I'll roleplay the vermin leader there for you guys. I'll notify you'll of the nearby areas. For now, though, let's do a little tutorial by raiding a small nearby vermin settlement. It's about 4 miles away, along the shore and a little bit into some plains. You guys order your troops into formation, start marching, and then we'll time skip over there. Or, you can take the boats nearer. But remember, always leave a small force to gaurd the boat so you don't come back to a pile of floating firewood, if anything at all.
Arron Mistpaw loped along the shore in the morning mist. Five hares, his morning patrol, followed him. They headed for a small pine copse, where three more figures waited. On of them stepped forward and saluted. "Sah! Left Daugherty and Gent on th ship as a guard. Waiting on your command."
Arron nodded. It was better to wait for the other commanders and captains to meet up, they would have a better attack plan.
Kili spotted Arron from a distance and bounded up to him, signaling for her hares to follow.
"Ello there, Sah, I'm Kili Fastfoot, Captain of the Tammo's Pride. Fine morning, wot?"
Arron nodded. "Yes, it is a fine day. Speaking fo days, it's the one that we attack on. What's your attack plan?
Kili grinned and acted it out as she spoke, "Stealthily we'll creep up there and then spring out and...bam! Hares attacking from all sides! They won't suspect a thing!"
OOC: Blaggut, I need some Intel on the vermin settlement.
OOC: Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Well, I'll make a map of it and then tell you what information your hare scouts have gotten. I should be done by the time your hares are in formation.
"They will. We 'vermin', as you hares so like to call us, aren't blithering idiots. The vermin there will put up a fight, and panicking beasts are never good opponents" saying so Rhonaer emerged from the bushes, flanked by two hare guards.
Kilo nodded and adjusted her hat, "Aye, exactly, that's why I'm gonna scare 'em out of their wits before attacking. Y'know, give 'em the old one-two!"
"And how, Captain(OOC: What's her rank?) Kili? Are we to kidnap their babes and parade their heads on pikes to them?"
OOC-
Yes, Captain. :)
IC-
Kili grimaced, pulling her ears down below her chin. "Heck no! Why, that's addlebrained! I'd never do that to a babe. Shouldn't talk like that, bad form, wot?"
Rhonaer smiled. " I was only joking. Now, on to more serious matters. If the Badger Lord gives me permission, my ship could harass the vermin fleet if they have any, to make sure that they are not prepared for the assault." the fox said. "You might want to prepare your armies and hire mercenaries, former pirates and searats should do the trick."
(OOC: the bager lord is actually back at Salamandestron and is currently unreachable. There is actually no current leader :P
OOC: Maybe couriers?
OOC: Nay, we're too far off Mossflower Cointry
Arron called to Lancejack Hasdi, his second in command. "Arm the troops. Captain, we'll be sneaking in on their left flank while you attack. Just avoid firing on the west side. As soon as I'm in, I'll comandeer the gateway and let the main attack force in. Understood? Coporal, beat the squad at double march. There's not much time."
OOC: The vermin village is small, estimated 20-30 fighters. One house is split from the rest, connected by trail back to the main village. Which is in sorta a rough line with another trail curving off of it. It is in a meadow, a grove on a hill to the right, left and forward are forest (with a small patch of meadow between them) and the back has forest a little ways from what appears to be a trail or meadow trailing off behind the hills.
After the scouts had made their report, Arron changed his attack plans. "Right. We'll take fire archers, as soon as we kill or capture the vermin in each house it'll be burned. Captain, what do you plan to do?
Kili grouped with her own crew of hares and plotted with them.
"Work t'gether with Arron's crew if you can, wot! If there's dibbuns for some reason then leave 'em be....There'll be no parading around with their heads on sticks." She said grimly.
Rhonaer called to Arron. "Mr. Arron, (OOC: What's his rank?), I'll bombard the city for a day to soften their defences. I'll send you ten hares as support!". He called the ten hares together "What ever you do, don't harm dibbuns, oldbeasts, and younger vermin. Do not kill your opponents, use clubs to knock them out."
OOC: Let's say Major, bt he commands his own boat.
BIC: "Right. Let's see, the sun rises in about ten minutes, it's best to put the sun in their eyes. I'll attack then."
"Time for the bombardment then. Assault when the sun rises." saying so, the the ten marines went over to Arron's boat and the Salamandastron's Flame began to sail towards the enemy city.
They arrive 30 minutes later, after heading to the shore and moving to a position behind (or at)
((Choose one of the four sides
The defenses are nearly non existent, just a few dirt mounds with towers on them, guards and archers who are supposed to be keeping gaurd smoking pipes and drinking. Down on the ground are a few mounds with bored archers behind them, betting on rolls of dice, drinking, or doing something else. A few soldiers walk around the town with meager leather or wooden armor, and villagers run about trading, pinching shiny items, or trying to capture their young, who are running about. Few seem to have weapons.
The Salamandastron's Flame sailed in full view at the north side of the "fortress". Shocked by the defences, or rather the lack of them, had Rhonaer have his beasts fire their catapults and ballistas at the tower, demolishing them.
OOC: Might want to say "beasts" instead of "men".
Arron had landed his boat downshore of the encamptment. Signaling for two of his fighters to guard the boat, he took the rest around to the inland side of the settlement. Four archers quietly strung bows and notched arrows to strings. Arron nodded for them to fire at will. After two volleys, eight vermin guards had been slain. Arron let his paw fall, letting the archers know that there was to be no more kiling. "Right. Draw blades, we're going to take as many captive as we can."
((Hey guys, as a future note, don't say the effects of your attack unless it's obvious. If you have like 5 skilled fighters killed a noobie vermin you can say you killed him if it's an obvious win. However, please don't say the effects of your volleys and such. I'll leave the effects of the current attacks there though. ;) Thanks guys
OOC: Sure!
Rhonaer watched the catapults hit their targets, and decided on a plan of action. He ordered his second, Private Blackpaw, to continue firing at the towers and had five extra bodyguards row him to shore. He, with his guards, walked on to the shore and went over to the towers. He had his guards knock the guards in there out and dragged them away from the tower. He and his troops then went into the heart of the town. "Beasts who reside here! The Long Patrol have come to liberate you from your rulers! Please lay down your weapons and keep them in a pile where we can see them. I assure you, none of you shall be hurt." he said before rising to his full height "Now, who challenges us? Will anyone fight me?"
Now all of Arron's archers has shouldered bows and wielded drawn swords. When they heard Rhonaer's cries, the squad speeded up their pace, using their swords whenever a vermin got too close. Arron planned to get to the shore and meet up with Rhonaer.
Not realizing the full strength of the fleet, they raise their weapons and let out a shout of battle. A catapult misses and hit a building, causing it to crumble. A mother pulls a babe-sized pile of red from the ruins, weeping. The third of five towers crumbles, taking vermin with it, some being crushed, some Impaled on the occasional wooden spike, and one or two groan pitifully, waving their arms and attempting to drag themselves away from the chaos. Vermin are slain by the attackers on the shore, and regroup nearer to the center of the village, leaving about 7 houses on their left flank exposed, one of which is a full two stories tall. The vermin fire a volley into the attackers, slaying them at a relatively close range, causing their forced to face heavy losses, though it is not clear how many we're slain in the chaos of battle. A second volley hits the deck of the catapult boat, though it only slays a few due to the low skill of the vermin, the chaos, and the range. The captain and crew easily count one death, three wounds, one of which is quite severe.
Kili docked her ship down on the far side, jumping out with half of her crew.
The hares peered around.
Kili winced at some of the screams, waving to a tall brown hare in the front.
"Come here, sneak around the back with me! The rest of you, charge!"
Wiping their plades upon tufts oof dry grass, Aron's squad emerged from the ruins. Glancin gup at Kili, he said, "We lost one and Daugherty has a bad leg wound. We'd better regroup and get back to camp."
Rhonaer scowled. "You two, sail back and tell Private Black paw to hold fire. Then, you must immediately rejoin us with the rest of the army." saying so to two hares who promptly went to do his command, the fox turned back and joined Kili and Arron's troops. "Good morning, dear sirs and madams. What should we do next?"
Kili wailed, pulling her eartips down under her chin.
"We lost one? Who?" The hare exclaimed, eyes darkening. She was kind until somebeast messed with her friends.
Arron shrugged. "Kendall, but Jun got the vermin with a well-timed knife throw." He guestured toward the remains of the village. "Not many, if any, woud have survived. It's no use getting angry now."
Kili wiped her eyes.
"No! Not Kendall!...Huh? I shouldn't get mad? Well, if you say so, wot!" She nodded.
"I'll go and look for survivors, Major. I believe I'll have an easier time dealing with my kind, rather than you. There is no need to cut down a live tree with an axe while a dead one lies near." he smiled and walked towards the villagers, weaponless.
OOC: Nice proverb
A vermin snarls, tossing an axe with I'll throw in his direction. Five get up, bearing heavy wounds, and charge him. Another unwounded vermin who had been cowering in a building jumps down from it aiming for him with his blade. The five continue to lope forwards fast as possible.
The wounded vermin moan and cry in pain and lament, some children slain by debris or hares, one slain by his own to keep him from being slain. A few stragglers run for the hills, literally.
Rhonaer dodged the axe and dropped to the ground. He didn't notice the vermin who leaped at him, and the vermin slashed off one of his ears. He growled and struck out at the vermin, felling him. He grabbed the blade and threw it to a nearby hare, and grabbed the vermin's head, and smashed it against the ground, knocking him unconcious. He then picked up his ear, examining it carefully, when he saw the five wounded vermin coming to him. He flicked his paw and threw his ear at them, and sat down, hands on the place his ear used to be, trying to staunch the blood.
The vermin limp for the hills aswell.
The battle is won!
Nearby settlements: Walled Fort, Small Town, Village, Defense Outpost
Nearby Fleets to attack: Two vermin small fast boats.
"Would somebeast like to tend to my wounds?" Rhonaer asked, wound bleeding freely.
Arron guestured to a smaller hare in his ranks. "Lijo can take care of it. Unless, of course, you have any healers?"
OOC: Ahem hem.
"They're on the ship. As for those ragged folk, I'll send out a party to bring me their heads. As for this one here," he said, lifting the unconscious vermin by his head fur, "I'll do him in quite nicely." And with that, he cut the beast's throat, and threw him on the ground. He then beckoned for Lijo to take care of his ear.
The hare moved over to Rhonaer and unraveled a small amount of bandage. He doused it with a little water from his canteen and put some chopped up comrey into it, before binding it around the ear stump. "There, sah, just don't mess with it much. You can take it off after two or three days."
